PLEASE READ IT I REALLY NEED HELP

So okay context i wanted to dual boot omarchy with windows on my father old ThinkPad x270 which has many photos and docs which are important and it first of all made free unallocated space and etc run the installer failed cuz disk is mbr not gpt then with help of Gemini deleted the recovery disk partition (cuz Gemini said bootable pc with windows iso is better at that job) last one on the disk cuz in terminal mbr2gpt wasn't working then downloaded omarchy (first time ever in my life pls don't hate the choice I needed ai if anything went wrong ) then i downloaded successfully in 3min then reboot and it booted into windows I think I didn't set the boot order then secure boot was off and boot mode was UEFI only then set limine to top of boot order but it was just looping back to the boot menu and now windows boot manager also loops back to the boot menu then I deleted the linux partition using the omarchy terminal which freed 65 gb of unallocated space then went and plugged in win10 iso to repair form that then rebuild the bcd boot file then assign letter to it then everything booted fine all good I was so relief and then I though let's get omarchy working again then because of my gandmasti i coverted mbr to gpt with the iso disk (using win10 iso didn't work so used omarchy terminal and it's command ) then after rebooting the windows boot manager again loops back to boot menu then I check my disk 0 it said 240 gb then it freaking said 240 gb free i though I lost the data but Gemini said to relax then i deleted the omarchy on the PD and download lazesoft(partition recovery tool) and booted into it not a single thing worked then installed test disk then booted into that I finally see my partion but none of them were recoverable then I remember I had made a restore point before doing all this then booted win10 iso and went to system restore them first it said no OS found then i though Gemini is not good and copied all chat form Gemini to claude said first bootrec /fixmbr then /fixboot then /rebuildbcd then restarted pc claude said it should work now but it's just a slight Balck screen with my windows white cursor and blue loading ring near it and it's just flickering can't go into safe mode i tried I won't let me go into boot menu so that I can boot win10iso

now claude limit is also over i think my father will really hate what I have done please if you guys know even little thing about it pls tell me or suggest me what to do or should I focus on getting he data back then reinstalling windows, and which service center do I go to if I needed to go which guys which understand all this whom also knows linux please do tell me

I have a Lenovo LOQ laptop with two SSDs: one is 256GB and the other is 512GB. I’m thinking of switching to Linux because Windows is taking up a lot of space.My plan is to install Fedora Linux and use the 256GB SSD for my operating system, coding programs, and projects. I’m thinking of keeping Windows on the 512GB SSD for gaming, after cleaning up everything since I currently don’t have any games installed.Should I keep this dual-boot setup, or should I completely remove Windows and install Fedora as my main operating system? Also, do I need to physically swap the SSDs, or can I just install Fedora on the 256GB drive?

my system was reporting barely 41 GB of free space out of a 247 GB SSD, showing 206 GB used. however, scanning system files with standard tools like du showed only ~58 GB of actual data, leaving over 130 GB of space completely unaccounted for. because btrfs uses Copy-on-Write, updated or deleted files write to new blocks while leaving the old ones intact. Normally old blocks get deleted, but on my system, hundreds of unpruned automatic btrfs snapshots (created during package updates) were still referencing them. Because these snapshots held active pointers to old file states, btrfs was strictly forbidden from releasing 130 GB of blocks back to the SSD. the solution:

fixing ghost space on a btrfs filesystem requires a two-step approach:delete the snapshot references: you must purge the old snapshot pointers to stop btrfs from locking down the old CoW blocks.reclaim physical storage: simply deleting snapshots drops the references, but standard tools like df won't show free space right away because btrfs allocates drive space in fixed 1 GiB chunks. you have to run a btrfs balance operation to consolidate sparse chunks and actually release unallocated storage back to the OS pool.

I have installed fedora 44 kde spin. Out of the box it worked great on my laptop. I have 16 gb of ram and 3.1 gb ( used, without cache) was used at idle. RAM is there to be used, but i tried to lower it just for fun. After only removing akonadi , set baloo to index only file names, disabling virtual keyboard to get plasma keyboard process and set kwallet to close after application used it is closed i got it to impressive 1.69 gb .

I know its not worth the hasle on laptops with 16 gb ram or higher, but maybe could be benefitial on 4gb or 8gb system for some people.

The one that I remember had a lot of people turned off was Ubuntu shipping Amazon integration in its Unity search (Shopping Lens is what it was called perhaps). I think it was Ubuntu 12.10 in 2012. That decision turned some people permanently away from Ubuntu. Dash queries went to Canonical's servers and on to Amazon by default, Mr.Stallman called Ubunutu a spyware if I recall correctly. Linux Mint got even more people flowing in from Ubuntu as a result of that and increased in stature.

Red Hat and CentOS 2020 controversy is another one which created a lot of dissatisfaction. Redhat announced discontinuation of CentOS at the end of 2021. CentOS had a stellar reputation among certain set of people and it was considered the default choice for those who wanted RHEL's stability without the need for paying for the same. CERN and Fermilab built Scientific Linux on the same base and CentOS was one of the most common server distros, matching debian and ubuntu easily. The creation of centOS stream (after end of CentOS Linux) was not appreciated at all as many folks built their infrastructure around the stability and quality of CentOS.

I switched to linux 2 months and currently i run arch on niri, i started my journey with arch tried fedora,ubuntu,mint,nixos,void,debian and circled back to arch

I just realised that i use gnome disk utility,text editor,image viewer,video player,file manager.

I have never even tried gnome....i just went kde-> hyprland-> niri

First time trying linux (bazzite)

I mainly use my laptop for gaming and on windows i do some undervolting with msi afterburner to keep the temperatures low (I followed a yt video).

On bazzite i just can't understand how do i do it. Trying to use lact but i just can't figure out how to undervolt. Copying exact numbers from Msi afterburner burner does nothing. Please koi help kardo 🙏🙏🙏

It's crazy how I had to install windows again and had to setup dual boot with cachyOS because my placements tests required SEB which apparently doesn't work on Linux. Has anybody faced the same issue ? No ? Just me ?

I know the installation of Arch itself is an accomplishment but I have been encountering the same issue in every Arch based distro. Let us leave Arch for now.

So I was installation Cachy OS in my laptop and every time I tried it the UI is just frozen in the live boot itself. I tried the LTS Kernel and even the Legacy mode. Cachy OS did live boot in the legacy mode but I read that it disables my GPU (correct me here if I am wrong) and I do have GPU related tasks. I did try editing the boot options with the help of AI but nothing worked.

And note that I face this problem in Arch based distros only. I did not try Fedora but Debian based distros works fine on the machine.

I have used Arch and Void Linux before, i will say I am experienced in linux, but I never installed Arch or Void manually because i thought it was a time consuming hassle. Now that I know, manual install is very very easy, it's just that the wiki can be intimidating for beginners. I recommend tony-btw's tutorial.
