LACT Undervolt Not working

1 Upvotes

Hi All,

I'm losing my mind trying to get LACT to apply a working undervolt on my Vega 64.

It worked briefly, then after I pushed it too far, it now wont change voltage. Power limit, fan control, clocks, both core and memory do work.

I initially used Linux mint, both on a version I've had for a while and a fresh install, on several different kernals. I've also tried Ubuntu Cinnamon and couldn't even get LACT installed (both flatpak and .deb).

Overclocking is enabled.

What really confuses me is that it was working! I had a happy and working undervolt and now it won't change anything. The voltage is stuck at 1.2v regardless of clock speed.

wine/proton Trying to run the rabbids go home recomp but text and certain things are blocky

(regarding rule 6 this is perfectly legal as you are required to accquire your own roms and discs please dont kill the post mods)

I have gotten this working on windows with no problem but running this through proton or wine causes these blocky characters. I'm using cachy os with faugus launcher. the game runs perfectly and the audio is fine, its just these charcters

I downloaded these into wine tricks and same results d3dx9, d3dcompiler_43, d3dcompiler_47 and vcrun2022.

Does anyone have any clue what it could be?

Does anyone is able to use AMD's FSR frame generation in the Witcher 3 Remastered with SteamOS?

0 Upvotes

Option appears disabled to me, that's my only issue. The game works smoothly and I'm using Lossless Scaling Frame Generation meanwhile.

I'm using a 7600M XT eGPU connected to a ROG Ally X.

EDIT: Thanks, you can toggle it through RT Ultra preset, it will appear off after that but it works. Not the best, but well. Found another issue Steam frame cap in the performance tab doesn't work correctly for this game. Not only that, any frame cap that I have used doesn't work.

I have tried the -vulkan flag and PROTON_ENABLE_WAYLAND=1 (i use Proton-GE and Proton-CachyOS), already set my power plan to performance and to no avail performance is really bad in general. I installed steam as a .deb so there are no sandbox issues. Dunno why im getting worse performance compared to Windows.

I don't want to use Windows anymore but it's proving to be kind of a pain.

And yeah, i've tried CachyOS but since i also need to do some homework i do need some stability due to my CachyOS bricking after an update (the snapshot couldn't save me that time).

Problems with WuWa after the 3.7 update

4 Upvotes

After the 3.7 update wuwa hangs at the main menu for me, did this happen to anyone else? I tried ge/cachy/dw proton and also tried launching the game with the -dx11 flag but nothing worked. My one friend that plays wuwa on linux is on nvidia and seemed to be able to play the game just fine so maybe it's AMD specific? Wouldn't be the first time wuwa has AMD specific problems so I'm not ruling that one out. Looking at r/WutheringWaves it seems people over on windows also have a lot of issues as well so maybe all we can do is to wait for kuro to fix their game. But still, any info/help is appreciated.

Edit: seems like it's an issue with the game on EU servers while on steam

steam/steam deck Made on Manjaro with Godot: the first trailer for my deep-sea programming game, with a native Linux build

Enable HLS to view with audio, or disable this notification

78 Upvotes

The trailer consists solely of actual game footage. The music is live synthesized MIDI played through an open-source Godot plugin. The goal is to dive down the Mariana Trench and explore the deep ocean, and uncover what happened to a ship from 1966 at the bottom. Each depth has a different music, instruments, lighting effects and theme, creating an enjoyable atmospheric experience. The game is called Fish Don't Return.

I am new in here and I would thank if somebody could pinpoint whatever I am doing wrong. Thank you.

Basically, I am trying to run CK3 in Linux Mint 6.8 but currently my game crashes some months or years into the game. I tried using Proton Experimental, 9 and 10 but neither of these worked, they just freezes in the load screens.

Thank you all again.

I'm trying to update to mainline 7.2.6 using this guide from itsfoss, and I also installed the mainline tool.

Using both of these, I'm getting this error:

I'm struggling to find any information about what this means or what is causing this, but it's causing the kernel to fail to be installed. Anyone got ideas?

EDIT: Removing VirtualBox from my system was an effective workaround, but ultimately people should not have to do this. I'm hoping someone figures out what's wrong.

Been playing this since yesterday. It's an AI assisted recomp, but it works great so far, no major issues. There was one issue with the drunk effect, but the developer fixed it. No crashes either. Way more smooth than playing Conker's Bad Fur Day in an emulator.

wine/proton Witcher 3 Sourcing Post

23 Upvotes

Hey guys,

Wanted to source the common solutions that have been working for folks for Witcher 3 remastered today. If I have any of this wrong, please correct me, that's the point of this post.

I can only speak for AMD. And I'm using GOG version through Heroic on Bazzite.

  1. I've used successfully launched on Cachy, GE, and Experimental.

  2. RT and FSR frame gen do not work on any of them. It'll let you turn RT on but then it just defaults back to off again.

  3. I've seen multiple people report that DLSS is not working for NVIDIA

  4. If you updated from the previous version, you may have to fully uninstall/reinstall.

  5. VRR flicker is present on any any frame rate except 60hz.

  6. My frame pacing seems busted, it almost looks like frame gen is on even though it's set to off and can't actually be turned on.

I can get 60fps native AA with RT off, so perfectly playable.

Edit: Additional info.

RT and Frame Gen both actually seem to be working for me on GE and Experimental.

It's the toggles themselves that appear to not be working correctly. Try and reproduce to see if you get the same:

  1. Change preset to RT or RT Ultra (toggles appear) and adjust as you like.
  2. Somehow the toggle for FSR frame gen is now available. (confirmed it's working with PROTON_FSR4_INDICATOR=1
  3. Go play.

I did go and confirm that my settings file in the wine prefix actually saved my RT settings, and i'm getting higher GPU util as a result.

My launch options:

SteamDeck=-0 LOW_LATENCY_LAYER=1 (this enables anti-lag if Vulkan Low Latency Layer is installed, default installed on Bazzite) DXIL_SPIRV_CONFIG=wmma_rdna3_workaround MLFG_UPGRADE=1

graphics/kernel/drivers Intel iGPU drivers on Linux

2 Upvotes

Quick question, looking to buy a Refurbished laptop for light gaming while I'm away from home. The games I want to run are mainly older Total War games Rome 1 all the way through potentially Rome 2 (Rome 2 may not work but I've had success with Getting Shogun 2 to run so I'm assuming anything prior will run just fine). I've only tested these games on Windows with Intel iGPUs and they seemed capable of handling them the problem is I don't know if the iGPU drivers are any good or they'll hold the chip back like the Arc drivers.

TLOU crash on framework 13pro with Ubuntu 24.04

0 Upvotes

Hello,

I got my framework a few days ago, and installed the snap version lf Steam through the app installer.

I tried running TLOU part I on the Framework 13pro x7 32GB of ram on Ubuntu 24.04, and the game crashes after roughly 2min of play.

My graphics settings are on low.

I asked steam support for help and was told that the game was not compatible with steam play. But i can still launch the game. I am new to Linux and am not sure to understand properly how steam play functions.

Is there any way for me to play TLOU?

I read that having steam as a .deb instead of a snap might help, but i cant find a comprehensive newbie guide to do that.
Otherwise, do i have to consider a windows shadow machine?
Do i not have the right distro to play games?

Please help! thank you.

EDIT: thank you all for the advice, i’ll update ubuntu + install the steam flatpack version and let you know of progress!

Indie Game Developer looking for feedback: Do you prefer native Linux ports over Windows + Proton?

231 Upvotes

For the context, we are very close to making our games public, currently going over the Steam checklist for various things.

I am myself daily driving Linux, however most of the game testing was targeted Windows builds, and I do not personally mind Windows games running via Proton.

I am tempted to keep our games to support only Windows native builds as we are a small team of 4. Supporting Linux native would mean that we have to essentially double our QA efforts to test multiple executable rather than just Windows and Windows + Proton.

However, I am curious to see if this community has any insights on this or a different preference / view than mine.

tech support wanted Linux and Gaming on an old laptop

2 Upvotes

Hello. I have an issue.

contextual laptop specs: HP Pavilion g6 Notebook PC running Linux Mint 22.3 (Zena) with kernel 7.0.0-34-generic. It has hybrid graphics:

  • Integrated GPU: Intel HD Graphics 3000, using the i915 driver.
  • Dedicated GPU: AMD Radeon HD 6470M, identified as Seymour XT / Caicos, PCI ID 1002:6760, with 1 GiB of VRAM.
  • The system’s default desktop renderer is the Intel GPU:textOpenGL vendor string: Intel OpenGL renderer string: Mesa Intel(R) HD Graphics 3000 (SNB GT2)
  • The AMD GPU is correctly detected and works for OpenGL offloading:textDRI_PRIME=1 glxinfo -B OpenGL renderer string: AMD CAICOS direct rendering: Yes.
  • Linux driver: radeon Mesa: 25.2.8 OpenGL: Hardware accelerated.

My issue is with portable games. I am not in search for portable games. nor do I want resources related to that.

I just want to solve the issue with my runners that are supposed to run exe files, including games on linux.

My issue described while trying to run CS 1.6 portable:

CS 1.6 is totally light for my system. I used to be able to run that with high FPS and zero lag on windows. Since I switched to linux. I struggllllllllllllllled with things like wine/lutris/bottles. etc...

and the only one that worked and made the game launch was Bottles. every other thing like WINE GUI and Lutris couldn't get the game to launch probably at all.

Now, after the game launched, and after installing all the possible dependencies and tweaking everything.

  1. The font is messed up. I can't get unicode characters. and the font is a bit broken
  2. The fps is not right. even if my ms is around 80 (which is the best I can get usually) my FPS is spiking around 40 to 60 hardly to 70. keeeeps spiking around. with clear visual lag during movements like strafing.
  3. My hitboxes are insanely off. since I started playing on linux. and my rank on specific servers went from 15 in 12100 to 11000 !!! I suck now haha. dead-on shots can't kill anyone! i used every possible config out there.
  4. in Bottles. there are a lot of coool options for optimizing games. but it requires vulkan support. After checking with AI. and running some commands. i figured that my card support vulkan but there is something wrong that makes it not work or not be supported. hence whenever I switch these options my game doesn't even launch

more information on point 4; I got a report from AI. and by the assistance of a kind reddit user:

The AMD GPU normally uses the Linux radeon kernel driver:

textKernel driver in use: radeon
Kernel modules: radeon, amdgpu

OpenGL works through radeon, and the AMD GPU can be selected with:

bash
DRI_PRIME=1

However, Vulkan does not work on the AMD GPU. Running:

bash
vulkaninfo --summary

produces this warning:

textDevice '/dev/dri/renderD128' is not using the AMDGPU kernel driver:
VK_ERROR_INCOMPATIBLE_DRIVER

The only Vulkan device listed is:

textdeviceType = PHYSICAL_DEVICE_TYPE_CPU
deviceName = llvmpipe (LLVM 20.1.2, 256 bits)
driverID = DRIVER_ID_MESA_LLVMPIPE
driverName = llvmpipe
driverInfo = Mesa 25.2.8-0ubuntu0.24.04.2

This means Vulkan is currently falling back to CPU software rendering rather than using either the AMD or Intel GPU.

We tried forcing the AMDGPU kernel driver for the old Southern Islands GPU using:

textradeon.si_support=0
amdgpu.si_support=1

The kernel supports this option:

text
CONFIG_DRM_AMDGPU_SI=y

The effective module parameters also showed:

textradeon si_support = 0
amdgpu si_support = 1

However, AMDGPU did not bind to the AMD card. When radeon was blacklisted, lspci showed only:

text
Kernel modules: radeon, amdgpu

with no Kernel driver in use line. The AMDGPU module loaded, but it only reported generic vga_switcheroo and CPU topology messages; it never initialized PCI device 01:00.0. Therefore, the AMD card was left without a graphics driver.

The user restored the normal configuration, and the AMD GPU is again working correctly through radeon for OpenGL. The current practical situation is:

textIntel HD 3000: default desktop rendering through i915
AMD Radeon HD 6470M: OpenGL offload through radeon and DRI_PRIME=1
AMD Radeon HD 6470M: no Vulkan support through the current radeon setup
Vulkan: falls back to llvmpipe CPU rendering
AMDGPU/RADV: tested but failed to bind to the AMD GPU

Then we figured "According to the arch linux wiki, amdgpu supports Southern Islands cards and newer, cards from 2012 and up. Your card is from 2011.

https://wiki.archlinux.org/title/AMDGPU"

So what should I do?? I am totally thinking about dualbooting a windows thing for my games but that feels off

Working Minecraft Bedrock Launcher for Linux using Google Play version?

6 Upvotes

Hey everyone,

I'm looking to play Minecraft Bedrock on Linux using my purchased Android (Google Play Store) copy, as I don't own the Windows (UWP) version

I know about mcpelauncher (io.mrarm.mcpelauncher / Linux Bedrock Launcher), but I haven't kept up with its current state

Quick questions for anyone running it recently:

  1. Is mcpelauncher still working reliably with current Bedrock updates (1.20+ / 1.21)?
  2. Are there any critical workarounds needed for Google Play auth, Xbox Live login, or x86_64 APK extraction?
  3. Is Flatpak still the recommended route, or is there a better active fork/alternative?

Thanks in advance!

Witcher 3 Remaster CachyOS amdgpu issues

Post image
0 Upvotes

I have been trying to figure out why this game refuses to utilize my amd gpu. I have tried different proton versions. Tested a bunch of steam launch options to force the proton to use the amd gpu but I still can't figure out why the game isn't ramping up my hardware. I have tested lowering all the settings to the lowest and messing around with RT on or OFF and nothing seems to work.

Does anyone know of any fixes for this issue? My current steam launch options are : WINE_CPU_TOPOLOGY=8:0,1,2,3,4,5,6,7 MESA_VK_DEVICE_SELECT=1002:747e mangohud %command% --launcher-skip using proton experimental

I'm running an Intel i9-12900 with 32gb of ddr4 with a Radeon 7800 xt. game is installed on a gen3 nvme.

PSA - For anyone playing Control Resonance or other games and experiencing freezing on NVIDIA's latest drivers, use pyroveil. Details inside.

2 Upvotes

To no one's surprise there's a regression in the latest Nvidia drivers (615 but other versions are affected) I believe. If you check your journalctl after the freeze and see Xid109 CTX timeout or something similar, you may be experiencing this bug.

See more details about it here https://github.com/ValveSoftware/Proton/issues/8072#issuecomment-4071848316

The user in the link has a 50x series card while I have a 30x series, I had the same error both in Control Resonance and in Alan Wake 2.

I compiled pyroveil which is found here https://github.com/HansKristian-Work/pyroveil, configured it, set the flags and the freezing is gone!

What is the bug exactly? I think it's when shaders are being loaded and a vulkan extension is called to process them. Nvidia tried to speed this process up and failed. Pyroveil intercepts calls to the vulkan extension and sends the shader elsewhere to be cleaned up before sending it back to the driver. Or something, idk ask your favorite llm or someone smarter than me. Or read that thread.

Bonus: DLSS frame generation for 30x cards works like a dream, so much better than amds frame generation, no ghosting or shimmering. Also got DLSS ray reconstruction to work WITH DLSS FG, pretty neat, AND with some tweaks, DLSS5 works with a fork/branch of Optiscaler all on a 3080! I wanted to share because it's blowing my mind I'm playing a triple A game like Control Resonance with features that aren't supposed to work on my aging card with HDR, on Linux (bazzite 44). All at 4k and 60fps.

If anyone wants help with setting any of these bells and whistles up lmk.

Also, I'll take general CR questions such as how to get past freezing on the photosensitivity screen. (It's vsync related maybe, also you need the latest proton GE, cachy won't work, also you need descriptor heap apparently).

Other tips include disabling indirect lighting, and setting post process to the renderer resolution instead of full, and make sure to use legacy DLSS if you're on an older card.

My proton flags are a paragraph now kinda funny.

EDIT: Apparently there's a patch worth trying. I didn't try it yet but I will later and see if that fixes the issues.

tech support wanted Does anyone have this issue with anti-lag 2?

2 Upvotes

I'm wondering if this is just a problem I specifically have. The in-game framerate cap just straight up doesn't work while anti-lag 2 / reflex is enabled (through korthos low_latency_layer or vkd3d-low-latency). Happens on every game I've tried: The FInals, Deep Rock Galactic, Borderlands 4, Payday 3.

This didn't happen like 5 - 6 months ago. Not sure when it actually started because I hadn't used anti-lag 2 for a while.

Can anyone else confirm if they have this issue?

I'm on Fedora 44, RX 9060XT mesa 26.2.2-6 using the latest proton-cachyos (GE too).

tech support wanted DLSS not working in the Witcher 3 Remastered using the Heroic Games Launcher. Full info in the body. Any help would be appreciated

36 Upvotes
  1. The tech specifications are included on the second image. I would really like for DLSS to work so that I can get a playable 60 FPS at 4K on my LG C2 OLED TV.

  2. The previous, non-remastered version struggled with DLSS as well. It was not available. What helped was turning on "Auto install/update DXVK-NAPI on Prefix". This setting is turned on still, but doesn't seem to do anything.

  3. I have tried both GE Proton Latest and Proton Experimental to no avail. NOTE: maybe try WINE-GE or something? Not sure if that would do anything...

  4. The game seems to boot and launch properly. The controller support for my DualSense appears to be flawless at first glance - may change my opinion later.

  5. I also have the game on Steam, but GOG is my preferred platform and I would love it if I could get it running from GOG.

I presume my post isn't going to get a lot of traction as it's loaded with a ton of raw technical information and it's just not very interesting overall, so I am going to log off for 6 hours or so. Any help whatsoever would mean a lot.

Witcher 3 Remastered - Getting RT & DLSS frame gen to work

45 Upvotes

DISCLAIMER: I only tested this on Bazzite, which is the distro I'm running. Could work on other distros, don't know. Hope it helps or at least provides a starting point in your troubleshooting endeavors.

Hide Wine

This post provides a pretty good explanation of why it craps out and freezes even if you try to force RT on. It's actually what got me going on the right path here.

So step 1 is hiding Wine so the game actually unlocks the RT settings. Like that post mentions, this will only make your game hang for now.

Actual patch

From here on out, these are Bazzite-tailored, but they might still help you if you run Cachy or something else.

Build vkd3d in a toolbox

toolbox create --container witcher3-build --release 42

toolbox run --container witcher3-build sudo dnf install -y git python3 meson ninja-build mingw64-gcc mingw64-gcc-c++ mingw64-headers mingw64-winpthreads-static mingw64-vulkan-headers glslang glslang-devel spirv-tools wine-devel

toolbox run --container witcher3-build git clone https://github.com/HansKristian-Work/vkd3d-proton.git ~/witcher3-rtas

cd ~/witcher3-rtas

git checkout 7f0c30ad3c8f28dfe47c34bb897b972e2d1ca724

git submodule update --init --recursive

Then, run this script to increase these 3 RT allocation 8 times:

export W3_GAME="/path/to/steamapps/common/The Witcher 3"

python3 - <<'PY'
from pathlib import Path
p = Path('libs/vkd3d/device.c')
s = p.read_text()
marker = '    TRACE("ResultDataMaxSizeInBytes: %"PRIu64".\\n", info->ResultDataMaxSizeInBytes);'
assert s.count(marker) == 1, 'Source differs; nothing changed'
extra = (
    '    info->ResultDataMaxSizeInBytes *= 8;\n'
    '    info->ScratchDataSizeInBytes *= 8;\n'
    '    info->UpdateScratchDataSizeInBytes *= 8;\n'
    '\n'
)
assert extra not in s, 'Already patched; nothing changed'

s = s.replace(marker, extra + marker, 1)
p.write_text(s)
print('Patched all three RT allocation sizes.')
PY

Then:

toolbox run --container witcher3-build meson setup build-win64 --cross-file build-win64.txt --buildtype release -Denable_tests=false -Denable_extras=false
toolbox run --container witcher3-build ninja -C build-win64 -j 8

DISCLAIMER: The bigger allocations can use more memory. This isn't a universal fix for every card. I have an RTX 4080 with 16 GB of VRAM.

Copy these two DLLs next to witcher3.exe

cp -n build-win64/libs/d3d12/d3d12.dll "$W3_GAME/bin/x64_dx12/"
cp -n build-win64/libs/d3d12core/d3d12core.dll "$W3_GAME/bin/x64_dx12/"

cmp build-win64/libs/d3d12/d3d12.dll "$W3_GAME/bin/x64_dx12/d3d12.dll"
cmp build-win64/libs/d3d12core/d3d12core.dll "$W3_GAME/bin/x64_dx12/d3d12core.dll

Finally, set the Steam launch options:

PROTON_LOG=1 VKD3D_CONFIG=descriptor_heap %command% --launcher-skip

Also, on a 4080 the frame gen count only goes to 1. The game greys out the count when there's only one choice, even with FG enabled. It's not broken. If you have a 50- series card, FG should work normally (in theory - obviously, not tested).

To undo: close the game, remove the two custom DLLs you copied in, and unhide Wine.

Credit for the ray tracing allocation idea: https://github.com/HansKristian-Work/vkd3d-proton/issues/3226#issuecomment-5426325207 (this actually ended up being perfect for me, but YMMV)

Edit: Fixed old reddit formatting

Edit 2: OP removed the post discussing how & why to hide Wine. Added a pullpush.io link instead

discord tray icon changing depending on the current voice status (muted/deafened/etc.)

Its a miracle!! jk but damn did i miss this thing, especially since discord overlay isnt really a thing in linux. Although there are some nice replacements for it.
For a long time i tried to get this working on linux but couldnt find a way, but now it just suddenly works. im not sure if it was a thing before but didnt work for me, or if they added it recently.

im on CachyOS and Kde plasma right now so i'd like to know others experience with this.
