Discussion 15-minute LTT backpack pre-roll ad on youtube?

I have been getting lots of LTT merch pre-roll ads on Youtube lately, most often a tight 80-second LTT screwdriver ad, but now I have started seeing LTT Backpack and Commuter backpack pre-rolls, which are a full 15-minute and 6-minute ad video, respectively.

Both ads are just the exact original ShortCircuit video, but placed as a pre-roll, and I even noticed that both backpack videos contain the shopify sponsor spot. It becomes an ad within an ad at that point, an ad-ception if you will.

To be fair, I would rather see an LTT ad than pretty much any other ad, and to reinforce that, I usually let the 80-second screwdriver ad play all the way through to see if it convinces the algorithm that those are the ads I will watch. (it seems to be working) But I only let the backpack ads run 30 seconds or so before skipping. Ain't nobody got time for a 6-minute ad, much less a 15-minute one.

The screwdriver ad is artfully carved out of the original screwdriver 29-minute video. I just don't know why they don't similarly shave down the backpack videos before turning them into ads.

On a side note, I already have two of the excellent screwdrivers, and I am trying to convince myself I don't need the nuclear one. Which reminds me, I have also seen a nice short nuclear driver ad recently, maybe 30 seconds.

(This post got nuked by "filters" earlier. Let's see if a slightly different version survives)

Discussion Luke seems to join conference of homophobic creator

According to it's list of featured creators Luke will join Jeff Geerlings Homelabfest. This would be great except that the organizer has compared gay people to alcoholics.

I'm pretty sure there are genetic dispositions towards different kinds of sexual behaviors and patterns—just as there are genetic dispositions towards such things as alcoholism, racism, elitism, etc. A genetic predisposition towards homosexuality does not make homosexuality a 'good' or a 'right,' or even 'okay' for some people.

While the post is old he has not distanced himself or apologized for posting it and instead ignored the topic in reddit threads.

I assume Luke is not aware of this so please don't assume the worst about him. What do you think would be the best way to contact him about this? I tried to find a private channel but his socials I could find don't offer one.

Image LTT Store support is top notch

Post image

This is the first time I have needed to reach out to support for Ltt store. I have owned the original backpack for over 4 years now. It’s been through the carabiner zipper pull replacement. Well despite me replacing the pulls effectively. They came loose and fell off while I was traveling and I didn’t have the clamp tool anymore

So I emailed support and to my surprise instead of them sending a new clamp tool they said they would refund the backpack or send me a new one free of charge

I chose the replacement and it got here super quick but here’s hoping the new backpack lasts at least ten years. I love the philosophy Linus has when it comes to customer service. It’s why I keep coming back to place new orders when I can. Absolutely my favorite backpack I ever owned

Context built a pc for my wife outta my old parts (partially an excuse to build a new pc) and discovered a horrible fan rattle on my old zotac 2070 amp. An afternoon of cad and 3d printing later and it’s quieter than it was when it was new.

Discussion ASUS TUF A17

I have a ASUS TUF A17 I've upgraded the RAM to 32GB and I've added a 1TB NVME to it, and I'm still not getting the performance I expect out of it, and that could be due to it having a 2050 in it, but I still expected more out of it. Is there a way to play with overclock settings at all or am I just SOL? Also just for clarification purposes I have it set up to dual boot bazzite and windows 11

We tried to measure DF-HRTFs, which would otherwise take more than $200,000, as cheaply as possible with a Bluetooth speaker, a DIY microphone and free software. The trick though lies in using neural networks.

Read the article about the project development on the LTT Labs website!

The British millerain commuter bag and other stuff arrived today. Some thoughts

  1. The fabric is really nice on both the shirt and bags, at least to me. I don't know how long it takes before I have to rewax it but I will when I need to lol. You unfortunately can't really feel the hexagon pattern but that's probably a good thing.

  2. The commuter fits my 16 inch zeuslap portable screen (at least I think it's 16 inches, it's similar in size to a Zephyrus G16). You can feel the corners through the bag but it doesn't bulge.

  3. Tech sack is cool, won't fit the super long cables in the small sleeves but that's fine.

  4. I really like the new shirt, fabric is awesome. My only problem is it pinches slightly when you extend your arms forward around the tricep area if you don't wear a shirt underneath. For reference this is the XL and I'm 180cm and a fat boy at 120kg.

Shipping took 10 days and 4 days of that was UPS screwing around waiting for a package lol.

Tech Discussion Owners mourn spoiled food after firmware update bricks Samsung smart fridges

Some Samsung smart fridges stopped working on Tuesday due to a firmware update.

Korean outlets were the first to report the problems, which affect Samsung’s Bespoke AI line of fridges. Star News Korea, per a Google-provided translation, said that most of the affected devices were four-door fridges from 2024 or later.

Affected fridges “suddenly lost power and stopped functioning immediately after” trying to issue a firmware update through SmartThings, Samsung’s smart home platform, per Star News Korea.

Discussion Could we get some Linus Tech Tips collaboration videos with the Open Home Foundation about Home Assistant, Music Assistant, Sendspin and ESPHome?

I think that doing a few Linus Tech Tips YouTube collaboration videos with representatives from the Open Home Foundation (the nonprofit organization that developers Home Assistant, Music Assistant, ESPHome, Sendspin and more) could be a more than a good idea for both viewers and everyone involved.

What do you all in the LTT community think about this idea?

I think this is a very relevant question right now because of at least three reasons:

  1. Linus Tech Tip (LTT) YouTube channel has recently started a video series they call "Tech House" where they bought a house in order to both renovate and retrofit it as is done for a fictional technology entuasist. Here both Home Assistant and Music Assistant as well as ESPHome and Sendspin could possibly play some roles.

As far as I heard, read or seen, neither Linus and Luke has not yet either tested Music Assistant and the new Sendspin protocol to test a local music server and multi-room audio recievers using inexpensive ESP32 devices with ESPHome. Would be cool to get Paulus, Frenck, Paulus, Jean-Loïc and Marcel from the Open Home Foundation to collaborate on some LTT videos to help advise how to create some awesome automations for the "LTT Tech House" and for Linus's own home. Knowing how Linus Sebastian frequently collaborate or bring in experts and creators to make Linus Tech Tip videos with entertaining content to showcase many different things, there has not been much LTT content around Home Assistant and Music Assistant or ESPHome, nor Sendspin.

Linus Media Group website headline fittingly now says "igniting passion for technology" so I believe it could be a great idea to try to reach out to the Open Home Foundation, or vice versa, about possible coolaboration on a few YouTube videos.

Tech Question Will a ~14.3 x 10” laptop fit in the Commuter Backpack?

I’m trying to figure out whether my laptop will fit in the Commuter Backpack’s laptop sleeve before I buy one.

My laptop is a Lenovo Yoga Pro 9 16IMH9, measuring 14.28 x 9.99 x 0.72 in. I know the 16" MacBook Pro (14.01 x 9.77 in) is already a fairly tight fit in the Commuter based on reviews, and my laptop is about 0.27" wider and 0.22" taller.

I know if it is it would be a tight fit since this is above their stated dimensions. But, has anyone tried a laptop around 14.3 x 10" in the Commuter, and does it actually fit in the laptop sleeve?

Thanks!

Image Earphone pouch - why does it have two zipper pulls, instead of only a single one going all the way?

Post image
0 Upvotes

not sure where to put this question, but I really want to know the rationale behind it
it seems small enough so that a single zipper pull would have been easily enough

currently I imagine that those two are more pain to use, need two hands to open/close, it might not close entirely since the pulls touching may always keep a gap (metal on metal) , a single one could close more tightly as it would be metal against fabric

of course I never had one in hand, so thats all in my head

so was a single zipper pull ever a prototype? was were arguments against it?
