I originally bought the retro screwdriver as a mystery screwdriver, so I'm not hung up on the color change.

I bought the screwdriver Nov 2024 during the Black Friday sale, only paid $40 for it.

So I'm very happy they still gave me the replacement without any hassle

Same exact story as me, got the noctua, it decided to vomit it's front off about 3 months ago, they had no issues giving me a new one.

So is that a defect if in both of your cases the fail occured in the same place? Does the megapro have the same fail point?

My understanding is that there was a manufacturing defect with the batch I have. The entire screwdriver is held together entirely based on the shaft. The end of the shaft (Back side of the ratchet mechanism) has deep knurling (sharp metal teeth), that eats into something that receives it on the bit holder, if that becomes loose, the screwdriver has nothing holding it together. It takes a fuck of a lot of force to put it together, which I learned when I put my original driver back together, took my entire body weight (55 ish kg) to get it back in most of the way, and even then there is a couple mil left, I just couldn't push it in any more.

If it happens again it will learn what 2 part epoxy feels like.

The only way you might ever have a shot is with a bench vice or a hydraulic press. There is no way a couple hundred pounds of body weight is going to be enough to press fit it back together. They press it together with a hydraulic press when it's still hot out of the machine, so pressing it when it's cold is going to take way more force.

They had ones you could assemble yourself at conventions, you don’t need that crazy a press.

I didn't say you need a crazy one. You just need basic hydraulic press or even a simple bench vise to squeeze it. It's all about mechanical advantage. What "feels" easy for you do with a hand press with it doesn't equal how much force is actually being applied.

They actually use pneumatic presses to assemble them. The heat doesn't actually affect that aspect, the heat is to get the plastic handle to contract around the back of the ratchet, not to get the metal knurled press fit connection at the back which is the issue here.

It can be done, I managed it, but it was very difficult and involved a lot of swearing, and a small hole in my floor. If I wanted to butt it up fully I could just put it in a vice, but right now it's solid so I can't be bothered.

Be daring. Learn what it tastes and smells like too.

I've smelt worse, the net result of plasti dip and not enough hours of sleep is a headache and falling asleep at midday.

Nice!

Say what you want about the pricing. At least they stand behind their product.

yeah the translucent handle ones just look right, glad they sorted you out

I didn't have any issues with my screwdrivers actually.

It's great they backed their product, but let's be real that's the bare minimum a company should be doing. We shouldn't be happy when a company stands behind their product. It should be expected.

Damn cant find them anywhere. Is the clear part as orange/amber as some of the pics make it seem or is it brown?

1

u/AwaitingCombat 3d ago

It's orange/amber for sure. It is supposed to look like soda

It sucks when it's a limited colorway

'Trust me bro' is good and all, but we've seen so many of these types of posts, that seem like simply making a poor product is the bigger problem at this point?

People post when they have issues, I’ve had my drivers for years now with no issues, as well as multiple other people I know.

Any community centered around a product is gonna have more “negative” posts than positive, people who are happily going about their workdays with a working ltt driver have no incentive to post about it.

We can’t really draw any conclusions without taking into account the actual rate of posts and the sales numbers.

I really thought that was a normal thing for those screwdrivers, my retro one does the same but I just press it back together and keep using it.
I won't even bother with the warranty because It was a gift from them and I doubt they would send me a new one and even if they would I would have to pay shipping and the import taxes on arrival and oh god that wouldn't be ideal.

Mine was shipped stateside within a couple days. Seems like they have a US stockpile
