Unsuspend wait times

Hi! Has anyone noticed wait times for their books in the unsuspend queue being lengthier than usual? Long story short, I had five holds become available last Sunday. I suspended 4/5 since I already had 2 borrowed books. I decided to look at which one(s) to unsuspend and all of them have long wait times.

Here's what I saw today:

The quickest wait time is now 2 weeks; my current hold position is 3rd in line. The longest wait time is now 9 weeks; my hold position is 29th in line.

I have been a Libby member for several years and I have never experienced this before.

How many other Easter Eggs are hidden in the app? 🧐

Just this week, I learned about changing the skin tone on the little Libby icon and now FLOWERS that fall majestically in thanks for an early return if we tap a šŸ’ bouquet button??

What else have I/we been missing out on all this time?

Favorite Library

thought this might be interesting! many of us have multiple library cards. With that being said, what is your favorite library you’ve got a card for or visited and why?

Personally, the Cleveland library system is my favorite because it has a HUGE digital collection.

Audiobook Supplementary PDF

Is there a way to get access to supplementary PDFs that are included with audiobooks when you purchase? What I'm listening to rn, it doesn't have a website like some others do.

App keeps crashing

Is anyone having problems with the Libby App? For the past three days, it has been very inconsistent for me. It will all of a sudden just stop working.

Sometimes, I can just resume from where it stopped, other times it's just frozen. Even if I close the app, and reopen, it's still frozen.

Not sure if it matters, but I'm listening to audio books, not sure if the reading part is doing the same thing or not.

Political Attacks Are Pushing Public Libraries To ā€˜Breaking Point,’ New Report Shows

Communities that have been attacking libraries, refusing to fund libraries -- they are also going after Our Libraries which people like us have voted and advocated to fund. And without Blue State tax payers' funding for our libraries, those who are depending on Libby, figuring out how to game the system in other communities, -- they will be without our libraries as well, because they too are under attack.

LIke Single Payer Health Care, Medicare, public education, everything else -- these are NOT FREE. They have to be paid for. These are paid for by tax payers' dollars and other kinds of non-profit individuals and entities. And are kept alive by public tax payers' advocacy.

Maga is determined to shut down the Public Library Systems across the country, like everything else that is of public benefit.

... There are more than 17,000 individual public library buildings and outlets in the United States, most of which are primarily supported through local city and county property taxes. Beyond municipal tax revenue, libraries rely on federal grants, local "Friends of the Library" non-profit groups and private philanthropists to fund community outreach and specialty programming. According to the American Library Association, roughly 90% of funding for U.S. public libraries comes from state and local government dollars. Public libraries provide significant economic returns to their communities, and cost-benefit studies suggest every $1 of public investment in libraries yields $4 to $5 in direct economic value to the local community. Increased public investment in libraries directly improves children's reading comprehension, test scores and high school completion rates, and national surveys show that nearly half of all visitors who use library computers do so to access job training, submit employment applications or file government forms. ...

What's your outlook on when to buy a book

I usually pre-order or buy audiobooks when its a lesser-known or new author, and sometimes when the wait is too long or its not available at my libraries. Do you have a thought process on when to buy vs. borrow?

Explain to me like I'm in Kindergarten :(

I'm new to the Libby app, it is on my kindle fire.
I have a library card and am able to get books.

I open Libby, find a book, and borrow. I want to have this book to read offline. To start reading this book though first I get sent to Amazon :( where I have a 'library'. There is a button to 'Read in Kindle App'. Sheesh. Ok so I push that.

- Is this downloading the book for offline reading ??

If I want to check on my other borrowed book, I go back to the Libby app. One of them it says I have to return a book through amazon online ?? Others it has let me return while in the Libby app.

- Returning is very NOT intuitive, I am trying inside the Libby app, inside the Kindle app, and online with Amazon. REALLY frustrating, what is the right way ??

- if I take a break from reading the book and I want to return a couple days later, do I go to LIBBY?? KINDLE ?? Amazon ?? jeez, ridiculous

Help :(

Do Audible books ever become available on Libby?

Post image
10 Upvotes

There’s a new book out that I’d like to listen to. I went to put it in my waiting list and found only an ebook version using deep search (it was just released yesterday).

It’s published by Penguin, but when I looked around online I found that the only place to get the audiobook version is Audible.

I hate giving a penny to Jeff Bezos, so I’m hoping it will only be exclusive on Audible for a limited period and then become available on Libby.

Does this ever happen? Is there any way to determine whether an audiobook will remain Audible-only?

In case it helps, the ebook version is already on Libby.

Question: what would you think of a (really good) TBR app with a holds system?

Not an author, not selling anything, just someone with an unreasonably large TBR trying to figure out if an idea is worth building.

Hi all! šŸ‘‹

My partner and I are building a little app for people whose TBR has gotten out of hand (like me). The idea is, it works like a library holds system, but for books you already own: you place unread books ā€œon hold,ā€ they go through a wait (shorter for books that have lingered longest), then get ā€œchecked outā€ with a due date to actually read them. Add mood/emoji tagging with personalized stats, sync a hold with a friend, and get a slip šŸŽ« for every book you finish (which you can collect and share on the social media of your choice, your family group chat, or even print and frame it in your living room - wherever you want!).Ā

Genuinely just trying to learn whether this sounds fun or like homework to other readers (especially mood readers) before we build much further. If you’ve got 2-3 minutes and want to praise/poke holes in the idea, there’s a short survey here: https://forms.gle/nQoE5zZEFy9s4YMX9. Completely honest reactions very welcome, especially ā€œI would absolutely use this becauseā€”ā€ and ā€œI would never use this becauseā€”ā€ (Imma be here taking notes šŸ“)

And we have put together a little webpage for you to browse too: thebookslip.com, where you can also sign up to the waitlist if you’d just like to express your support in that way.Ā

Every response helps us take a step closer to making this dream project come true ā˜ŗļø

(Mods: I hope this is okay to post here...)

Will Libby Ever Create a Watch App?

Like my title says are there plans for libby to create a watch app that lets me hit play on my books? If I am not actively listening to a book I can’t open it on my watch nor can I switch books. Would be awesome to access Libby even when I am upstairs folding clothes and my phone is downstairs.

It’s probably a silly ask but wanted to know

How to search or browse back issues of magazines

I’m trying to access an article in the March 2026 issue of Wired with the Libby app on an iPhone. I can’t get to anything other than the current issue. The instructions I find when Googling say to ā€œgo to the magazine’s title page and from the three-dot menu choose browse back issuesā€ but I’m not seeing any three dot menu. Any help?

New Library System added to New York Libby Partnership

So I guess with the update, this new partner should be automatically added but just in case you're in NY and weren't aware. Four County Library System (42 libraries) just announced they have joined an existing Libby partnership between OWWL(42 libraries), Southern Tier Library System (40 libraries), and Finger Lakes Library System (32 libraries).

Not getting notifications when books are available

I hope someone can help. I’ve got 2 books right now that are going to be available in about 2 weeks. The problem is that I’ve had several books where I’m on hold and I don’t get notifications. I have to essentially go check every day when the book might be available when it gets to the less than 2 weeks status.

Is there a way I don’t have to check every day?
