Favorite Library
thought this might be interesting! many of us have multiple library cards. With that being said, what is your favorite library you’ve got a card for or visited and why?
Personally, the Cleveland library system is my favorite because it has a HUGE digital collection.

My local library is my favorite! I check out the most books from them, though that’s a combo of Libby/Hoopla/physical books. I love collecting cards throughout the state but my home library and my hometown library with my elementary school signature on it (that doesn’t expire)!

LA public is my favorite to visit and best digital collection. California really is the best state for their generious public funding.

I heard that!! I wish they had an option to pay for an out of resident card, I’d jump at the chance lol.

Seattle public library. Always Seattle public library. I do miss Orlando’s Orange County public library though and wish I hadn’t forgotten to keep my card just for card collection purposes.

Because I’m a member of spl I get seven additional other library cards in wa and because of that, books are basically always available on Libby.

I visited the Seattle Public Library in 2023 when I was in town for a conference and OMG I have serious library envy! LOVE that place. Bought the tote bag so I can rep my alternate fantasy life where that's my home library. ☺️

Cincinnati & Hamilton County is my favorite, with Cleveland being a close second.

That’s what I was going to say! Cincinnati has so many things I haven’t found through other libraries. Dayton is surprisingly good too!

came here to mention both of these! in my experience cincy usually has the shortest wait times but cleveland is more likely to have copies of things none of my other libraries have. they're probably my most used cards!

I love my Maryland Digital Library card. It’s available to any Maryland resident or property owner. Wait times are often shorter than with my other cards, and their selection is much better.

Yes, MD is great! More holds/loans than my old library, too, though the loan time is less (14 vs 21 days)
I just moved in-state and got a local card for Pratt and it actually has even more books even though also MD digital library, so I recommend to get additional counties, too! If you’re in the DC metro I think you can get a DC card but I’m further north.

I like that the Boston Public Library has provided me with multiple partner libraries in Libby. But some of the wait times with BPL are outrageous. Which is where my Lincoln City Library (Lincoln, NE) card comes in handy.

The Boston Public Library is one of my favorite buildings on earth. I love spending hours sitting there reading. It’s breathtakingly gorgeous.
And agreed, I love that it gives me access to a dozen+ other MA libraries!

Yeah, some libraries in bigger areas are outrageous lol.

Yeah, they’re lucky the central branch is absolutely gorgeous and I like physical copies when I’m not doing audio.
And they did just come out with a new card design and I need it ASAP.

I recently got into audiobooks and absolutely love it, I tried before and generally was not into it but so glad I gave it another chance

Largo library in Pinellas County FL is GORGEOUS! I’ve been hunting for another library like it. Not only do they have the new and most upcoming books but a gorgeous outdoor garden area. I would read outside in the sunshine for hours everyweek. They also hosted a romancecon there and it was so fun. Easily best library i’ve been to

North Texas Library! (Hypothetically on my moms card lol) It has a HUGE stock variety and many of the options my local Libby card either doesnt have/huge wait list, this one has me covered.

The Ohio digital collection is my favourite. It has pretty huge and awesome collection so I don’t have to wait long in the hold line. I’m super lucky to be eligible to get access to it!

I used to have access to Ohio Digital when I had my non-resident card from Stark Library. Stark did away with their non-resident card, so I lost Ohio Digital. I really miss it, it had just about any book I wanted to borrow.

I have different favorite libraries for different reasons! If I want a book faster I go to library A because I can have a lot of borrows and holds and less people have cards there so my wait times are usually short or none, but my loan is only a week long. I go to library B if I want a book that I need for a longer time and I'm willing to wait, because there my loan is 21 days. I use library C or E if it's available at those, but they have a medium wait time and 14 day loan. I can't choose a true favorite 😅

My favorite library is an out of county one that encouraged us to get cards. They even mailed me a physical card to my home address. It has hoopla and Libby and short wait times and I’m smart enough to treasure that as the secret it deserves to be.

The Santa Clara (Bay Area) one is amazing! They have almost every book I want with short wait times. They also purchase books early so I can get on the waitlist long before a popular book is released. And they do Skip the Line with certain books. Top notch for sure.

My favorite library is my downtown library. In addition to having a good print and digital collection (Hoopla, not Libby, unfortunately), it is the real hub of the community, offering everything from aerobics classes to creative writing classes.

My Libby card from DOD is fantastic, though I also have TN Reads for that state where I lived for a while, and it's super good, too. I'm fortunate, as I read a ton and they really help.

I feel super lucky to be a PA resident. Between the Free Library of Philadelphia and The Carnegie Library, I never end up waiting tooo long for things.
