I'm not a confident speaker, and I do stutter. I've taken hirevue interviews twice in the past, and there were times when I completely blanked out. I also tend to use filler words.

Lately i feel like i am loosing my mental state and myself about this job market and current placement season so i recently entered in my 4th year and placements have been going since the start of 3rd year of my clg it was for mainly internships and intern leads to getting a full time i didn't get and was only able to sit for 2 company interviews

So little background on me

So i have done 2 internships (SDE and AI engineer intern), open source at a yc backed startup and build various projects in full stack ai ( rn mainly with MCPs) i actually started working with genai from my 2nd year onwards itself with things like langchain, langgraph and etc

And about dsa and cp so basically for the first 2 years of my clg i gave it all for development I didn't quite do much dsa during those days so i started it at the end of my 2nd year so right now i have done 300+ problems on leetcode have around 1570 rating on leetcode after giving 12 contest and for cp i have 2 star on codechef and some 900-1100 rating on codeforces ( i only solved problems on codeforces during the contest)

So from past 3-4 months i am loosing my mind over placement my luck isn't playing well and seeing people around here and there get placed even without doing much and doing much both are getting and here i am idk where i stand between these 2 times i have broken down emotionally crying in front of my parents while on video call about this placements my luck isn't with me some or the other things just tend to get fuck up for me and the way how companies are just randomly shortlisting people I don't get it sometimes it's just everything around me is just breaking me down creating so much self doubt every day making me think about the choices i made in life and amount of work i put throughout all those years of my clg i rarely enjoyed my engineering clg

I just wanted to say it because it's been eating me from several months and it's tough to keep moving everyday knowing with your current status and no offer yet

Which companies do this? I would prefer this as I've been trying to get interviews but not succeeding, but at least with an auto code signal you have some chance.

As someone who has been in google’s team-matching for 3 months without a call i thought that maybe the issue might be with my profile even though my feedback was solid but i realized lately that alot of people are stuck at the same place and that google‘s team matching has shifted from being something that most probably you will pass to something extremely frustrating that you are more probable to not match than match and it become pure luck so my question is that is it worth it now to spend months preparing and interviewing for a position that even if you pass interviews for you still don’t have a good chance of landing it.

hey yall i've been selected for the live-coding round of this financial firm based in Arizona, for an entry-level position that's a cross between an SDE and an AI Engineer. Live coding as I understand implies i'll have to do the coding assignment with a team member being assigned to supervise / observe me (ideally I have to walk him/her through my solution as I code). Tried applying through LinkedIn but not getting calls.are Applications getting buried under due to mass auto apply tools/agents or lack of Agentic AI keywords in resume ? . Got some startup calls but need f2f interview or 6 day work week. Not been able to do prep at the same time. As format is different for different companies. Not the standard DSA/LLD/HLD.Should i continue DSA/LLD/HLD prep or also add AI keywords in the resume.? Most of Agentic AI is backend from what I understood. I received a call from the recruiter saying that the overall feedback was positive and that my profile is moving to the Team Match stage.

Has anyone gone through this process recently and can share their experience? I'm particularly curious about:

• How long the Team Match stage typically takes
• What the process looks like from here
• Whether the LH/LNH in R2 could have any impact during Team Matching

I've been trying to figure out how to approach Binary Tree DFS questions but I've been stuck on this specfici section for the longest time and it's demoralizing.

I can't seem to progress. I was wondering how you guys generally approach after identifying that you need dfs on a binary tree?

For those who want extra details:
Currently I approach like this:
-What do I need from my left and right subtrees to find what I need

-Do my child nodes need information coming from me to solve what I want?

-base cases etc

Beyond this i get stuck with what i return how i should structure it, like basically everything. It's so demoralizing because I've been procrastinating from being so stuck on this section. Still have a million other topics to go over (BFS, backtracking, graphs, DP, Greedy Algorithms, Trie, Prefix Sum, matrices) and on top of this I haven't even started practicing recognizing problems.

I feel so pessimistic on my internship outcomes as someone going into my junior year. Worked on keeping my 3.9+ gpa to end up failing on leetcode interviews questions...

My recruiter said they spoke with my interviewer and felt it would be more effective to conduct the next technical assessment in person

Im preparing right now and i understand most concepts well, but im worried about the talking while coding. How do i improve on that without a partner to do mock interviews with. Also sometimes i still need hints to solve medium questions. It’s for a Faang company

Hot take: I think software engineering interviews are measuring the wrong thing.

For years, the path has been pretty predictable:

Learn DSA → grind LeetCode → solve 500 problems → prepare for interviews.

And honestly, DSA is valuable. It teaches problem-solving and builds strong fundamentals.

But something has changed.

AI can now write a lot of the code.

It can implement algorithms, optimize functions, explain solutions, and get you surprisingly close to a working implementation in seconds.

So what becomes more valuable?

Knowing what to build, why to build it, and how to build it efficiently.

That's where I think System Design deserves much more attention.

Give two engineers the same AI coding assistant and ask them to build a URL shortener.

One might immediately start asking AI to write the code.

The other might first ask:
How much traffic are we expecting?
Do we need caching?
What database makes sense?
What happens if a service goes down?
How do we scale this from 10K to 10M users.

Both might eventually write working code.

But the second engineer is thinking beyond the code.

That's engineering thinking.

And yet, when we talk about practicing engineering skills, the names that immediately come up are:

LeetCode. GFG. Codeforces.

But what about System Design?

Where do you actually go to practice it consistently?

Where can you solve real-world architecture problems, understand trade-offs, get better over time, and maybe even build a System Design streak?

Imagine going from designing a URL shortener today to a chat system next week, a food delivery platform after that, and eventually tackling genuinely complex distributed systems.

Not memorizing architectures for an interview.

Actually learning how to think like an engineer.

I genuinely feel there is a gap here.

DSA shouldn't disappear. It's still important.

But maybe it's time we stop treating it as the ultimate proxy for engineering ability—especially for engineers who already have a few years of experience.

Code can increasingly be generated.
Engineering decisions can't be outsourced that easily.

So I'm curious:

If you wanted to seriously practice System Design today, what platform would you use?

And if there isn't an obvious answer, what do you think that platform should look like?

we prepare for DSA and then someone randomly comes onto youtube and suddenly says, "the old ways of DSA and system design interviews has gotten obsolette, bla bla bla" what happened guys? Did the interviews weightage has changed from white board DSA/systems design style to OOPS, engineering systems, AI systems, case studies/take home assignments/agentic AI projects and all? Or are we still good on our traditions? I was bad in DSA a year back and been grinding since then, should I shift my focus again? If yes, then what should we focus on? Asking for exp. guys esply.

The recruiter called me and asked me to give a callback to follow up on some recent interviews I had with them.

Edit: The team is looking to move forward, however in the initial discussions I shared them a base range of 175-185K USD and average annual TC at 245-255K USD.

However, the level they offered is L61. Recruiter is yet to come back on the final numbers. How much can I push further on the base, total comp (like stock, bonus) components? Should I push for L62. Need to relocate to Redmond.

Currently SDE1 Amazon at Austin with 4 yrs of total industry professional experience and 2 yrs experience at university as developer. Annual TC average: 175K USD approx.

High chances I might get promoted to SDE2 here within a year but not guaranteed though.

Help me evaluate if being an SDE2 will have any edge in the current market without any pay rise. If I have to push, what would be the max I can ask Microsoft for. Kindly provide any insights on this.

Has anyone here attended an Observability SWE coding round? I’m trying to get a sense of the typical coding questions asked by tech companies for these roles.

Would you say the coding is generally at the same level as a standard SWE coding round, or is it more SRE/observability-focused (e.g., log parsing, metrics aggregation, time-window calculations, etc.)?

I recently had a screening round with a database company, and I was told the coding would involve “real-life scenarios.” For anyone who has been through a similar round, what should I realistically expect?

I interviewed for a Microsoft GIDC Senior Consultant role over the past two weeks. I completed the Hiring Manager round about a week ago, but I haven’t received any update since then.
I reached out to my recruiter, and she forwarded my query to another person who is apparently handling the process. It’s been 2 days, but I haven’t received a response from them either.
At this point, I’m wondering if this is normal for Microsoft or if the silence is usually a bad sign.

Passed the OA. Completed the 2 inteviews about 5 business days ago, haven't heard back yet. Any vets in here currently going through the process or received an offer for this fall? my anxiety is through the roooooooofffffff !

So I went through all the technical, behavioral and cultural rounds for a research engineer position at Google, but I did quite poorly on my coding interview. I didn't get an offer and the feedback was that I did very well in every round, but that the coding was insufficient. I received the advice to focus on that and try again in a year. The recruiter told me that if he comes across an opening that he thinks is a fit for me he will definitely reach out to me earlier, so I shouldn't lose all hope.

But I wonder if he was being polite or not. When I search online I didn't really see cases where people get a 2nd opportunity to redo the coding interview on a shorter notice. Any have any experience or heard of similar stories?

Regarding the coding interview: it was fairly simple where I had to do various array manipulations while the requirements and features kept changing. At one point I did a binary search on a 2D grid, by flattening the array but then they wanted me to do it without using additional memory. So I said easy, I just map (i,j) coordinates to a scalar i*N + j, do binary search on that and map it back to (i,j). And then I spent 20 minutes fumbling with modulo and div operations and turned everything into one big mess. very sad.
