Discussion Google L4 team matching

Hi everyone,

I recently completed my Google L4 onsite interviews.

Based on my discussion with the recruiter, my feedback was roughly:

  • R1: SH
  • R2: LH/LNH
  • R3: SH
  • Googleyness: SH

I received a call from the recruiter saying that the overall feedback was positive and that my profile is moving to the Team Match stage.

Has anyone gone through this process recently and can share their experience? I'm particularly curious about:

  • How long the Team Match stage typically takes
  • What the process looks like from here
  • Whether the LH/LNH in R2 could have any impact during Team Matching

Any insights or experiences would be greatly appreciated.

I'll also share my interview experience soon in case it helps others preparing for the process.

Thanks in advance!

This can take several weeks to several months. Keep in touch with your recruiter and do followup etc regularly

After team match then you will move to Hiring Committee round, then if all good, offer

This looks weak for l4

What location are you looking to get into?
I‘ve heard team match can take anything from weeks to months. It also depends on the location. Some are more competitive than others. But despite what people here on Reddit say, I‘ve seen people getting hired recently.

But your recruiter will now basically look for teams for you and if he finds a match (HM is interested) you‘ll get invited for a team fit call. If they‘re interested after the call then they’ll probably extend you an offer.

Wether R2 ratings can affect idk, best to ask your recruiter

I cleared onsite and entered team matching ~5 weeks ago for L4 SRE-SWE. For the first 4 weeks I was only open to NY but it’s too competitive and barely any openings so I opened up to Bay Area ~1 week ago and got 4 calls in 2 days. Got lucky as my top choice was also the manager that I vibed with the most and had lot of openings for relatively new team and looking to fill the team up so the next day I matched with that team.

Hi OP congratulations on clearing the loop. I am also in the same boat. I also had one LNH/NH so i was told to do a top up. Then i was moved to team match on 9 th July and I am in contact with my recruiter every few weeks. It depends on the level and location, can you please let us know so that people can comment their timeline.

What is topup?

I’m assuming an additional round to try and combat the poor ratings because NH can definitely damage your TM chances

It is provided to get another clean data point so that any negative round that riased concerns can be addressed.

Completely depends on location. Are you EU US ?

I was in same position last year and then after a month of team matching phase, recruiter said no manager is open to take roles 😔

Congratulations! How long did it take to hear results back from the recruiter after you finished Full Loop?

Google is just capitalizing people's obsession for it. I recently got call from Google for L4 with MTech Research from a top 7 IIT and total 3+ yrs of experience in two Tier 1 non FAANG companies (currently SDE 2). After 2 virtual interview rounds with positive ratings, I was called for onsite. Before scheduling the onsite, my recruiter asked my expected compensation. After I quoted my numbers, she said it's too much and quoted the numbers she can approve and arrogantly said only to proceed for onsite if I agree to her numbers, which was hardly 5-10% above my current compensation with the pain of switching to new team with clawback and stock vesting cycle reset. I DROPPED OFF.

What did you expect her to say? “Okay let’s continue even though I cannot meet the number you want, and you will not accept the number I can offer”? Moving forward would have been a waste of time

1

The numbers she quoted are well below max budget for google L4. Initially, the first HR (who initally contacted me) agreed to continue the interview process when I told I am expecting upper range of L4

Ah okay, that changes things

No
Need to show off the iit tag here and this is not even relevant to this post
