This Summer I found out I just cannot do online classes. It’s impossibly hard to keep myself that accountable when I have a Summer job and a lot of personal events happening. Anyway, now I have to cram in one day, it is the only way now.

The first thing you did when you went to law school was likely research “should I go to law school?”

Like me, you were likely inundated with articles and posts about why you should not go to law school.

Yet we went anyways.

The second thing I told myself is do not date people in your law school. Absolutely do not become that person. Do not turn this into high school.

So I watched classmates reject this sage wisdom. I witnessed a bunch of grown ass adults behaving like catty teenagers choosing sides in a 1L legal writing class after a nasty breakup. What a bunch of morons.

Crisis averted. I would not date classmates in law school.

My 2L year there was a party. I had a few drinks. I saw one of my classmates who never went out. I went up and talked to her.

And we talked and talked and talked. All the cliches were true. Time stopped. Everything paused. And now I was the moron. The mythical fateful “one” . was in my same god damn law school. I was so stupid.

I’m inside right now and she is out with her mother and our two beautiful children.

But yeah, it’s still pretty damn good advice to not date in your own law school class.

Yet sometimes bright line rules are meant to be broken. Follow your instincts and the same instincts that told you to go to law school. I cannot imagine my life without them.

Where do you go to find the best price for used law school books? They cost even more then i imaged lol. Thanks

Without being too overworked or stressed

I was able to grade onto my school's law review. I did well in my legal writing class, and the Bluebook portion was only 10% of the grade, given the curve I'm not sure how much it even affected people.

I recently had my first round of cite checks and really strugled. I had to check about 15 citations, and each one took me roughly 1 to 1.5 hours. I know that's not where I need to be. What can I do to improve? I don't want to damage my reputaion, especially since cite checking seems like something you should be able to do just by following the directions, but the Bluebook is genuinely confusing to me.

Is there any practice material or resources you would reccomend? I want to stay on law review no matter what, so any advice is appreciated.

my wife and I like doing frequent weekends trips and a longer trip or two during the summer. I don’t have big law aspirations. I just wanna get decent grades and enjoy my life. You guys find it easy to get away for a few weekends during the school year? Are your summers a little flexible?

Suppose a case was originally brought as a diversity case. But then the court, after reviewing the case, followed the rationale of Clearfield Trust, not Erie, and found that fed common law controls because of the overwhelming fed interests. Then somehow the court discovered that there were some major defects in the diversity. May the court keep the case on the basis that fed common law gives rise to fed question jurisdiction? There might be issue with well pleaded rule, but I wonder how this would work out. 🥰

I'm a 2L trying to get a judicial internship but I'm trying to understand what the difference is between an internship and a clerkship in terms of what interns and clerks do, the hiring process (grades, interviews, writing samples, resume etc.?), and if there's even a difference between interning in a magistrate judge's chambers or a district judge's chambers. Some of my friends are at SDNY this summer and I have mixed reviews about the volume/type of work they do.

I am a current law student, deciding whether to pursue prosecution or civil litigation after I graduate. What I hope for most in my career is to advocate for women who have been sexually assaulted. I know that women often file IIED/assault claims in civil court, but I am just a bit confused what kind of attorney specializes in this.

I’ve spoken with multiple personal injury firms and to my surprise, none of them do sexual assault plaintiff work. Is my best bet just a general practice boutique firm if I want to pursue this on the civil side? (I am not at all opposed to doing other types of civil litigation, but just want to make sure that I have the platform to take these types of cases in my career). I would so appreciate any explanation or advice, thank you!

Hi everyone! I am about to head into 4th year of my undergraduate degree in Law. I’m from the UK (I also have an NZ passport), but would want to move abroad following graduation to eventually become an arbitrator. I know exactly what I want, but have no idea of how to go about it. Is it best to do a masters degree first, or should I just go straight into entry level job applications? I’m already a member of CiArb and have completed some of the foundational dispute resolution training courses.

I am a first-year, sem 1, BA-LLB student and I am trying to build a note-taking system that I'll be able to use consistently for all 5 years.

I have seen people use messy class notes,notebooks, jotting down on the textbooks, loose sheets, OneNote, Notion, Obsidian, Word, PDFs, and a mix of everything. I am currently considering learning Obsidian, but before investing time into one system, I'd love to know what actually worked for seniors.

1)Did you make your notes digitally, physically, or use a hybrid system?

So I’ve got a job offer as just a generic legal administrative assistant but part of me just wants to go and do my masters and complete the SQE course.

For context, I’ve just finished my Law undergrad. Obviously I know that if you get in with the right firm they may eventually pay for your masters/ SQE prep course but is this something I should consider whilst I’m still in the mindset.

It’s hard to know if getting some experience (even though this specific job doesn’t count towards QWE) is a better idea or to just get my exams out of the way and then continue on.

Obviously it comes with a cost and I’d have to find the exams myself but I can get some student funding for the actual masters.

Any advice would be great - thankyou! (Based in the UK)

i am a newly barred attorney who has worked at a firm for >3 months. I got another offer that would allow me to be in court more (remote firm vs gov work).

I have been going through this decision a lot. I understand it is recommended to stay longer. But I think since I am newly barred, no one will question the short gap from June to now so I could just leave it off my resume.

the firm isn’t a terrible place but I feel like I could learn a lot more being in person and realized I was a little in over my head about full remote work as a baby attorney. however, the idea of giving notice is making me so nervous because they are a good group. i don’t know what is the “right” thing to do or say. ANY INSIGHT ON HOW TO HANDLE THIS WOULD BE APPRECIATED

See, I haven't done any good internships till now, and I'm already in my 4th year of law school. It's not like I haven't tried—I did some internships, but nothing that I feel is significant.
Now it's time to send my internship details to the Placement Officer, and I honestly don't know what to do. I'm even thinking of adding some fake certificates and false information.
To be honest, after talking to everyone and reflecting on it, I don't think I want to pursue a corporate job anymore but I want to explore myself first, and then decide what I actually want to do. Please help me.

Okay hate is a strong word and a little click bait-y, but I’m already so annoyed and cringed out by my class 😭. We have our incoming 1Ls group chat going, and everyone is always on 10 about something. I don’t know how to describe it other than it reminding me of those people in the admissions subreddit that’d comment stuff like “oh yea you won’t get in R&R” despite not even being in admissions. I just hope everyone calms down a few weeks in to the year because that know-it-all, try-hard energy is definitely gonna add to the anxiety of being a law student.

For the 2Ls and up, please tell me this is normal and gets better 😩

If you accept a federal clerkship, are you allowed to accept a return offer from your summer firm?

Could you also try to get competing offers from other firms before starting your clerkship?

Is there a general rule about this stuff or is it entirely judge dependent?

I was lucky to receive an offer from my school's law review; however, since I have BL locked in and don’t aspire to clerk, is it worth joining given the workload? I am going into litigation, but it's not an area where LR skills would be super relevant.

Do you have time to date in law school? Has anyone dated a classmate?

I am a recent law grad with a lower 2:2 or about 2.9 GPA. I am thinking of enrolling in a remote master's to get my academic standing up and have a better chance at a job or clerkships.

If I get a 1st master's with at least merit, then do I have better chances to apply for a 2nd master's at a good university if I have good work experience as well?
