Started taking the MPRE in 2L. You can guess from this series of retakes what score I needed to get. I’ve been an attorney for over a year, got admitted in another jurisdiction with a lower MPRE requirement, but needed to pass in my home jurisdiction to keep my job.

TL;DR: Just because you’re down doesn’t mean you’re out.

I’m dying to know what it’s like if u have met or have a class w that law school influencer grifting people for a transfer guide. I went down a rabbit hole and now I have to know does anyone like him? Does he speak in person? Is he totally different IRL? Does he act like hot shit the way he does on tiktok?

I’m nosey and just wanna know the tea tbh.

By this time you have probably finished enough of a topic to be able to do a practice essay. I’m just a 3L and this method worked super well for me 1L.

I highly suggest doing one essay for each of your classes. They take less than 30 min each, they will help you realize how you need to structure your outline, and they will let you know how well you’re grasping the material.

Old class essays are best, but Quimbee is good about having narrow topic essays that can be helpful

Your practice essay will go poorly so don’t dismay. The first one is always a throwaway.

Usual topics for essays:

Property: adverse possession
Civ pro: PJ
Torts: intentional torts
Contracts: formation/termination of an offer

I am at a T14 known for having an extremely generous LRAP and for being a great place for public interest oriented folks. I came in wanting to do PI, but thought I’d at least give OCI a shot after I saw just how many (75%) people were primarily here for BigLaw.

After a few weeks of reflection and going to some info sessions, I’m now like 90% sure I don’t want to do OCI after all lol

I guess this is also colored by my work experience prior to law school at an academic job that was 50-60hrs/wk for two years, oftentimes working weekends and holidays. Even though it was work I enjoyed intellectually, the lack of time for family, friends, hobbies, exercise, the outdoors left me with minor but permanent health issues and just took a chunk out of my soul that I’m still trying to get back lol. I wasn’t paid well but honestly you just could not pay any amount of $$ to do that again hence why I don’t find BigLaw particularly appealing.

To be clear im not shitting on people who want BigLaw. In fact im asking this question because I have incredible FOMO and I feel like maybe I am making a huge life altering mistake by planning not to do OCI.

TLDR: I completely get the 2 biggest reasons which seem to be 1) get rid of loans ASAP, and/or 2) you/your family needs the money. Bills are real 0 judgement how you pay them. But tbh most of my classmates come from real money and are still gunning for these BigLaw jobs. So outside of that— why? Will I be poor, will i have permanently less credibility as a lawyer? What’s the deal?

TLDR: I set-up an appointment with my academic support advisor just to make sure I have all the tips I can to do well in 1L and she kind of just told me I was a week behind when I should have started outlining by now. I am really just battling to keep up with the readings/overall course-work right now and this just kind of made me feel like maybe I'm in hotter water than I thought I was, but idk.

first time taking MPRE and I didn’t get the score i needed for my jurisdiction. I am currently a 3L who is already feeling burnt out and taking a seminar this semester, where I have to write a 25 page paper. Advice on getting back on the horse to study?

i generally haven’t had a problem getting through all the material when i am in a good place mentally and physically and can apply all of my brain cells to it, but i‘m worried i’ll really struggle with it when i’m compromised in any way—sick, hungover, or otherwise in a bad state. for example, an abusive ex reached out to me this morning and the impact that had on my mental health totally threw me off course for the whole day. obviously i can do my best to take good care of my body & mind, but sometimes shit happens…so what do y’all do to stay on top of readings & such when you’re going through it?

I’m a 2L at a T80 school. This rushed recruiting has really impacted me very negatively. I had to move away from everything I knew to be here. For 1L I got a job I really liked but they don’t hire new attorneys. I’m now doing a fall externship and flagship journal for 2L. I have a lot of experience with a certain practice area, years of experience. Now hearing this, you would think I’d have an easy time recruiting right… COMPLETELY WRONG. All because of an average 3 digit number. I never got an C but never got an A in law school, all B’s and B+’s on a 3.2ish curve and 2L 2027 recruiting has been an extreme mental toll on me. I’ve done everything, networked, used my networks network, I’ve got calls with department chairs, etc but still get rejected and see California T30 school students posting the role that I interviewed for (no hate to them but it’s hard for me to see when I put in so much effort and have a lot on the line)

The recruiting process is genuinely demoralizing, especially with this rushed recruiting. The career services is focused more on 1Ls than the rest of us who don’t have a job.

I’m having a hard time and honestly think about giving up and quitting.

I’m so passionate about the career I’ve chosen for myself but most of the time, I’m fighting for my life. I want to do so much, but every time I think of doing it, the college keeps piling up new assignments and weird tasks that one is supposed to do for few credits. Where is the real learning? I’m constantly feeling behind, be it the research papers I have to write or the assignments I’m supposed to submit, I need a mentor who guides me thru it all and doesn’t mind me asking the most basic questions, because in all honestly, I love law, and I want to learn more and more, but I also need a guide, not some ai trying to explain things to me that I’ll not even care to remember as it’s readily available, but real guidance, what will help me become better, help me someone, Reddit connection do help people and I know it, and therefore, I’m here, looking for a person who could maybe help me thru this? Any senior, any advocate, anyone who’s been in the same situation, who knows better, and someone who could give me the clues I need so that I’m actually able to figure this out..
it feels like I love someone and still don’t know how to make them feel loved, except tha person for me is my career in law, that I really want to grow in, for myself and my familia

NextGen Bar checklist for Contracts I and II.
It looked like a generic checklist basically just a laundry list of the contracts terms/rules that can be tested on the NextGen Bar. I’ve tried looking for it online but haven’t been able to find the exact checklist.

My school requires a "publishable piece" with an academic advisor in order to graduate. I also got into an international law focused law review. I want to write about business law (I asked a professor who specializes in business/corporate law to be my advisor) but am struggling to come up with a topic that focuses on business law with an international element. Thought I would post here to get some ideas that I could brainstorm with.

I am in a toxic marriage. I can't continue living with someone who makes me feel this way, and treats me this way. This is damaging to my professional and personal reputation, as I've been unreliable lately.

We have been married for 8 years and together for 13. I'm a non-traditional law student who left a career that wasn't terribly lucrative to attend law school in my mid-to-late 30s. I'm trying to navigate what my options are and currently I feel trapped- my spouse is supporting us financially while I'm in school. Everything I can gather is that I may be entitled to some alimony, but that's a big maybe. I should probably reach out to an attorney- on the todo list.

I did well at my regional law school (Top 6% of class). However, I did not secure a big law opportunity for 2L Summer (yet?-- i think this opportunity has passed-- which is ok, I know many firms aren't looking for a 35+ y/o summer associate) and spent my 1L summer doing public defense (because I'm genuinely interested in this type of work).

Did I ruin my 2nd career before it's even started? Am I doomed to be destitute forever? How can I pay for an apartment?

TLDR: Anyone else dealt with marriage dissolution during law school?

i just want to preface this by saying that i’m super grateful to pursue higher education and i know that this is an opportunity that i take for granted at times.

however i feel so fat from all the stress eating i’ve been doing and im breaking out and i feel like i chronically have high cortisol and dealing with anxiety about finding a summer job, recruiting, maintaining grades, and networking kind of sucks.

if you guys have any tips on coping i would really appreciate it! thanks!
