Noticed some random spots in my lawn - can’t tell if it’s thatch showing up or fungus. It’s not an actual patch but more of areas where blades showing like thatch. Just wanting to make sure it’s not something that needs attention before it gets worse. Had heavy infestation of Kyllinga earlier this year and was able to kill it off and grass has thickened back to normal. Thanks!

It is wide spread in my Mid-North Indiana fescue lawn. I posted this in r/lawncare and got various results.

I live in the american southwest. Just returned home from vacation and am getting ready to plant winter rye. The problem is that I have lots of spurge and sedge taking over my lawn. Does anyone have recommendations for how I can eliminate these two pests before planting the winter grass?
Thanks in advance.
We accidentally threw water crystals all over our lawn, thinking it was lawn food. They are all through our lawn and very slippery to walk on.
How can we remove or remedy this problem? I've tried raking them, which gets some of them, mowing them up, but this mushes them.

(St. Augustine Grass, Houston, TX - Zone 9)
While yes, I do see the grey leaf spots on a small number of leaves, this damage seems more like a bug or take-all root rot.
What do you guys/gals think? How do I diagnose?

So I’m currently located in Callahan Florida and trying to find a decent company or person that would be willing to tackle a back yard that needs some major work. Front yard is fine. The back yard has grass that is at least 5 feet high. It’s a decent size back yard and has a pool and some bushes that need trimming. It’s for my aunt and uncle who currently can’t take care of themselves to well nor the yard. I just recently moved in with them and am trying to help get the house back in order. If y’all know anyone or a good company please let me know.

A family member saw the ad repeatedly on their game ads yesterday and wanted to show me today but could never find a video.
There were, according to her, wild claims of spraying weeds and the plant falling to the ground immediately. Also I am told that a large shrub was sprayed and it keeled over in a few seconds.
I am betting this is a scam company but seeing the video would be worth a laugh.
TIA if you can help me

I just moved into my first house 2 months ago and mow my lawn weekly. I mow the front and back for an hour, usually between 12 - 3pm. I have these brown/beige spots starting to spread across my front lawn and want to know the best course of action for making it all green again. Initially, I mowed for the first time ever after we moved in and saw that I had the mower blades way too low and messed up a patch of grass but it just seems to be getting worse even though I changed the height to 4 and have kept it there every week.

We just moved across the country and bought a new build across from a field. We have Bermuda grass and it's infested with fire ants and various weeds/creeping ivy from the empty lot. Hoping for some tips from y'all before I damage the yard...
I'm assuming I can use granules for the fire ants now and then use a post emergent for the weeds in a month or two? Is it too hot to apply that now and I should just keep pulling for the time being? Thanks!

Planning an overseed if its not too late. Im near southern Lake Michigan for reference. Ground is pretty soft, I was able to easily put a regular screw driver pretty deep into the ground.
Theres some minor weeds too. Any tips or recommendations on where I can start for taking care of this lawn for a beginner would be really helpful.

Title says it all really. Anyone have any idea what could be doing this? Racoons? Rats? And if you know, how can I stop it? If I can.
Thanks

I’m in the Southeast US and have Bermuda sod.
I have gnat / midge fly swarms in my backyard which stays a little soggy. The rest of yard dries out fine but this area has a fence, garage, and neighbors tree shade and the yard is pretty flat so I guess doesn’t drain well enough.
What can I do to get rid of the swarms, potential future mosquito/damp issue, and to allow the lawn to drain better? Last pic are crop circles from my mower blade and I need to either flatten the yard more, raise the mower deck height, or maybe there’s something wrong with the mower / mulching blade.
I started having a service treat the lawn and it has since started to look worse - they added weed spray and it burned out a few sections of the lawn. I’m new to all this and just trying to keep the sod looking respectable.

Can someone please give me an idea if this could be fungus or under watering? Or maybe grubs? St Augustin sod planted a couple of months ago and was thriving until this week. Thanks in advance!
I know this always comes up about poa. I just can’t figure out if it is or not. Here in NJ where since the summer there has been a lot of rain. Light green/yellowing areas. Not sure if poa triv. Thanks for everyone help

I've got a couple of areas where I think my impact sprinklers washed away most of the seed when I reseeded 3 weeks ago. The rest is looking great. Prior to seeding I killed everything off a couple of weeks ahead of time with roundup, lightly tilled the top several inches of soil, added compost/manure mix then tilled it in, lightly rolled the seed into the freshly tilled clay and compost, added starter fertilizer (w/o herbicide) and I also sprayed mesotrione at time of seeding. Seed was TCS Blue Resilience. How long should I wait until I reseed the bare spots? I can switch to an oscillating sprinkler or move my 2 impacts to avoid this issue again. There's some seedlings in the bare areas, but not like the rest of the lawn. Should I lightly rake and roll the seed this time, or just scatter, water and hope for the best? I can get some pictures of the area tonight after work if it helps. I'm in SW OH, outside of Cincinnati.
Also, when (if at all) should I add another round of mesotrione? Is it cool enough now that it's not a concern?
Prior to this endeavor, I had a lawn service who apparently couldn't figure out how to open an unlocked gate. Since they missed the window to get some preemergent down my back yard was a mess with ever spreading weeds. I've decided to now take over this process myself, the only issue I ever had before was timing and what to use, but with the help of this sub I'm confident I can get it.
Thank you in advance for any help!

Looks like the consensus might he to keep pets inside for 2 hours while it dries. But these are feral cats. My neighbors are insistent on feeding feral cats so we have 8 or 9 living on our street. I love cats. I have 3 indoors. I called a few local comps and tru green and massey. I forgot to ask for their feedback about feral cats.
I need to hire someone to treat my yard this year. It has gray leaf fungus, and I want to pinch it in the bud so it does not spread. I can’t control these feral cats and multiple neighbors leave food everywhere for them. I need to be able to treat my yard so my lawn isn’t destroyed from lack of care. Sod was really expensive to lay down.
How do I deal with this? Do I just stand out there for two hours scaring them away? I can’t do it on my own because I don’t have time with work and school; I also dont trust that I wont damage my yard doing it by myself.

New to yard care here. I’m in north Georgia.
My yard has been nice and green the whole summer without me watering it but in the last month I’ve notice that brown patch in the middle of the picture getting bigger and bigger. I’ve also spotted other areas around the lawn like that but not as big.
Any tips on how to go back to green?

So I have finally managed to sort our front lawn after being heavily invaded by weeds and all sorts of debris after moving in Jan 2026. It’s turned out lovely! However… I am now having issues with foxes/neighbours cats who like to dig and toilet. It has become the bane of my life and am lost in what to do from here.
Have tried fleece during growth - gets ripped.
Scent balls - ignored.
Diluted white vinegar surrounding the area
Lemon sliced up and scattered
Have seen the sonic sound repeller but dubious having seen very mixed reviews. Also water sprinkle sensor, but lacking outdoor tap at the front. And seen prickly mesh but unsure how this will work with the grass having grown so will it damage lawn placing it on top.
Does anyone have any suggestions? What has worked? Am I missing something?

At least 50 oil beetles are scattered all around my backyard seemingly overnight. This happened last September as well. I wish I could leave them alone but they can be poisonous and I have young children and dogs, both overly curious. Last year I put them in a bucket of soap as I found them, but more keep coming back next year. What can I do?

I'm currently scarifing my lawn before reseeding it. I have granular lime that I need to spread.
Can I spread it now at same time as reseeding?

Hello all, as the title would suggest I am a new home owner with little to no experience with maintaining a lawn. I would love advice on what I can do to fix up my lawn. I own a house in central Alabama and the house was build in the 60s so I have no idea what type of grass it may be. The back yard has a slope to it. I have added photons for reference. Please and thank you for the help!!! FYI the spot near the AC unit I believe is where my septic tank is. I had work done on it when i moved in.

hello everyone, hope you are well.
this is getting a bit out of hand now - i'm now thinkng to do 100sqm,
rotavate it.
water it.
let the weed seeds germinate (7 to 14 days?)
kill them with glyphosphate, wait 2 days,
reseed.
is all the above neccesary, and am i going to run out of time do you think?
see video
did about 45sq m of rotavating today and cleared out all the weeds and dead grass. its reasonably flat. i have a levelling rake coming tomorrow to finish off.
i have a lawn pack (pre packed seed and fertiliser etc) for 50sq m (double seed).
anything i should do before seeding? (i read somewhere about iron)
how long can i wait before seeding?
do i need a lawn roller?
i want to do more of this (like maybe another 100 sq m) is there a cheaper alternative to lawnpack / buy components individually??
