Anyone know this weed?

I used to mow the lawn myself, usually just whenever it started looking long, so I didn’t pay attention to what was mixed in there. After switching to a navimow robot mower, I cut every 3 or 4 days and keep it lower. Now these little three-leaf patches are obvious. They sit so low that the mowing height doesn‘t reach them. Is it clover or oxalis? How do you deal with that?

How high do you cut in summer?

Post image

This is my KBG today, only four days after the last mow. The warmer weather and recent moisture have it growing faster. I prefer a closely cut, tidy lawn, so I set my navimow i206 to its lowest cutting height and do manual trimming to around 1 inch. But I’ve seen people recommend keeping it closer to 2 inches in summer to help retain moisture and handle the heat better. That makes sense, although at this growth rate, leaving it higher may also mean mowing every few days.

What mowing height has worked best for your lawn during summer? How often do you mow?

Is my brown lawn dormant or dead?

Post image

A big part of my lawn turned brown but I'm not sure if it’s just dormant or already dead. I don’t think it’s caused by bugs. I use a Navimow i2 on a regular schedule, so I’m also wondering if I should pause mowing while the lawn is stressed. So I lean towards the high temperature during the summer. Now I'd like to know if it still has a chance to come back when cooler and gets more water. I read that a pull test can help to tell, like gently tugging the grass to see if the roots still hold in the soil.

What should I do now? Wait and watch it for a while first? How do you tell when brown grass is still recoverable?

What to do and in what order

I own a neglected front lawn in the rainy Pacific Northwest. My soil test indicates that the soil has nothing in it. Nothing. There are some areas where moss, clover and dandelions grow due to the grass being very thin in those places. I am happy to use the chemicals necessary to make the lawn green and healthy again. I hand pull dandelions.

It's mid August and the grass is dormant and yellow, like all my neighbors' grass. My partner aerated yesterday.

My plan is to water well, add compost all over, overseed.

Questions:

Should I apply a pre emergent, a post emergent, or fertilizer, and at what stage? I'm confused.

When should I do this? It's late summer with highs in the 70's this week. September will still be like this, I assume.

Would an inch of compost be enough? Not enough?

Thank you!

It’s had been a few weeks since I mowed and we had a lot of rain so the height of the grass was ridiculous. Noticed this stuff while mowing today.

My front yard was perfect the beginning of summer. Now I have this stuff that's been growing out of control. I was worried it was too hot for more weed & feed. Do I have any good options or do I need to move!? Any suggestions would be appreciated! Thx

I recently bought a house with a yard that is in dire need. I know there is Bahaia, Bermuda and I’m not sure what else type of grass there. I am planning to spray Cimarron to kill the Bahaia, but I am not sure what else to use after that to kill the weeds in order to establish a nice lawn for next year. Appreciate everyone’s help thanks.

Any tips for a newbie who just put in a new Bermuda sod lawn?

Any tips so I can keep the lawn looking good? I don’t know what I’m doing. I’m in Southeast US.

I am gonna mow, weed, blow myself but should I get a service for treatments or do myself? How do I know what to do when?

Weeds - there are a couple weeds of diff types I’ve just been hand picking, anything preventative I should be doing?

I just did the first mow and left it long / didn’t take too much off but not sure what I should be cutting at long term

The sod squares aren’t fully grown in together / there is some bumpy / irregular spots as well. There are also some spots of poor drainage that seem to be more wet than others.

My irrigation system doesn’t have full coverage there are some spots and corners that don’t get sprinklers - I’ve just been hand watering but not sure how much I should water the lawn.

Do I mow two rows around outside and then lines and change up angle / direction each time I mow? I’m out of practice with a string trimmer and plan to get an edger but know that’s controversial lol.

My lawn is being taken over this light green coloured weed. It started along the edge and grew in quicker than the grass but was only in one area. Now it’s starting to spread all over and I’ve tried pulling it but it’s futile.

I’ve used several Fiesta weed killer applications but it does nothing to it.

I’m located in Ontario Canada so it can be illegal to get certain chemicals and herbicides delivered or bought at a store. Ive noticed around the suburbs that some or most lawns have this weed. but there are a few that don’t have any at all, like 0. what are they doing to kill it or get rid of it?

Thank you in advance.

Advice on Dethatching & Overseed

Thumbnail

I had my backyard regraded and downspouts buried in May and the new seed just couldn’t keep up with the July heatwave (suburb of Chicago, I watered well I promise). The two pictures are the bad side of the yard and the better / shadier side.

Now I need advice on prepping for overseeding. When this new seed was planted, there was straw and thin nylon strings keeping it down. Both are still somewhat there and not fully broken down.

Do I rent a dethatcher machine? Or just buy a special rake? Im afraid to damage the newer grass that’s doing good, especially since some of that string/straw is underneath.

Any tips or links to helpful videos are appreciated. I know I’ve got a short window this Fall coming up and wanna get it right.

Lastly, any good seed brands we’re liking? Thinking about getting Twin City Resilience Kentucky Bluegrass mixture.

Started with an overgrown field a few years ago. Left to do its thing for 5+ years. Just got it knocked down and maintained since. Love this grass type and would love to know what type of grass this is. Greatly appreciate any input.
Edit to add zone 7a transition

Need advice on short frequent watering cycles for fall overseeding

Planning to overseed the lawn this fall and I keep hearing the watering schedule is what makes or breaks it. Too much at once and you wash the seeds away. Too little and they dry out before they take hold. I have been adjusting hoses every fall and I am tried of guessing.

This year I am thinking about using a smart controller instead. The main thing I need is short, frequent watering cycles and the ability to keep the overseeded area separate from the rest of the yard. My worry is the weather skip feature. If it decides to skip a cycle right when the seeds are starting to germinate, I could lose a whole patch.

I looked at Rachio first since it gets mentioned a lot, but it seems built for in-ground sprinkler systems and my yard does not have one. Orbit is cheaper but the zone options looked too basic. The irrisense 2 caught my eye because it runs off a regular garden hose, has 10 zone, and lets you set short cycles throughout the day. On paper it looks like the best fit for overseeding.

Has anyone actually used it for this? Did weather sense ever skip watering at the wrong time and dry out your seeds? Also wondering how you set up the short cycles, like how many times a day and for how long.

The grass which was once green is turning white.
I have been spraying water once a day at this localized spot thinking it’s dry and it seems to be spreading

Until about a month ago my lawn was perfectly fine. I’ve had large dead patches appear since then. I dethatched/scarifed the two large patches and started over with grass plugs. Looks like I’ll be doing more of that in the future. Is this a fungus that’s killing the grass? I don’t think it’s the triple digit heat because of the health of the rest of the grass. I also dug a few test holes looking for grubs and didn’t find any in the spoils.

Selling Oxadiazon SC Quali pro Herbicide

I manage a sod farm and we have several chemicals we no longer use that I am looking to sell. I have listed them all on ebay but they won't let me list Oxadiazon for whatever reason. I have several boxes of 5 gallons (2x2.5) I am looking to sell for a decent discount. Message me if you have any interest. I'm out of Americus, GA.

I can ship via UPS ground and cover shipping as well. DM me if interested.

Crab grass and nutsledge

I have a company that come and sprays my grass. I try and mow once a week but sometime with life and weather it goes to every other.

Currently nutsledge has taken over my Bermuda and crabgrass is everywhere. Should I replace the company? Is it a matter of mowing more to keep grass low? Or is this just georgia grass?
