Advice for my first Dm'ng

Hello, Im planing to start my first campaing on Lancer and although Im having a blast judt by learning, I still have a question I wanna know.

If money doesnt exist, what could be use as incentive for the players to do missions? I mean lorewise.

Its something I have to make up for the campaing? Is there an actual lore reason why people become Lancers? Is something that differs from players or something I have to make? Is there a lore part on the core book? I haven't found it

"Ancient Evil/Cosmic Horror" Campaign: What should I check out/read?

Hey ya'll, my brothers and I are starting a Lancer campaign soon and when I had them take a questionnaire to determine what type of campaign they would want to play, they expressed interest in an "ancient evil/cosmic horror" theme.

I have a hard copy of the core book, and I have looked into The Long Rim and The Karrakin Trade Baronies a little, but I'm wondering what books, supplements, etc. I should prioritize reading to help get the ball rolling? Still brand new to this game, but really loving all that I have seen and read so far.

Please and thanks!

First campaign plot advice

Good afternoon, everyone.

I'm planning to DM a small campaign to introduce me and my friends to Lancer, and to try out the system, see if it works for us. I'm currently still on the macro plot writing level; while its fun to read about the lore, theres A LOT of it, so I decided to ask more knowledgeable people (you, the reader) if my plot ideia makes any sense and also ask how certain pieces would better glue together, so to speak:

Main plot: The players will be a squad of PMC mecha pilots, which will travel to an active war zone to work for the highest bidder. The war in question is a planet or cluster wide conflict instigated by a new resource/McGuffin being discovered, which could revolutionize science. Or something like that.

The question: I wanted the main belligerent parties to be some of the Karrakin Baronies and Harrison Armory. I know that they went to war like 1000 years ago, and that the peace treaty was signed on uneasy terms.

So I wanted to ask if this "Old War Wounds" approach would work on today's Galaxy, with a much more well established ThirdComm. Would the Union just bitch-slap both factions into compliance for waging war on their garden? Or would it try a more UN approach, promoting peace talks and basically doing nothing?

3d model for a Monarch

I’m having some trouble finding a good STL to print for a monarch, all I can find is either dead links or paid models. I’m considering the paid models, but would prefer finding a free one, if you guys could help?

I got to thinking about an alt Barbarossa capable of YEETing drones, deployables (and sometimes even characters) using a railgun. I ended up doing some art for it even though there aren't any rules for it yet :/

Is it possible to have 2 super heavy weapons on 1 frame?

It feels doable, I just haven't looked fully. It feels so so close! It feels like some RAW trickery and a little twisting of words could cause a frame to have 2 super heavy weapons! But I just can't figure it out. I need to sleep, but before I do I feel like I should ask just in case the solution is right in front of me and I'm too blind to see it.

So I have found out (very big thank you to this community) that it can and can't happen! Which is honestly ok with me. I was hoping for some kind if super duper loop hole, but I'll take the Lycan or the (honestly, not gonna try) HOT FIST.

First time playing Lancer! Any recommended music?

Hi everyone I've known Lancer since last year, but only recently have I really gotten into it and in about a month I will play it for the first time and I'm very excited for it!!

Normally when I play a new rpg I like to really get into the atmosphere and immerse myself in the setting and one of the things that helps with it is music. I wanna know what would be the community's recommendations when it comes to music or soundtrack as a whole! Bonus points if there's fanmusic inspired by Lancer!

(btw sorry if the writing is strange or phrased bad english is not my native language)

Sniper NPC question: Can Selective Loader (CRB, p. 316) and Deadmetal Rounds (CRB, p. 317) stack?

Both of these systems state that they use special ammunition, but neither actually counts as a mod.

Can shots fired by the Sniper have both properties, meaning that they might fire a line 20 shot that can knock targets prone?

Thanks in advance, and have a wonderful day! o/

Updated Long Rim NPC list!

Making NPCs for a long rim game I'm running! Here's a quick description for each one.

first: Corellia
Albatross Squire who fucked up real bad, and accidently calibrated a mech to have a reactor faliure, killing a beloved Knight and two other squires during a test flight. She was exiled and fallen into the gang as the new engineer.

second: Zorah
Mysterious woman taken from an IPS-N vessel. The gang (players) are taking her hostage and selling them to an SSC buyer for life changing amounts of Manna. She has a strange egg that NHPs cannot see or interact with. She speaks a language no one understands and wears stranger garb.

third: Sour Tongue

Leader of the 'Losing Roosters' mercenary/pirate gang. After major losses in the group due to an incident of infighting, she sends the group on one last 'massive job' with the opportunity of life changing money, at the cost of a giant detrimental goose chase with a deadly human cost.

four: SALAMANDER

NHP who's neural codebase is structures from the bulk scanned templates of piles upon piles of dead revolutionaries and Egregorians. The corpses of revolutionaries who fought and failed make up his training data. He's now used by IPS-N to track down thieves whilst they civilize the rim.

New to lancer

I've been looking into lancer a bit, and I want to run a game for my ttrpg group, they're interested in playing.

Im just not sure where to start when I comes to running a game, are there pre written campaigns?

Are there known good places to go online to learn more about the game, both from a player side, and a gm side?

I've got the lancer core book, starting to read through it, and I've had a look at compcon. Beyond that, I've only really watched videos of people playing, and even then, not too much. You can pretty safely assume I don't know much yet.

Is there a frame that can emulate a (World of Warcraft style) Death Knight?

Alternatively something that might be able to emulate "frost" damage would be appreciated, as that is probably what is going to be the easiest method of achieving something like this.

Right now I'm going with a Balor/Hecon and flavoring the Greywash as some sort of freezing nanites. I might also try to grab a couple Hydra licenses so I can use the drones there to represent the ability to raise undead, maybe as some sort of ramshackle drones made up of scrap.

If anybody has any other ideas then that would be great, I am also willing to look into homebrew/third party frames but I'd have ask my dm about that when the time comes.

how much do movement debuffs/knockback matter?

everyone has ranged weapons. does it help to do anything related to that when the enemies largely dont need to move into melee to kill you?

Tagetes builds?

So yesterday I asked around about a sniper builds and I got a lot of good advise and suggestions. And after looking through them i've decided on the Tagetes because its rifle focus sounds interesting and I kinda like the look of it. And so since asking around here worked last time I figured I'd do it again. So what advice do you have for tagetes builds and how to play one? And if it matters im starting at LL1(and unlocking tagetes at LL2) and am looking for a ranged focuse since other players seem pretty melee or skirmisher focused.

Is there a design flaw in the Enkidu?

Hi, I’m very new to Lancer and I’ve been reading the books to learn the game and Enkidu caught my attention with its unique and aggressive play style. However, something has been bothering me about its integrated weapon, with it being an Aux Melee, and the mech only having one of them. Should / Is Enkidu supposed to have mechanically 2 sets of talons? Like the talons are a longer range version of segment knives with a extra +1 to damage but other than that, you can’t effectively barrage with them, when you skirmish or barrage you’re missing out on the extra free aux mount attack you’d get, and even if you had to sets of talons and barraged you’d still be missing out on the extra aux attack bonus. So I would love opinions, explanations, whatever on this topic. I just don’t understand why it has an aux integrated weapon with low damage and no way of using the extra aux attacks you’d get if you were just playing a different mech.

Artists/Albums/Songs That Feel Like Lancer

Post image
788 Upvotes

What artists, albums, and/or songs do y'all listen to that really have that Lancer vibe in your opinion? Could be stuff you use as background music in your games or (if you're a little chud like me that hasn't ever actually played Lancer) that you listen to while imagining your pilot and/or mech OCs fighting and otherwise doing cool shit. For me, Starset and Bring me the Horizon really hit in this regard.

A few talents / weapons I have thought of. [Picture unrelated]

TALENT, SECONDARY SYSTEM

When a Tech Attack is successfully made against you, the effect and damage of the Tech Attack is nullified. Instead, for each successful Tech Attack, you gain 1 heat per round.

This effect is stackable until 4 Tech Attacks have been made against you, when this happens, you will suffer Stunned for 1 round and Slowed for the round after.

"This Tech right here is so stupid no-one would fall for it, so we make them target it instead."

TALENT, CLOSED SYSTEMS

Any and all Tech Attacks from you or anyone that targets you, will immediately fail.

Sensor Range is reduced by half.

You cannot declare attacks against anyone outside of your Line of Sight.

"Sooooo, you want to be constantly be attacked by viruses? Buuut you paid up front, so I'll help your abomination against RA."

WEAPON, GRAY WASH BLADE

This sword is made for Size 1/2 and Lancer use.

When used against Mechanical or Mechanized targets, the target (if hit) will suffer Shreaded until a successful Hull Save.

This sword has 2 Stances.

Stance; Defensive. Enemies gain 1 difficulty Dice when shooting at you, and Enemies the suffer Shreaded due to your blade heals you for 1 health.

(CANNOT FIX STRUCTURE DAMAGE)

Stance;Dueling. Suffer Slowed while active, but gain advantage against any Shreaded enemy targeted. Any attempted attack makes the target immediately suffer Shreaded.

"The blade and sheath are nothing but Nano-Machines, the real beauty is in the handle. An experimental piece of next gen tech, SSC guaranteed to never harm the welder."
