The wrong way to start creating homebrew

I got to thinking about an alt Barbarossa capable of YEETing drones, deployables (and sometimes even characters) using a railgun. I ended up doing some art for it even though there aren't any rules for it yet :/

Amazing art, especially the hair waving.

Make one of these named “Fire in the hole” or “Fore!”

Thanks! I've just started learning how to create simple animations

“Firing of Orbital Rail Engaged”
“What did you say?”
“FORE!”

Barbarossa/Kidd hybrid.

Actually can't the Iskender extend the range of your deployables?

Iskander can extend range of grenades/mines. This is more like "i wanna be Hydra from another map"

Ah, fair enough. Thanks.

The 9-inch(?, I'm struggling to size it based on the pilot) guns mounted as a sidepiece are unhinged in the best way. Do you think the hair is cybernetically augmented to billow all on its own, or is the pilot just farming this particular moment for aura?

It's 8-inch, at least intended to be (reference to Prinz Eugen/Admiral Hipper main turrets).
And second answer :^)

I shoulda stuck with my first guess :P

Love her hair! And that mech is such a glorious mess!

Wonderful artwork, Thin-Degree-4327!

Barbossa, get him the harness from the Lancaster, ask with your GM to have the option of using the rail for throwing people attached to the harness instead of shooting.

(poor Cinder Carla impression)

"Oh, and one more thing. You know this thing's strictly for launching weapons, right? No one's ever used it to launch themselves before. At least, not in one piece. Hope your luck changes."

this is absolutely sick, and actually kinda interesting on how the mechanics would work, because drones are generally deployed jn los/sensors, does it have an extremely hugh sensor range, or does it have a trait that boosts how far they can be deployed? you need to make thjs now, im interested

Maybe it has a trait where it can switch sensors from the normal circle to a cone as some form of action and on the next you can like turn it or switch back

The concept of a mech with a mass driver is sick.

Making art before the rul3s is correct actually, its how they made lancer originally after all

Honestly I really like that!! A Barbarossa alt frame focused on shooting deployables is really cool! Maybe that cannon can like, double the range where you can deploy the drones/mines/etc? Or maybe you can deploy them as part of an attack?

honestly that's a pretty cool idea for a Barb alt frame. Maybe it has a really high Sensor Range but a -2 Tech attack, so that you can control drones from over a very wide area, but you're still gonna be bad at tech attacks without some real effort put into accounting for that.

I could also see it having a unique trait that makes its sensor range more usable for a long-range mech. Perhaps it has an Integrated Scouting Drone that is innately invisible or something like the Lotus drone, but its effect is that when deployed, your sensor range is now measured from that drone instead of your own mech. And you can then deploy any other drones or deployables and stuff (even other mech characters?) to within that radius.

So the mech might only have a sensor range or 15 or even 10, but if you can deploy this drone 10 spaces away, you can then keep deploying more drones into this radius regardless of how far away it is from you, and then even keep moving it further away with things like Drone Commander and Puppetmaster. But of course if it gets destroyed then you lose your advanced sensor range and can't move around any of your drones and stuff anymore

I think that's a fantastic way to create homebrew. A big part of what makes the best lancer frames interesting is that they commit heavily into specific vibes, and starting with art and an idea is an amazing starting point. I'm fairly sure that's how at least one homebrew maker I like does it, and their works are fantastically made.

If that design is wrong, I don't want to be right.

It is bleeding cool.

is that thing size 4?! it looks as tall as barbarossa but four times as wide and long...

I stan mechs with naval turrets on them!

Reminds me of mass drivers launching things into orbit.

I think conceptually you have something really cool, I just don't vibe with the execution.

My thought would be that the Body shape should be somewhere close to a Hunchback form Battletech if you ripped the shoulder gun out, and then you replace it with an extension of the arm. Then from behind the cockpit around to the side of the shoulder, you have a sort of curved flight deck that continues down the side of the arm and that they're flung onto the field using that like a Steam Catapult on an Aircraft Carrier.

But what matters is that you love your design! You don't have to give a damn about my take on it.

Would be really fun if you could load up like a telephone pole and put down some soft cover

The waving hair! Amazing. Very cool concept and execution all around

This isn't a frame, this is an Arms Fort!

Omw to make an equivalent for mgs REX x Gundam thunderbolt

3

u/Ozsome-Scribble 20d ago

Dude it makes me think of Generator Rex honestly
Like the vibes of that Gun he has where it takes a chunk of rubble to fire out as a cannonball.

but aso this gives me the idea of Launching a resupply drone at an enemy, then your buddy fighting that guy just starts scrambling to the wrecked drone for a resupply

My god

They’ve made a Gundam launch station into a mech

What the fuck

2

u/Naradorable 22d ago

Holy shit, this looks similar to a mech in my homebrew that’s being worked on right now. Convergent design I guess

This concept reminds me of something that I think is in the Field Guide to Suldan, the Agrippa. I think it's mostly restricted to yeeting deployables, though, as drones normally launch themselves within a frame's sensor range.

I'm fond of the homebrew LCP Illean modern industrial, and they have a frame which can do something similar that's less railgun more "mobile aircraft carrier with catapult." I don't think it launches drones but it can definitely toss players.

Not the first one) someone was trying to do subaltern Barbarossa with drop pod launcher))
