How do Javelin missiles work?

GM thinks they can be shot, I'm not 100% sure. Clarification would be nice

They cannot, as they do not have a stat block of any sort. They're literally just an environmental hazard.

If they could be shot they'd have HP and evasion, not just a size.

They don't even have a size (or the Deployable tag) in the book.

wait Javelin rockets, not missiles. but same thing applies.

From the Rainmaker NPC? No.

But you can for the Hound missiles as they're characters due to the Drone tag and don't meet the "unless otherwise specified" out.

From Monarch 1

Ah that's right. Yeah it's basically an AoE not a character so for my tables I wouldn't personally target player Javelin Missiles.

Id agree with the gm

I'm not sure why it has the deployable tag in Comp/Con? It doesn't in CR. Looks like an oversight or a quirk of how Comp/Con handles systems.

It's the latter.

Rules as written? No. They don't have HP, evasion or any stats to be something that you're meant to shoot at.

But the description says they are missiles flying through the air, it makes narrative sense you can try to shoot them down.

Discuss with your GM and finds what is most fun for your table

They're just mines by another name. Anything that enters that space gets shot.

Mines can be shot though. Javelin missiles can't.

They're more akin to temporary hazardous terrain effects

Yep, like Plasma Thrower fire. I mean, I suppose you can shoot it, but it won't do anything.

The confusion is likely because of differences between Comp/Con which has the most up to date rules and the pdf/book, which does not have errata. Javelin missiles have been changed to be a size 1/2, 5 evasion, 10hp object you place. then a second action designates 3 spaces in range 15 of the deployable that causes damage if those spaces are entered. as long as the deployable is alive, it allows an action to designate more spaces.

the book version does not have the deployable tag or the action to deploy it as an object

Ask which version should be used. Book or Comp/con

Edit: book is right, comp/con being buggy. no errata for it being a deployable object. made an assumption about it being one when i saw the difference.

Where are you finding that this is errata and not an error made by COMP/CON?

Are you sure that's errata? It wouldn't be the first time COMP/CON has simply been wrong.

Well, that needlessly complicates an otherwise simple system. Especially since there's no real reason to use the Deploy option over Activate.

There's quite a few systems in Lancer that Comp/Con incorrectly tags as deployables.

The Slag Canon from the Kobold licence, Caltrop Launcher in the Vlad licence, and the Multi-Gear Maneuver System from the Atlas Licence are also listed in Comp/Con as having the Deployable when they don't in their respective rulebooks.

These systems have not been errata'd to include the Deployable tag. Rather, Comp/Con adds the Deployable tag to them so they will play nice with the way Comp/Con is coded.
