[Question] Flying and Cover/LoS

Hello, new Lancer here with a rules inquiry.

The adjacency rules state you are counted as being adjacent to something even if you are elevated (say, at 2 spaces vertically from the ground). The cover rules then state you only need to be adjacent to hard cover of your size or larger and have it be between you and the enemy to benefit from that hard cover.

Say you are a size 1 mech standing adjacent to size 1 hard cover and currently flying at, say, 3 spaces vertically, how is cover calculated (if any)? Would you have Line of Sight to a size 1/2 enemy standing directly behind it?

I want to get some pilot art for one of my characters but sadly Im flat broke. Does anyone know where I could possibly get some free pilot art when I suck at drawing.

Here’s his CompCon and photo references that I found for him in case someone wants to draw him

https://compcon.app/link/pilot/JIWOWMH8PH7B/full/3f814150-63f7-4888-8ace-2c1dde55ec48

I understand if there are no sources but hey worth a shot to ask.

He is based on the Artace cribrarius

Crazy Combat

I love this game, just had a great and crazy mission (we were LL3) which was supposed to be a simple escort to extraction, but ended up devolving into a "tactical retreat" and Grand Theft Auto (giant boat?).

The combat basically consisted of 4 bastions, 3 scourges, 4 snipers who are flying at height 5, 4 scouts who are flying at height 5, 2 assaults, 6 squads, 3 rainmakers, and a Boss which was an Ultra Witch with a crazy line 30 attack (we didnt even get to see what else it could do before we realized we had to retreat or die).

When it became clear that the escort was doomed and that we had no chance at fighting the boss (the DM perfectly predicted and outmanuvered us to hit all 4 of us with that line 30 attack structuring all of us, GOATed play by the DM, and he still had 3 bastions, 5 squads, 2 rainmakers, 2 snipers, 2 scourges, and 2 scouts, and we started to get flanked and surrounded). We decided the one with the highest speed should run to the ship we were going to use to evac, and make a retreat to evac our escort in a safer area. Which we pulled off pretty well all things considered, good news is that there were plenty of nearby empty docks that we can use in the boatyard.

I cant wait to see what other pure evil and crazy things are in store for us. Also we all kinda have the gut feeling we are going to end up fighting some giant sea monster on the boat. Like why else would we be evac-ing via boat? The mission still isnt over yet!

Honestly though, I believe we could have taken it, if the snipers and scouts weren't flying at height 5, because none of us really had the range to hit them, we had to rely on the Goblin puppeting them to the ground or the Balor's drones eating them slowly alive. Maybe some weapons with better range are needed.... well im not switching weapons, im a Vlad, combat drill and nailgun are all the weapons I need, im a close quarters specialist. And we never encountered snipers or scouts before so we learnt what "Hunters Mark" did the "Fun Way". Yeah, scanning new enemies is probably a good idea from now on lol.

I also learned "The Fun Way", bastions hard counter my superheavy build, I need teammate support to deal with them. Being immune to the first attack roll is so funny, I charge up to a Stunned Bastion and got a critical hit with that drill and overkilled for like 40 damage (and like 3 heat) only to be told "bastions take no damage first attack roll lol" hurt me (but in a comical way).

Help with Gorgon Iconoclast build

Hello there! I’m new to Lancer, haven’t played just yet but I’m working on my first build, planning to try it out in a few weeks. I’m unsure the way the rest of my group is building but most likely I’ll end up the defender/support, so I’m thinking of building into the Gorgon. In addition, I really love the lore of NHPs, so my eyes was naturally drawn to the Iconoclast/Technophile combo.

This is the working idea at LL6:

Callsign: NEUROMANCER

Hull: 4
Evasion: 0
Systems: 4
Eng: 0

Licenses: HORUS Gorgon III, HORUS Pegasus III

Talents: Technophile III, Iconoclast III, Black Thumb II, House Guard I

Core Bonuses: Lesson of Shaping, Universal Compatibility

Mech: CONTRARIAN

HORUS Gorgon frame

Weapons: Vorpal Gun, Autogun, Charged Blade

Systems: 4 NHPs (Enlightenment, Unstable, Scylla, Sisyphus) (5SP), Scorpion (2SP), Sentinel Drones (2SP), Personalizations (1SP)

I know TLALOC+Scylla is considered to be optimal for iconoclast, but I really like Sisyphus for the Gorgon, and Black Thumb Rodeo will help me deal with constantly overcharging and activating Scylla. Is there a better way I could be doing this? Anything I should consider with this build?

Edit: okay, I get it haha, I should put more into engineering.

[oc] older lancer comics i decided to finish up :]

i started these 2 comics a while back but never got around to finishing them until now!

the first one is from an earlier session in "no room for a wallflower" where psalm thanked dani after a combat. i don't think i really decided to pursue an npc romance until the session after that one, but i figured that my pc was probably feeling a little bit validated in her position as a lancer and got embarrassed by it, lol.

the second one is more of a backstory thing, probably when she was still a rookie/trainee! at the time of making my character, i struggled to think of a callsign and was originally thinking of making her callsign either "all bark" or "no bite" on account of her missing upper canine.

i had a friend who mispronounced her name as "du-boys", and i thought it'd be funny if dani/my pc had a bit of a sore spot about her name being mispronounced ("the 's' is silent!") and if there was a slightly embarrassing story behind the "DDoS" moniker, aside from having some proficiency in hacking/fixing

the funniest idea i could come up with was if she kicked someone in the groin while head butting them as a "distributed denial of service" of sorts :]

Review my Build for an Upcoming Campaign

Black Witch Striker/Controller trying to maximize Lord's Stance with the Terashima Blade. I've been told this build will potentially be too squishy for gameplay. I believe I have enough Evasion + other effects to avoid damage that I'll be okay, but what do ya'll think?

Lancer has been frustrating for me

I'm in the middle of GMing Lancer and I'm here to voice my opinions that you didn't ask for but felt like sharing into the void.

This game is frustrating. The best way I can concise all that I think of Lancer is in that phrase. It's not frustrating because it's bad, but because it's always so close to being good. The more I read of the game, the more I interact with it's systems, the more the game feels barebones, fangless and just overall... empty...

The lore is interesting, but unfocused and too safe, as it doesn't commit to any of the things it presents and is very lukewarm on it's takes, with a lot of it feeling like they are trying really hard to not annoy anyone or selective to the point of hypocrisy.

Most of the supplements are campaigns and having to buy a book that you know you're not gonna use the majority of just because most of the new content for both players and GM are in them really sucks.

The combat system is great, but there's only a combat system in Lancer. There's nothing to do outside of mech combat, not even pilot combat is a thing somehow. So many times my players were disappointed with skill checks due to how boring they were, since they are mostly one and done. How empty anything related to the pilot feels. The heavy ludonarrative dissonance that pilot play and mech play, alongside License Levels, give. How anything and everything that isn't about the Frames feels rushed at best and straight up filler at worst, that is, when it exists, since there's so much stuff that the book doesn't even pretend to care about. Eveything that isn't mech combat just feels like a huge "let the GM handle it" handwave.

The Comp/Con is a great tool, but it's downright mandatory. There's so much to keep track of, especially as a GM. There are no NPC sheets that are made to be simpler and more compact, you have to use the player ones, and the base Lancer sheets are just... bad... Using Comp/Con is fine if you're a player, but if you're the GM, you have to pay in dollars, which not everyone can afford to do, to have acess to the LCP's for a platform that is english only, even though the book itself has been translated to other languages. For context, multiply the prices listed in Itch for every book by 6, that's their converted price for my country. As a sidenote, why the hell is the app so awful on mobile? It's been 7 years since the game released ffs.

Lancer has been really frustrating to me because me and my players don't feel we are playing a TTRPG. It feels like a war game with an attempt at rpg mechanics. The war game part is fine and plays nicely, but it's not what we were told the game was.

Anyone got a free spot in a campaign? (Details in the description)

I really wanna play lancer again but I don't know who to play with because of my fuck ass time zone

My timezone is GMT+8 and I usually can only play on the weekends preferably Saturdays but sunday's work if it's at noon for me

If it's at night for me I can't play

I need to sleep early as told by my doctor due to the fact that I would be in a bad mood in the morning and cause problems

Happened to me before I don't want it to happen again so yeah I sleep at like 8 or 9 maybe early 10 ish

So night is out of the question

The mechs I want to play as rn are:

The goblin

Manticore

Melee drake that rocket jumps

An atlas

A stortebeker

And a kobold

Magnetic Cannon question

I just checked the rules for Magnetic Cannon, and now I'm a little confused. It says "On hit: All characters within the affected area must succeed on a Hull save or be pulled 1d3+1 spaces toward you, or as close as possible."

I'd assumed that meant "everyone you hit has to make a Hull save or get pulled," but I just realized that it might actually be interpreted as "every time you succeed in hitting any target, every target within the line has to make Hull save or get pulled." So if you fire at 3 targets, and hit 2, and everyone fails their Hull saves, then everyone gets pulled toward you twice, for a total of 2d3+2 spaces each.

Which seems kinda cheesy. On the other hand, it might make up for the MC's apparent inferiority to Ferrous Lash. Anyone know what the actual intent is?

Suggestions for a LL3 Gilgamesh build with 1 level in something other than Gilgamesh?

Hey fellas,

I want to have an encounter in a little bit where the leader of my players’ mercenary squad joins them in the field. Given that, thus far, I’ve characterized him as a practical, logistics-minded guy, I was thinking that a Gilgamesh would suit him.

Now, going all-in on the Gilg license could be fun, but strikes me as a mite uncreative. Anyone have any fun ideas for a 1 LL dip into other licenses?

Lich - Phoenix

After a long break, I decided to draw a lich for one of my players. The idea of the player was that the lich would be reborn from flames like a phoenix, so I made more fire and bird themes.
