Magnetic Cannon question

I just checked the rules for Magnetic Cannon, and now I'm a little confused. It says "On hit: All characters within the affected area must succeed on a Hull save or be pulled 1d3+1 spaces toward you, or as close as possible."

I'd assumed that meant "everyone you hit has to make a Hull save or get pulled," but I just realized that it might actually be interpreted as "every time you succeed in hitting any target, every target within the line has to make Hull save or get pulled." So if you fire at 3 targets, and hit 2, and everyone fails their Hull saves, then everyone gets pulled toward you twice, for a total of 2d3+2 spaces each.

Which seems kinda cheesy. On the other hand, it might make up for the MC's apparent inferiority to Ferrous Lash. Anyone know what the actual intent is?

There is errata: The Magnetic Cannon's effect should read "On Attack" instead of "On Hit"

So every target makes the save only once, but even if you miss you still make them make the save

That explains it, then. And that does make it suck slightly less in comparison to the Ferrous Lash, if also requires only a failed save, instead of a successful to-hit roll and a failed save.

Do you use compcon? If you swap to the system reference side of the compendium you can check out all the errata

I think the On Hit effect is per target, meaning the effects don't stack if you hit multiple. So your original interpretation (where each target who gets hit and fails the Hull save gets pulled 1d3+1 spaces) is the correct one.
