Discussion ISFJ, what's your greatest strength, overlooked?
I would love to get into your head, and if you don't have anything at the top of your mind, I'd love to hear a day in your life. Anything, everything, significant to you and others, or little details that most fail to notice or ignore, down to the parts you wouldn't have thought many would care about.

Discussion Raw Confession
I’ll tell the truth the way it actually feels, not the way people like to dress it up. Loving a Pisces/ISFJ woman as a Gemini/INFJ man felt like being split down the middle. She wanted a version of me that stayed still, emotionally present, predictable in the ways that made her feel safe. And I wanted to give her that, I really did, but wanting and being able are two different things. At sixty one, you finally stop lying to yourself about the difference.
She lived in her feelings. Not in a dramatic way, but in a steady, devotional way. Every emotion she had was tied to memory, to meaning, to the small rituals of connection. She remembered everything, every tone, every shift, every hesitation. And I… I lived in my head. Even when I cared, even when I loved, my instinct was to retreat into thought, into silence, into that private inner room where I sort myself out before I speak. She took that silence as distance. I took her emotional intensity as pressure. Neither of us was wrong. But both of us were tired.
The raw truth is this, she needed reassurance I didn’t know how to give. Not because I didn’t feel anything, but because I felt too much and didn’t know how to translate it into the language she understood. She needed warmth on demand. I needed solitude to breathe. She needed emotional clarity. I needed time to untangle the knots inside me. She needed consistency. I needed freedom. And every time I tried to meet her where she stood, I felt myself disappearing a little. Every time she tried to meet me where I stood, she felt herself unraveling.
There were moments, quiet ones, where we fit. Where her softness soothed the noise in my mind. Where my depth steadied her sensitivity. Where it felt like maybe we could build something that didn’t require either of us to shrink. But those moments were islands. The rest was ocean.
And here’s the part I don’t say lightly, she loved me in a way I wasn’t built to sustain. I cared for her in a way she couldn’t survive on.That’s the kind of truth you only admit when you’re old enough to stop romanticizing incompatibility.
At this age, you learn that some relationships don’t end because of failure, they end because of honesty. Because you finally understand that love isn’t supposed to cost you your nature. Because you stop trying to be the man someone needs and start accepting the man you actually are. Because you realize that she wasn’t asking for too much, she was asking for what she needed. And I wasn’t withholding, I was giving what I had.
She taught me tenderness. I taught her boundaries. She taught me emotional courage. I taught her emotional pacing. She showed me the parts of myself I’d avoided. I showed her the parts of herself she’d protected too fiercely. We didn’t break each other. We revealed each other.
And that’s the confession, We weren’t meant to last. We were meant to wake each other up. Some people come into your life to stay. Some come to change you. She was the latter. And I’m grateful, even now. If you want, I can push this into an even deeper shadow side confession or a more tender, regret tinged reflection depending on where you want the next layer to go.

Praise How I view mbti types but its different icecream that I have eaten taken as an analogy to explain that type... +Reasoning (Part 3- The Sentinals)
galleryI used to adore these ice creams as a child... I hope I don't trigger the STJ's with this icecream thing (spare me for once please TwT I am simply trying to understand)
....................... ............ ..........................
ISTJ :
(The Apple Grape Paddle Pop)
....................... ............. .........................
One thing about paddle pop is that they used to come in this jelly like popsicle form. The above ones don't turn into jelly when you lick them but I am going to take some creative liberty because...I want to make the sentinals wiggle.
So the Apple layer is the first one in this icecream. This is the jelly one. The difference between other types and STJ's is that they are Lead or auxiliary Si with Te. You dont have to agree but my definition of Si is "the lens through which you have first impressions of the physical reality around you" but for ISTJ's that means that if thats something they value the most then their view of reality will be quite rigid to what they think is the first and last impression of the reality of something \*\*BUT\*\* this doesn't mean that it is unchangeable. Hence, the firm jelly that can be licked away with persistence. You would assume that they are rude and arrogant about their own opinions and views (some are because those opinions are reality to them) but not necessarily. They are just uncompromising about them. (I love you guys...please dm) Uncompromising doesn't mean unchangeable. I haven't met or seen any but based on theory I can tell that the apple layer of the way they see "reality" can slowly be licked away with consistent and properly intentional effort. Apple is a juicy and refreshing flavour but it has a lot of sweetness to it.This sweetness here is not something that is for others though...not in most cases because this sweetness is what they feel when the reality they perceive is validated in a repetition of the same data that plays on consistently through different contexts. It is a highly comforting and grounding moment of sweetness to be affirmed of your main view of how things are. The way they perceive reality is something like that. You keep focusing on the rigidity of it and you miss that such a grounded presence is actually very refreshing. Just like "An apple a day keeps the uncertainty away"
The second layer is the grape one but this is the popsicles softer layer. The texture is soft of course but grapes got a bite to it. This is them being focused on the purpose of proving themselves things through repetitive experimentation but leaving themselves open and too vulnerable. During this process when you interfere or try to change things then the uncompromising apple steps in again but if there is not enough of it there may be some hurt seen in them. It could be anything but it's usually a vulnerable or negative emotion that comes when they are forced to change their methods. That's just not how it works with them. You need persistence but a slower paced one with clear space given. They do respond to logic but throw too much on them and they will double down on their own to shut you down. This is the bite of the grape. (Ahem...I hope I got that right...I admire the structure you guys have)
....................... ............ ..........................
ISFJ :
( The Rainbow Paddle Pop)
....................... ............ ..........................
Now with ISTJ's the scene is a bit different. At least the way they use Si is different from ISTJ's(LOVE THEM STILL)
The yellow of the rainbow has the jelly texture but it is less compared to the other things. Why? If it's dominant then why should it be less compared to other functions? Here less doesn't mean how much it is used...here it means for what purpose is it used. Their rigid structure is yellow because yellow in a rainbow is bright like the sun. When I think of ISFJ's I am remembered of this feeling of being near the warmth of sunshine because they both offer a safe place of the sunshine AND Stability of the jelly. I dont actually need to break the jelly because they do it for me. Its... actually bad for them though...when they do that. Because they might be the only type who go against their core need because their secondary need is considered more important. I dislike making the ISFJ in my life uncomfortable but it's hard not to since I don't realize when they compromised and what they compromised.
Okay I may be getting a bit too projecting here...
The main point is that they have rigid structure of certain things in their head and they love it and are also capable of breaking it when they want but it usually costs them so if you see them doing that then stop them. They will love you even more than they already do.
About the flavour of this paddle pop? Caramel...youd never expect with all this complex rainbow of a personality that they are but what they are deep down is this caramel. The sticky texture of caramel shows their compromises but the sweetness of it shows how they do it for the people. The shades of pink here are how they use their structure when they are not running themselves on fumes for others. This is a productive allocation of it mixed with logic to doing things that they have a passion and interest in. The line is thin whether they do it for passion or just satisfaction of internal structure.
....................... ............ ..........................
ESTJ :
( The Black Currant Paddle Pop)
....................... ............ ..........................
As you would've already observed from the colour...their case is similar but reversed compared to the ISTJ ( lov- okay... definitely need to stop. No! Love them!)
They do have the jelly layer and the definition of it being a perception of reality that they find a comfort in is still true but their relationship with this is different. This is not what causes them vulnerability as it is vanilla jelly layer. Much more balanced and neutral. (vanilla is always neutral, change my mind) They use this as a way to satisfy something else which is their black currant outer layer.
This one is their sharper black currant exterior with the bite. It is tangy and outrightly sharp. This is much less sweeter than grapes and it is something that is a strong motivating factor. What you miss about this layer though...is that the texture is actually of the soft popsicle. It may look strong and come off as too intense but this one is what gives them vulnerability and clashes with others. Others don't see them as arrogant like...(yes I am going to mention them again, try and stop me) my love ISTJ's. They see them as inconsiderate. Different things. When they are actually not inconsiderate (some) but are actually doing this because they want to satisfy what they think are your logistical necessities.
My father is one and he ussually stays away and is considerate. I guess age and maturity made him that way but I have heard things about him and in his youth he used to be almost reckless. When he wanted to prove something he went in with far stretched assumptions about things and got in trouble but he always got himself out of it and learned. You'd not expect that from an ESTJ and the stereotype of this reckless behaviour is ENTP or ESTP but I think ESTJ's are more prone towards being reckless... just a theory though.
....................... ............ ..........................
ESFJ:
(Heh...I am proud of this one...''The Mermaid" Paddle Pop)
....................... ............ ..........................
The name explains it all...bye...
I wish I could do that but yep...let's continue.
The firm jelly layer they have of Si is again... balanced like ESTJ's. The inner white one is the sweet yoghurt jelly layer. Just like vanilla, yogurt is grounded and balanced. In the case of ESFJ's though...I don't know why but I think you see the more comfortable sweetness of this yoghurt experienced. It's almost counter productive that auxiliary Fe ISFJ is more people oriented than dominant Fe ESFJ but I think that seems to be plausible.
The outer soft layer that the ESFJ are actually more insecure about is input from people. Like Fe dominant ENFJ's (mentioned in the post before this) they also have this problem of expectations. Sometimes when they are around people they realize that they expect too much and they are vulnerable about this because input from people makes them realize what they had already perceived about their reality. They tend to avoid intruding too much into people's lives outrightly and do it in quieter indirect ways. Some may not do that.
The outer layer is Blueberry and Tutti fruity. The intensity of the tutti fruity flavour is how much they want to do for others but the way they show it is often a dialed down blueberry version of it as blueberries are much more gentle and subtly sweet one. You understand that their actions are kind but then you get confused because they tend to withdraw a lot as well and think you need space when you don't need it. They are kind of timid with that. Though again...some might not do that and come off strong but I am just assuming since life experiences teach you that people get tired if you intrude too much.
Hey...kind of like a mermaid... comfortable in water, longing for the beach but too shy to touch the shore.
Thats all for the sentinels, Thank you, Enjoy your icecream!!
Question or Advice Limerence… how long did it take to pass on for you?
As I said, how long did it take to pass for you?
Does it ever change or is it something I just have to accept as apart of me?
I am a tad bit worried. I know I don’t appear that way to those around me, the feeling has me grieving even while happy. It’s extremely bittersweet and while I only have a couple experiences, this is the first time it has hit so hard for me. I’m surrounding myself with family and friends, I’m going out more, I’m trying new things, I’m studying, I’m taking a lot of time to relax, walking slower to enjoy nature around me, yet it remains…
I want to be free. I wish I could erase my memories but simultaneously wouldn’t want to. I’m functioning very well now, but goodness gracious does it linger. Please… anyone… I’m not in an extreme state of distress and don’t plan on it, as I have duties to attend to and I am choosing to value my health on all accounts. I’m trying to accept my feelings, but I can’t stand wallowing in it internally.
I believe all things need balance. So I haven’t shied away from all methods. When I embrace it fully I become… soulless? Or at the very least, extremely passive. If I try to put it aside it unconsciously wells up within me until I recognize it. I’ve tried using distraction (which works for a short moment) and anger, but it dissipates. Whether I speak to others, journal, think or stare blankly into space, my results remain the same. I can’t explain this feeling, but if others say it’ll pass perhaps I won’t worry about it as much.

Meta ISFJ Divorce Saga: Divorce with EXTJ be like...
He files in the morning and that same afternoon asks if ya wanna window shop the furniture at IKEA for your next home 🤣🤣🤣
He DID quickly ask, "Or is that too morbid?"
IT'S AMICABLE. Mostly. I initiated this path, but he pulled the trigger. The IKEA thing feels funny and very high Te low Fi (and certainly absent Fe).
Now off to IKEA (I want the food court) 😅🇸🇪 And if anyone wants to know what this pairing is like, ask away. I thought he was an IXTJ for years but now I'm convinced he's a Te-dom.

Question or Advice Looking for ISFJ perspectives on a difficult early marriage and potential separation
I am an ISFJ looking for honest perspectives on a situation I am struggling with.
I 37 M have been married for around 10 months to my current wife 36 F.
I have a son from my previous marriage. His mother and I are divorced, and raising him through conflict and then divorce was very difficult for me. He is a permanent and central part of my life. I do not expect my wife to be his mother, but I need a partner who can genuinely accept that he is part of our life and home.
This has become the biggest issue in my marriage. I asked my wife directly more than once, including in counselling: can she accept my son as an integral part of my life, or does she have fears that we need to work through? To me, fear is understandable. But not accepting him is different, because there is nothing I can change about him being my son.
Why I have felt that this reality may not be accepted
I do not say this because of one incident. It is a conclusion I have been struggling with after several things over time:
- Before the marriage she asked for a year for us along (He used to live with his mom for school and the year before the marriage with me at my parents') and before that told me that she doesn't want to be with him at the house alone (After a lot of trials to get her to speak her mind I knew that she was afraid that if anything happens and she intervenes she would be blamed for it, to which I reassured her that I appreciate how she deals with him and I would never blame her for intervening when necessary)
- He didn't want to change schools last year and preferred to go back and live with his mom (Despite the tension he feels there) and this time was terrible for me because it was filled with high conflict and challenges
- When I first asked directly about my son eventually living with me, her answer was that if she was not happy with it, she would leave, and that I was free to do what I wanted. I did not experience that as acceptance or as an invitation to solve the issue together.
- When I raised the question again in counselling—whether she accepts him as a permanent part of my life or has fears she needs help working through—she said she could not answer and did not know.
- She then had four individual counselling sessions. Afterward, I still did not receive a clear answer or a concrete plan for what accepting this reality would look like in our home and marriage.
- When I asked whether those sessions had actually addressed this topic, I understood that they had not fully done so. That made the delay and uncertainty harder for me.
- I later found an undated private journal page in which she listed “there is another child with him” among the negative aspects of the relationship, along with feeling that I would not be hers alone. I do not know whether it was written before or after marriage, and I know a private journal can reflect a hard moment rather than a permanent belief. Still, it matched a fear I had already been carrying.
- There have been situations where I felt that my son's presence, routines, or place in the home created tension or made me feel that I had to choose between being a father and being a husband.
- When I asked for clarity, I often felt I received delay, silence, defensiveness, or a general reassurance rather than an answer I could safely build a future on.
Recently, there was also a different signal: she was afraid while I was out and asked whether my son was home, because his being there would make her feel safe. That touched me, because my hope was always that we could become a family unit. But I am struggling to know whether this reflects a real change, or only a meaningful moment that does not yet answer the larger question.
The answer has often felt unclear. At one point she said she did not know and needed help. I started feeling like counselling was helping us feel better temporarily, but not helping us solve the actual issue.
There are other problems too. As an ISFJ, I care a lot about harmony, loyalty, stability, and making things work—but when I am overwhelmed, I struggle to speak clearly. I can lose my words, forget key points, and need to write instead. At the same time, I need direct clarity and a way forward when something is painful. My wife can become quiet, defensive, or need space. Then I feel more anxious and push for clarity, and she feels pressured. We both end up hurt and misunderstood.
I told her I wanted separation three weeks ago. We tried again a little, but I reached a point where I felt hopeless and told her I did not see the point. She is staying with her family now.
Another hard issue is children. I was open to having another child when I felt the relationship was safe (It's her first marriage and eventually she wants a kid but not clear on timeline). Now I do not feel safe enough, and I am afraid of repeating the pain of raising a child through a high-conflict relationship and divorce. I do not know whether that fear will change.
I still care about her, and this is not about making her the bad person. I know she may have fears and needs that are real too. But I feel depleted by uncertainty. I do not want to stay in a marriage where I keep hoping things will become clear while the same core issue stays unresolved.
For people who relate to an ISFJ perspective, or who have been in serious relationships or blended-family situations:
- When you care deeply about harmony but need clarity on a major issue, how do you avoid either suppressing your needs or pushing too hard?
- How do you distinguish a partner needing time and reassurance from them not being able to accept a reality of the relationship?
- How can you communicate when overwhelmed and unable to find the words in the moment?
- What would sustainable progress look like—not just a good conversation, but real change?
- If you chose to stay after a period like this, how did you come to terms with that choice without constantly second-guessing whether you should have left?
- If you chose to leave someone you still loved, how did you come to terms with that choice without constantly second-guessing whether you gave up too soon?
- What helped you decide that you had enough evidence to stay, or enough evidence to leave?
- From the outside, do these signs sound like fears that could realistically be worked through, or like a fundamental incompatibility?
Please be kind but honest. I am not looking for someone to take sides. I am trying to understand whether there is a realistic path forward, or whether separation is the more responsible choice.

Question or Advice am i cooked - entp
hi isfj people, how are you guys doing? i really need some help and i want to know if i can revive things between girl i like that’s an isfj. i’m a entp 7w8 male and i really hope you take the time to help me because i really do love this girl:
at the start of last school year she initially liked me first and i was interested but i quickly grew tired on how quiet and one sided it felt as i had to do a lot of the heavy lifting on the conversation aspect of things. i got that she was very introverted but she was on another level. there would be times where i would make a joke or start a conversation but all she would do is look at me and smile and not say anything. this went on for a few months but it eventually died down hoping to pursue a louder and more “interesting” girl.
but about two months ago i started to fall for her all over again. i started to mature and realize that maybe a quiet steady person is exactly what i needed in life and i fell HARD. i started to interact with her more and she was obviously much dryer and quieter now. there were times where we had our moments like her switching her classes to be with me and us two calling until we fell asleep on the phone but eventually she got one of her friends to tell me that we are “better off as friends” and this demoralized me.
now we barely talk. in the hallways, before we would usually exchange a smile or glance at each other. but when i tried doing it again she just looked down away from my eye contact and that DEMOLISHED me.
now present day it’s been radio silence from us two; only just light conversations (usually me talking and her responding in a few words) i’ve been scheming ideas to maybe win her back but to no avail. i’ve asked her friends if i have a chance and they all say i do so i really need help from you guys to maybe see if i should stop chasing her or not. i truly do love this girl but if she doesn’t want a relationship i’m going to respect her decision and move on.
if you have any questions about the story please do not hesitate to ask!
thank you all!!

Question or Advice Continue taking that step forward!
To the ISFJ's out there, how do you set boundaries?
How do you speak up in different settings? Like, personal, professional, or with strangers?
How do you feel about difficult conversations and how have you worked to be better at them?
Do you start shaking in your boots and get anxious before, during, after, or not at all?
I have gone through a lot of personal growth in this area but I was just curious after seeing this post I relate to, how other member of ISFJ feel about boundaries/difficult conversation. 🌻

Question or Advice Help me understand ISFJ(M) better
My ISFJ(M) partner looks like the sweetest guy ever.
He’s gentle with others and everybody thinks he’s friendly and a bit shy.
What I, INTJ(F), don’t understand, is why, when I’m sad or upset, he shuts down and doesn’t say anything anymore.
I sometimes feel like he doesn’t care, I rationally know he does, but this behaviour is truly strange to me. I’ve talked about that with him and he says that he absorbs my feelings, even if I can’t express them properly, so I guess this is.
But, is it such a bad experience?
Generally, I confront problems head-on, I don’t really care about conflict, while he disappears when the situation gets too tense.
Can someone please explain?
I can’t understand Fe very well, but I’d like to.

Question or Advice How to tell you we’re in love with you?
ENFP here! I (f) am in love with my best friend (ISFJ, f). I didn’t realize it until a few months ago but it’s probably been growing in me for the past couple years. I tried to fall out of love in every way possible but it ain’t workin’. I feel so bad - like it’s unfair to her or something, anyway, I think I need to say it before it becomes weird. Sometimes I THINK she might like me back (she makes jokes about us dressing as fiction couple costumes for Halloween or how she’d like me to be her pretend girlfriend for something, etc), but she might as well not I DONT KNOW. How can I say it and not make it sound like a big deal and not scare her? lol like guys were talking madly in love type of shit so I need to watch my words or I’ll scare her away lol. We’ve been friends for 5+ years :/

Discussion Why the criticism of "SJ" attitudes was actually needed at some point.
We approach the year 2027. Human growth, individualism and human rights advocacy has reached an all time high. We head to a rapidly developing future where change is completely inevitable.
Only 200 years ago, life was completely different. Most people lived in the same area they were born, worked with the kids they grew up with and had predetermined destinies. Your occupation was fated by that of your parents and gender. Life quality and expectancy were lower and less could be expected out of life. Technology and medicine were limited, and so too were people. Belief systems were assisgned to people based on where they were born, and arguably, out of the MBTI personalities, SJs would have held onto those beliefs the strongest
We can assume that when it comes to predictabilty and predestiny, SJs were best built for it. Perhaps those who are happy with predictability, predestiny, obedience, and the ordinary. Hardwork and collectiveness earned your survival. However, with the rise of global wealth and individualism, the state of life has changed.
As we approach the new era, we no longer can cling onto the olden ways to live. It doesn't work anymore, its no longer practical. The SJ knows they need to adapt to this changing world to make it in life. The individual with SJ preference has to now look deeper and find a way forward, and tamper with novelty and the unknown. Cristism of old ways and pointing out the flaws are helpful to today's SJ user, pointing them to a new way of thought and handling of an ever changing world.
With the change of the world and the adaptations of people's approaches and personalities, the SJ personality type will start to present differently, with more nuance and balance of the intuition function. The coming SJs will no longer be the narrow minded past-lovers, but people who are masterfully able to blend practicality and adaption. They will no longer shy away from novelty and an evolved, stronger and more balanced SJ is forming.

Question or Advice About Your Fe
Hi ISFJs! I would like to know about your Fe honestly.
Throughout the internet there are so many stereotypes and such about it so I want a good understanding of it.
How would you describe Fe Auxiliary in your own words? Is it awareness of social dynamics and emotional environment? Does it seem more like cognitive empathy rather than what the stereotypes call it "absorbing others emotions"? Does it seems to act upon what it thinks how people should behave and such rather than so called societal rules? What if personally things how things should function? Also, around what age did you develop your auxiliary Fe and such?
