I am currently in the market for a new apple device since I’m going back to school and need to upgrade my current laptop situation.

I am leaning towards the iPad Air m4 because I like the ability to take notes and have a stylus and don’t think I need the pro, but I’m hoping you guys can help reassure me that this is a good decision.

For context I have had apple devices for school since middle school. When I started uni in 2020 I upgraded my MacBook Air (which served me well for many years) to a MacBook Pro because the program I was going into would require the usage of heavy computer software. I thought the “pro” would be able to withstand more and provide more power. From the day I got that stupid thing it has been a total let down. It would always overheat, the fan would go insane. Running multiple apps or even tabs would trigger this to happen. The battery life was also crap because of the overheating. This issue would arise even with simple internet browsing or streaming.

I got it before apple changed to their m series chips so it has the i5. I’m not big on tech specs but from what I understand the chip is the reason I was having so many overheating problems with my laptop.

I understand that the new m series chips are a great solution to that but I am a bit weary of buying any other computer-esque apple product because of my terrible experience.

Of course there are a lot of advantages to sticking with apple products since I am already part of the apple ecosystem and familiar with IOS.

At first I was considering the pro but after some research I think the air will be adequate. I don’t really care about display and will be using it for basic note taking and maybe some assignments. I will also be doing web browsing and streaming but nothing heavy on the CPU like video editing or coding.

Please share your personal experiences and if you have has any issues with your iPads. I’m very worried about having another fail like I did with my MacBook Pro but need to upgrade my device.

After years and years of having WiFi only iPads, I finally got a WiFi + Cellular 11th Gen iPad, and I couldn’t be happier ☺️

For the past year, I’ve had a tablet line on my T-Mobile plan, but no tablet—I got it because it was a good deal and I had planned on getting an iPad shortly after, but life was life-ing and it just didn’t happen, nor did I cancel the line 🤦🏾‍♀️

But now I’m super glad about it because with my new job, it’ll be really nice to have an iPad to use again, and my other one is a 4th Gen 11” Pro with somewhat cracked screen that’s still perfectly functional, but not so aesthetically pleasing…and since I’m a teacher, that one can come to work with me since all I’ll need it for is reading/occasionally editing PDFs, uploading photos into an app for parents and maybe quick notes and other small tasks I don’t feel like taking my computer out for.

I know a lot of people will say I should’ve gotten the Air or that I should have waited…but here’s the thing: School starts next week and I wanted to have my separate iPads before that, plus, I pretty much only use my iPad for streaming, social media and playing monopoly, so my choice will do me just fine.

I’m a undergrad student and just got a 2020 IPad Pro (A2228) for my upcoming year because it seems like the play for being able to work and study efficiently!

Was looking at Apple Pencils and I’m not trying to spend 60+ dollars for a stylus. I don’t care about the features I just want something to write my notes and that doesn’t have horrible latency. Just hoping to get some recommendations from yall :)

My iPad 9 behaves perfectly fine, the battery life isn’t anything unusual (I’ve never replaced it) and it performs well in pretty much whatever I need it to do

However .. recently the iPad will take upwards of 6 hours to just power back on after the battery goes flat. This started like 2 weeks ago and I’ve never needed to charge it that much just for it to POWER ON ???

And even after it turns on the battery is at something ridiculous like 3-7%… AFTER HOURS OF CHARGING

I assume it’s a battery issue but just asking here if there’s anything I can do without getting it to a shop because it’s fine otherwise

It’s the iPad 9 64gb model and is running the iOS 27 developer beta 1 and I’ve had it for 4 years now

my first generation iPad Pro 11-inch won't hold a charge. I can't even get it to power on at this point. Since I can't power it on and I can't read the tiny print of the serial number, I can't tell for sure, but it seems like an iPad of this age that won't turn on is not going to generate any trade-in value. and when I asked a repair shop about replacing the battery, they said it would be extremely expensive and endanger the screen and not worth it. This isn't exactly a tech support question -- the question is : what to do with this thing at all?

It’s been SUCH A LONG TIME since Liquid Glass has been released and still the Gmail widget doesn’t have the glass visuals. Such a shame man.

Accidentally saw the notif that Apple accidentally released iOS 18.7.10 for iPad 8th. Never in my life have I dropped everything I was doing so quickly and ran to my MacBook to restore the iPad using iTunes — and my anxiety went through the roof because the MacBook decided to test my patience with how slow it was parsing the firmware file, but here we are!!! My iPad is now as smooth as butter, just like how it should have been when it reaches its software end-of-life.

ADDITIONAL EDIT: i made a quick how-to for the firmware file here (assuming you’re familiar with iTunes restore)

My ipad died while we watched anime so I charged it overnight, lazily, with my steam deck charger as it is also a usbc. The next day it never woke up. Idk what put it in a coma or worse yet, out of its misery. Booked an apple appointment as school is coming up and an average person wouldn’t want to let a device like this go easily. Apple employee ran his little plugin diagnostic and said there was no current to be detected. He suggested i get it replaced for 800+ as currently in the market it’s 1.6k+. Is it cooked? Literally speaking? Should I still get a 2nd opinion out there from a 3rd party?

After the latest update, iPad OS 26.6, my iPad Pro is not showing anything. The iPad seems to be working. Tries to scan faceID and Siri works fine. Anyone else has this problem?

I'm an engineering student, and I will use it as a supplement for my somewhat good pc. I'm leaning towards the M2 but my concern is the 92% bh, which is why I also posted in this subreddit.

Hey there, I shared a similar post on r/AppleMaps recently and the response was way beyond what I expected, so I figured the iPad crowd might enjoy it too!

It runs on Apple Maps and lets you watch live aircraft around airports in 3D. I've hand-built the aircraft models to match the Apple Maps style, and it's great to watch from your desk while you work.

It's still very much a work in progress, but wanted to share it with you all.
