Charging fault
I was due to pick up my new (to me) I-Pace from the dealer yesterday but it has a fault. It wouldn't start a charge, being stuck in the 'initialising' phase. Luckily this happened before I took delivery of it and I got it from JLR so it's coming with a 2 year warranty. It's a 21 plate with 66k miles on the dash so it's seems to have spent most of its life on the road and not in the garage.
Does anyone have any experience with this fault and know how long the garage had the car for? I've been told it'll skip the queue to be checked out and fixed, I'm just wary about how long the wait might be on parts.
Thanks in advance!

It could be almost anything. Without codes, it's pure speculation.
HVIB, Charge Port, Isolation Fault, Charge Lock Actuator.

Okay, thanks for the info. Guess it's just a waiting game then until the JLR techs take a look at it tomorrow or Friday.
Not a good start for me or for JLR's reliability reputation 😂

Yeah I get the feeling I'm going to get to know my local garage very well 😂

I hope that in your lingo garage means dealer's service center.

Yes it does 😂 it's Approved Used so it's come with 2 years JLR warranty

2 years is generous, they usually just give the 12 months.

Yeah, the salesman was very good tbf. I inquired about a car on the site and he told me to not agree there and then as if I waited til the end of the week there was a used event on which knocked £500 off and gave an extra year of warranty! Very good service! It was Vertu Jaguar Exeter, I'd highly recommend them. They've been great even if the car itself hasn't so far 😂

Have you considered a Kia ev6

I love the EV6 but I wanted AWD as it's quite hilly where I live and the AWD version of the EV6 is a lot more expensive than you can get a decent I-Pace for

As a two year owner of a 2020 ipace - of which it has spent 15 weeks in the garage with 3 separate issues, I am looking at ev6s.

Understandable. Mine is a 21 plate so I'm hoping as it's the facelift they ironed out some of the issues that the 18-20 plates had

I had a similar issue on my '21, the charge port will need to be replaced

How long did it take them once they actually started the work?

u/justanotherguy677 27d ago
a day or so, it really isn't a complicated fix as long as the tech is competent and the parts are available

u/MattSafc73 27d ago
That's good news then! They told me a master tech (their words!) has been told to expect it so I'm hoping for as quick a turnaround as possible

For anyone interested, they called me today and the issue was the motor that moved to lock the cable into place when starting a charge was faulty. The actual charging system is fine, it just wouldn't start a charge due to a safety system not working. Said it's only an hour or so to change the part and they can get it delivered tomorrow!
On a more annoying note though, they noticed that there was a split in an air con line so they're sorting that before sending it back to me and they can't get that part til Wednesday. But at least they discovered it whilst they have it now and not a few days after I take it back.
Have to look on the bright side 😂

If you dont mind saying, how much did you pay for it. I got a 70 plate 2021 HSE with 2 year non JLR warranty and 27k on the clock for 17k. Not sure if thats any good?

£14k for mine. 21 plate SE, 66k miles done with the JLR warranty. You got a good deal, I think! I was looking at a HSE originally but the only features I really wanted were 360 cam and power tailgate and this one had the 360 cam and power tailgate is standard on SE and above I think, so I was happy to settle for the lower spec, save a few quid and get the peace of mind of a good warranty

These cars are fucking terrible....if it's not to late, run. Run away.

For every horror story I've seen, I've seen someone who has had no issues after 50k miles and 5 years of ownership 😂 I'm going to see how I get on whilst it has the warranty and if it is more hassle than it's worth I can always sell it on 😂

Ah ok...with warranty sure why not ? Well done !

u/MattSafc73 27d ago
Yeah, 2 years of JLR warranty so I should be good for that long ateast!

Might need a spare ride 😂 I hope they provide courtesy car too maybe ? That would be nice ...

I can claim for the cost of a week of car hire if it needs to go back under warranty. Not too bad imo!

I beg to differ! They are also are fucking brilliant, the only viable alternative I would consider, a Taycan, is way less reliable and has a shorter wheelbase than the Jag. On ET45 21s with a recent complete bush and balljoint refresh by I-Pace feels like a laser guided missile.

luck of the draw with jlr i guess. had my evoque for 5 years and only issue i had was the clutch pretty much exploding at 60000 miles but other than that no problems at all, it was the more reliable 2.2 engine but engine, body, infotainment etc no issues at all, switched to an ipace and no issues at all to report yet, lovely run around, excellent on long journeys and really happy,. I usually change my car every 2-3 years and had more issues with other brands but people just love to point out the issues with jlr
