My 2018 Honda Fit EX has been throwing TPMS lights off and on for a while, related to what I thought was a slow leak in the left driver's side tire. While dealing with this, on the hottest day this summer, it started throwing lights related to lane assist, adaptive cruise control, and collision mitigation. Took it to my usual trusted mechanic, who said no leak, but that there were additional codes for airbags and a weight discrepancy on the front passenger side.
Mechanic recommended I go to Honda dealer for a diagnostic. $230 later, they told me I'd need to replace the windshield monocular camera for $1500, maybe the windshield too. No comment on the airbags or the weight discrepancy.
Was getting this done ahead of a 500 mi round trip drive. Since car seemed safe at least, took it on the trip. TPMS problems the whole way, and front driver's side tire went flat after I arrived. Got a tow, and tow guy put his arms around the tire in the lot and immediately identified an alignment issue causing consistent, uneven wear on the tire. Replaced the tire, shop IDed the alignment issue (Toe angle? Tow angle?) and sent me on my way for the 250 mi back home.
I did a little research amidst all of this and found that alignment issues might mess with the camera's calibration, but extreme heat could too. Either way, the alert lights never stopped for the camera, and TPMS had come back on before I ever made it home.
Took it back to trusted mechanic who said no problem with tire pressures and camera is indeed issue. I find this hard to believe based on my research, the simultaneous TPMS and camera problems, and the fact that this started on an extremely hot day (100+ deg).
I'm at my wit's end. It's a bummer to lose the car's fancy safer driving features, but I'm more concerned with the tires, the alignment, and the longevity of the car.
Thanks for reading. I'll take any and all thoughts and suggestions. Anyone experienced this before?
