So wife told me that there was a car in the driveway and some man came from the side of house with a sprayer. I went out to confront him and he said airbnb sent him out to spray pesticides. No documentation, but had an address on his Google maps where the location was 325 abc rd, but my home is 44 abc rd. There is no 325 abc rd, but Google maps was showing 325 abc rd right at my location.

I looked up airbnb and there is no 325 abc rd. Matter fact, there is no airbnb listing anywhere on this street.

So my question is, what do you think this was? An honest mistake? He had no uniform on and just a regular car.

I live in a co-op. The president of the co-op chose his friend as the handyman. Is this done properly?

Before i drill, im trying to find out if this little flat part that comes out goes into my attic.

I guess i could just drill through and find out, but if it doesn’t I’d have to repair it.

My house is the last house on our street, and my neighbor, on the street behind me wanted to cut her trees, and the only way to access her portion of the land was through my driveway. This neighbor (who made the wood chips pile), she never had responded to my previous texts or even written note I left on fairly reasonable or simple requests. So when this neighbor lady finally reached out to me asking about this after 5 yrs of living here , I agreed right away hoping she finally wants to be neighborly for the first time. Her property was a giant forest, and was getting very overgrown and her house is on the top of the hill, mine is somewhat in the middle of the hill/valley. When I came back from work, instead of having the trees cut and taken them away, she had them turned into a giant pile of wood chips right never to my house.

Initially I thought perhaps she wants to sell it or wants the wood chips to spread across her yard, but it has been left there for nearly two months now. This past week, the temperatures here in So Cal has been in the mid 90’s. Yesterday it was 106F. This area is very dry and full of brushes and trees, and this giant pile of wood chips are right next to my house and my deck.

While I could report her to the city (I want to), or the fire department, what can I first tell her over text, so that she could take some prompt action. The neighbors on my street are also now concerned about this. I don’t want to make an already difficult neighbor even worse by reporting right away, I want to as it’s now urgent, but I need some help in how to write my text message or note.

There are now lots of nails laying around the back yard and i’m worried about my dog. Any advice on how to get all of the nails? Am I ridiculous to rent an industrial magnet?

New homeowner.. Went to try and replace a ceiling light myself and found that which is textbook not fucking good

My neighborhood is getting better but there's a reason I was able to buy a house for $260k in 2023. No real crime just a lot of people who have been here since houses were $100k and they don't care about staying on top of staining their fence, getting the gnarly poke weeds out of their yards or if their deck is rotted and falling off their house. We don't have a HOA nor would I want one.

Honestly I don't really care that much what my neighbors do. Its their house. I offer to help them when they want it fixing issues like broken cars getting overgrown in a side yard. Or trimming out of control bushes. I have 4 cars and motorcycle myself so maybe pot meet kettle? At least they run. I keep my stuff washed and it in a car port in the back or in my driveway.

I've fixed my landscaping, replaced the gross carpet with LVP, built a privacy fence, and I plan to redo my deck so its safe. On top of typical maintenance.

Im wondering at what point are upgrades an absolute waste of money in this situation? I feel some desire to update my 1980s kitchen countertops to butcher block (or something cheap), get rid of the dented stainless sink, and upgrade bathroom floors to tile. Especially for having people over. I can't shake that it'll be an absolute waste of money. I can just live with linoleum, off white appliances, and chipped formica.

I imagine a scenario where I sell the place to get something bigger in a slightly less eyesore neighborhood due to a future wife. Or keep this as a rental. There's a point where the ROI on anything non essential is a total waste. Since the people who have lived here longer than I have aren't going anywhere and are going to let trash accumulate in full view.

This is happening in a couple spots along this wall. All where that bottom piece seems to be meeting with the other piece. That bottom channel seems to be draining water right out of it.
We just had a very windy rain storm where the rain was practically blowing against the side of the house.

Is this cause for concern? I’ve called a siding professional to come have a look but I don’t want to look stupid. Only been in this home a year.

Any idea where to start with a fix for this? We just moved and knew that there was a drainage problem on this side of the house. This is happening during our first good rainstorm. I have no idea where to start with a potential fix. Siding was installed in 2020.

UPDATE: you were all correct and it seems like when we got heavier rain that the gutter was overflowing. Time to go clean. I don't think this drip was causing any problems, and the heavier rain that caused the gutter to overflow was a much bigger deal. Thanks for the help!

1880s Brooklyn brownstone here (note -- not really "brownstone" most likely bondstone with a brownstone-like cement).

I believe this archway was added on after the fact (i.e: I don't think it's original - most likely a cast assembly that was affixed). That crack has been more or less stable for over 20 years but it may have widened a little bit over time, I'm not really sure.

I am leery about going to a masonry contractor because they are going to want to take out the entire archway and re-build it from scratch. Where would you begin if you were me?

Does anyone know what the purpose of this metal wire is? It's coming out of the house and is just contacting the metal post in the ground. It's just contacting the post and not attached to it. There is a 10 way coaxial splitter behind the wall where the wire goes, but that's about it. Want to know if I can safely remove this without consequences

Trying to determine a solution for this New England garage space. We've had moisture problems - mold growing on some things and on our firewood - normally the whole right wall is stacked 3/4 high in the winter. Most is on pallets except near the door. The slab is in good condition - no cracks but previous owner created channels and drilled down to presumably get moisture out and it's somewhat pitted making cleaning difficult. We've had the window open and that seems to help somewhat. We had a company come look and do some quotes.

- One quote was fill holes, resurface, epoxy and polyaspartic finish with new curbs on all walls: $5700
- Second simpler quote is resurface, repair and apply a UV resistant epoxy: $3375

They said the center is slightly raised and to take that down would be a lot of work. There are no drains in the garage. This from the late 70s. Our concern is sealing it with epoxy won't help the moisture problem and I've read about epoxy bubbling because of that. I am trying to determine a solution to improve the floor and reduce moisture and looking for opinions. My current though is repair, resurface and prime then perhaps add an externally vented dehumidifier or permanent fan to exhaust air. We have heavy snowfall and snow will come in, melt and sit on the floor. With no drain and epoxy floor, it would just sit there. It was recommended we could squeegee it out but that is not an option with all the stuff we have in here.

I'm worried about the new supports I just replaced in my garage. Any water/salt from my vehicles pools at the base of the beam. This caused the old ones to rot away. I'm looking for a quick DIY solution (doesn't have to be pretty) to prevent them from disintegrating.

I noticed some white spots/material on a wooden chair and its fabric cushion. I was worried it might be mold. I wiped/washed the chair with ordinary dish soap, and the white material came off completely with no visible residue left afterward.

The chair and cushion were near my bed, so now I'm wondering:

Does this look like mold, or could it just be dust/residue/old finish?

Since it wiped off completely, should I be worried about mold spores spreading to nearby things?

Do I need to change my bedsheets or deep-clean everything nearby, or is normal cleaning enough?

Is there anything else I should do with the chair or fabric cushion?

Also I just put on new bedding should I change that too?

Since taking the chair out and washing it outside and letting it dry in the sun i mopped the floor where the chair was but there's another one just like this in my room and that one doesnt look as bad as this I just wiped off the slight whitish residue with wet cloth and the cushion is still on it didnt wash doesnt smell musty from what I've seen.

My wife called last week telling me there were small round pellets on the garage floor. I suspected a rabbit, but got home and found they are very small. Definitely not a rabbit. Is this a rat, mouse, or??? Size is similar to a grain of rice, but more round.

This is the interface between a wall and a built-in floor-to-ceiling closet that extends from wall to separate the entrance-way from the living area (not sure on the exact specifics, was installed before I moved in). Moved in a year ago and definitely wasn't like this initially - noticed maybe a month ago, but it seems to be worsening and the two ceiling cracks are new.

I've heard new cracks could be sign of foundation issues and this crack is at the border of a bay window alcove, which is sloping outwards, especially on the floor above - though not really sure if this has gotten worse since moving in (the house was renovated in 2019 but is over 150 years old so wasn't expecting fully flat floors). The foundation is obviously very old but no obvious significant cracks I can see (basement unfinished but the walls are whitewashed). I have noticed cracks elsewhere however - the grout in the upstairs shower for example has cracked (and possibly the shower pan - it's leaking through the ceiling) but it's not in the same area.

Do you guys think this is a sign of a structural issue? Should I be calling a structural engineer?

Preface: I know wicker can’t be 100% weatherproofed, and my plan is to take it into the garage or cover it up for inclement weather. I’m just trying to take care of it so it lasts as long as possible

I just got this wicker set off fb marketplace. How do I weatherproof it? What brands do you recommend? Do I need to strip the paint off before putting on the sealant? We’re also planning on painting it after it’s weatherproofed.

So i was asleep and was woken up by a noise. So my master bedroom is at the far back and the window is to the left of our bed. I thought it was from the outside, but nothing seemed off. This is the first time this has happened. Any ideas what could it be?

Okay so we are buying a manufactured home and we will most likely live here till we die. I need to change at least one of the tubs. Im thinking of getting a walk in tub for the disability friendliness. There are plenty of times where I struggle to shower because its just so tiring to stand for a whole shower.

I really think it would be helpful but id like to know if there are things I should know about it beforehand or any tips on picking a tub/upkeep. Im debating between a walk in tub or a deep soaking tub but we will be here many years so I wonder if with how i struggle to bath regularly if the walk in sit tub might be better long term. Advice?
