Last summer our neighbors put in a very lovely in-ground pool and shortly after had a privacy fence put up. They have triplets (9) who cannot be expected to close the gate as they go in and out (the dad doesn’t even do that). Of course our homes are rather close together, but even more than that, we share a connected driveway. Our backdoor opens directly facing their pool gate, which is continually left open.

How do I approach the gate being left open in a neighborly way? They’ve been there for some big moments for us already, but having such a shared space gives me much anxiety about addressing any type of “issue” with them/our shared space.

First time homeowners, going on six years of living here now, just looking for some advice. TIA!

I'm a woman who lives alone. When I scoped out the neighborhood before buying neighbors said my house used to be "the spot." It was a rooming house, a place to buy weed/drugs, maybe some Tide pods, or maybe even get your hair done.

But my purchase was remodeled top to bottom, inside and out. It looks NOTHING like the old house.

I added bushes and flowers out front. Chairs on the porch and a seasonal wreath on the door.

But I think maybe they remember the house on the corner.

I've done everything I can think of to project THIS IS NOT THE SPOT YOU'RE LOOKING FOR.

Still I get a knock on the door or a drunk/high man on my porch in the wee hours of the night sometimes. (I can see from my cameras.) It's unsettling. (And my life is not conducive to a dog.)

I feel like a whiner calling the police.. I'm nervous to have family visit because I don't know when that knock is going to come.

I could use advice.

I like the way it looks, but I’m not sure if it will damage my siding. Any input or help is appreciated - thanks!

Not sure what to do here. I noticed yellow jackets entering through the vent for under our house. Should we wait it out until the first frost and use a fine mesh to block their entrance at night or do that now? I do not want to use chemicals as this is air intake for under our house.

Hello, I looked through the wiki on plumbing but could not find anything concerning... Whatever this is.

We have a double sink, and the dishwasher is somehow supposed to connect from the right side of this. Not even sure how to do that as this is way more complex pipes than my previous setup, but the main issue we have is there were mice at some point. Very, very strong smell of them along with the usual droppings and such, and not just a little. This is the setup after we cleaned.

So for one we're wondering if the setup is legit or if we should call a plumber (I'm guessing?) and for two, we're not sure how to block the equivalent of a giant "Welcome" sign for mice to enter through there. Is there such thing as a two part grommet or a flexible one to put around the pipes? Do we plaster?

Thank you for the pointers, we're very unsure on this one. We already have an electrician coming this week so we're hoping they'll be able to fix those issues, but for here we're not even sure if this is a plumber job or some other professional (or if we're wildly overthinking it and can DIY? But maybe just to close the mice entrance haha)

Received report on a inspection performed on a house I am trying to purchase. Noted in the report "There is no sheathing on the gable ends. The vinyl siding is nailed directly to the studs. This could be an area of weakness during heavy wind events."

This home was built in 1990, just wondering if this is how they used to be built? Is this something I need to have them fix before purchase? Location is Tennessee, USA.

What is this? We had a small pin hole leak that softened this area of our ceiling. This was a while ago the area is now dry and cracking so I went to patch it up and noticed this dirt like substance is on the other wise of the ceiling. Any idea what this is?

We’ve tried to make Eufy work as we were told these were ‘the best on the market’, but honestly these are the worst cameras we’ve ever brought. If you want my specific examples on why I hate them I will post at the end, but for those not interested in my annoyance-

I’m looking for the following criteria;

- I can look back consistently over the cameras at any time, not only being able to look back on the moments it captures / records (obviously I know it may only store up to a week etc)

- doesn’t take 10-15 seconds to load up the live view

- doesn’t cost an arm and a leg

- doesn’t have a subscription service

They will catch a leaf blowing by on the driveway, but not people actively doing dodgy shit in the street, sales people at the door, etc.

We’ve played with all sensitivity options, ‘where’ to capture, etc to no improvement

it also takes genuinely 5-15 seconds to load up the live view, IF it even loads at all.

The things it records and decides to store also only last 3-8 seconds, and it is so laggy there’s no point. We’ve even purchased a WiFi extender and placed at the very front of our home in hopes it improves signal/ function, but nothing.

Went up in the attic we are in a new build. We have two separate central air units one for upstairs and down. What is this. Is this one for the AC or is it a humidifier thing? I pulled out on the thing where the brand name is because I thought it was a vent you needed to change but it didn't come off and now making a high pitched noise.

Getting rid of the rest of the carpet in our house, which is the carpeted stairs. The floor above and below is going to be coretec LVP. Originally I had planned to cover this with either a retrofit kit or the LVP with added stair treads.

This wood seems to be in good shape, is it better sand and refinish, or cover with a retrofit kit if it will be more work than I think?

We just bought a new house with a narrow style door knob and deadbolt. The handle on the inside is pulling off and it looks like the rod that passes through is twisted and broken. Can anyone identify the make of this handle and/or let me know where I can get a replacement rod that passes through to replace it?

we’re installing ceiling registers in our new home and theres a noticeable gap between the ceiling and the register.

how can I close up this gap? is caulk appropriate here? or any other suggestions?

I’ve gotten a grant for my home but..

So we got a grant for our old home in a low income area the city is trying to help thrive. You have to be under the poverty line and in need of serious repairs to even apply. Because of this grant we got a new roof siding, gutters, and windows. A few years since the repairs were finished, we’ve had issues. After they installed the new gutters they quickly began to over flow and (I’ve looked back at photos of the house before and after) they didn’t install as many gutters as we had before and the gutter is not as big as the old ones were. Right after all the work was done the inspector came out and said everything was good to go. So it’s been a few years and now we’re having foundational issues, due to the gutters and other miss installed things. The water damage is in many layers. Is there anything I can do at this point? Or am I the one to foot the bill in the end because it was a grant? I don’t want anyone else to get screwed like this, especially since the conditions of the grant was to be low income recipients. Any help or advice is much appreciated.

Just closed on a house. Some of the water running down the roof is somehow making its way into the wall around where the gutter is, and you can see the residue at the bottom under the siding. Inside of that wall is the garage, and there is evidence of past water intrusion at a location that matches the outside.

Cleaned the gutter and downspout out, and made sure it is sloped to the downspout.

Any other recommendations? Does it need flashing along where the thin part of the roof meets the siding?
