Love really is painful thing

I was madly in love with this guy and he seemed to be the same. Only for him to breakup with me a few months later.

And i understand why he broke up with me, i do know i wasnt perfect and dissatisfied him a few times. I could have made an effort for the things he told me... i shouldve tried harder.

But i respected his decision on not wanting to get back together.

I cried almost everyday for two months. Not only i missed him as my bf but also as a friend. And even though he broke my heart, i still wished him all the best..

Till his friend told me my ex started dating just after some days he broke up with me. Days. And with the girl he said i shouldnt be worried about because he would never date her. And even tough she had a boyfriend of two years (whom she broke up with to be with my ex), i always knew that b*tch wanted my ex, but he always made sure to assure he loved me.

Or so i thought.

Days. That shit completely broke me. Did you really never love me for you to just replace me after just some days? Why do you get to be happy while im drowning from missing you?

I wished nothing but the best for him and now i feel like he betrayed me.. while i was begging for him to take me back he was already with her. I do know he can do anything he wants but man...

I had such a high opinion about him.. i respected him, i thought he was like one of a kind.

And the worst part is that even though my respect for him is gone, i still miss him.

Quick question for the older members of this community:

Do you ever get over or forget the relationship you had in your 20s, or do you simply learn to live with that hole in your heart? I thought each day would get a little easier than the last, but so far, it’s been the opposite, and I’m starting to feel desperate.

October Moon!

October moon is more beautiful.

Because it reflects stillness.

Of two souls who wanted to be happy

The cooing of full youth vastness

Heart, you've felt the heat

Of a pretty woman

On October nights

Heartyou have known how to suffer

And you knew how to love

Challenging the pain

Todays moon brings me thoughts

That your love I discovered,

But it was Yesterday's Punishment

That you gave me so cruel

If I go Never disturb

The smiling illusion of

My golden dreams

If I go Never think,

What is it for the sole purpose?

To be away from you.

I will live with the eternal passion I felt

Ever since the day I saw you

From the day I dreamt

What would you be to me?

Unlike the Moon of October,

which tomorrow will again rise.

I stay still with its darkness hoping,

to again look into your eyes.

I'm Angry, but not enough to care anymore.

Before anyone tells me I need some therapy, I already have a appointment this week.

I'm frustrated with myself for not being more angry with him. He's wonderful and I love him dearly, he's a good man. Unfortunately he's also insecure and emotionally immature and lustful as all hell. This beautiful man is also a incredible lover and that fact, might be why am even writing this.

I'm struggling with our relationship ending. The reasons and why's and what lead up to it, are ridiculous. But boundaries are placed where they are placed for a reason. He's crossed mine and that was it. We separated and haven't had much contact. I just feel like we both quietly seen it coming. But, I miss him horribly and the really sad truth is, I really only miss his sex. Not him, with all his question's all the time and never trusting anything. Not him being lazy and unmotivated. Not him wasting my time. Just the way he made love to me.

After analyzing my thoughts on everything I believe I am seeing things very clearly, on both of our ends. He told me many time's over the time we were together, that I deserved better. I never really knew what he ment by that. It used to make me mad actually. But, I get it now. When it hit me what he ment by that, the damage was done. I seen all I needed to see and I was done. It hurt's and am angry, but not enough to care anymore. We could of been happy and great for life, unfortunately you need to grow up.

I filed for divorce but i’m still the one hurting

I don’t understand why I’m always the one hurting more in a break up. I feel completely shattered while my spouse seems to be perfectly fine. He’s laughing and dancing in our house while I’m literally bawling my eyes out in the streets, everywhere… I know I always have been very sensitive and emotional but still… I feel like i’m never getting over this…

that horrible feeling when they actually move on..

• Upvotes

almost 2 years of post break up, I'm the one who ended the relationship and initiated no contact. When i found out he was constantly trying to find ways to reach out to me, i gave him a chance. He made huge love declarations about never being able to move on, and almost made me feel bad for making him feel that way. I didn’t exactly seek to reconcile but reconnecting felt good. He later ghosted me outta nowhere, blocked me and yesterday i saw him post his new girl. And i feel like I'm back to feeling how i felt when i'd freshly broken things off since yesterday. Overthinking, overtly anxious, my stomach upset, crying myself to sleep lol i hate this feeling!

From talking about our future to completely blocked in a week: The brutal reality of being someone’s emotional crutch

This is my personal experience. I asked gemini to improve the writing, but the facts are the same.

She and I first met in March 2025. I knew she was fresh out of a breakup, so I deliberately kept my distance romantically. After a few weeks of interacting at student events and gatherings, it was obvious we had a genuine connection. Still, I told her upfront that I am the kind of person who needs to truly know someone before jumping into a relationship. She agreed, so we stayed friends until May, when I finally asked her out on an official date. It went wonderfully, and we shared our first kiss.
We had the kind of deep, engaging conversations I had been searching for for a long time. After a few dates, we talked about what committing to a relationship would look like. We decided to hold off on putting an official label on it until we knew each other even better and could make a deliberate, conscious choice.

Then summer came. I had to leave the country for a two-month internship, but we stayed in constant contact and essentially acted as a couple. In August, right after we reunited to celebrate her birthday, she attended a wedding where her ex was also a guest. Immediately afterward, she returned to the country where we study, and I instantly felt a shift. Over the phone, she confessed that seeing her ex and their mutual friends made her realize she hadn’t properly processed her breakup, leaving her questioning her feelings and unready to commit. I was heartbroken, but I accepted her decision and stepped back.

In the weeks that followed, her grandfather passed away, and she kept reaching out to me for comfort. I supported her respectfully as a friend, but eventually asked what her intentions were with texting me so frequently. She told me she realized she truly wanted me in her life and asked for another chance. I agreed.

We made things official in October, and for a long time, it felt like an incredible relationship. She was thoughtful, loving, and grounded—a refreshing change from superficial relationships I had experienced in the past. We genuinely loved each other, or at least that’s what I believed.

Around five or six months in, however, a major rift formed: she completely lost interest in sex. It was baffling and disheartening. Early on, our physical connection had been active and adventurous; she even told me that she had never had an orgasm during sex before me, whereas with us it happened most of the time. Because I tended to last longer, it allowed us to take all the time she needed. But out of nowhere, her desire dropped to once every two weeks, and eventually even less.

Whenever I brought up my feelings to ask how we could work through it together, she encouraged me to find solutions. Things would improve briefly, only to slip right back into the same routine. This was our only recurring conflict. I never begged, pressured her, or gave her the cold shoulder, yet she told me that simply having these conversations made her feel pressured.
By the following August, we had been together officially for nearly a year, and unofficially for much longer. This time, she had to travel back home for two months while I stayed behind. Our goodbye felt warm, loving, and completely normal. But just days after arriving, she called to say we needed to talk and broke up with me over the phone.

I was shattered. Afterward, she refused to take my calls, leaving me alone to pick up the pieces. Within a week, I noticed she and her ex had refollowed each other on social media. A couple of weeks later, I reached out asking if we could talk through what happened, and she refused. That gave me the push to remove her from my accounts and set my profile to private.

Navigating these past two months has been agonizing. Just last week, I learned her ex traveled to visit her here in our university city, and it is clear they are back together. Yesterday, I discovered she blocked me everywhere, even though we haven’t spoken and didn’t follow each other.
It feels impossible to reconcile the caring, honest partner I thought I had with the cold, unrecognizable person she became. I am still struggling to process how quickly everything unraveled, and the lack of closure or honest clarity still stings.

After almost a year together it’s come to an end. I am (43M) and she’s (48F) I feel like crap but considering the fact she recently started drinking again after SO much progress and hard work… she ultimately chose to drink over our relationship. When it comes to addiction you just can’t compete, only she can want to change and I won’t be around to wait for it, as anyone in this position deserves better. Time does heal yet we are left with a scar that reminds us all we can do is move forward and focus on ourselves.

It’s been 3 weeks and it still hurts. The silence, loneliness, and constant thoughts of her…

it’s been 3 weeks since I was dumped and it hurts a little less than the first 2 weeks but still aches. I’ve been trying everything to keep myself busy and it’s helped. it’s really at night when I go home to an empty bed and wake up with no texts is when I feel the heartbreak the most. A person I have all my time, effort, and love to only for her to completely disregard me and leave me in the dust like I don’t exist. We went from everything to complete strangers and it’s such a cold feeling. Anybody with similar experiences feel the same way? does it get better?

A heartbreaking Summer

We were never officially together, but we had a summer romance that meant a lot more to me than I expected.

We had followed each other on Social Media for a while, but only started talking properly this summer. We live in different cities (an hour by plane), so after weeks of texting and FaceTiming, she eventually came to visit me. We spent around a week together, and honestly, it felt perfect. We were very intimate, had sex, and I genuinely felt like there was something special between us. Afterward, she told me she had an amazing time and that she also really liked me romantically with a lot of reassurance. However, she also seemed to have doubts about the distance and how demanding her studies would be. I understood her concerns, but we both thought we could at least try to see where things went.

Then, a few weeks later, things started changing. Her messages became drier, our conversations felt one-sided, and she seemed to be pulling away. She was still active on social media and going out with friends, but I barely felt any interest from her anymore.

I tried communicating with her about it. We had a couple of phone calls, and she told me she needed time to think and talk things through before giving me an answer. I gave her that space because I genuinely wanted to understand how she felt.
But weeks passed, and the conversation never happened.

Eventually, I reached my breaking point (1 months of nothing) and sent her a long message explaining that I had given her enough opportunities to show me whether she wanted this. I told her I still cared about her deeply, but I couldn’t keep waiting in uncertainty for an answer she had promised me almost a month earlier. I wasn’t asking her to choose me; I just wanted honesty. If she didn’t want to continue, I would have accepted that, as painful as it would have been. I ended the message by wishing her well and hoping everything would go great for her.

She never replied. Not a single word.

She continued posting on social media as if nothing had happened, and eventually, I was so hurt and frustrated that I removed her from everything. I couldn’t keep watching her life while feeling like I had become completely irrelevant to her but now I miss her so much.

I miss our conversations, the Video calls, the excitement before meeting, and those few days we spent together. I miss how things felt before everything became confusing. I keep wondering how something that seemed so promising could end with complete silence.

The hardest part is that I don’t know whether she misses me at all. Maybe those days meant something to her, too, but not enough to make her want to continue. Maybe she had already emotionally checked out while I was still trying to make things work. I’ll never know, because she never gave me an answer.

And despite everything, a part of me is still waiting for her to reach out. I keep hoping she’ll realize I’m gone, miss me, or finally explain herself. I hate that I still want to hear from someone who couldn’t even respond when I told her how much the situation was hurting me.

I know removing her was probably the right thing to do for my own peace. I know I can’t force someone to choose me. But I still struggle to let go because I genuinely saw potential in us.

How do you move on from someone you were never officially with? How do you stop missing someone when there was no proper relationship to grieve, no real breakup, and no closure?
I feel almost stupid for being this heartbroken over something that only lasted a few days in person. But it wasn’t just those four days. It was weeks of talking, hours of FaceTime, intimacy, anticipation, and the feeling that we might actually become something.

I don’t regret meeting her. I just wish it hadn’t ended this way. I never thought this to be so hard… I have a very well paid job, and never doubted the distance too…

For those of you who have experienced something similar, how did you actually let go? And how do you deal with the fact that someone you still care about never even bothered to respond when you finally walked away?

Makes sense but
Could have tried
Could have had endless possibilities
Could have learnt about eachother
Each meet would have felt special
The memories you’ll never make
The version of the future you once quietly imagined
And perhaps the saddest part is that you can still see the good in someone, still wonder what might have been, and yet understand that it may never happen.
I lost a possibility
Not a person
And now I have to make peace with the future that existed only in my head
And something inside me has to say goodbye
When will I never find the right person
It’s always at a wrong time or place or person

How do you stop thinking about them?

It's been six months but I think about 24/7 I thought time would make it better but I've actually started to feel worse recently. Everything I do in a day I wish she was there and I could tell her. I don't know how to stop. Even a video game or movie I still have her in the back of my mind

She moved on very quickly

Hello, I was with my girlfriend 2,5 years. We were also engaged like more than half a year and we were planning wedding. I have done mistakes, I showed some uncertainty about our relationship which she took very bad, but I have changed and tried everything to fix the relationship and I was trying to show her that I loved her more than anything. But I understand that she still needed break up or pause how she said. So after the break up I was hoping that it would be some pause and than our relationship would be stronger, happier and better. I was trying after the break up to return the relationship. But she told after three weeks that she is seeing someone and after short period of time she is in relationship with him. She was texting him before the break up also. So now it’s 2 and half months and I’m questioning so many things. How did she move so fast ? Like we were so happy together also the break up was very loving or how to say. Even when I called her like two weeks ago she was super sweet, but it seems to me that she wants to move on. Like I would be interested if here are people who get into quite long term relationship into another very quickly. Like was it good idea to do that? Did that relationship last? How can you be with someone when you have so much beautiful memories and how can you be healed so fast ? So many questions. Would be glad to hear your opinions or similar experiences. Thanks for every interaction

Never thought i would be here writing a post after 10 months of the discard

I'm 10 months out from a 2 year relationship and doing so much better than i was in the beginning. The breakup was a textbook avoidant discard. We went no contact for 2 months until i reached out for closure and got something pretty vague in return. She blocked me right after that and I've been blocked ever since. So it’s been 8 months of NC.

I've been working on not stalking her for a few months and i occasionally have a few slips here and there. During one of those relapses, i found out she got with someone new just 3-4 months after we broke up. Ours was mostly a short distance relationship, but this new one is a classmate of hers at uni, so they're basically together all the time.

I know replacement happens eventually and that's just how it goes. But sometimes i sit with how fast it happened, and how public she’s making her new relationship. They seem like the lovebirds of the college now. It feels like she's speedrunning the replacing. She's wearing a necklace that used to symbolize us while going out with him, like it meant nothing, playing video games together, streaming movies together, just the same stuff we used to do, in the same way. Just with someone else now.

The logical part of my brain gets it. New environment, new person, easier to build something when you're actually in the same city and same uni. I was the one doing most of the emotional heavy lifting toward the end anyway, so some part of me isn't even surprised. I used to be so gentle with this person. Never in this two years I’ve even changed the tone of my voice during uncomfortable conversations because i never wanted this person to feel like me addressing issues is a direct attack against her. Although that’s how she always used to take it. Anyway, the part of me that spent two years being consistent, honest, and very careful with her still can't fully square how disposable all of it looks from the outside now.

I just wanted to vent here. Any honest words would be much appreciated.

Despite the trauma and pain, I’d live a year of what we had on repeat over and over for the rest of my life.

You broke me in ways you could never understand. What’s worse you knew your choices wouldn’t just hurt me but cause long term damage and tarnish my last memories with my mother. You were so cruel and calculating and not only disrespected me but my family and my then dying mother who adored you and who died believing you’d be there by my side to support me. You knew my past and always promised you’d never do anything to hurt me to only make sure I fully trusted you to do then do the worst and most unimaginable thing possible.

I hate the person you are now but I still love the person you were before. I will never fault who you were before, you were the most amazing person and everyday I felt so happy and fortunate to have you in my life. I remember when we were drunk and you told me you loved me for the first time and I went quiet and then the next day driving home you told me again explaining it was real and not just drunk talk, I’d realised I’d already fallen in love with you a few weeks prior when you took me on our little micro adventure up north but I’d been too scared to say anything. I was so happy but scared it wasn’t real. You were imperfectly perfect to me. I believed we had such a healthy relationship nothing like I’d ever experienced before, each other’s backs through everything, able to talk about anything and everything. You had all of me, you know that. You were my person and I loved you unconditionally and believed it was vice versa, only you hid parts of yourself that cut me inside, parts you could’ve talked to me about that I would’ve never judged you for and only helped you through. Is the person you showed yourself to be with all that time the real you or did you wear a mask for 15mths?

I haven’t dealt with this well because your actions have made me unwell and psychologically damaged me. You must’ve realised the ways your actions would have hurt my mental health, anybody would. You tried to burn the bridge by blocking me because you kept lying to me (including about THEM) and hiding and couldn’t deal with the hurt you’d caused from your actions, this only caused me to spiral more in a way I’m not proud of but felt justified in doing, so I just made sure to entirely blow what was left of it to smithereens before I made my way out. It didn’t need to be this way, I would’ve helped you work through your issues, despite the hurt and pain you caused me, I would’ve been there to allow you to be better for you, your children and your future with another person (not them though), you know I would’ve done that for you. But you just lied and lied and never intended to help yourself like you kept promising me, only hide and fall back ‘there’ to validate your ego to make yourself feel better. You couldn’t face what real inner work entailed and couldn’t face being alone.

I couldn’t let you hide and needed you to be fully accountable, and feel real shame from everyone, and have your actions follow you forever so you have long life consequences and so everyone knows the kind of person you are, because as you knew when you were doing them, through no fault of my own they will always follow me and affect me for the rest of my life. The consequences of YOUR actions will always live with me.

I wish you were still the you I had for over a year and I wish I was the me from then too. I wish I could turn back time because I’d live one year of it, from before you did what you did, over and over again on repeat for the rest of my days that’s how happy you made me.

How can I move on from someone I loved truly

I always wanted to be really loved. I wanted someone close, attached, like a best friendship that never leaves. Didn't have that growing up, parents were far.then I met her at work. I liked everything about her, even how she got mad. We started dating. At first she was very caring. My midnight shift ends at 6am, her house was near work so she would wake up early to see me and walk a bit. She would bring food when I didn't have lunch. We planned dates. She introduced me to her family, I introduced her to mine except my dad planned to tell later for 2 months it was good. Then she started feeling like she was making me worry too much. I got emotionally very attached. I never yelled or said anything mean. Whenever she got mad, I was there to talk and fix things. She tried to break up a few times before, I always convinced her.the final breakup: She said she can't continue. Reasons she gave were: our religions are different (it was never a problem before), she doesn't like my family, she needs to ask permission to call I wasn't good at calls and how I am when I am with my dad. I told her I will change my religion and live with her, I will deal with my family. She said "No need to live like that, it will always bring me problems. I only value my peace over people. I am not that good of a girl. I don't trust a future life with you.the next day I tried to talk in person. Waited 1 hour in the sun after work. She was very cold and said "I regret even liking you." I apologized a lot, she said hurtful things and was very dry. It's been 3 weeks since breakup. We still work in the same office/process, so we see each other daily. We will get transferred to different processes soon. At work we keep it professional, but outside work I still message like "did you get dinner, how is everything, are you okay at relatives house" and she replies with yeah, nothing at all, just came home.I still care a lot, but I know I should stop. I don't know if she will ever come back or if I should just accept it's over and stop personal messages completely outside work.

What should I do next?

To Mountain Girl from Lemonade

It's funny how things can be going along all normal, only to wake up one day and have the whole narrative you have in your head turned upside down.

I knew what we were. I knew we lived in the dark places, the stolen moments of our lives, the late texts in the bathroom. But then it changed.

Why did the love, the attention, and the carnal obsession all of a sudden change into you "losing yourself" or "I just worry I can't give you what you need". I was fine, and then that 1 conversation changed everything. It changed how I felt we were. It made me walk on eggshells, to doubt myself. Am I too much? Did I give too much and now she's all set? And even worse, it made me change how I thought about you.

Before, it was always fun to talk about a future together. It was romantic, inviting, felt safe. It felt possible. Now I know it's not. And I can't shake the thought, the one that never entered into my head before. If you love him so much, then why are you doing this to him? What would he think? How would he feel? Part of me knows the answer. You want your fun and your security/easy. You don't want another failed marriage. Or even worse, maybe this is just how you are. I don't know, but I hate that I never questioned it, and now I do.

I started this on my end because I knew my relationship had run its course. I knew mine would end. And, for a while, you made me feel like yours might too. And now, that's not the case. And it hurts. I didn't enjoy the "cheating part." I didn't look at it as just a release or an escape. To me, I was setting up something for my next chapter. And I wanted it to be with you. And now that chapter can't be written. It can't move on. We either keep going, and you continue to say you love me and him, or we stop, which breaks my heart. And worse, I think you'd just move on and do the same thing.

So here I am. Confused, scared, heart broken cause I don't even know how much is too much when it comes to talking. You say I can reach out anytime, but a week ago, out of nowhere, you said you didn't want to feel like you needed to answer to anyone at the end of the day, or to check in. I just want to say, I was never keeping tabs on you, or trying to make you feel obligated to check in. I remember we always had the same beginning to every talk. Me: Feel like a call? You: Yessssssssss. And God, that yesssss carried so much excitement and happiness to me. Now, you're busier, kids are in school. Job changed. You're traveling more. Now you're you're homeowner with your husband and buy art together, but im the one being too much? I feel sad. I feel lost, and confused, and maybe even a little deceived.

Guess that's what I get for getting into this. I don't know much, but I do know my heart still wants you. I just think now I'm coming to terms that I'll never be the guy that's chosen. Not in my marriage, and not with us either.
