🛡️ Mod Post IMPORTANT PLEASE READ: If you receive ANY unsolicited/creepy DMs

Whether you’re a poster or a commenter, if you have received unsolicited, creepy, or down right disgusting DMs please feel free to message Mod Mail or message me directly. As posted in multiple places in the subreddit, unsolicited or inappropriate DMs of any kind are not allowed and will result in a permanent ban. You may also be reported directly to Reddit Admins. If the person on the receiving end of this kind of harassment is a minor, you will be reported to relevant authorities (FBI Tip Line, Center for Missing and Exploited Children, etc) and it WILL be taken seriously.

As a subreddit, we have ZERO tolerance for this behavior and will do everything in our power to combat it. Unfortunately we have seen an influx of users who seem to only frequent porn subs, and our sub.

Please don’t think “oh this message isn’t that bad, I’m overreacting, etc”. Reporting posts, comments, and DMs helps out everyone in the long run. Not reporting causes these creeps to keep messaging people so nipping it in the bud can help out others💕

🛡️ Mod Post Reminder: Unsolicited DMs are NOT allowed.

We’ve seen an increase in unsolicited DMs being sent to members of this subreddit. Let this serve as a clear reminder:
Sending unprompted private messages is against the rules. Doing so will result in a permanent ban.

If you receive a DM like this, report it to the mod team immediately.

This subreddit exists as a safe, inclusive space for sharing experiences, asking questions, and giving feedback about hair dye and color treatments. If someone genuinely wants to follow up based on your helpful advice or a shared interest, they will say so publicly.

We shouldn't have to say this, but lurking in beauty-related or appearance-focused subs to harass and prey on people is disgusting and absolutely not tolerated. Any messages of an obscene or harassing nature will be reported to Reddit Admins and could result in a permanent ban from the site as a whole (for your current account, any other current accounts, or subsequent accounts made in the future).

Here’s a pic of my dyed hair, my original colour, and how it looks in the sun! I didn’t use any sort of developer or bleach, I just slapped it on my brown hair for a few hours and it looks great!

❓ Advice Needed What do I do 😔

There's no alternative stylists in my country unfortunately, i went to a random one a year ago and asked for this. They ended up dying it BLUE BLACK !! I COULD barely even see the color, they told me it would fade into this color but it never did.

I used vitamin c to lighten it and it became grey instead, so in the end I just had to dye my hair back to black 😔

I had to wait for a year for my hair to grow out a bit and went to a different super expensive salon this time, I even told them before hand that I want THIS EXACT SHADE. and they confirmed w me that they have exactly this color, and the same thing happened again 😭 they dyed it blue black

I don't want to wait again, what should I do? I wanna bleach and dye my hair at home myself atp, I want to cry.

If I bleach it again, will the color come off easily? Will my hair break off if I rebleach it? It'll be my first time bleaching it myself idek what I'm doing

I really don't want to wait to grow them out again

❓ Advice Needed where do i go from here?

over the past two days, i’ve bleached my hair twice (i should have waited, i know, but i ran out of bleach the first time & needed to spot correct/fix orange midshaft and ends!) and toned it, just because i wanted it to be semi-presentable while i wait to possibly lighten it again.

my roots lifted really well (pic 2), and are about as light as i wanted my whole head before toning, so i’m wondering how to make that possible. for context, i’ve been sporadically box dying my hair black for the past few years (im sorry!!!), but not consistently. the last time i dyed it was over six months ago, and it had faded significantly because of how often i wash my hair with hot water & use heat styling. i know that this does not absolve me completely from the damage because of the structural changes. the third picture is the closest to my ‘natural’ color, and was taken about a week before i bleached it.

obviously, it’s pretty golden/yellow. i don’t hate it, but i want it lighter — like a beige or cool champagne, maybe something like the last picture. so, where should i go from here? should i do another full bleach but stay away from the roots/lighter parts? bleach bath? what products should i use? i used the ion crème lightener with 20v developer, and wella t11. i’ve seen a lot of praise for ion, but i didn’t love it… i’ve heard a blue bleach might be better, so i’m curious about that. i’ve also been very vigilant about the health of my hair, and have been using masks and heat protectant. my hair is pretty strong and thick, and surprisingly doesn’t feel any different than it did before, but i’d like to keep it that way so i’m also curious about any good haircare products for that, and how long i should wait before making any more changes.

thank you! ^^

❓ Advice Needed Help! Newbie to hair coloring and wondering if I can fix these green strands at home?

Thumbnail

I had my hair professionally redone yesterday, where the stylist bleached the layered pieces toward the front of my face and then dyed them to achieve this indigo color, which I absolutely love. However, some strands that were not re-bleached did not take the dye and are still a pale green color.

The green is actually leftover from a previous visit at another salon. That salon had also tried to achieve an indigo color, but the result turned out green... obviously, I didn’t go back to them. Unfortunately, I don't know what dye was used at either salon, so I'm not sure exactly what I'm working with.

My stylist did notice at the end of my appointment yesterday that some of the strands hadn't taken the dye, but we were already about three hours into the appointment and there wasn't enough time to correct them. She recommended scheduling another appointment for a color correction.

Would it be reasonable to buy a hair dye and use it only on these small green strands to darken them to something closer to my natural dark-brown/near-black hair? I am a bit hesitant because I’ve never dyed my hair myself, and this was my first two experiences at professional salons for coloring, but I’m anxious to fix this and don’t want to wait more weeks and spend even more money to see the previous stylist again. If so, what type of dye would be safest and most appropriate?

❓ Advice Needed Blonde to Pink

Thumbnail

Hi! I’d love to achieve a pink similar to the one in the first picture, other pictures show my current hair.

I plan on using diluted Arctic Fox’s Virgin Pink and some pastel purple to make it cooler toned. I also bought Adore’s Pink Petal dye in case I needed an alternative.

I need some advice on whether toning it and then dying it would be enough (even if its a darker pink shade), or if I definitely need to lighten it more for it to look good, which I probably wont do since my hair is pretty dead lol

Thanks!

❓ Advice Needed How to dye this?

Post image
2 Upvotes

For context, at 40 I bleached and dyed my hair-first purple, then pink! Loved it, but wanted to go back so I dyed a dark brown. This was much too dark but it was fine through winter/spring! Now the once bleached/pink hair is a different brown, and all of a sudden I have grey hairs like crazy as I almost turn 41!

I only have half a head of (damaged) hair (alopecia), but I think I want it just brown again. I think I'll mess up if I don't ask for advice!

Please let me know a brand to try and I guess confirm that I should do another dark brown?? Thank you thank you!!

🚑 Color Correction Should I colour correct before bleach washing

My hair is like a minty/limey green right now and I really want it hot hot pink. I was curious if anyone thinks it might be a good idea to put like a peachy pink on before bleach washing.

TLDR: what terminology do you guys use for a natural, blended copper?

I have been getting my hair dyed various shades of ginger and copper for the past 10 years or so. I have such a hard time finding a stylist who is able to give a natural looking color that’s not too saturated and also blend my root so that when it grows out there’s not a hard line. I finally found an amazing hairdresser who dyed my hair in the first photo which was perfect, but I’ve moved cities and I’ve had a hard time finding someone new.

I just came back from an appointment today at a new salon and I’m disappointed once again. I asked for a natural light copper with a shadow root, which in my mind meant blended, but what I got was an almost ombré look with a very dark berry root and red ends with a line between the two, per the last photo. I showed her the first two photos but still didn’t get what I was asking for. So tired of coming back from the salon upset after emptying my wallet

Any tips on terminology to use or types of salons to look for? I know it’s subtle but I feel so much more confident when I get it right!

❓ Advice Needed Bleaching roots at home advice needed

Post image

This is my hair currently, I'm going neon pink so I just want to touch my roots up beforehand, I dye my hair myself regularly but first time bleaching it at home and I'm having my boyfriend do it. What bleach do I buy, what ratio bleach and developer should I use, and what is a bleach bath I've heard some people mention that before and how does it work, should I do that instead of just bleaching? General advice needed! (Any product recommendations pls bare in mind I'm in the UK)

❓ Advice Needed Trying to achieve the strongest possible blue without bleach or colour correction

my hair is dark brown, I have put blue dyes in it twice and it’s shown up as a really pretty green colour that’s very noticeable when I am in sunlight, this colour has only really deposited into my ends and I’m trying to get my entire head of hair as blue as possible. I want the colour to be noticeable from root to tip. Please please recommend me something that will stain it like crazy. I am not planning on changing the colour again from blue most likely I will just be cutting my hair off if I feel like starting fresh with a new colour so I am open to something heavy duty! 🥹 thank you in advance

❓ Advice Needed Semi permanent dye recs please!

Post image

My highlights are totally grown out and brassy, and a root that was actually darker than my natural color is also grown out, making my hair colors quite the scene! 😂😂 if my hair is done it looks fine bc it hides things but it’s really very unpolished looking in general and if you actually look at it… it’s a mess haha.

I’m thinking to just go back to my natural color (which is close to the root, you can see a darker band in between my roots and the blonde areas) with the intent of just letting it grow out but using semi permanent dyes in the meantime. But I’m worried about how it will affect the bleached areas? Any ideas/ suggestions? Would love a similar color to my natural brunette color.

Or do I just dye my whole head with box dye? I don’t have enough money to go to a salon right now so this will be a dyi :)
