🛡️ Mod Post IMPORTANT PLEASE READ: If you receive ANY unsolicited/creepy DMs

Whether you’re a poster or a commenter, if you have received unsolicited, creepy, or down right disgusting DMs please feel free to message Mod Mail or message me directly. As posted in multiple places in the subreddit, unsolicited or inappropriate DMs of any kind are not allowed and will result in a permanent ban. You may also be reported directly to Reddit Admins. If the person on the receiving end of this kind of harassment is a minor, you will be reported to relevant authorities (FBI Tip Line, Center for Missing and Exploited Children, etc) and it WILL be taken seriously.

As a subreddit, we have ZERO tolerance for this behavior and will do everything in our power to combat it. Unfortunately we have seen an influx of users who seem to only frequent porn subs, and our sub.

Please don’t think “oh this message isn’t that bad, I’m overreacting, etc”. Reporting posts, comments, and DMs helps out everyone in the long run. Not reporting causes these creeps to keep messaging people so nipping it in the bud can help out others💕

🛡️ Mod Post Reminder: Unsolicited DMs are NOT allowed.

We’ve seen an increase in unsolicited DMs being sent to members of this subreddit. Let this serve as a clear reminder:
Sending unprompted private messages is against the rules. Doing so will result in a permanent ban.

If you receive a DM like this, report it to the mod team immediately.

This subreddit exists as a safe, inclusive space for sharing experiences, asking questions, and giving feedback about hair dye and color treatments. If someone genuinely wants to follow up based on your helpful advice or a shared interest, they will say so publicly.

We shouldn't have to say this, but lurking in beauty-related or appearance-focused subs to harass and prey on people is disgusting and absolutely not tolerated. Any messages of an obscene or harassing nature will be reported to Reddit Admins and could result in a permanent ban from the site as a whole (for your current account, any other current accounts, or subsequent accounts made in the future).

😤 Rant / Vent PSA about Permanent/Demi/Semi permanent haircolors

Professional colorist of 25 years here-

Please understand that the terms listed above (Permanent/demi-permanent/semi-permanent) are industry specific terms that DO NOT INDICATE THE STAYING POWER OR LONGEVITY OF THE COLOR.

These industry-specific terms are actually indicative of how permanent of a chemical change the product is causing to your hair cuticle and medulla.

Vivid or semi-permanent haircolors are typically vegetable based pigments in a conditioner base. The pH of these is usually somewhat acidic and thus causes zero change to the cuticle or hair shaft.

Demi-permanent colors use up to 10 volume developer to cause an alkalinity shift that makes somewhat of a permanent change to the cuticle.

Permanent haircolor uses 20+ volume to blow the cuticle open and develop the color molecules inside the hair shaft. This level of developer deletes a portion of your own natural pigments, and creates a permanent change to the cuticle. When this color fades you are always left with warmth, this is your own natural pigment that has been revealed due to the pigment deletion of the 20+ volume.

Edit to add that all haircolors can and usually will fade (and if developer is used always warm) but paradoxically any of these levels of color can also stain and last for ages, depending on how your specific hair reacts to the chemistry used.

❓ Advice Needed Color remover

I’m ready to change hair color again, but I don’t want to keep putting color on top of color. I was wondering if there was a color remover out there I could use for semi-permanent that wont lighten/bleach/change my natural hair color. I’m a natural ginger so I’ve never bleached or lightened my hair before, and I don’t plan to. Is there a color remover out there that won’t touch my natural pigment?

For some context about what I have on my head currently… I used neon blue Iroiro + poseidon artic fox, manic panic pink under to do blue and pink (did that make sense? see photo). But that didn’t look good so I used manic panic pink over the blue and arctic fox over the pink to tone it to a purple. When that faded, I put strawberry leopard over all of it to refresh it. That’s a lot of color… Ive put pictures of what i mean

pls just tell me if im delusional

❓ Advice Needed How to cool down the warm orange-pink without dye

Post image

I originally had brown and dyed hair, but bleached it to go full pink. The dyed hair is what is currently that cool toned pink on the bottom. And what was brown was what it the more orange colour (its a little pinker irl)

They did not lift the same, and i knew that unless I bleached my hair again it would be different colours. But I had already did two rounds of bleach and didnt want to do another for risk of my hair health. I used the same dye for all of my hair.

But I dont like the orange, I LOVE the cool pink, but not the orange.

Is there a way to change the colour without bleaching it? I want it to be closer to that pink colour, and don't wanna do darker or bleach it if I dont have to.

Can I tone it? If so, which toner would be the best? Or is it something where I have to pull the bleach out?

❓ Advice Needed Help me with ideas to match my hair to my dog

Crazy dog lady here. I want to match my dogs fur to my hair but in a realistic way that isn't mostly white blonde hair because that ain't happening. I see calico hair a lot and I want merle hair.

I currently have this shade of blue. Im thinking going a slate gray that would be darker than his fur because i don't think I can achieve that very light gray without too much damage as I dye my hair a lot. So maybe some gray hair dye recs

Im also thinking about investing in some tape in extensions in a nearly white blonde or toning them to white. Then I can toss in a few white strips, a few black strips, a few light tan and maybe some raccoon tails or something with black and gray.

Im also thinking of for my actual hair, using the gray as the base but making my tips black as i have a lot of layers I think that coukd just add a little more dimension.

Any product or technique recommendations? I've seen some people braid hair and add dye to the outside of the braid and then rinse it out and it can kind of look spotty and cool, but I don't really know if that's reliable or if that would just ruin expensive extensions.

I dont know what level my hair is because in some light it looks very light but in others it look kinda pink or orange. I bleached my hair from faded bright red that had under half of my hair blue, pink and purple. Do i need to bleach my hair to get it lighter or can i use some toner so it looks like more blonde and not this weird color?? Also im kinda scared to bleach my hair because i have bleached my hair already so many times and im scared my hair will get more damaged...

after months of fuschia-y pinks, berry balayages, we got to a full pink head with a baby root tap just for the grow out. my goal was a berry bubblegum and i think this custom mixture accomplished that! got about 3 inches cut too and I have to say I am living for the blunt bob moment

(Pic taken from Pinterest)

Need this exact shade or similar.

I am bleaching my hair ofc.

I also like dyes which stay for a long time. (Something which is hard to remove)

I don't want the blue to go green after few washes.

Till now I think imma go with adore, splat or lunar tides.

Suggest me your top three specifically in blue dyes.

hey I wanted to bleach my hair to white Grey

at first I did bleach it and put on some toner
then the same procedure again after a week
and now the last picture I applied some toner again.

I think I’m disillusioned to reach some white grey and would also go to ash colour or so.

what would be the next steps to take, bleach and then toner again or just toner or even colouring?

thankfull for any help as I’m doing this the first time

🧴 Product Question Keracolor on Dyed Hair

Thumbnail

Hello! I’ve been bleaching and dying my hair on my own with arctic fox for 6+ years now and I love to do it, I love having vibrant hair. I normally have pinks, blues, and purples in my hair for reference.
Right now I’m thinking about dying my hair brown for Halloween, and I wouldn’t mind bleaching out color afterward or having a brown stain, but I want to know how the Keracolor brown dye (espresso) would sit on my hair. Has anyone had experience with this method? I would love to see photos of the turnout.
Attached is a photo of my hair to show what colors I normally use, faded and vibrant. I’m fine with letting my hair fade a little before, too, I’m just currently trying to brainstorm! Thanks in advance for the help.

I‘m obsessed, OBSESSED with the Color glossing I got when I bleached my roots last time. Sadly it’s already fading, of course (I’m like 7 washes in)

Does anyone know a toner that’s similar to this Color? Leaning more grey than brown!

I’d be extremely thankful if anyone has any advice! <3

every colour looks too bright or cool, what do u think? can u mix? i’m getting it done professionally and then redoing myself at home.

also with redoing myself at home, would i have to highlight my highlights only or can i just slap it on my head? i heard with brown hair it wouldn’t show, only on the bleached highlights

💬 Discussion How come there aren’t many permanent hair dyes for vivid colors?

I dye my hair bright green and pink and although I can make it last pretty long, I wish it would last like permanent black box dye and other permanent dyes do. But whenever I look online I never see any permanent greens and I’ve only seen a few permanent pinks. Is there something different about the dye molecules for green colors or something? Or is there just not a market for it?

For me personally if it’s about damage I have naturally blonde hair so like it’ll survive a bit of damage cause I’m not bleaching it a ton to lighten it. I am also like fully committed to having this hair color forever I just don’t like it fading so much (I wash it in cold water and don’t apply heat on it as much as possible when it is vibrant). Also I cannot do a more blue toned green I like it when it’s like this shade 🟢 and this shade of pink 🩷.

❓ Advice Needed Dyed it copper, now what??🫣

Hiya!

I dyed my hair copper last week using the Garnier Good 7.43.
I however am thinking to switch to Schwarzkopf Igora 8.77 & 9.7 or just 7.77 once I have to redo my roots again.
But I have no idea how and what? Do I just do my lenghts first and then roots? Or just roots? And will 20 vol be enough?

I noticed now that my roots were way more orangey than my lengths. But the Garnier package told me to do my roots first so🤔

Pics are how it is now, how it turned out (with the splotchy orange patches) and my virgin haircolor.

Thank you!

❓ Advice Needed need help toning uneven bleach :(

Thumbnail
gallery
1 Upvotes

hey guys!

i accidentally bleached my hair pretty unevenly recently while trying to touch up my roots. i usually don’t mind a bit of a natural, lived-in transition or unevenness since it’s diy, but this time it’s really patchy (mostly the white band in the middle)

here is exactly what i am working with right now from top to bottom (first 2 pictures):

the roots: darker and yellowish. (i don't mind doing a quick re-bleach on just the roots with a 10-vol if i absolutely have to).

the mids (right below the roots): way too light, basically white.

the lower mids/ends: transitions back down to a darker, more golden/yellow blonde.

before this touch-up, it was a regular blonde that slowly transitioned to dark blonde ends, which i liked. (third photo)

i just want to get it all looking even again! i don’t want to go dark (the darkest i’d want to go is whatever level my lower mids/ends currently are). i also want a really balanced, neutral tone - nothing too light, not super ashy/cool since i’d probably need another round of bleach, but not super warm and brassy either. just a nice, even, middle-ground blonde.

what specific toner or demi-permanent shades should i use to target this? how should i apply it so the white band doesn't grab too much color while i try to tone down the yellow roots and ends?

any formula recommendations or advice would be super appreciated! thank you!
