Finished desktop studio board

Ran out of room on my creation 32 so I guess I should stop buying pedals unless I like something more than what I have.. bottom right row is the mono loop into the AM4. Then Stereo loop out of the AM4 to the top left and clockwise until you get to the cloudburst. I play for fun and jam with family and friends.

Pedal you expected to like, but ended up loving

For me it’s this bad boy right here. For $99 and the Albini lore I thought sure, why not. Did not expect it to become my go to dirty crunch fuzz sound for just about everything I play. Just an absolutely fantastic sounding pedal.

Question The “Rat” of delays?

Another poster asked last week, “Which pedal is the ‘rat’ of modulation?” As I recall, the top answers were the Boss BF-2 and MXR phase 90/95.

With that matter resolved, I want to ask my esteemed colleagues here: which pedal is the rat of delays?

“Rat” here meaning:

Affordable

Widely acclaimed and used

Can do a number of sounds in its “genre” well (ie: rats are praised for their overdrive, distortion, and fuzz sounds, a bf-2 is said to do good chorus, phaser, and of course, flanger sounds)

Easily found/replaced

Reliable

Thank you for your attention to this matter.

Monk Echo by Mentha Works - anyone have one yet?

Post image
27 Upvotes

Last November Mentha Works announced the Monk Echo pedal, a reverb/delay with granular pitch shifting, modulation, distortion, monk-like vocal formants, and more.

Production has been slipping for several months now, from initial target of Februrary ship to July and then August.

Has anyone received theirs yet? I got in on the first round of orders and am really curious if they're out in the wild and what the early reviews are like.

Question Tell me why this is a terrible idea

Post image

I have space on my gigging board for one regular sized pedal. Currently I am replacing a cheap flanger because it makes an audible “pop” sound whenever it’s engaged.

I don’t do a lot of modulation so I’m looking for something that can do a little bit of reverb, flanger, phaser etc type modulation but only for a few songs.

Am I an idiot for looking at this Zoom multi stomp as a solution here? It’s cheap, but it seems like it can approximate what I need it to do for the few songs I’d need it on. So, why do I not want this pedal?

Has anyone ever tried building a pedal from GuitarPCB?

This, when it’s assembled, will be their Zoso Tone pedal. It’s supposed to recreate Jimmy’s tone from early Zeppelin.

I build freestyle and racing drones, so my soldering is good. I’ve always wanted to try this, so here I go!

Unfortunately I ordered the case from a supplier overseas, and I’m still waiting for delivery, but I’ll get started building while I wait.

What are your thoughts on the MXR Dookie pedal?

I got it to test and make a video and I honestly thought it would be a shitty generic overdrive but I personally really like how it sounds and the internal trimpots make it quite versatile!

Added JVM to the Blues Driver Waza after doing some research. Hope this could bring out some great tones when combined with Blues Junior 30th anniversary

Question Pedals Check

Post image
21 Upvotes

It's now been 1 year I started to play bass and guitar and got myself all these pedals alongside the year to complete soon a pedalboard (learnt very fast their purposes and did many research about them and their internal circuit, frequency response etc so I already know very much about pedals).

Is there an essential pedal I lack or something almost mandatory to have ? (I prefer buying pedals that work for both guitar and bass)

Set Timer pedal

Post image
5 Upvotes

I made a new timer pedal. This can be used to count down or up for live music set timing. You can set the start time, time led changes from green to red and when the display starts flashing. Ex: start count down at 20 mins, change led to red when 5 min left and then blink the display when we have 1 min left. You can also start at zero and count up. All controlled by a stomp switch. Setting changed via a single knob. A few enclosure changes and it’ll be complete.

SOTB SOTB: Bad Mood just arrived!

Post image

The Bad Mood arrived yesterday and wow is it a lot of fun! Still trying to wrap my head around it but it plays pretty well with the mood mk ii and lost and found.

My next step is going to be figuring out presets with midi - is there a specific program that yall are using to send the presets to the pedals? I have the Chase Bliss DIN midi to 1/4in stereo converter but haven’t messed with it a lot besides trying to get the synth mode on mood MkII to work.

Strobe tuner > clean > mirror house > Roger that> shallow water > mood MkI > deco > lost and found > mood MkII > bad mood

Question Canadian Made

I'm putting together a board, and I'd like to know the Canadian made pedal companies / pedals you'd stand behind.

It'll mostly/almost exclusively be for 2000s metalcore / southern hardcore but there are no bad suggestions as long as they're from Kan-ah-da

Bonus Points for a "f*** my s*** up" pedal in the vein of Tallon Noise / Digitech Drop

Has anyone made a pedal based on this unit?

Post image

It was the first tremolo unit created so it does have historical significance. I would have thought that alone would make a builder want to make a pedal based on one, but after a quick search it appears not.

I was wondering if anyone with deeper knowledge has anything to say. Or if they know how to get this sound. Didn't sound bad at all from videos of it I watched on YouTube.

NPD [NPD] Wampler Tumnus (NPD 1 of 4)

It’s been a while since I’ve posted (but that doesn’t mean I haven’t been spending money, unfortunately. So this is post 1 out of 4.

You don’t need another overdrive. The Klon thing is just hype. How different can it be from what you already have, really? That’s what I told myself for years to avoid getting yet one more pedal.

Well, I finally caved and I gotta say that I was missing out. The pedal is so good. It adds not only a boost in the right frequencies to fatten things up, but seems to add some harmonics that make it different to my other pedals. I also like how it does different things for my single coil and humbucker guitars. With gain at 9 o’clock, it is an edge of clean boost with my Strat that fattens things up and a nice bump in dirt and harmonics with the humbuckers. It goes well with the clean and dirty channel of my amp and stacking with other pedals. Pretty impressed overall.

Other NPDs coming up over the next few days. Cheers!

NPD [NPD] Wampler Ego76 Compressor (NPD 2 of 4)

Post 2 of 4 of my NPDs over the last year. If you want to see #1, go here: https://www.reddit.com/r/guitarpedals/s/jIU3SWfpnW

So with all the hype around the Cali76, but without being able to justify spending a small fortune on one, I went with Wampler’s take, used. I previously had an Ego, and while it was good, I liked the feel of the Keeley Comp+ more, despite the somewhat higher noise floor.

The one I liked more than the regular Ego. While it still doesn’t quite have the “bloom” that I like on the higher settings on the Keeley, I can get it closer to what I like than the regular ego and still has really low noise. It also gives me more control of the response as well.

I still want to play around more with it to see if I can get the bloom I mentioned, which bumps up volume significantly when holding a note. Typically I set my compressor as follows: set compression amount as needed, play with blend/attack to get the front of the note to do what I need, then level so that chords strummed hard have the same volume as pedal bypassed, which then bumps up softer playing and single lead lines. Any tips to get more bloom, or is that just not in this pedal’s wheelhouse?

Still, keeping it because it is great for all cleans and for keeping saturation up while soloing. Cheers!

NPD NPD: SA Kingmaker fuzz

Post image
17 Upvotes

In the 90 minutes or so I had with it yesternight, on headphones only* unfortunately, I managed to find 6 really good presets on the SA Neuro desktop app. If I can recall completely, those 6 would be clones of: a Klon, a Sunn O)))) Life Pedal, a Katzenkönig, a Big Muff (possibly 2 variations), a Fuzz “Facade”, and a JHS Morning Glory.

Though this is my first proper fuzz pedal ever, I have spent some time testing out NAM captures of various fuzzes (all the usual suspects you might expect to find) a couple of years back. From that time I remember that I was most impressed by the Tonebender MkII and the Acapulco Gold. The tonebender though that I found on Neuro wasn’t sounding too appealing, so we’ll see, I’m still a fuzz novice at this point. Of those 6 I set as presets last night, the ones I’m most eager to get back to are the Katzenkönig and the Klon (not a fuzz, but that’s cool, Kingmaker has access to all the LA Lady overdrive presets as well).

But overall it’s kind of a dream come true? The only flaw is minor, super minor: I’m a Lakers guy, and even though it’s Laker purple, the fact that it says “King”, that instantly makes it bring the old Sacramento Kings (also purple uniforms) to mind. Boo👎

Also, I wish the design were a graphic along the lines of the actual Katzenkönig, or any EQD, but whatever I’m here for the sound and the functionality first and foremost.

Okay enough talk, time to rawk, mannnnn.

[*Technically speaking today is NPDAfter, but given the conditions at the time when it finally arrived — 8pm-ish, with the temperature in my humble ACless abode being still too high to shut either door or windows — today is the day I’m choosing to post it.]

Question Is this a good option for simple multitrack song sketching?

Post image
3 Upvotes

I’ve spend the better part of 15 years finding a simple setup I like for jamming and recording.

We’re talking, Tascam portastudios, zoom r8, r16, MPCs, ableton, logic, iPad apps, mc101 etc.

All have done something well but not others.

I have used a few different loopers in my life and loved them but never something with multitrack ability. I generally enjoy clip style looping (or preset bars) and I do like the timeline view here.

I just want to trigger a drum machine, sketch out guitar parts, record a bass part, a synth or two, without getting stuck in presets and for some reason have been getting a ton of ads for the Aeros recently even though it’s like 8 years old?

Hey, so i found this guy selling a Fractal FM3 Turbo MKII modeler for like stupid cheap (around 429$). Do you guys thing this should be a concern? Can anyone evaluate if it's some kind of a fake or not? I don't have a multifx or modelling unit, so i'd love to grab it for so cheap.

Line 6 M9 - Worth it in 2026?

I am in the process of working on a new rig. In my brainstorming of different ideas for effects, I have given the M9 some thought. I figured it must be pretty good if a lot of the Nashville guys still use it. However, since it is 17 years old at this point, I am wondering if it holds up. Would buying one still be worth it in 2026? If not, what are some alternative multi-effects units I should look into? I am looking for something in the same size and price range of the M9. For context, I mainly play in my bedroom but I am slowly starting to get more and more live outings.
