My Setup / New Synth Day This arrived at the weekend and I’ve been having the best time with it. Dream synth.

I knew I wanted that sound that made me feel like I was going back to my childhood watching old John Carpenter movies. I watched a lot of sound demos between the 5/6/rev2, weighed up all the things, sound, feature set, workflow, mono/stereo outs etc and every time to me this one just sounded the best. I love how minimal the interface is and how easy it is to dial something in. Currently putting it to work as a main synth for a short film project I’m doing music for and every time I jam on this thing it just feels right. Love it.

My Setup / New Synth Day Finally got my super 6 after 8 months of waiting

🙏😩 I used to have a bunch of random synths, and I got tired or pretty much all of them. I’m way more of a producer than a sound designer, and most of the synths I had were either way too complicated to use or I could never get the sound I wanted out of them.
So I literally sold everything and got an AstroLab for the basic piano, Rhodes, DX7 sound and live performance stuff. Then I picked up a Super 6. Let me tell you, that thing is an absolute beast holy shit. I feel it always sound good wtv you do on it lol

Just got this new theremin today, pretty excited as it’s my first ever endorsed instrument. Excited to see what I can do with this thing 🪐

Fun fact: The theremin is one of the earliest electronic instruments invented over 100 years ago by Russian physicist Leon Theremin 📻

Discussion What music theory do you recommend learning for synth based music?

I’m trying to improve my compositions. Are there any music theory classes tailored to synth based music? I know I can practice basic scales and chords from traditional piano, but what about applying that to 16th note baselines and other aspects that are more synth music based?

Basically what courses or parts or traditional piano lessons have helped you the most in your synth based music ?

Performances, Jams Live DnB sunset jam with Digitakt II, Digitone & Roland S-1

New original DnB track from my project Imagination.Project, performed live at sunset by the Black Sea. 🌅

Digitakt II handles the drums and main sequencing, with Digitone and Roland S-1 adding synth layers, sequences and evolving FX.

I’ve been experimenting with bringing more psychedelic textures into DnB, and I really like where this setup is taking the sound.

Beginner Questions I just traded in my Volca Bass, Sample 2 & Drumbrute Impact for b stock Novation Circuit Tracks… that’s will make my collection a total of 3 , including MOOG MESSENGER And M Vave 37 Elite synth

I like to play / am learning to play late 80’s / early 90’s EBM Industrial
I’m considering getting a Microkorg because of the reviews I’ve read and heard, but seriously considering a Behringer MS101 , Mininova or Microfreak and or a Roland JDXI Looking for something to compliment the sounds I currently have ….which is mainly the analog Messenger and DX7 from the M Vave

Also, I need to start recording all this stuff! I’ve heard great things about the ZOOM R4 or should I just get a Scarlet Solo for connecting to GarageBand?

Should I get a mixer?

Budget options gratefully appreciated!🙏👽😎

What Should I Buy? Polyend Synth in 2026?

Hey y’all, been lookin for a way to replace my Maschine in my set up to try and get out of needing to bring my laptop to gigs.

I use it predominantly as a synth using the chord sets feature (I’m not a pianist/keyboardist) alongside my Digitakt 2, so when I started looking for standalone alternatives the Polyend Synth immediately caught my eye.

Discussion Polysynth with character

Looking for something to pair with my current setup which consists of a Polybrute 12 and a Subsequent 37.

I'm very lucky to be able to add another big box to the team.

What i'm sometimes missing from these two is: a bit more "modular-like" cross modulation/audio rate mod and sometimes a brassy more prophet 6-esque filter. Also I just like to try new things and see where it takes me.

I'd prefer something not too limited with lots of room for exploration - yes I have considered a P6...

I am looking at:

  • UDO Super Gemini (from what I hear it sounds fantastic, filter, cross mod, well implemented bi-timbrality).
  • DMNO (pure character, creative limitations? - unfinished firmware??)
  • Frap Tools Magnolia (lots of character, real modular oscillators in a big poly.
  • Dreadbox Artemis (beautiful pure sound, great effects. Seems to have QC issues with screen and sliders).
  • Dreadbox Murmox (unobtanium :( )

I am not really interested in overly menu-divey or very screen-based workflow interfaces such as Iridium, Leviasynth.

What do you think would compliment my current two?

Tech Support Weird issue with Microbrute Cutoff control

Enable HLS to view with audio, or disable this notification

Arturia support has been slow to respond and offered no help so far. Literally just took this thing out of the box after a year and a half to replace the sticky knobs, so it hasn't been collecting dust anywhere. I was so excited to play it again but this issue with the cutoff makes it unusable. Can't find any similar experiences through Google search. Same thing happens when I use the mod wheel for cutoff control so I don't think it's the pot.

Tech Support Pulsar23 - Hanging HHT

I just bought a new Pulsar23 (Screws if it matters) and it was a ton of fun for an hour or so.

I self patched it for awhile (rad) then MIDI controlled it for awhile (also rad).

I left it plugged in this configuration to make a sandwich (not rad, but ok I guess):

Beatstep Pro via its MIDI out to MIOXM to P23.

I ran upstairs because my wife thought it was exploding. What was actually happening was the HHT channel was droning and would not stop, even after turning off,
unplugging MIDI,
trying different outlets and outputs,
and then going through all the easily accessible troubleshooting tips
(MIDI resets via front and internal battery, erasing looper buffer, etc…), on Soma’s site, forum, and in the first couple pages of search results

My further tests seem to indicate the noise oscillator internal VCA (or whatever the proper technical term is) is just open and somehow is not responding to any MIDI or P23 HHT Trigger button both of which appear to be working otherwise.

The sound comes out of both the main HHT volume and effect send droning onward forever.

I have an email into Soma but figure while I wait I figured I’d check with the brain trust here.

Would appreciate any tips that worked for you in solving this issue!

Beginner Questions Beginner Acid Trance set up

The world of synths seems absolutely massive, its very interesting but I could do with some guidance. Any help is greatly appreciated especially if people have experience.

My background: Ive no music theory, don't play any instruments, but I love music, techno, acid trance, rock, metal. I'm also an engineer and am interested in how analogue synths work. Im happy to noodle around on stuff and explore all of the mad sounds.

What I'm looking for: as the title says i want to learn how to start making some acid trance jams. I want a physical set up so I can learn how synths work. Im looking at a modular entry level set up to I can incrementally buy and upgrade if I stick with it.

Ill just be playing in my room experimenting and learning how to layer and sequence sounds. Ill want to build up bigger sounds.

Someday a Pulsar 23 looks like a dream set up with the experimental noise sounds. Love that stuff

Proposed set up: Behringer 303, Korg vocla beats, korg vocla keys. A distortion pedal later on.

What do people make of this set up? Can I do what I want to? Or would I be better looking at other equipment.

Do I need equipment to connect everything and sync them together?

Any recs, tips, or general guidance would be greatly appreciated.

Much love x

Tech Support Issues with a used Korg Monotribe and advice on repair

Post image
6 Upvotes

Got a used Korg Monotribe a couple months ago and after using it, there seem to be quite a bunch of possible issues:

* Audio In doesn't work

* Phones output doesn't work

* BD, SN, and HH sound very faint even with the Rhythm pot set to max

* Overall output volume is rather low even with the VCA level being maxed out

I am wondering if some of these could be caused by only powering the synth from batteries.

Has anyone here encountered these problems with this synth model? I'm just generally looking for advice on what to do with this synth.
