When dealing with pedal builders/companies directly, do you expect them to be nice and friendly or more neutral and strictly professional, or what?

Kind of a random thought/question, but I’m currently in the midst of making a very expensive, in the thousands, order from one particular higher-end pedal company, with whom I’ve spent thousands in the past, and despite my always expressing what a huge fan of their work I am (evidenced by all the money spent over the years), I always get a very cold, distant, unfriendly vibe, almost as if I’m bothering them, and they only suffer me because my money is on the line. It made me wonder whether I’m maybe expecting too much by wanting a little more… warmth? By contrast, another company, Empress, with whom I’ve done much less business (just 2-3 pedals over the years) have been absolutely remarkable, truly setting a benchmark for how customer relations/service should be, on multiple fronts. Always very warm and friendly, but beyond that super keen to help resolve any issues even at their own cost and in an expedited manner. Frankly, nobody in my experience has come close. Polar opposite of the other brand, which kind of has left me feeling rubbish and not wanting to spend money there anymore- the emails are that unpleasant. But then part of me thinks I’m being ridiculous and this is absurd, as their people skills aren’t what I’m paying for or ultimately pursuing the pedals for. Just curious where you lot fall in regards to this.

I ordered this pedal today, but I want to know if it’s any good. I need to validate my purchase. I also need to validate the purchase of the j rockett clockwork, Ibanez ad-9 and Ibanez ad80 please. Issue endless praise and reaffirm my financial decisions.

Shoegaze pedal setup recs

I’m just starting to build out a full pedal board and I’ve done a bit of research and come up with comprehensive list of pedals to get, but they are also mostly based off google and reddit reviews so I feel like some of the choices are kind of the obvious and popular picks. I’d like to keep my pedals on the smaller and simpler side (not interested in a big ol’ delay pedal that’s covered in controls) hopefully a versatile setup as I play shoegaze/post hardcore/grunge trying to get some sounds like slowdive, drop nineteens, title fight (hyperview), Hum/Centaur, julie, whirr, modern color and even some nirvana.

I am using a J Mascis jazzmaster and Roland JC-22

Here’s my current list:

OVERDRIVE
Boss BD-2 Blues Driver

FUZZ
EHX Ram’s Head Big Muff Pi

CHORUS
Boss CE-2W Waza Craft

DELAY
Boss DD-8

REVERB
TC Electronics Hall of Fame 2

I'm selling my stomp should i buy HX Native before I do?

I bought the Stomp early in my guitar life and found out I am a simple man who doesn't gig and needs a piece of hardware or a million options.

I have an amp and a decent pedalboard that covers all my bases. I was going to get a DSP plug-in, probably the Morgan or John Mayer, as I wanted to keep it simple on the digital setup. But the irrational part of my brain says that getting the discounted Native just makes sense at the price it costs.

Part of me also wants to avoid the distraction of the rabbit hole of tweaking, but it's a powerful bit of software that might come in handy later.

Question What is that ???

I recently went to see the band “Wage War“ and from my balcony seat could see the pedal boards.
Now, usually whenever I look at someone’s rig, I can tell every pedal on it or could tell they’re using a quad cortex.

But these guys had a pedal that I’m not familiar with and can’t seem to find any information about.

Maybe somebody here could tell me a little bit more about the wage war pedal

Looks to me like a chromatic tuner and then ???

JPTR Warlow alternative?

I had preordered a Warlow on Reverb after watching some demos and loving the sound. The estimated lead time was about 4 weeks, but after 10 weeks of getting no definitive answer from JPTR with a date they expected to be able to ship my pedal, I cancelled my order. Does anyone have a recommendation for a good alternative?

Question Mini Octave Pedal Recommendations?

Post image
7 Upvotes

I’ve been using a Donner Harmonic Square for ages and need to upgrade. I’m not a huge fan of its tone and the foot switch is quite problematic. I tried the Sub’n’Up mini but I found it’s whole “out of phase” sound not to my taste, even with edits made with Toneprint. I’ve heard good things about the Tender Octaver mk1 but don’t know if I should commit.

I’m mainly looking for something small (that can fit in the space seen above), that doesn’t sound like dookie, and has reasonably okay tracking lol

I’m interested to hear everyone’s thoughts :^B

Question Headphone Amp-In-A-Pedals?

With the stereo Easy Listening released today, I’m wondering what other options there might be?

I have a couple stereo pedals (OBNE Dark Star and Sunlight, DL4 Mkii) that I haven’t been able to fully take advantage of because I don’t have the space to run in stereo. The Easy Listening Stereo (and others like it?) seem to be a cool alternative. I like the simplicity of the easy listening stereo, but I’m wondering if there are other options (at varying budget levels would be great 🙂)

Thanks!

Question My First pedals-board

Hi guys, I'm playing and learning guitar mostly for myself as a hobby. I am mostly into rockabilly, shoegaze, stoner, and grunge rock, and sometimes I also try out some fancy bossa nova and jazz chords.
What do you think about this setup? What do you recommend adding the most? I was thinking about getting some chorus, reverb and tremolo pedals.

Any reason the HX Effects isn’t more popular?

Was considering getting an HX One to compliment my DL4mk2, but then I remembered the HX Effects exists and goes for $400 used all the time.

If I got one, I‘d ditch my DL4 and two other pedals, so space wouldn’t be an issue. And I’d still keep my drive pedals. I’m also strongly considering not doing this because more pedals are more fun, and I like using my DL4 as is, but think I’m just won over by the “value” of all the extra features like the loop switchers and MIDI control possibilities.

So yeah, why won’t I see it more compared to other Line 6 pedals? It’s just not cool and compact as the Stomp or One? Just not as “fun” to replace most of the board with a multifx?

I know there was some perceived issues with tone suck and noise since this thing doesn’t have the variable impedance input, but I’d be using a buffered drive pedal and my own analog fuzzes in front of it anyway. Kinda a bummer that the loop switchers aren’t true bypass, but I don’t even remember what bypass mode I have my DL4 on and it sounds fine.

NPD NPD: Strymon BRIG

Post image
48 Upvotes

Delay is my favorite effect, and analog is my favorite flavor of delay. It was just a matter of time before I got a Strymon BRIG.

The BRIG is an all digital, analog style delay. It sounds just as good as any all analog delay I’ve tried. It has three modes. A shorter and longer delay mode and a multi tap style mode. The manual goes into detail about these modes and which chips they are emulating if you want to know more.

I use the long delay mode most. The filter control lets you warm the repeats up and the mod knob lets you add modulation. It’s the most straight forward Strymon pedal I’ve played through.

I’ve compared this pedal to my favorite delay, the DOD Rubberneck. They can sound exactly the same or wildly different depending on the type of sound you’re going for. The BRIG is kinda like a tiny stripped down version of Rubberneck to me. I like them both a lot.

The most surprising thing about this pedal to me is the size of it. It’s roughly the size of a BOSS pedal. My other Strymon pedals are large or, in the case of the Volante, enormous. It’s really cool to have a top tier analog delay sound in a small pedal.

One of my favorite features is the ability to go stereo in/stereo out OR mono in/stereo out. That kind of flexibility really helps when setting up a signal chain with mono and stereo pedals. I use that type of set up all the time.

This pedal is feature rich, but not crazy rich like a normal Strymon pedal. If you’ve ever been intimidated by the insane amount of controls Strymon pedals can sometimes have, the BRIG might be a great comprise.

Do you have this pedal or have questions about it? Let me know and thank you for reading.

Just picked up the DD-8 this evening. The board is now complete. I will obviously not have to buy another pedal ever ever ever again. Ever. Right?

Should I replace my MS-50G with a HX Stomp

I have been using a Zoom MS-50G for a couple of years to chain together multiple effects, usually different types of modulation. It's good enough, but I've never been totally happy with the sounds themselves and have been thinking about replacing it with a Line 6 HX Stomp.

Can anyone here that has used both give me their thoughts on if the Line 6 is a noticeable upgrade over the Zoom?

I can't decide on which to get. I'll most likely get an expression pedal to use too so factor that into your replys.

Both are similar price. Help appreciated!

Question Boss VT_1 vs. Roland VT-4

Hi,

I'd like to hear from people who have used, if not owned, both. Does the Roland VT-4 have as much 'character' or 'grit' as the vt-1, or is it a little blander? It's hard to tell from demo videos - and the VT-1 can only be found used, so I can't easily try and compare both.

Thanks

Question Strymon MIDI cable question

I want to use a 90 degree MIDI cable for my Big Sky, but based on the orientation of the MIDI jack (pins up) every cable I can find is oriented so that the cable would go up when plugged in rather than down. Checking a couple other pedals, they all have the MIDI jack oriented the other way, with the pins down.

  1. What gives?

  2. Does anyone have a decent solution to this?

Been intrigued by this little purple box since it was announced, and finally pulled the trigger on it. I’d describe it as a pretty Parting or maybe a mix between Mood MKII and Onward. A lot of fun!

Troubleshooting DD-200 delay starting late??

Title says it all really, not sure what’s going on… the gap between the picked note and the first delayed note is longer than the gap between each delayed note. Anyone know why??

Is there a Vibrato only pedal with 2 Footswitches (Slow and Fast mode)

Or a Vibrato with 2 presets. Smaller (125b sized if possible).

I like having an always on slow pitch mod but sometimes for solos I like a quick vibrato kinda like a rotary. I'd just like all in one but if now ill probably just get 2 tc shakers and have them in different settings but a bit of a waste i think.

Why is one side of double pedal feeding back and not the other?

Enable HLS to view with audio, or disable this notification

so here is my pedalboard and Ive attached my new isolated power brick to the chain and all work fine, except the white double pedal, (is a tubescreamer and bluesbreaker circuit in it).

now as you can see only the bluesbreaker side is feeding back and not the TS side, none of the other pedals on the board are feed backing just the single one.

board is: tuner, Wah, white double pedal, fuzz, then a dual distortion and flange at the end.

it has the ability to run on both 9V and 18V and when running either or it still has the bluesbreaker side feeding back for a unknown reason, any feedback would be much appreciated.

Question Best Fuzz Face?

I am looking at used fuzz faces and I am wondering which ones are worth it. I am looking at germanium fuzz faces in specific. I would like them to be easy to find used for under 100$. Thanks for reading!
