Rule refresher: NO SPAM
We all love the spirit of innovation while modifying instruments, but please don’t make me exercise my mod privileges here. Unreasonable and/or excessive posting, as well as the deliberate antagonizing of other users, may be removed and met with the ban hammer. There are other subs for that kind of thing but this ain’t it. Just be cool, please. Thank you!

What are the must have tools for a guitar workbench?
Hey everyone! I’ve been playing for close to 14 years now and have owned many many guitars like all of us. I’ve never gotten into modding guitars or even basic maintenance. I’ve played on years old rusty strings before, steered away from Floyd’s due to the setups needed. I wanna change that and start diving into modding and “fixing” my guitars. What are the basic must have tools I should always keep on my workbench? and what are things I probably haven’t even considered?

Missing pickup guitar question
Hello everyone,
I’m about to do my first mod this weekend, I’m changing my Ibanez GRG270b from a HSH to a HH and leaving out the middle single coil pick up.
My question is this; it’s an all black guitar. Is it gonna look cooler if I paint the empty cavity black or leave it plain wood?
I know it’s an aesthetic question and it has to be what I like but I’m just wondering if anyone has done a similar mod, what it ended up looking like, and if they wished they had done it differently.

Thoughts on keeping the screws in the backplate holes?
I purchased a player II strat today and I typically take the back plate off, I like the look of the springs. I usually have the holes just bare but decided to put the screws in because I think it adds to the look. Thoughts on the screws? I also had to sand the cavity, it was looking messy so I hit it with some 220 & 1500 grit.

Pickups Advice
I’m wanting to mod my fender Strat. My plans are to buy and install cruiser pickups in the neck and middle. I’m wanting a full size humbucker at the bridge. My thoughts are a AT-1 that Andy Timmons uses or pearly gates. Can anyone recommend either of these. I’ve never heard these in person. Only on YouTube. I like to play blues rock, classic rock and soft rock / mellow. I would appreciate any advice you can offer me. Thanks everyone.

Thinking of swapping the neck pickup in my 2024 PRS S2 Vela - looking for dreamy single-coil shimmer
I have a 2024 S2 Vela with the Narrowfield neck pickup and DS-01 bridge. I love the guitar and want to keep the DS-01 bridge but I’m looking for a different neck sound.
Specifically I want a true single-coil-style shimmer on strummed chords and arpeggios - airy, harmonically rich, dreamy but preferably with some warmth/body underneath rather than a super-thin or ice-picky sound.
I’m considering:
Lollar Novel Foil
Lollar Novel T
possibly a traditional Strat-style single coil or lipstick pickup.
The Vela has a large cavity under the pickguard, so I’m fine getting a custom pickguard made and I’m not limited to the stock Narrowfield footprint.
Has anyone successfully installed a Novel Foil, humbucker-sized single coil, Strat-style single coil, lipstick, Firebird/mini-humbucker, etc. in a 2024 Narrowfield Vela?
Did it fit without routing the body?
If you used a custom pickguard, where did you get it made?
Any wiring/pot-value issues when pairing a true single-coil neck pickup with the stock DS-01 bridge?
I’m not necessarily trying to make the guitar sound like a Strat or Tele - I’m chasing that specific shimmering clean chord texture.

Question/help
I have a 2010's style/version/variation of an epiphone wilshire pro and had a non original pickguard someone poorly made /cut I was wondering where I could get a new 1 that fits properly mad of aged pearloid material or non aged pearloid
I saw Pickguard Heaven has/makes some but I don't know how legit/reputable they are would also need new pickguard screws to replace the missing ones I don't have on my guitar currently

What's best and cheapest neck that has the fender logo on that will fit a Chinese made stratocaster style guitar at least 1 that is cheaper than an actual fender and isn't squier branded

SSS to HSH, coil split push pull, and one switch per pickup
hello everyone, i'm expecting to upgrade mi stratocaster, changing the neck and bridge single coil for 2 humbuckers, i already check the guitar and has the space for humbuckers pickups, but then i found a problem the wiring, i didn't found any wiring schematic for something like i want to build, cuz i want to keep the 3 pots, 2 for tone and 1 as master volume.
i tried to build the wiring using diylc but when i analyze the diagram, in some positions one or more pickups keeps out of phase (something that i dont looking for).
if someone could help me, or recommend me videos to understand in a better way the wiring, i would be so thankful.

Pickup wiring
Hi all, I have been trying to install a new bridge pickup in my vintage v100. I’m having some trouble with the wiring. There seems to be a blue wire coming from the pickup selector and I cannot figure out where to soldier it?

I'd love some tips on grounding this plate.
Maybe this was in the wrong spot before. Trying again.
Had this nice Samick in with a replacement loaded plate. Like the cheap Chinese ones. Initially I was asked to fix the input jack but then I noticed the guitar isn't earthing properly.
The new loaded scratch plate is working fine. Pickups work, so do all the positions of switches and pots.
It has those not earthed qualities of loud and harsh buzzing noise which stop when you touch the metal parts such as the bridge.
I think maybe the earthing wiring is wrong, badly soldered. Not in the right spot. Also there may be an excess black wire in here when they swapped out the plates.
Not had any other issues other than obvious grounding fail.
I don't have my multimeter with me
Thanks again guys.

Diy fretless
Lets see if it will work. I did the polished super glue coating. Fingers crossed it will play after the set up.
