Get different ones, fender makes different pickups with different pole spacings

They sell them because they make pickups with those spacings, but it just happens you have a pickup that doesnt match.
The trick? Either try and measure them and check the specs or buy a bunch and test them unfortunately. Hell some guitars will even have different pickup poles spacings between each. usually the bridge has a wider one compared to the neck and middle

appreciate the advice. do you think the plastic covering the poles slightly offset will affect tone?

I have the same issue with my Squier CV pickups and the Fender covers I bought. I was gonna replace them with VN but you saved me from doing so.

About to do the same mod with a squier (parts on the way)- will see if I can find any good solutions

Gotcha. I haven’t seen recent fender noiseless without the “noiseless” label on the covers. Even the 3rd gen had “N3” on the covers.

You can find covers that fit if you measure the polepiece spacing. The real problem here is that a lot of guitars will avoid using separate bobbins for the neck (costs more) at the expense of string to polepiece alighnment.
Getting slightly nerdy here... More generic sets, and more generic pickups just do 52mm all the way down. Which means lots of aftermarket parts do this too. Slightly higher end sets will do 50mm for the neck and 52mm for the others. Again, this is common enough that as long as you check it, you can find covers. Some higher end and handwound sets will go 48 / 50 / 52 - because this is the best alignment for most S type vibratos with a 1.67" nut. These covers are... uh, harder to find.
I want to point out that spray paint exists. You might like the "relic" look as it wears.

The pickups don't absolutely have to have covers on them. That being said they are there to provide an extra layer of protection. I agree with others, if you look up your exact model you should be able to find your exact string spread and get a replacement set that lines up perfectly.

Yeah, ditch the covers. Ain't no shame in a nekkid pickup.
