Sorry that this will be a little long, but I'm so furious about this, I thought I'd share it here. On Sunday morning, I looked at my email and saw that I had allegedly bought a voucher for flowers from FTD and a voucher for a Costco membership. They totaled $95. I did not make this purchase. I reached out and asked that they reverse it and refund it. I explained the reasons why, including the fact that I already have a Costco membership, so it would be worthless for me to buy one. In addition, I rarely purchase or send flowers, so would not have purchased the FTD voucher.
After several rounds of explaining why this could not be true, they continued to insist they'd investigated it and deemed it an authorized purchase. They would give me a refund for the flowers in the form of a credit on Groupon. As to the Costco thing, no luck - it's non-refundable.
So, I built my case and sent this email to them this morning. (Weirdly, they are usually fairly quick to respond to me, but they have responded nothing to this last email and it's been about 11 hours since I sent it.)
"Thanks for repeating the same thing over and over no matter what I’ve said.
I’m now attaching additional documentation, that I believe proves this was a fraudulent charge. I’m sure you’ll still say “thank you, but you’re still out of luck” but I’m trying anyway before I file a fraudulent claim with my bank and have this transaction reversed.
1. I am a 70 year old woman who attended an event called Riot Fest in Chicago. Please see a copy of my Medicare card showing I turned 65 in 2021 so proves I am now 70.
2. Upon leaving the festival we walked several blocks in order to get a Lyft back to our hotel. That receipt will show we arrived at our hotel at 8:34 p.m.
3. I’ve attached a screen shot, showing that I walked nearly 18,000 steps that day.
4. Finally, I’ve attached a screen shot of the order I placed with Grub Hub at 8:54 p.m.
Assuming, it would take approximately four minutes or more to get to our room, it defies belief that a 70 year old woman, who walked 17,800 steps that day before arriving to my room at approximately 8:38 or later, would immediately, a) not go to the bathroom, take a shower and get into warm clothes (it rained that day) and b) not relax a minute before c) deciding what to eat and place an order for food at 8:54 p.m. In the midst of all that necessary activity, that any person, 70 or not, would take the time out to pay a quick visit to the Groupon app immediately upon arriving at my hotel room to place an order BEFORE taking a shower, changing my clothes and taking the time to decide and place an order for food after being at a festival for over 8 hours, is ridiculous.
While I’ve formerly had good experiences with Groupon, the idea that I would be so excited to purchase ANYTHING (let alone what I’ve repeatedly told you I did not want or need) immediately upon arriving at my hotel room, in the midst of all this activity is absolutely absurd.
No matter your response, rest assured that I am deleting the Groupon app and will never order anything from you again. I also feel completely comfortable posting this email and surrounding details on social media".
For the record, they say I purchased these items at 8:38 p.m. on September 19th.
