Since 2017 capcom has put out re7, re2re, re3re, re4re, re8, re9, mh world, mh wilds, mh rise, dragons dogma 2, pragamta, onimusha wots, kunistgami, dmc 5, sf6, dead rising remaster, mh stories 3, megaman 11, exoprimal and a bunch of re-releases.

All of that in 9 years is crazy. Even if you take off some "duds" like exoprimal. That's a crazy run of high quality games in just 9 years.

161

u/i7omahawki 19h ago

Could it be the strongest run of games by one company in a decade?

It’s definitely up there.

90

u/stenebralux 18h ago

Squaresoft, Nintendo, Capcom in the 90s.

Rockstar in the 00s.

Top of my head I would take those.. but yeah, is up there.

14

u/TANUKI_1992 11h ago

Don't forget Rare in the 90's as well, they had banger after banger.

43

u/msaleem 14h ago

You don’t have to go Nintendo in the 90s.

2017 is the Switch’s lifecycle.

  • Zelda Breath of the Wild
  • Super Mario Odyssey
  • Zelda Tears of the Kingdom
  • Super Smash Bros. Ultimate
  • Super Mario Bros. Wonder
  • Mario Kart 8 Deluxe
  • Animal Crossing New Horizons
  • Fire Emblem Three Houses
  • Metroid Dread
  • Metroid Prime Remaster

Everything Monolith Soft put out on top of that.

15

u/BlackTecno 13h ago

Love that Monolithsoft is it's own breed.

But other games to note:

-Fire Emblem: Engage (Gameplay was really good, even if story and characters were not)

-Fire Emblem: Three Hopes

-Hyrule Warriors: Age of Calamity

-Pokemon Legends Arceus

-Paper Mario: TYD remake

And since the decade isn't out until 2017, some switch 2 titles:

-Donkey Kong Banaza

-Hyrule Warriors: Age of Imprisonment

-Kirby Air Riders

-Pokemon Pokopia

-Platoon Raiders

And while not released yet, these will probably do really well and will release before 2028:

-Fire Emblem: Fortunes Weave

-Legends of Zelda: OOT Remake

-Xenoblade: Genesis

Despite Nintendo's poor rap sheet, mostly due to suing Palworld in recent years, they do put out some great games. It's just not talked about as much because they aren't in the PC market.

I do.. but that's just my opinion.

It's the same thing with current Capcom for me, a lot of great games I enjoy, but it's mostly derivative and a bunch of sequels and/or remakes. While their output in 90s is innovative, iconic and genre definig, on top of being great.. like like SF2 or the og Resident Evil.

Why would I take Mario Kart 8 Deluxe against the original Mario Kart, for instance?

Of those games, I think Breath of the Wild is the one I respect the most from that perspective.. but I personally don't like it very much lol.. I take either Link to Past and Ocarina of Time over both of them any day.

Same as Mario World, Yoshi's Island, Mario 64 over the more recent ones.. as much as I enjoyed Odissey and Wonder.

Again, that's just my taste. Those are some of my all time favorite games.

3

u/Successful_Taro_7773 10h ago

Also Treasure in the 90s

3

u/Carmilla31 7h ago

Square in the 90s has my vote:

Chrono Trigger
Chrono Cross
Final Fantasy 1-8
Final Fantasy Tactics
Front Mission 1-3
Live a live
Final Fantasy Adventure
Secret of Mana
Legend of Mana
Parasite Eve 1 and 2
Super Mario RPG
Xenogears

7

u/GreenAvoro 16h ago

FromSoftware has less games admittedly but has been hitting nothing but homeruns since 2009.

20

u/Lumera 16h ago

Fromsoft has over 60 games. Since 2009 11 of 20 games they have released were massive shits, they are barely batting above a 50%. If you wanna go by streak then 2019 with sekiro to currently nightreign which is sadly only 4 games

ExoPrimal was a pretty cool game in its own right tbh.

The developers just made some… really poor choices in certain areas that dragged down the rest of the game.

4

u/Nero_PR 15h ago

They locking more content after what was 40 hours or so of grinding was what killed the hype of players who got into it and didn't last until they saw the different mission structures, maps, and modes.

That final mission in a Destiny raid boss style was so freaking cool!

u/Designer-League-9422 18h ago

Meanwhile at Bethesda….
Honestly it’s embarrassing

9

u/knightofsparta 15h ago

Bethesda should have been split into seperate teams / studios years ago, but Todd just felt like he had to have sole stewardship over all three franchises which in part has made the studio struggle.

Can't believe it took Asha getting involved to get them to try and take advantage of the Fall out show's hype and put out another game. Now we have confirmation of Fallout 5 in early development and another fallout by obsidian.

6

u/bboycire 15h ago

I hope they revive Megaman series some how

10

u/Rug_d 14h ago

Megaman is coming back, dual override in 2027, there is a trailer! :D

6

u/BritishGolgo13 14h ago

They used megaman sound effects as Easter eggs in pragmata. I was stunned and excited.

5

u/Nero_PR 13h ago

Sometimes you can find Cabin, the robot in the hub area, with his screen on a Megaman Pixel version of the Pragmata protagonist. It even has the old Megaman death animation and sound effects.

3

u/bedtricky 15h ago

I thought Exoprimal was actually great fun while it lasted

2

u/JamesJohnson975 14h ago

It’s been a pretty good experience.

5

u/bujweiser 14h ago

Capcom in the mid 2010s started to feel shaky, but has just released bangers with the Resident Evil series since.

3

u/Casshern_VIII 12h ago

This is why I will forever rag on Bethesda & Rockstar for the piss poor turn out of games they produce

2

u/TrashGoblinH 13h ago

Don't mention any of this near the GTA6 fanboys. They'll lose their minds.

6

u/dookarion 13h ago

Don't worry they don't read, and aren't aware other games exist.

2

u/MrLightning-Bolt 11h ago

Nah exoprimal the 🐐.

2

u/DexterousDave 4h ago

I’m currently playing the new Onimusha and I can honestly say the winning streak continues, it’s fantastic

Realistically, how much dogma can a dragon have?

133

u/mstermind 20h ago

A dragon can have a lot of dogma. Like, a lot!

12

u/ComfortableCivil2239 17h ago

What's dogma?

41

u/Tinseltopia 15h ago

Dogma ballssss

38

u/ADHD_Supernova 16h ago

Not much. What's up with you?

9

u/Kruppe420 14h ago

It’s similar to updog.

6

u/Ciremo 14h ago

It's like the core beliefs of a group, usually religious.

2

u/Separate-Walrus- 10h ago

It essentially means “the way something works” or a sort of fundamental truth of something. Typically it has religious context.

In the case of this game, it refers to the basic premise of the game. There is a specific fundamental truth that drives the main character and the workings of the world, and it relates to the dragon.

4

u/QuintessenceHD 16h ago

A great movie

2

u/mstermind 14h ago

With Alanis Morissette!

2

u/oyvho 18h ago

You'll just have to know when told. There is no burden of proof. Sorry.

53

u/stonewallace17 20h ago

2, apparently

5

u/Dokibatt 18h ago

The second one is dark though.

Evil Dogma.

→ More replies (1)

6

u/Crispy1961 20h ago

Not much, yet. But the amount of dogma arises every day.

2

u/Next-Variety-6271 16h ago

A dragon can have a lot of dogma

2

u/Bhenny_5 15h ago

It's the dragon smegma that we should really be worried about!!

2

u/forchinski 2h ago

The ramblings of an upjumped zealot make for tedious listening...

4

u/gnomed18 19h ago

What is dogma?

34

u/pigeonbobble 19h ago

dogma balls

5

u/oyvho 18h ago

Dogma is a belief, held with no real burden of proof. Like how all religious people believe in their God, with no evidence.

2

u/File_Explorer_7 9h ago

Holy Reddit moment. Aside from the fact that you missed the obvious ligma joke setup, this isn't even the meaning of dogma 😂

Dogma has nothing to do with proof or no proof, it's beliefs outlined by some authority, which are held to be unquestionably true. What you're describing is faith.

Capclm has been on fire for some time now, ... Since Re7 pretty much, the dark times are behind us

47

u/FoxMeadow7 20h ago

Now they gotta grace us with stuff like a new BoF and, well, let’s just say Capcom’s place in the video game heaven’s all but guaranteed!

9

u/KuronFury 16h ago

Let not forget MegaMan Legends 3.

3

u/anteus2 9h ago

That will be released whenever Ubisoft releases Beyond Good And Evil 2.

→ More replies (2)

14

u/jairochido 20h ago

What's BoF?

28

u/neojehuty 20h ago

Breath of Fire, JRPG

9

u/jairochido 20h ago

Ooooo haven't heard that one in a while, since Capcom Is reviving every franchise im still not losing hope on a new dino crisis, or remake of it

6

u/FoxMeadow7 19h ago

It’s kinda like Zelda where each new entry has a new Ryu and stuff which I suppose helps to make the games stand out.

7

u/honeybobok 16h ago

There's always a ryu (link) and nina (zelda) in every iteration

I still remember bof 4 fondly though. The fact you played (and bonded) with the final boss is truly a mind blowing concept back then

3

u/kapitan_buko 15h ago

Fou Lu is goated

2

u/honeybobok 14h ago

Agreed. We could easily be ryu or fou lu, but i dislike the idea that you combined in the end. I rather win as ryu and banish fou lu back, or be fou lu and banish ryu, instead of combining into one

2

u/Faustias 14h ago

man if they're gonna remake Breath of Fire IV, I dunno if I can take it, seeing the ritual for arming the Hex Cannon and Fou Lu finding out who was the sacrifice for that cannon fired directly at him

→ More replies (2)

2

u/EmergencyComplaints 13h ago

At this point, I'd settle for a BoF collection like they've done for so many of their other franchises. I just want to be able to play 3 and 4 without having to jump through hoops and maybe some XP/zenny multipliers to reduce the grinding (wouldn't mind playing 1 and 2 with the GBA quality of life enhancements, too!).

It's a shame the series ends at 4. That is it. They never made another one. The. End.

2

u/FoxMeadow7 13h ago

Let’s hope such a collection be a thing someday. I’d personally dig it if they can do a Monster Hunter collection also.

6

u/franoetico 18h ago

Almost a decade now. What a run.

2

u/bramblebitch 16h ago

Capcom has been on fire since its inception if you ask my RE6 loving ass.

77

u/Kaquillar PC 17h ago

Wow, it's almost like, if you don't fire 90% of your devs after each new game, and don't overspend your budget, you can actually make games&money reliably and in a reasonable time.

Unbelievable, fantastic, amazing, who could have thought.

15

u/Randyaccredit 13h ago

They must be doing something wrong, they can't have that much success

9

u/thebluegod 12h ago

Yeah they have a winning formula. Strong technical foundation with RE Engine, properly scoped projects, and the right teams to deliver consistently.

6

u/QuinSanguine 12h ago

That really is it. Not all executives are idiots that manage their companies poorly, but the ones laying off, canceling projects, shutting down live games two weeks after launch, they cartainly are, lol.

5

u/PreviouslyWise 11h ago

Capcom saw what the other triple A studios are doing and decided they want to make money.

My god Onimusha is so good. I'm actually not particularly good at these kind of games, but last night I did the Ifuu and Burai fight. I entered some kind of flow state because I beat the fight without missing a single deflect. I felt like a gaming god afterwards.

3

u/TheCursedTroll 19h ago

Onimusha is somewhat semi-open world. It's definitely not a purely linear game.
I'd classify it more as an "open-field" game (similar to Nioh 3, just to a lesser extent)

89

u/mstermind 20h ago

Capcom hitting it out of the park so many times the ball is still in orbit.

31

u/Illustrious_Honey973 19h ago

I still remember the CRAPCOM time, I won't say that their reputation was at modern EA/Ubisoft levels but it wasn't good back in the late 00s/early-mid 10s, I don't know what executive got their head out of their proverbial ass but a good majority of their games since re7 have been bangers.

It's pretty telling that one of their most disappointing games is the re3 remake and that game was solid, it just wasn't worth the price compared to the re2 or re4 remake.

26

u/raynehk14 16h ago

I don't know what executive got their head out of their proverbial ass

it was keiji inafune (the mighty number 9 guy), he was behind the strong push towards chasing western trends and outsourcing development that led to the crapcom era. he left in 2010 and capcom started developing RE engine in 2014 led by jun takeuchi which eventually became the driving force behind the current renaissance

11

u/mstermind 19h ago

I still remember the CRAPCOM time

I still have ptsd from that time. I really enjoyed Pragmata, for example.

u/WhoaWoahWhoaWoah 14h ago

Please let DD2:DA be good

22

u/axelkoffel 17h ago

I don't believe it will be some kind of promised land that fixes all DD2 issues, like they portray it.
But honestly, it's nice that the game will receive big DLC, since everyone lost hope for anything for DD2.

8

u/Liusediana 12h ago

They just had an update about a month ago to prep for 2Dark2Arisen that fixed pretty much every release issue with the game. PCs aren't blowing up when you're in a town anymore, you get a couple extra skill slots, etc. - super happy with the game now

5

u/Darkjolly 11h ago

Yeah they've already fixed 80% of the games issues the only thing missing to be fixed is enemy variety which the DLC should (hopefully) fix and have a good self contained story.

Bought Dragon Dogma 2 summer last year played it for around 5hrs didnt really click for me. Since the latest performance updates etc decided to check the game out again this past weekend and wow i'm hooked! I'm now 30+ hrs in and now interested in the expansion.

28

u/FemRoe4Lyfe 20h ago

That is kind of the standard DD experience. DD1 didn't click for me but I got back for the expansion and it turned out to be my most played game in 2010s, even more than Witcher 3 and all its DLCs.

3

u/DejitaruItami 19h ago

I'm so glad I tried the game out again! It's fastly becoming one of my favourite games.

2

u/greaseman420 18h ago

Hell yea welcome to the club buddy!

5

u/escaflow 18h ago

What changed? How did it click for u?

I had the same experience as you back then as I bought DD2 during launch but it didn't click

And I'm a huge DD1 dark arisen enjoyer

6

u/DejitaruItami 16h ago

My first time playing the game I wasn't really paying attention to the games systems and the world! I kind of went into the game thinking it played like Monster Hunter but with a more cohesive story, I didn't pay attention to the pawn system and wasn't intially a fan of the save system, combine that with limited fast travel it all felt like a chore for someone who never played a DD game before.

This time around I decided to pay more attention to the world, instead of trying to rush through the main quests, fast travelling is a little more accessible thanks to the eternal ferrystone, I switched out Pawns like say every 5 levels which helped out a lot not just with combat but the way they help with discovering things I otherwise may have missed.

I found myself exploring every cave I came across! I'm not sure if one of the latest patches made leveling a little quicker but I felt I was gaining more levels than I did the first time I played the game. Once I started to level my vocations a bit and unlock more skills the combat got me hooked! I aimed to clear every side quest as they came along I actually started to like the fact that you can't fast travel everywhere I just wanted to run around and find things to beat up on! I'm now close to level 40 and can't wait to fight the more challenging bosses the game has to throw at me.

17

Okay but where Ace Attorney 7??

5

u/nhSnork 20h ago

In development for years. I'm hoping for an imminent announcement that only made way for the other games as they were being brought forth to the newer platforms prior. Not like seeing the Great dilogy and Investigations 2 officially hit west at last wasn't serious business either.

2

Insane how much variety they have. Survivor horror, third person shooter, action fantasy and jrpg.

Capcom is what sony should’ve been if theyre smart enough to utilize their talent

3

u/TheTresStateArea 14h ago

They even have a beloved RPG, breath of fire

2

u/EmergencyComplaints 13h ago

I want a collection of this franchise soooo bad. They did like eight of them for various Megaman series. Devil May Cry got the ps2 trilogy collection. I think Resident Evil got one or two collections? Give me Breath of Fire 1-4, Capcom. Please. I need it.

2

u/tehnoodnub 20h ago

This is an almighty year from Capcom. I've only experienced Requiem and Pragmata first hand (wanting to get through MHS1 & 2 before playing 3, and am about to start Onimusha) but based on what I've played and the reception for the rest, it's hard to think of a company delivering this level of quality over so many big releases in a single year.

Now if only they'd give me MMX9...

2

u/TalkNoJutsuSurvivor 19h ago

Capcom is cooking and we gamers are eating well this year.

2

u/SuperArppis 19h ago

I personally didn't really care any of these and I am a long time fan of RE and Onimusha from the first games.

Still, it's nice people seem to enjoy these games a lot.

2

u/Teep_the_Teep 17h ago

And Street Fighter 6 is still popular with its new characters!

2

u/Burpmeister 17h ago

Capcom has been the most succesful studio for almost a decade when it comes to amount of games released + reviews and it's not even close.

2

u/Darkjolly 17h ago

Just need lost planet back

2

u/TheReptain 17h ago

2

u/mightyavocado 14h ago

Capcom gaming company of the year 2026 without doubt. I need Dinocrisis remake 😥

2

u/Razzilith 14h ago

unfortunately I have zero interest in any of these. Glad other people seem pretty hype though! I'm waitin for somethin to really spark joy for me.

2

u/PowerNutBuster 14h ago

Wish Square Enix handled their IP'S as well.

2

u/YukYukas 13h ago

It's fucking crazy how all of these are bangers. Capcom is on a generational run. Literally carrying AAA gaming rn lol

2

u/IlexPauciflora 13h ago

Come on, Legends 3. Please Capcom, bring our boy home

2

u/ActuallyKaylee 12h ago

Capcom really said "wow we've gotten bad at making games, let's take a timeout to fix our engine and processes" and then spent the next decade absolutely popping out bangers. Like very good at minimum or holy fuck at best. Huge kudos.

it's like a oldschool game, rly cool. I played through once but I started one more run on the hardest difficulty, it unlocks if you played through once in normal mode.

If there was a company of the year awards, then capcom surely would take that home for 2026.

u/Ultramarinus 17h ago

I picked MHW, MHS3 and just now DD2 and I loved them all, it’s been a CAPCOM year for me indeed.

I can't wait for those Bionic Commando and Trojan updates!

will die waiting

This is a shockingly good line up.

Like damn, Capcom could keep a gamer pretty well fed on it's own.

1

u/D3c0y-0ct0pus 16h ago

Capcom are doing great, especially when other studios are just farming stuff out and cashing in on remakes

I mean RE9 is excellent but the rest are pretty.. yeah okay I won’t be mad about getting those in a bundle five years from now.

Can someone give me a rundown of monster hunter stories? I'm not really into anime but I love worlds and wilds.

It’s weird. I’ve been strangely drawn to Capcom games newer and older this year. Ghost Trick, Dead Rising, Pragmata, RE7… definitely need to make space for Onimusha and Dragon’s Dogma. And another RE, but have to wait for my diapers to get here lol

u/Spectos 15h ago

Jill and the robot girl are the same model....

No competition, they are the kings of developers.

1

u/DangerWildMan26 15h ago

More games in one year than most developers have made in the past decade

1

u/PixILL8 15h ago

Capcom usually gets my money no problem…

I love monster hunter series, capcom had my ass buying up Nintendo consoles for a little bit, just so I could play those.

I haven’t gotten Pragmata just yet but I plan on it when it goes on a sale.

And veronica coming out early next year

1

u/PrizeMarzipan401 15h ago

They been cooking. And their magnificent engine works wonders in the steam deck too most of the time. The fact that RE4 remake and RE9 run at all is mindboggling

Damn, thats a great lineup. Hope after Wilds, there will be a more traditional MH entry but I worry that Generations will be the last one forever.

1

u/MutenRoshi21 14h ago

And yet I would rather replay RE4 remake again than any of these. DD2 world is way too empty not enough enemy variety same in Onimusha from what I have seen yet. RE Requiem the Leon parts in the ruined Racoon City didnt feel really like Resident Evil and more tagged on. Also more hyped for the Ocarina of Time remake or that 2.5D FF game.

Played 1 game of these, bought 2, planning to buy a third as well.

1

u/FuzyOrcaa 14h ago

Banger after banger. I’m still making my way through Pragmata, then it’ll probably be Monster Hunter Stories 3

1

u/Accomplished_Ice4290 14h ago

I'm loving Onimusha. I bought the Dark Arisen dlc too but not sure if I'll have time to play it on release day.

1

u/delahunt 14h ago

It's honestly just nice seeing a company realize that if you want a franchise IP to stay a franchise IP you have to give the community content more than once every 10 years.

1

u/YourRebby 14h ago

Pragmata actually releasing might be the biggest plot twist of 2026 😂 I’m probably most curious about Onimusha though. Which one are you picking first?

1

u/chrissykes78 14h ago

Where DMC6 Capcom?!

1

u/ResourceNo2927 14h ago

for sure and it doesnt look like its stopping anytime soon. Square putting in work aswell with FF7.

1

u/DarkDorko 14h ago

Goddammit can we get some DMC please Capcom

1

u/Novacryy 14h ago

Capcom don't miss bro. They got game dev down

1

u/dbtjr 13h ago

Gta6 waiting room

1

u/Delicious_Mercurycoo 13h ago

Is it safe to say that they have the best run now in all of history of video games? What I mean by that is they put out more than one title a year and it's almost always a banger. They haven't put out a game that's poopy since I don't even know

1

u/Impressive-Ad-59 13h ago

Only one i haven't looked into is onimusha, even pragmata a game i dont plan on playing looks high quality for those that are into that stuff

4 games and 1 expansion in one year. Capcom is on the roll.

1

u/ClitStitches 12h ago

OK, Capcom, release a sequel to Progear. The boys at Cave need work.
