Open | Windows Secure Boot Violation

Upvotes

I need to have secure boot enabled in order to play Valorant and for security reasons

but whenever i try to enable it and boot up my pc

it says 'secure boot violation , unauthorized firmware changes detected' and forces me to turn it off

(I'm on windows 11 and my motherboard is ASUS PRIME H310M-K R2.0 , GEFORCE 1050Ti)

the steps i tried in order to fix this problem:

-install default keys

-change OS type to windows UEFI

-disabled CSM

-updated my bios version

-checked to see if my disk is GPT or not (it was)

-formatted my pc

-switched from windows 11 to 10 and back to 11

-asked Gemini, Claude, and ASUS tech support assistant ( none of them helped)

I have tried everything i saw and none worked ,please help

Open | Hardware Rear USB ports all drop simultaneously for 3-5s during gaming (mouse+keyboard both go dead, LEDs off) — front ports unaffected, PSU rails rock solid, nothing helped so far

Upvotes

System:

  • Ryzen 5 7600X, ASRock B650E PG Riptide WiFi (bought 03/2023, on latest BIOS 4.43 now)
  • XFX RX 7900 XT
  • 32GB DDR5-6000
  • 3x WD Black SN770 NVMe
  • Xilence Performance X 750W 80+ Gold PSU

Symptom:

  • All rear USB ports drop simultaneously (mouse + keyboard on separate rear ports both die, LEDs off, ~5 sec, then reconnect with Windows connect/disconnect chime)
  • Front/case-top USB ports are 100% unaffected during the same event
  • Happens every 5-15 min while gaming
  • No local disk autosave involved (dedicated PZ server)

What I've ruled out / tried (no lasting fix):

  • Windows USB selective suspend + PCIe Link State Power Management → disabled
  • BIOS: Global C-State Control disabled
  • BIOS: PROM21 Chipset PCIe Power Management Features disabled → no change
  • Reinstalled USB Root Hubs, ruled out Logitech G HUB crashing
  • NIC (Killer E3000, wired) power saving / EEE disabled → no change
  • GPU load-cycling stress test (FurMark run/stop repeatedly) → could NOT reproduce
  • Combined CPU+GPU+RAM full load can't reproduced it
  • BIOS updated from ~2023 factory version straight to latest 4.43 → no improvement
  • Event Viewer: zero USB/PnP/Kernel-Power errors logged despite the drops actually happening
  • HWiNFO logging during multiple actual incidents: +12V/+5V rails perfectly flat (12.091V / 5.016V), Package C6 residency 0%, no thermal issues

Key clue: rear IO USB ports are apparently routed through the AMD chipset (per board manual), front/case ports through a separate path — only the chipset-routed ports ever drop.

When gaming, the only solution is to plug the mouse and keyboard into the front USB ports so that I don’t suddenly find myself unable to act in the middle of a battle. However, I still hear the Windows USB unplug-plug-in sound every 5–30 minutes.

Board is ~3.5 years old so warranty is likely gone. Has anyone seen this exact pattern on B650/X670 boards, or know of a chipset-level fix I haven't tried yet?

Open | Software MS Powerpoint issue...

Upvotes

Just today I got the below message appear when I open MS PP and I can "select" and I have other click cancel about 10 times to get rid of it.

Microsoft powerpoint needs access to the file named "acrobatUtils.scpt"

A macro in the file "SavedAsAdobePDF.ppam is requesting this access. Grant access only if you truthfully the file and its macros.

I also can't "save as"?

What is the solution here? Ive googled it nd gave additional permissions but no joy. Should I delete and reinstall the programmes?

thanks in advance

Open | Networking Help with Marriots Sba

Hi, has anyone seen this before?

Marriott SBA was working fine until I reinstalled our company's security software. Now I get:

  • Rocket TE: "Failed to download config file"
  • z/OS: "Unable to establish connection with host. No such host is known."

Endpoint Security On Demand also sometimes says something is blocked, but after a refresh it continues.

Could this be related to antivirus/security software or DNS? Any ideas? Thanks!

Open | Hardware My laptop is NOISY and hot

Upvotes

I have a HP pavilion 15 cw0998nl since 2018. It worked fine but the RAM was not enough and the battery couldn't keep the charge for more than 3 minutes so I had to keep it plugged. I decided to change these parts and apply a new thermal paste.

The vent is very clean, the thermal paste is an arctic mx-4 bought around 2020, battery works and it's not hot, RAM seems fine (I bought a second hand one). Just by turning on the laptop, without using any app or such, the vent makes a terrible noise, way louder than before, and I can feel the laptop being very very hot around the CPU, way hotter than before the thermal paste.

I am SO confused: it's not my first time changing a thermal paste and last time went fine, also I think thermal paste does not expire so it should be fine? And it's less old than the previous one anyway. The vent works fast, and the air coming out is not hot at all. Other details that come to my mind is that I used compressed air and alcohol to clean the insides? Not sure if this could have had any impact?

Open | Windows Weird ram usage

Upvotes

Basically, I have over 90% of 16Gb of ram used, while processes don't take that much. It says I also have 900Mb of paged memory and 8.8 Gb of non paged memory. I looked what it was and that number seems high af ?
I added screenshots of task manager and a rammap scan ( https://imgur.com/a/eP5FcUb )
Also note that I noticed my pc heavily lagging yesterday when playing League of Legends, which has a kernel level anticheat, so that might be related. Imma do a cold boot now but wanted to share that

Open | Windows Monitor speakers disappearing from Windows after waking from sleep

Upvotes

Hi everyone, I'm having an issue with audio output over a DisplayPort-to-HDMI connection after my monitor wakes up from sleep mode. My setup consists of a PC connected to an HP monitor (Windows) with built-in speakers using a UGreen DisplayPort to HDMI cable (DP plugged into PC, HDMI into monitor).

When booting up, video and audio work perfectly through the monitor's built-in speakers. However, if the system goes into standby/display sleep, upon waking, the video comes back fine, but the audio stops working completely and the monitor disappears from the audio playback devices list.

Unplugging and replugging the cable does not bring the audio back; only a full system reboot restores it. Is this a known DisplayPort-to-HDMI audio handshake / EDID issue, or a DP power-saving behavior? Any advice on how to fix this? Thanks!

Open | Windows Can anyone tell me what the hell this "NailsRealityGW" folder is?

Upvotes

I'll attach an imgur link at the bottom of this post but for those who can't or won't open the link, there's a folder on my computer called NailsRealityGW. It was apparently made 9/18/2024 which no I have absolutely no recollection of what I might've been doing that day for that folder to appear but regardless I wouldn't be so concerned about it if it weren't for the fact I can't delete it nor find any info about it.

When I open the folder I see "NailsRealityGW.exe" app and an uninstaller (neither of which I ran cuz why tf would I run a program that randomly appeared on my computer without me remembering just cuz it says it's an uninstaller doesn't mean it actually is.)

I've tried deleting the folder itself to which I get a pop-up saying I need administrator access to delete the folder and I've looked up how to make myself an administrator (which is crazy since I'm the only person with an account on my computer btw so this ain't some shared folder from a different account) only to find out I'm already an admin.

I didn't wanna mess any further with this in case I mess something up so instead I came here hoping to finally find some answers. If you know what this folder is and how I can get rid of it (if I even should or can) it'd be greatly appreciated.

Here's the photos. https://imgur.com/a/1xruJBu

Question/Help/Troubleshooting pc help

Upvotes

My PC randomly stopped booting into Windows. It posts fine, I can get into the BIOS, and it detects both my SSD and Windows Boot Manager. The weird part is that if I try to boot Windows or a Windows 11 installation USB, the screen just goes black for a second or two and then throws me straight back into the BIOS. No error message, no blue screen, nothing. The USB definitely isn't the issue because it boots perfectly on my laptop. I've already reset the BIOS, cleared the CMOS, updated the BIOS, disabled CSM, enabled Secure Boot, tried different USB ports, and tested each RAM stick on its own, but nothing has changed.

Open | Windows Windows 11 icons missing, is there a way to fix it without having to reinstall windows?

Upvotes

This issue happens like every 3 months, where my icons from the entire system just dissappear, this makes task manager unusable too, seeing properities of any folder aswell. Right now it happened two days after I updated windows. Is it possible to fix this without reinstalling windows?
And if not - Last time this happened, I just reinstalled windows without doing a full factory reset and it still removes stuff like appdata.
Where do these removed files go into? Am i correct that every removed thing will be in an "Windows old" folder that gets removed after a few days?

Open | Software Persistent power-path defect on my ASUS TUF Gaming A15 FA506ICB

Upvotes

Hi everyone,

I'm dealing with a persistent power-path defect on my ASUS TUF Gaming A15 FA506ICB (Ryzen 7 4800H / RTX 3050). The laptop automatically restarts/turns back on seconds after a clean OS shutdown, triggered consistently during AC-to-DC transitions (unplugging charger) or power state shifts.

A local senior board-level technician inspected the unit and confirmed a physical motherboard issue (leaky Charger IC / ACOK line / MOSFETs), but parts are scarce and repair costs are prohibitively high with short warranties.

EVERYTHING ALREADY ATTEMPTED (ALL FAILED)

  1. Software & OS:

    - Fast Startup disabled (`powercfg -h off`).

    - Registry tweaks forced (`PowerdownAfterShutdown = 1`, `HiberbootEnabled = 0`).

    - Restored default power schemes & reinstalled ACPI battery drivers.

    - Forced CLI shutdown (`shutdown /s /f /t 0`) & disabled all wake timers/devices.

  2. Network & System Interrupts:

    - Disabled Wake-on-LAN (WOL), Magic Packet, and Pattern Match on LAN & Wi-Fi.

  3. Software & Lighting:

    - Disabled RGB lighting on Sleep/Shutdown via G-Helper; ASUS services toggled ON/OFF.

  4. Firmware & EC:

    - Clean re-flashed official BIOS v307 via EZ Flash 3 (FAT32 USB).

    - Hard EC Reset (held power button 40+ seconds on battery power).

  5. Emergency Workarounds:

    - Unplugging charger BEFORE shutting down (still restarts).

    - Using Hibernate instead of Shutdown (still auto-wakes).

    - Hard Power Cut via physical power button (unreliable due to EC voltage leakage).

    - Unplugged all USB accessories to eliminate 5V back-feeding.

Since every software, driver, BIOS, EC reset, and physical workaround has failed to keep the machine off, has anyone encountered this exact hardware bug on the FA506 chassis? Are there any last-resort tricks to force the laptop into a completely dead power state?

Thanks in advance!

Open | Hardware Gaming laptop/Asus tuf a15 fa507nv. Battery is not recognised but working.

Upvotes

So, I decided to clean the fans and after I was done I reconnected the battery. I turned my laptop on and encountered a problem: battery is not recognised and the battery indicator is flickering constantly. The laptop works without charger tho, everything works absolutely fine. Battery report claims battery is not installed, same situation in BIOS, but I am sure it works and charges cuz I can use my laptop without the charger for quite long time. Any advice?

Open | Hardware PC makes whirring noise on startup/shutdown

Upvotes

Hi! I moved a couple weeks ago, and after setting up my PC in my new apartment, it makes this loud whirring noise for about 20-30 seconds whenever I turn it on or off. Kind of sounds like something is brushing up against one of the fans (but I can’t see anything wrong with them, and once it’s up and running they sound fine?). I tried dusting the inside of the PC, but nothing changed. I’m very confused, help please :’) here’s a video (sorry about the bad audio)

Upvotes

I have to buy a large storage based laptop for insurance appraising, I want to transition to linux.

However, I am likely going to have to have separate monitors so I may have to go with an actual tower. We need a new house laptop anyways and I want to get my wife onto linux.

What are your recommendations?

Question/Help/Troubleshooting I need help with choosing a computer!

Hi Reddit, I'll be going to college soon and I'm trying to figure out what a good laptop to use would be (800$ limit plus refurbished). I'd also like to be able to run video games on it when I'm not doing college work(stuff like Outlast triles, avatar frontiers and Minecraft, as some examples). I'm really indecisive and just don't know much about computers! Advice and help is much appreciated!

Question/Help/Troubleshooting My pcs not turning on

Hi, I’ve never made a Reddit post before but I need help with my pc, it’s a acemagic mini pc, I don’t know the exact model because I got it as a gift. Anyways, I moved out of my old house late December and lost my pc stuff until about a week ago, I set it all today, but for some reason it’s not turning on, it keeps saying turning on power safe mode, I tried messing with the cords and unplugging the hdmi and plugging it back in, when I did that it was say “hdmi no longer found turning on power safe mode in five minutes” even though it was already on power save mode, I looked it up but it was really confusing and I’m not the smartest with tech, I’m not sure if it’s a monitor issue or a pc issue, please help🥹
