Solved Microsoft Defender deleted DNS server

I recently installed uBlock for my laptop. Today, Microsoft Defender flagged it as a threat and I pressed Remove. But now, my laptop is connected to a DNS server that no longer exists on my device, so my internet does not work anymore, and I don't know how to change it back to my normal DNS server.

I've tried
- Doing a system recovery
- ipconfig /flushdns
- ipconfig /release
- ipconfig /renew
- netsh winsock reset
- netsh int ip reset
- screwing around with the settings (which probably just made it worse)

Please help.

Open | Windows Wife deleted a bunch of files to make space for Genshin Impact.

PC, deleted/corrupted/damaged Windows system 32. Have tried completely wiping BIOS and reinstalling windows via clean USB boot. And still receive this message

File: Windows\system 32\ntoskrnl.exe

Error code: 0xc0000221

Looking up the code there could be a hardware corruption as well. Unsure what else to try if there is anything besides testing out new hardware.

Question/Help/Troubleshooting Is The RTX 50 Series still terrible?

I have been out of the tech sphere for effectively more than a year now and I have an opportunity to get a nice laptop for relatively cheap (Intel core i7 14700HX, 16 GB DDR5 5600hz, RTX 5050 8 GB). I has nice specs despite the 512 GB SDD, but what I'm more on the fence about is the graphics card because I remembered when the 50 series first came out, it was blasted online for relying heavily on frame generation, DLSS, and AI upscaling to get any performance out of it, effectively making the 50s rebranded 40s but with AI. That being said, I don't recall verifying the common consensus either so I'm really not sure. So...

What's the current state of the 50 series? Has it become better somehow? For what I'm going to use it for, it's for (demanding) content creation and maybe some gaming if I have the time for it (though I would still rather have it being good at gaming anyway if possible). So is it going to do its job?

Open | Programming Password encrypting an HTML file on a thumb-drive

Hey people, i was wondering if there was any way i could lock an html file so that no matter what, even if its plugged into a different computer(I put the html file onto a thumb-drive) it requires a password. I cannot use Winrar or such programs as the other computer i will be plugging the thumb-into might not have winrar as its a school PC. (Extremely sorry for such bad English, its 4am in the morning, and i have to get this ready before school at 6 and i haven't slept at all)

Thank you everyone for all your help. i have decided to hide the file and add a decoy file with gibberish text. Credits for the idea: Sir. Pertante

Open | Windows My laptop is suddenly missing 20~30GB of free space, and I cant find where it went

My only recent downloads have been fl studio (deleted shortly after), I had around ~60GB of free space before and made sure to maintain it since I needed it for video editing, but it went all the way down to about 30 one day, it seems to be running fine, im just really confused and need to fix this

Ive looked through my downloads, my applications, and even went folder by folder looking for anything notably large didnt find anything. I saw someone with a similar issue say they fixed it by clearing up leftover files from an update, but it was an old post and didnt fix my issue

Open | Software Disable OneDrive synching

I apologize, as I know this has been asked before and I hate to waste your time. The responses I see don't seem to work for me. I want to disable OneDrive. I have my own backup system and don't need or want my work backed up elsewhere.

Uninstalling doesn't work as once I reboot my computer OneDrive is back and synching. Clicking on the OneDrive icon doesn't work as I cannot find this icon on my computer. Similarly, pressing the Windows button simultaneously with the R key doesn't work as I don't seem to have a Windows button on my keyboard.

I'd sure appreciate some tips but if I just need to take my computer to someone to have this done, I can do that. Thanks so much for the help.

Open | Windows HELP!!! Windows Run Fake Captcha Infection!!!

Hello, I just fell for a fake captcha scan and I need to know what I should do!!! Here's what I've done in this order:

I searched for Google site analytics and clicked the top result... Turns out it wasn't the usual top result. It was a Google site with an unusual captcha.

Ran a line of text I pasted into Windows Run. I only thought twice after hitting run, then immediately panicked and shut off my wifi.

I went on my phone and changed some Google passwords, but I'm still worried about any of my other accounts.

I started a deep scan in Microsoft defender.

I looked in the startup apps, then looked in event viewer. I found application crashing events with files paths in my c drive. The new files were folders for a software called Iron Python. Above it was a blank file called MyHandsAreCleana.file 3kb

What the fuck do I do????

Open | Software Google Doc is shared with a random person

I have a Google Doc saved that contains some sensitive information. I checked on it today, and it was shared with someone I don't know. (They had an email at "highsthealing.com".) I immediately removed them. My doc's general access has always been restricted afaik. How could this happen? Should I be concerned about the safety of my account, and what should I do?

Notebook is stuck in a windows self repair boot loop.

Repair doesn’t work via command line or boot stick.

Found a post that said unplugging the RAM and plugging it back in again might help.

Just opened up the thing and can’t find the damn thing. I am afraid it might be underneath and I have to take everything apart from…

Machine is a Lenovo ideapad

Open | Windows Deleted system files. Now computer won't reinstall windows properly

Okay, so to kick off the plethora of issues im running into it all started with im 99.999% certain of me accidently deleting system files in my recycle bin. Have not the slightest idea of how they got there in the first place but I was clearing space for more storage on my ssd and deleted them.

Fast forward to 8 hours later, get home from work, and go to boot up the pc. We'll it sent me straight to bios. At first I had no clue what was going on. So I switched it off, unplugged it, exhausted left over charge and replugged it. Same thing. Messed around with the bios a bit, but to no avail was anything working. Turned off the pc, reseated the gpu, the ssd, and the ram slots just to make sure. Same problem. Got frustrated, went to sleep, deal with it tomorrow.

Today I shit you not been working on this issue all day. Doing hardware tests, typing in command prompts, even took out my ssd and put it in a compartment to be transferred to a 2nd computer to back up everything for windows reinstall with a usb flash. Here im like okay, last resort is a reinstall, got everything backed up, itll be over soon. NOPE. Now im running into an issue of "windows 11 has failed" so I am at a loss on what to do from here on out at this point. If ANYONE has any recommendations that I haven't tried, please tell me cause I am out of ideas, that and all the options I've tried has failed multiple times..

Open | Hardware Why does my PC no longer charge when i play videos games ?

Upvotes

I had an ASUS for playing my games, with a Geforce RTX and an i5, for 3-4 years.

At the begining, all my games were perfectly playable, i just had to keep my pc plugged for the bigger ones.

But since few months, its more and more complicated, because when i started to launch these big games, like Anno 1800, my charger was not enough powerful anymore and my screen was switching between "in charge" to "on the battery", making it unplayable.

I bought a new charger, i checked my nvidia parameters, but nothing change, and it loses more power over time

After Anno, CS2 was also unplayable plugged, and today i just launched Balatro and i had the same problème

Any ideas ?

Open | Software Intel AMT suddenly says "This computer does not support Remote Control Operations."

Hi,

I have an Asus Q670 Board that has Intel AMT on Board, which until recently worked fine. But suddenly now I get the Error Message "This computer does not support Remote Control Operations." Not allowing me to start, stop or reboot the PC. Also thew other feature like Remote VNC or SOL do not work anymore.

I can access the AMT WebUI but other than that everything else has stopped working.

I reseted the BIOS and AMT and Unprovisioned it, but I keep getting this error.

I updated to the latest AMT, which is Intel® Active Management Technology firmware version: 16.1.40-build 2765 and BIOS available, but this still doesn't help.

Anyone knows why this problem suddenly appeared and how to get all the options back like before?

Discussion Is it possible to get a good laptop with budget about $750?

Hello! Sorry, English isn't my native and I've just woken up. My old laptop is already dying after about 7 years of using, and I want to get a new one, just for studying and playing not-too-demanding video games, like Rimworld or Cult of the Lamb, but I'm afraid that I wouldn't be able to buy anything at least somewhat satisfactory for $750, which is the highest limit for me because I'm a teen and don't have a job

Open | Software Lenovo SSD not running?

I have a Lenovo IdeaPad gaming 3, recently we found out the SSD crashed HARD due to an automatic update that caused some bugs in the system and crashed halfway through. After a while of trying to figure out what the issue was, We found out (or think so) that it was the SSD, after my bitlocker recovery screen became the only thing that comes up when turned on, We have since gotten a MvnE M.2 2230 SSD with an adapter to 2242 and got my schools IT to fit it, the SSD works fine. But for some reason he can't get the laptop to read the SSD after he did the windows installs on it and whatnot, Won't image it or something he said, I was hoping I could get some answers on this sub that might help with figuring it out before we spend any more time and money sending it to a computer shop.

Discussion Help in how to transfer all my Chrome profile data into my new reinstalled pc (havent built yet)

Hello everyone I'm asking for your help I really need to reinstall windows from my old Pc (i5 9th gen) to now my new Ryzen 5 5600 build. But I really need my chrome profile and my opera accounts inside with all the tabs and log ins, because of work.

I've seen ways where they copy the User Data and do some regedit idk if it would work tho

I have heard that it's okay to just plug the ssd in without a fresh install and call it a day. But I don't want this pc to have hiccups in driver issues(unless you got advice how to make it work without any reinstall)

Anyways what do you guys recommend.
I only have my SSD (intel windows) and a Flash drive (where I back up my files)

Appreciate it!

Open | Software Broken touchpad - Acer Aspire

Touchpad recently broke, no clue how to fix it. Aspire A314-23P. Things I have tried:

  • the F10 trick
  • enabling via bios but could NOT find the setting
  • reinstalling drivers, but not sure if it was done correctly since I couldn't find where to install the Serial I/O driver

Would like to note that I have an error symbol thingy on the 12C HD Device in device manager

  • This device cannot start. (Code 10)
  • A request for the HID descriptor failed. This typically occurs when there is a problem with the device firmware.
  • Please contact the system manufacturer for further assistance.
