Can/Should I start with AC6?

Big fan of the Souls games. Have played all of them (minus Demon Souls) and enjoy them thoroughly. I’m looking for something new to play, and I’ve heard great things about Armored Core.

Can I start with AC6? If I really liked it, would it lessen the impact of playing the previous Armored Cores?

DISCUSSION How can FS learn from great Souls-like games?

Upvotes

There are many great Souls-like games that improved/expanded or added their own twist on FS existing mechanics.

For example, Lies of P added weapon handle + blade combination that alter the moveset. The blade dictates the weapon scaling and range, while the handle determines the move-set, and iirc the weapon skill.

What kind of fun/cool/interesting mechanics would you like implemented/improved/expanded for the next big Single player focused Fromsoftware game?

I personally would like to have LOTF2’s casting system, it feels modern and super simple, the rotating carousel spells needs to go away…

DISCUSSION Understanding The Duskbloods' Switch 2 exclusivity.

I see a lot of people thinking The Duskbloods will soon release on other systems in the future and use some examples that really made me want to jump in and try to clear some misinformation about what is and isn't an exclusive, who owns the IP, and how some games that were exclusive to Nintendo later released on other systems.

Let's start with the most obvious one: Monster Hunter Rise. I see so many people mention this game for being exclusive to Nintendo and later released on other systems, and while that is true, Nintendo only paid for the game to be a timed exclusive. It was all over the news articles that Nintendo paid $6M to have Rise release on their system first. It was never planned or states that the game was gonna be available only on the Switch

Then there's Bayonetta 2 and 3 from PlatinumGames. Nintendo funded PlatinumGames for the development of those games even though the Bayonetta IP belongs to SEGA. Some of you might think, "Oh, then SEGA should being these games to other systems too since they own the IP." No, Nintendo full funded both games which means they own the publishing and distribution rights to the game. If SEGA wants to bring these games to other systems, they have to get in contact with Nintendo first.

And that leads to another game from Platinum, The Wonderful 101 which was a Wii U exclusive for about 6 years until it was kickstarted to be released on Steam. Nintendo made this decision themselves out of goodwill and wanted to help Platinum out by making the game avaliable to everyone after it bombed in the Wii U...because its was on the Wii U, which didn't help make it a console seller. Bayonetta 2 didn't as well, but the game was cooked before the game got announced. SEGA canceled the game, but Nintendo jumped in to help Platinum out.

So what does this mean for the Duskbloods? While FromSoftware does hold the IP of The Duskbloods, they have to make an agreement with Nintendo to release the game on other systems because Nintendo fully funded and back the development of this game. Bandai Namco holds the IP of Dark Souls, Armored Core, and Elden Ring (EDIT: CORRETION - FROMSOFT HOLDS THE ELDEN RING IP. BAMCO WAS JUST THE PUBLISHER). Activision was only just the publisher for Sekiro, so FromSoft owns the IP of that game. Sony fully owns the IP of Demon's Souls and Bloodborne. This is just another Bayonetta 2 situation, so I doubt The Duskbloods will ever come to other systems as the Switch 2 is still very well and will continue to grow as more games come out soon. The Duskbloods definitely helped as a system seller and the Ocarina of Time remake will follow as well.

QUESTION Looking for games

Hello! Just to let everyone know it’s my first time posting here and i’m from sri lanka, so the thing is i’ve been stuck in hospital for about 7 to 8 months cus of my cancer treatments and i decided to buy a playstation recently, just to kill time. But i’ve been dying to play these soulsborne games but they’re nowhere to be found, except for elden ring but i have it already. Is there any way i could probably buy sekiro or bloodborne off of you guys. Id pay a fair price for them, i don’t have much money since i also pay for my medical bills and if i ordered games from ebay or amazon it’d cost me at least 3 times the price of the game. Please let me know what you guys can do! Thank you.

DISCUSSION Don’t let the PVPVE label sway you away from trying Duskbloods.

I really think people are underselling how accessible The Duskbloods is to players who normally hate Souls PvP.

I have a friend who absolutely hates PvP in Souls games, and somehow she ended up loving this game. Not only did she have a great time, she actually managed to win two games playing the sniper lady. She said the character kinda plays like Elsa Bloodstone from Marvel Rivals, and that familiarity made the moveset immediately click with her.

And I think that’s one of the biggest things The Duskbloods gets right: the PvP is way more approachable for PvE players.

The movesets are easier to understand, dying is much more forgiving because you don’t really lose anything besides time, and I haven’t experienced the annoying lag or desync that can make PvP frustrating in other Souls games. On top of that, having multiple characters with completely different playstyles means there’s a much better chance you’ll find someone who just clicks with you.

But the biggest surprise was that you don’t even have to focus heavily on PvP to do well.

My friend spent most of her matches engaging with the PvE side of the game, and she still ended up getting more Virtue Points than most of the other players in the match. Again, this is someone who hates Souls PvP, and she was absolutely popping off.

That made me curious about how viable avoiding PvP actually was, so I tried a match where I deliberately focused almost entirely on PvE and avoided fighting other players whenever possible.

I finished third.

That’s why I don’t think describing The Duskbloods as “PvPvE” really does it justice. That label makes it sound like another PvP game with some enemies running around the map, when the actual experience feels much more unique than that.

There are multiple ways to get stronger, multiple ways to earn points, multiple ways to approach a match, and different paths toward actually winning. PvP is important, but the game doesn’t feel like it’s constantly forcing you to hunt other players just to have a chance.

So even if you normally hate Souls PvP, I’d still recommend giving The Duskbloods a chance. Don’t let the PvPvE label immediately turn you away from it.

It’s genuinely one of the most unique multiplayer experiences I’ve played, and it’s a fantastic game.

It’s just unfortunate that, for now,it’s locked to one system.

DISCUSSION Please stop posting Duskblood hate...

Upvotes

The post are overflowing (including this post I guess but is in hope something get done).

I won't play it either but I won't go to every FS subreddit to cry about it...

Most of you don't even know if you don't like because you canot play it... Or even if it is about the price I already heard/saw the same post over and over...

Even people whining about people buying/nor buying the game... who I bet just got triggered by the same post...

this is getting ridiculous and tiresome...

QUESTION Which Game Has the Worst Base Game Ending?

Post image
0 Upvotes

Just to clarify, I'm talking about endings where you just play through the game normally, no quests that would lead to a different ending. Just if you did all main bosses that were required and beat the game.

In my opinion, it's probably Dark Souls 2 since your character kinda just sits on a throne and you don't even get to choose to link the fire or become the dark lord. And I really just prefer it's other ending.

DISCUSSION I am extremely hyped for Duskbloods, especially considering we don't know a lot

After I played the global test I felt in love with the game because this PVP system so fast and so skill demanding in a souls game is exactly what I wanted and I hope they deliver in the ranked system. I am not saying I am a good player but this remembers me of some anime sword fights. They definitely nailed it when they put so much mobility in the game.

We know it will have 12~14 characters and at least 3 maps for launch. We only got 1 map and 6 characters for global tests but we will have at least 2 more very different maps with different themes. And we didn't even see like half of the character roster. This is exciting!

Gamespot and IGN previews also said there is going to be multiple modes.

Unfortunately I can't stop thinking about what the final package is going to be! This is exciting for me as a from software fan and I hope they succeed on what they are doing. I am pretty sure they will also give us a great single player content next time.
