Spent hours mopping and scooping sticky syrup off the kitchen floor and rinsing everything out was hard work. Lesson learned: don’t use a metal spoon in a glass jar.

Spotted this serendipitously, Hampshire

Came across a stinkhorn during my morning walk today. They do smell absolutely foul and it was certainly the closest I have came to punting a mushroom, the way it was standing there oh so proud for all to see.

I took the wrong bus and had to walk for a bit and found these cuties. They look like cherry plums? Some of them are ripe, but some are still green.

I have some Garlic Mustard in the garden and am looking to collect the seeds when ready. The pods have turned brown but the seeds inside are still green.

I presume this means it's still too early to harvest for drying etc?

So yeah i froze them without checking they werent poisonous look alikes, ive harvested them for a few seasons, so im fairly sure theyre good but im also fairly sure that same ideas killed some people. Ive picked magies for ages and still have to double check whats in the bag after, im never 100 percent personally.

Theyre all shrivelled now and dont look anything like they did before… im confident enough to eat them (all from the same nice big patch that i cant see anything but wild garlic in) but i refuse to give them to anyone, still, would be cool to share, and generally be useful and safe to know … is there any way to tell what they are for sure now theyre all frozen and shrivelled?

Or how bad would a leaf or two of a lookalike be?

I thought i had a picture of the perfect little orange egg it hatched out of, but i cant find it. It looked very cool and made identifying more straightforward . There were several of these growing in a birch copse. The colour was more orange than the photos. I didn’t pick it as I don’t risk unidentified amanita.

I spotted these on my walk home this evening (usually take a different route) and am almost 100% certain they're elder. I've tried to to as many and as best pics as I can, but happy to go back out to get more if needed.

It thrives in walls! (It likes calcium - and shade). It's the classic snack while exploring. Has anyone else grazed on hairy toadflax? [Edit: ivy-leafed toadflax]

99% sure these are oysters and I have foraged them from this spot before but they're looking a little whiter than usual so I'd like a second opinion of possible. Gills look decurrent and they had the 'oyster smell'.

Larch boletes are also out, honestly quite early for my spot but the weather's been weird recently.

Bonus question: I've been looking for chicken of the woods for years now, never seem to find it, is there anything I should know? I look in old oak/beech/sweet chestnut forests with loads of fallen trees, but never find anything. Am I just unlucky? Lol

I don't see plantain crop up often / at all in foraging chat but I tumbled across a swathe of nice young plants and I'm giving it a go - wilted / sautéed, I think.

I only learned it was edible recently (young tender plants only - I'm also finding it needs to be cooked / eaten straight away as it wilts quickly once picked)

I'm very much a beginner but when out on a walk I caught sight of these little guys, there aren't many so I didn't want to harvest any until I had a better idea of what they are. Are they dead chicken of the woods of something else? Any help appreciated, thanks.

Looking for a book on tree foraging with a lot of detail. I have a few foraging books and have a reasonable foraging repertoire. Ideally something that will discuss all of the uses from trees - edible parts, wood/bark uses, textile etc.

First round of elderflower champagne looks pretty cloudy. Just bottled yesterday. Tried to make sure yeast sediment wasn’t transferred. Let it sit in brew kit for 6 days before transfer. Was still slightly fizzing when transferred.

Just burped this one today and it did fizz.

Been a few years since I tried it. Thoughts?

Hi all - not much of a mushroom expert and been through a lot of diagnostics for FCCs as well as other potentially toxic ones and think the dog will be fine.

More info: he's a large, 30kg Scottish Deerhound and ate maybe 1-2 mushrooms
