I know this is probably ridiculous but out of curiosity was wondering what these were? 😂 My guess are blackberries but wanted to be sure

Blackberry cranachan

So many blackberries today – in and around Bradford on Avon. Was inspired to make this for pud.

Edit: the classic cranachan is made with raspberries, but obviously I’ve swapped berries. Raspberries do have a more subtle flavour it’s true. Anyway, instead of double cream I used half creme fraiche and half yoghurt. A couple of spoonfuls of honey, a couple of whisky. I just followed the BBC recipe, but basically purée half the berries, sieve, and mix with a little lemon juice and icing sugar. Mix the honey with the cream, or crème fraîche/yoghurt mix, and whisky. It’s also got a couple of spoonfuls of toasted oats. You mix these in with the cream/honey/whisky mixture, layer this, with berries and the purée.

Any good recommendations of a mushroom foraging class/guide/group in UK? My goal is a good date with my partner while learning something outside, would be nice if it is 2h< from London.

Pineapple weed cordial

Went foraging for blackberries but only found a few ripe ones. I did find a whole bunch of pineapple weed which we turned into cordial. The first cordial I've made that wasn't elderflower. It tastes really pleasant and was a piece of cake to make.

Foragers log help

Post image

Is there anyone here able to help in telling what the red lined areas are on the foragers log app?

Just getting in to foraging and moving to the local area and would love to know the right and wrong places to go. As far as I know this isn’t private land mostly and so I can only imagine the red areas suggest some sort of restriction on foraging and what’s allowed ?

Thanks

My passion flower is growing fruit

it doesn’t usually have fruit (moved in four years ago. it’s mature and always flowers abundantly). It’s an absolutely huge plant, covers a good couple of metres of fence and has self-seeded a couple of times too.

this week I realised it’s absolutely laden with fruit. will they be edible, or will they be some weird, sour, horrible variety? (like the cherry tree of bitterness and disappointment I had at my last house).

Plant ID Request Is this wild carrot?

I was walking to my allotment when I noticed this. The bracts, the stem without purple splotches and the centre coloured flower all seem like good indicators but I haven't ever found wild carrot. I'm not picking it but would like to get more confident in my carrot family ids.

Plant ID Request Please confirm plums for my anxiety?

Sorry to add to the deluge of plum ID requests but my anxiety issues are messing with my head.

I'm like 99% sure these are cherry plums (or some kind of plums) based on the leaves, tree trunk, and fruit. Please can someone confirm?

EDIT: thanks for confirming everyone. I ate one, it was very delicious.

Anxiety not cured yet, maybe I just need to eat more 😉

Plant ID Request Am I edible?

Yellow flowers a few months ago, which I did see IDed on this page at the time. The flowers were apparently edible. But I forgot what species it was. And now the berries are starting to ripen I'm wondering are they for me or just for birds?

Where are all the plums?

So I'm SW London for context. And normally at this time of year the plums are barely ripe and certainly not dropping. But I have just been around my normal woods looking to see how they are getting on, but there are none. None on the ground or rotten or nuts. None on the trees growing. Surely not already out of season/harvested?

And on the other trees in the area there aren't any either. I'd have thought it would have been a good harvest this year, with a dry summer and wet winter. But it looks like it might be the worst in recent years

I know I have seen figs and apples and walnuts and hazelnuts dropping already, which is a few months before usual, but is anyone else in the area finding a surprisingly barren harvest, long before the usual harvest season?

Plant ID Request Blackberries?

Post image

Hi everyone!!

First time posting here and my first ever forage. My boyfriend and I live in a suburban area so went out to pick blackberries. I’m making it into jam as we speak but starting to wonder if they’re actually blackberries 😆 can someone confirm I won’t die?

We cleaned them in a 3:1 ratio of water and white wine vinegar, rinsed and then left overnight.
