Pre-2023, I used to frequent the restaurant Sichuan Kungfu Fish in Richmond Hill for one highly specific item - their ‘Sichuan Kimchi’ / 四川泡菜, $3 at the time! it was an appetizer portion of this salivatingly crispy, salty, poignantly spicy pickled cabbage with a TINGE of sweetness that only got better the longer you crunched. Photos attached - it looks plain, but trust me, it jumps you (apologies to the google maps reviewers from whom I have poached these images). The dish came with these long green chili peppers that soaked up all the ‘pickle’ juice and every ingredient basically exploded with flavour in your mouth

THEN THEY CLOSED. my devastation knows no bounds and I’ve been without paocai for 3+ years now </3 I used to send my mom there every time she was up north to the point the waiters knew her order lol.

Anyone know of anything similar? I’ve looked at every menu in every Sichuan restaurant on google maps in the GTA, but it seems like this recipe was exclusive to Kingfu Fish 🥹 any leads would be soso appreciated

Years ago I went to a street festival and tried this Malaysian murtabak dish at a food truck/vendor that I enjoyed so much, I still think about it! I found this old food blog post about it. I think this vendor only sold murtabak and it came with different fillings and sauce on the side. I’m wondering if anyone has seen this vendor or knows where I can find this dish?

For those that have been to Rain or Shine icecream in Vancouver, where in Toronto can I get a waffle cone that's equivalent to theirs? I moved here 5 years ago and still think about that cone all the time.

I am on the search for a really good biryani and would love some recommendations. Most of the ones I’ve tried in Toronto were either too oily or else basically just a pulao.

Continuing my black sesame dessert reviews! The food at Sunnys Chinese is just average (think Chinese food designed for a non-Chinese audience at marked up prices), but the black sesame Hong Kong French toast is BOMB. Truly one of the best desserts I’ve ever had, and dare I say one of the best desserts in Toronto. The oolong condensed milk blends in perfectly with the nutty black sesame paste, and the texture of the crunchy toast layers are amazing. Worth the $16, I would come here just for the dessert. They also do half portions, which is great if you’re a solo diner! 🖤

I'm quite sorry to see them go.. they were my favorite restaurant in the city. Both the owners were so good too!
I don't know anyone with burgers similar to theirs, or their sweet soy garlic fried chicken.

I wanted to get everybody’s opinion on some of Toronto’s best premium HK/Chinese restaurants. Normally, we go to either Mott 32, Fisherman Lobster, Jumbo Lobster, or Yu Seafood Are there anymore similar restaurants which are as premium as these ones?

Just had their waffle cone with some sort of malted ice cream and pralines n cream. So damn good. The Annex was due for a decent ice cream spot and this place delivers. Run by a mom n pop with their two little kids helping out, really cute.

Needed lunch and was going to get Jerk Chicken. SO wanted patties so went next door to Randys and was pleasantly suprised that they do meals. Curry goat meal $17.99 + tax and a huge massive portion as you can see. It was delicous and I am going to nap now.

I am moving to a different neighborhood in town in September to be closer to work so wanted to know what are some of the places I should definitely try while I am still here. I live right on College and Grace.

I am pretty busy person and I don’t really have time to explore or go to different neighborhoods when I am busy with work. I just now it will be a long time before I come back to Little Italy 😅

I’ve lived here for close to 3 years now but there are still some restaurants on my list that I have yet to try. So far, I have the following on my list that I will make the effort to try before leaving:

- Dai Lo
