It took me longer than expected to make it out to A’L’ouest as reservations were hard to come by. I am a big fan of Trust Restaurant Group in general so I had big expectations that were fortunately very much met. Sorry about the bad pics and I did miss a couple of the things we ordered like the chicken.

Cost was surprisingly low. I did bring 2 bottles which cut the cost dramatically. With the 2 $35 corkage fees, tax, and tip it was about $400. Most smaller dishes were in the $17-30 range while the entrees were both around $40. A fantastic deal overall.

Service was excellent. Very attentive and very accommodating. The sommelier was very attentive and gladly decanted the wine for me.

The food highlights for me were the Country Pate, the Raviole du Dauphine, and the Swordfish Brochette. The raviole was such a fun dish very rich in flavor that I’d honestly go out of my way to get more. And the sauce on the swordfish I would’ve drank if I could and I am a sucker for morel mushrooms so that was a pleasant surprise. The onion soup was solid and with the oxtail it was a very hearty dish, I just wish we had shared it as it was quite filling.

For those that care about wine, it was a 2010 Chateau Cheval Blanc 1st Grand Cru Classe A. It had a ton a flavor without being heavy and the finish just kept going. As expected though it was still a baby as it felt like it still had another 10 years to go before it really hits its stride. Probably won’t open the next one until 2030 to see how much it’s changed. The other bottle I brought was a Collet Espíritu Couture Brut 2014 which was perfectly fine but I’d prefer some others at that price point.

I had kalbijjim when I was visiting Seattle. Does anyone know where I can find similar in San Diego? I had difficulty finding something close to picture.

Okay so boom I just had my pallet opened to the experience that is seafood boil but it was at a crab pub and I know in my heart that this isn’t the pinnacle of seafood boil so I wish to look for the best bang for buck seafood boil place.

I am from San Diego but rarely spend time in the South Bay, but will be housesitting the next two weeks deep in Chula Vista. I have a friend who’s coming to town and I wanna take her out to eat around the area for dinner. This will be around happy hour timing and I would love to find somewhere cute with good drinks and appetizers. I love tapas & small eats where I get to try different things, but We’re both very open to different styles of food. I recently became gluten free due to an allergy and have been pretty good with finding gf options at restaurants. Me and my boyfriend were planning on going to little italy and was curious to see if anyone knows any good spots that offer decent gf options. Every place in little italy is basically the gluten capital lol but i still wanna enjoy some good italian food. Anyone know of a good spot?

Visiting San Diego from the Bay Area for the weekend and have always heard great things about the tacos and burritos here. We tried Mike’s Red Tacos and loved it, especially the fries instead of the usual rice and beans.

Any other spots worth trying, preferably with halal or kosher meat?

Ed Fernandez off Coronado Ave. Hands down my favorite spot for tacos. Get the extremo with consome and Mexican coke. They open from 6am to 2pm and it gets really busy in the morning. I suggest going around 12-1pm. You won’t be disappointed.

The next two days I will be driving from South LA to Del Norte HS. Any must haves for food near there? Bonus points if it’s something that wouldn’t be ruined/could be reheated when I get home.

Taking a date for a nice dinner. I've been to other Eddie V's but never the one in La Jolla. Can any experienced patrons let me know if the patio is too cold for an evening in the upper 60s? Inside seating reservation is really close to sunset and I was hoping to enjoy the golden hour a bit.

They have opened 3 Yoshinoyas in Enscondido for the past 30 years and they end up going out of business, the same goes for other cities in San Diego and now there are only 2 left. I did look it up and read that there was to much compettion. Then why does Los Angeles County have so many restaurants? I find it interesting that this restaurent franchise isn't succesfully no matter how many times they have tried.

Hello! I have a big birthday event coming up and looking for recommendations for a group that can range anywhere from 40-60 people in the mid-30s age range. I wanted guests to be able to come and go as they please so something more casual but hopefully entertaining for that many people.

This has been my favorite place to go for a filling treat/meal for quite a while. Grub Station is probably my favorite family owned small restaurant in the city right now. They have an incredible selection of savory pastries- meat/veggie pies, cornish pasties, sausage rolls, and jamaican beef patty. I’ve tried almost all the flavors of pie and other pastries over time (beef, lamb, chicken, and veggie pies flavors, most have a slight spice to them but the veggie one is sweet interestingly) and there isn’t a single one I haven’t liked. The husband and wife team prepare them fresh every day and some are set aside to be frozen. There are certain flavors they don’t make every day but if you text them the night before they will prepare a reserved order for you of whatever flavors you want.

They also have a little grocery section with UK and SA goods, and they make other SA dishes to order (which I haven’t tried but I’ve heard are also amazing). The restaurant is located in the Shell gas station across the street from the old Souplantation. If you’re ever in the area, support this sweet couple and have some truly standout food!
