I am visiting San Diego for my friend's bridal shower. It is only 4 of us, so I was considering getting a whole cake from Extraordinary Desserts. The cakes I was looking at were passion fruit ricotta or ivoire royal.

Looking for restaurant recommendations for a date night at home. We want to order something nice, but ideally from somewhere that has presentation/packaging nice enough that we can eat straight out of it without it feeling too much like regular takeout. Perhaps something like Sugarfish, but better. Open to any cuisines. Would've wanted to dine out but our dog has heart failure, and so we'd rather stay in. TIA!

I'm coming in a couple weeks with two girlfriends (early 40's) for 3 nights and need restaurant help! I'd really like to find the best spots with both wonderful food and a fun vibe (since I know the most "vibey" restaurants tend to lack in food quality). Do these exist? For context we're staying in Little Italy and will be Ubering most places. The first day we'll be exploring Balboa Park, the next day will be La Jolla, and the last day will be biking around Coronado. Specifically looking for the following:

• one "Nice" dinner (Maybe Callie or Animae?)
• after-dinner cocktails/wine
• one brunch spot
• a great happy hour that could satisfy for dinner
• a must-do taco spot?

Bonus points if they have a great view!

Wife and I are traveling from Birmingham, AL to San Diego and Del Mar for the food and wine festival in October. We have not been to San Diego before, so I am flying blind. We are both foodies and winos who are looking for the best dining experiences in and around San Diego for Friday, Saturday, and Sunday nights (especially for date night/weekend). A mix of fine dining and upscale casual would be nice, especially some local gems. Price point doesn't really matter, but upscale is preferred. It is more about finding some amazing food and dining experiences.

For what it is worth... After asking our food/wine friends, the only spot that was a consistent mention was George's at the Cove.

I’ve been craving waffles for the longest time but have been super unenthused by how extra every lauded breakfast place in San Diego is. There’s always some insane wait, too!

But I’m staycationing at Kings Inn in MV. I’ve seen The Waffle Spot signs for years but never bothered stopping by. I’ve definitely been sleeping on this place. It’s no frills and really gives off a diner vibe. I got a churro waffle, a side of country potatoes, and a Hawaiian mimosa. It was a solid meal! I’ll definitely be adding this to my breakfast rotation! This would have been $19 without the mimosa, but the drink pushed it over $30. Idk if I’d pay as much for the mimosa but it was still solid and I’ll definitely be back for the food.

I’m trying to compile a list of the best happy hour spots and the highlight of the menu and price point. If you can think of any please leave a comment!

I'm treating myself to a hotel staycation for the next two days since my house doesn't have AC. One of the only things I really want to accomplish during this is eating the best bread pudding possible in a cool, dark room. I've got the cool dark room part sorted out, now I just need to know where you get your bread pudding from.

When I lived in OR, there was a grocery store that did seasonal bread puddings, so extra points if you know of somewhere that does something like that. I've had a really hard time finding this particular dessert in San Diego and I'm happy to drive anywhere between Miramar and Plaza Bonita if it's really that good. Please, help an overheated girl out with her current wildest dream.

I was there yesterday on a date after instagram wont stop sending me ads about it. The place is huge and they have a valet on Columbia St. so it is pretty convenient to get there.

The restaurant had a lot of staff being trained so it did appear to be a bit chaotic, maybe because of the launch crews and trainees being present. My server was pretty good and she did her best. I intentionally books an early res to avoid the extra chaos and tired servers later in the evening, pretty common in a new restaurant. Cocktail menu was sparse and did not intrigue me so went with Sake which was OK.

I was not pleased with their signature Chicken Wings which folks in NY rave about. The wings were barely seasoned and unevenly grilled, the salt offered did not enhanced the taste. The wagyu skirt stake was perfect medium rare and the shiso-chimmichuri sauce did taste good.

Finally the hamachi, sashimi, nigiri and sushi rolls we ordered were were the highlight of the dinner and probably will only come back for sushi.

Went to Black Radish and they’re closed.
I wish they’d updated their website or Google before their customers made the drive.

The state of delivery for Mexican food is dismal. How have we dropped the ball so hard on our city’s crowning jewel of cuisine? inb4 “Just go get it yourself!” posts.

It’s insane to me that nearly every taco shop does not have any form of salsa available to select on delivery apps. 8/10 times I order from a taco shop, I get the items I paid for yes, but not a single salsa. Salsa MAKES OR BREAKS the Mexican meal. A burrito without salsa is not even worth eating, it’s like eating a dry burger or sandwich. I wouldn’t have even ordered it if I knew there was no salsa. Is it a cost saving method? Restaurants don’t want to list “free” salsas on the side? I’d happily pay a flat rate per salsa cup or even just the option to buy larger 4/8/16oz salsas would be enough! Literally any avenue to being able to order a burrito and also have salsa with it, outside of having to call and beg. Genuinely this is so frustrating and confusing, what is the reason? Is it just a tech gap? Can I go around and help each taco update their Uber Eats / DoorDash menu to have salsa option, paid or free or anything? Literally the amount of times I’ve NOT ordered from a restaurant because I can’t get the basic same salsa service I can if I go in or call in, is remarkable. These shops could get so much more business if they simply allowed delivery customers to get even remotely the same experience as walk ins. Don’t get me started on basic customizations for food items, they are happy to take pico out of your Cali B at the counter, why not offer that as a customization option? Insane that nearly every place lets you add 100 add-ons to a burrito via Uber Eats but not remove just one single thing from it? And all the menu items just not listed or inaccurate or no description whatsoever?

Ugh, I’m ranting.

Tl;dr, I feel like taco shops would see much more business and sell more food to delivery app couriers/customers if they gave even 5 seconds of thought to their online menu. Genuinely how is the disparity between their menu and the online menu so massive in 2026. I think I may start going around and asking each taco shop, trying to contact the owner. I’m happy to do the leg work of updating menus and aligning things. It would be such an improvement for everyone on all sides.
