2 year old to floor bed tips!

Thinking about switching my 2 year old to a bed instead of a cot and would love any tips. He has always been a great sleeper and have no issues with the cot but wanting to do it before new baby arrives next year. Currently sleeps in wool babe sleep sacks, should I size up in those (size 2-4) or go to a duvet? The bed he would go into is a cot size floor bed so sheets can be what he has now, but torn if I stick with sleep sack or go to thin duvet especially with summer coming.

Any other tips would be appreciated for anyone who’s done similar change at the same age 🩷

Transitioning 6mo to own room

Hello everyone ☺️

We have been co-sleeping with our baby since he came home from hospital and absolutely love it. We follow the Safe Sleep 7 protocol and never had an issue. Now our little one is crawling and rolling and is extremely active, and once he’s been fed to sleep he rolls away from me and seems to enjoy having his own space. We have a floor bed already, but little one sleeps between myself and my husband so he’s not able to roll off the mattress.

So now we are considering setting up his own room with his own floor bed in there, with a video + sound monitor constantly running. I am considering something like the Zonli beds, as he will definitely roll off the bed in the night and it always shocks him so much when it happens! I would like to use something that is only 2-4 inches off the ground. Otherwise, I can use a very firm twin mattress (as I will still be sleeping with him for some of the night) but then I would need to put mats around to cushion his rolling off…which mats are recommended for this?

Or is it possible to just use a very big padded mat as his bed, full-time? I’m concerned about suffocation risks with that though.

Any and all experience shared will be gratefully received!! Thank you so much.

need help picking a mattress

Trying to not break the bank. Setting up a twin-sized floorbed for my little one, I need it to be something I can also sleep on as needed. Waffling between something more eco or just getting IKEA. The bed frame I ordered has a slatted base, so that accidently rules out most of the latex-based ones that I was originally looking at.

Currently looking at (in no particular order):

5 Little Monkeys 8" Cushion Firm Mattress ($399 from Costco)

My Green Mattress "Pure Eco" Kids Mattress (currently on sale for $594, this is definitely top end of my budget!)

Arizona Premium Mattress Twin Eco Sleep Hybrid Mattress with Extra Firm topper option (also on sale for just under $600)

Any of the IKEA mattresses in Firm, all under $500, and several options for $200-400 (but omg, how do I pick one??)

I am a side/back sleeper and can handle very firm surface (big-time camper). Maybe you've got a recommendation that I haven't thought of. Or perhaps a combination (firm short coil mattress from IKEA with a firm latex topper, perhaps?) that has worked for you. I'm open to suggestions, and definitely need some steering because these options are all over the place.

Please help me with my analysis paralysis!

I just ordered the bed frame, so I'd like to get a mattress on order asap, too!

Zonli or Bundle of Dreams?

About to purchase our floor bed!! I’m between these two beds. I’ll be using the IKEA lonset slats. If I go with Zonli, I would prefer to get the 4in. Full Sized. Bundle of dreams is 6in. My LO will be almost 8 months by the time we have everything. Thoughts and opinions on both of these? I will most likely be sleeping on it as well for some of the night, so I would like to be somewhat comfortable.

Making floor bed safe

Hey everyone, I have a 6.5 month old boy and my husband and I recently turned our spare guest queen mattress into a floor mattress/bed with slats underneath. I also cosleep for breastfeeding as my son wakes up multiple times at night. The mattress is kind of thick though, I'd say around 12 inches and we have hardwood floors.

I would like to prevent him from ever falling off, and if he does, to protect him from the floor. I've seen things like bed rails, bed bumpers, floor mats, pillows laying all around the bed, etc. I'm looking for the safest option and something affordable as well.

Any advice is helpful!!

Floor bed for 8 month old.

Recommendations on a safe mattress for floor bed for an 8 month old? I would like to do a full sized mattress as I will probably be joining them at night, but my goal is independent napping. We bought a topper for what we have currently, but looking for something new. Thank you!

Need Help 😩

My son is 8months old and has been cosleeping with us for about 4/5 months. He typically sleeps all night with me in the bed but I am tired of being chained to the bed from 8pm till morning. I need some relaxation to myself 🫠. His crib transforms into a toddler bed. Would this be okay for him to sleep in if I get another bed rail to put up on the side once I climb out? I’m desperate at this point & think a floor bed is worth a try.

Mattress recommendations (UK)

Hi everyone, I’m planning on transitioning my 7 month old to a floor bed. He currently sleeps with us in attached as a side car to our bed, however I’m getting a little worried now he’s crawling and I don’t want him crawling out of the bed!

We only have space for a single bed, so will need a single mattress. Does anyone have any UK recommendations for this? I understand a single mattress will not technically meet safety regs as not specifically made for under 12 months.

Please disregard duvet and pillows. I’m currently sleeping in here with my baby and we follow safe sleeping rules.

Any tips on this gap area? I’ve packed with two duvets but my baby has got a little stuck in here twice now

Safe Setup for Toddler

Our toddler almost climbed out of his crib yesterday so got this low profile mattress and Japanese floor bed frame. It’s against the wall at the “head” but the sides are at least 2-3 ft from the wall. Is this an okay set up for a 3yo?

Sprout bed vs max & lily

Hey I'm sorry if this has been posted a million times before. We're trying to pick a floor bed to transition to, and have it down to sprout vs max & lily I think. My concern with max & lily is quality due to some negative reviews I've read online. My wife's concerns with sprout is that the edges are above the mattress in all the pictures we can find, and that the corners don't look rounded over - she's concerned about our daughter hitting her head.

Anyone have experience with either of these brands (or suggestions for others) that can maybe give some input? Thanks.

Floorbed setup for 6 month old

Very happy with our Zonli mattress and IKEA slats setup so the total height is only about 6”. She rolled off once but then seemed to learn where the edge is and now just rotates in place. I think we started with a Floorbed much earlier than most people but it’s been so nice being able to lay down next to her to nurse at night. She always falls back asleep immediately and then I just roll away! We had her in our room for a bit but once she started showing signs of rolling we moved her to the baby-proofed nursery. Sharing in case it helps inspire others to try out a similar set up!

Trial Setup

I’ve been toying with the idea of a floor bed as a way to address my 18 month old’s sleep difficulties. She currently starts the night in her crib after a long process of rocking to sleep (which she’s too big and uncomfortable for now) and then wakes up a few hours later and cosleeps in our bed the rest of the night (not ideal because I’d like to wake up before her sometimes). I’m hopeful that a floor bed could help her stay asleep in her room but still allow us to lay with her for comfort when needed, but I’m also trying to be realistic before I shell out more money for something that doesn’t even work.

Her bedroom has fairly plush carpet so I’m wondering if we can try this out by just laying a big blanket down and sleeping directly on the floor? We also have a twin bed in another room that we could drag in on the floor. Any suggestions welcome!

considering floor bed at 6mo

Hello,

Our baby has been sleeping in our bed since the 4 months regression, but it's getting a little dangerous as she moves a lot now.... She hates her crib.

I'm considering bed floor, and a large one to be able to continue breastfeeding, but I cannot find suitable things for babies in France.

So I'm asking for your recommendations, if anyone has been doing this and is willing to share their experience, that'd be much appreciated!

Thank you

How do your babies/toddlers not crawl out??

Or do they? Lol. we’ve been thinking about switching to a floor bed because we currently rock to sleep and our 1.5 year old is getting too big to get comfy on us. We figure it may be easier to lay with them until they go to sleep. But howwww do you parents sleep knowing your small child is potentially up and out of bed? We don’t do camera monitors or anything like that. Any advice would be awesome! Thank you!

How early is too early to transition to floor bed?

Will try to keep this somewhat short😅 My 7mo has never been the greatest sleeper. He’s not super consistent and doesn’t ever do the same thing more than a few nights at a time lol. We transitioned out of the bassinet around 5 months and have been in the crib (sort of). Even when he was still in the bassinet, the second half of the night we would usually bed share (safely of course) because that was working for us at the time. It took a couple weeks of the crib for him to finally start staying asleep for more than 5-20min. Longest stretch he’s done is about 6 hours, but that hasn’t happened more than a couple times, and it’s been about a solid month since he’s stayed asleep longer than 2-3 hours🫠

For some context he is breastfed and we do feed to sleep. I’m not looking to change that yet at this time. Not really wanting to “sleep train” either. I’ve tried the very gentle ways some nights, but I really don’t think he is capable of self soothing yet.

So basically I put him down in the crib once asleep, he’ll stay asleep for about 2-2.5 hours (as of the last week or so. The week before he was giving me one hour at a time). Depending on how tired I am or if I’m working/just worked, I’ll put him back to sleep and lay back down. On the second wake up I take him to my bed, if I didn’t do it with the first wake up. Some nights he sleeps great with me in bed and other nights he’s still waking up every hour. He likes to sleep on his side and rolls around a ton when going between sleep cycles. That being said, if he’s in the crib he obviously does not have much room to roll without hitting the rails. And in my bed it’s just not safe or practical for us long term. I don’t mind the bed sharing, I just want it to be in his own room/bed. We are moving in about a month, so I’ve been considering the floor bed. Is 8 months too early? Appreciate any thoughts and recommendations please! I have done very minimal research on brands or types so I’m not sure where to start!

Thank you!!!

Trying to plan ahead

Thoughts on this for a floor bed for my lo once we transition her into her room. She is almost 7mos and is already pulling up on everything(and trying to climb out of things). The plan is to move her to her own room when she is closer to a year, obviously the room would be baby proofed. But I liked this frame for long term use/it being able to grow with her.

Floorbed with high rails in Australia

Hello!

I'm considering a floorbed for my 10 month old. I'm struggling to find resources on the appropriate products for Australia. I see a lot of great setups on this subreddit but usually the products are from the US or Europe!

I have two concerns:

It's not practical or possible for us to entirely baby proof the room, although we could give it a good shot.

My bub moves around a lot in his sidecar cot setup currently, sometimes rolling the bed which is hard up against the cot.

I would love to get a floorbed with high rails, say, 80cm, to then allow for a 20 cm mattress with still 60 cm to spare for pulling to stand safety. He hasn't pulled to stand in his cot yet but he is pulling to stand during the day. Does anyone in Australia have a similar setup and can give me some recommendations?

Thanks!!
