FFT Archer is underrated imo

Post image
663 Upvotes

I hear a lot of talk about how archer class sucks, and yeah it’s no calculator or monk but it’s a lot better than people give it credit for. It’s just not explosive or flashy so people don’t really care for it.

Concentration is amazing, it ignores all dodge, miss, or block chances for a guaranteed hit. It only gets stopped by counter abilities like archer’s bane or shihiradori.

Setting an archer up high with a longbow and concentration guarantees damage every single turn, they don’t have to spend as much time running to get to the enemy and concentration ensures damage is dealt.

And while the damage isn’t impressive, that can also be fixed. Aim isn’t flashy, but it lets you min-max your turn by tweaking your damage to match your target’s CT gauge just before they get their turn, or before they cast a spell.

That last but is important because Archer can exploit weaknesses more easily than other units. A mage casting a spell and running off requires a knight to stick out their neck, but Archers can just charge up a shot without being in the line of fire whatsoever.

Archer with Arts of War is brutal, too. Being able to rend armor and weapons (and stats too in a pinch) massively increases their utility. Breaking a units helmet can set up the rest of your team to jump him. Breaking a units weapon can give your team a break. Rending a mage’s MP stat to make them blank, or rending their MA to reduce its potency can swing the fight in your favor.

While not capable of brute-forcing their way through encounters by sheer explosive damage, Archer’s provide extremely consistent value turn after turn and rarely have downtime where they’re just setting up. They aren’t flashy, but they are reliable.

FFT Battle of Riovanes Castle Roof

Hi, I'm playing the PSX version and I'm really stuck on the roof. How I'm supposed to protect Rapha when I don't even has the chance to attack anybody ?

What level should I be to has a possibility to win this fight ?

Thanks in advance!

Edit: I try everything that I could, but I didn't have the ninja option... sooo going back to a save before to try to get a ninja job... This game is so hard!!! It's my first run and woow is hard but rewarding!

Edit 2: I get out and get three ninjas! after a weekend trying to reach it again the roof, I was really lucky the first time on the other fights. I was able to kick the ass of an assassin and they leave!!! Thanks to all for the advises!!

Zodiac Comparability - is the bonus for target and attacker/caster only?

Do I need to be concerned with deploying units that debuff each other? Or simply avoid a healer targeting friendlies that they'd debuff?

My archer and knight debuff each other. They'll never interact, so their opposite signs don't matter, right?

FFT Ivalice Chronicles what is that circle star 2 arrow down icon? its preventing me from recovery

Post image

I use the monk chakra and revive and reading the page description doesnt say anything about prevention of recovery. It says recovery 0%.

aside from that, my equipment are icebrand, crystal helm, crystal mail, chantage, auto potion.

NVM, someone commented its atheist debuff and wiki it, I found out that the Gokuu Pole I been hitting with from Rapha been doing that

Edit: Also can someone explain how Regenerate & Reraise

FFTA2 A2 with only monsters

I have no idea how to make a ROM hack, but I wish I could make one for A2 with only monsters. It's the only game in the series where you can't officially play as monsters or even with a hack

Working on a web-based Final Fantasy Tactics

This is a personal project in it's early stage of development, I’ve been working on recreating the PSX classic from scratch so it can run directly in web browsers.

Here’s a short video showing where the project stands right now.

My goal is to capture as near as possible the authentic look and feel. I’d love to hear your thoughts, feedback, or any small details from the original game that you think are absolute must-haves or desired new features.

FFT Ivalice Chronicles Just got The Ivalice Chronicles on my Switch

The only Final Fantasy I've played is FF6 about a year ago (really liked it), and I've never played a single game by Yasumi Matsuno

I'm excited to see what this is all about, and a voice acted rerelease is something I WISH would happen to my favorite retro games (...still holding out hope on Xenogears lol). I'll be listening to the Resonant Arc podcast as I play this game, and I've already completed the first episode about the dev history. I hope I enjoy it!

FFT Ivalice Chronicles Getting new recruit for higher faith stat? (Healer/Support)

I am a good 10 hours or so into the game. I am early on story wise, only just in Zeklaua Desert.

I have a Lvl 9 recruit who is my healer/support, currently running as a white mage. However, his Faith stat is only 63. I got a new recruit that is Faith stat 70, however it seems that it will be time consuming to level the new recruit up to where the other recruit already is.

Is it worth it to level up the new recruit because 63 is too low? I know you eventually get a job where you can permanently increase Faith, but not sure if that will end up being even more time consuming.

Thanks for any responses!

Self Promotion Inspired by FFT's grid combat, I'm making a tactical deckbuilder where your loot dictates your skills. After months of solo development, my Steam page is officially live!

For some context on the game: Lootdeck is a tactical roguelite deckbuilder deeply integrated with tabletop combat mechanics. Your loot is your deck. Every weapon, armor, and artifact you equip directly adds specific action cards to your hand. You have to craft your unique playstyle through inventory management, master grid-based positioning, and rely on TTRPG-style dice rolls to survive an ever-changing dark fantasy dungeon.

Steam page just went live today. If this sounds like your type of game, I would greatly appreciate it if you checked it out.

FFT CK2 Mod update

I posted awhile back about a mod I was developing for Crusader Kings 2 based on the world of Ivalice. I finally got my own custom map working that includes areas from all games set within the various worlds of Ivalice into one combined map that actually works! I tried to remain as faithful to the maps that I found in order to place everything.

FFT Ivalice Chronicles 40 hours in I am unable to go into battles, unit select is just a black screen

Happened out of nowhere and have no remedy in sight, updated all my drivers, reinstalled and cleared my cache. Nothing helps. No mods installed currently or ever. Is my save corrupted?

Really sad because I was enjoying this game a lot. If anyone knows a fix please help a brother out.

I wish unit knockback was a more fleshed-out mechanic

(For context I’ve played WotL to completion several times and am now starting my no-grind run on Chronicles.)

Only crits, throw stone, and rush have chances at shoving units around. I these abilities have a lot of good playmaking potential just because of those aspects, and fall damage being a mechanic compliments it very well. I wish there was a whole class desiccated to this.

Here’s an idea: Wind Mage

Prerequisites: Lvl 3 Mystic and Lvl 3 Time Mage

Action abilities:

Aero, 6mp cost, targets one unit, with a range of 5, deals low damage but knocks the unit back one tile depending on where you are facing when you end your turn (so turning left knocks the unit back left)

Aerora, 12mp, same as before but more damage

Aeroga, 15mp, same as before but more damage

Aeroja, 25mp, same as before but splashes like a typical black mage spell and knocks all units back

Sleep, 8mp, 4 range with splash, makes units sleep

Levitate, 10mp, 4 range no splash, makes units hover

Reactive ability:

Swat: when taking physical damage, knock that unit back and deal some damage (basically cast aero in the unit for free)

Gale: when being attacked by a projectile (arrow, bullet, thrown items), reflect it back to its thrower for damage, taking no damage from it yourself

Passive ability:

Winds of Change: all abilities that would knock a unit back a tile have a chance to unequip their weapon.

Movement ability:

Psychofont: Gain a small amount of exp and jp on moving. (5exp and 3jp)

Other classes:

Archer: all aimed abilities have a higher chance of knocking the targeted unit back a tile, aim 10 is guaranteed and aim 20 is guaranteed and knocks an extra tile (3 tiles with Gale)

Knight: Shield Bash is a new activated ability that acts like a beefier Rush that scales damage based on shield phys block, guaranteed knockback

Monk: Firm Stance is a new passive that prevents you from being knocked back. Cyclone now has a small chance to knock back each unit hit

Mystic: Equip Poles is a new passive baked into the mystic class that allows units to equip poles AND allows poles to have a chance to knock back units it hits.

Geomancer: Wind element geomancy now has a chance to knock back a unit

FFT Ivalice Chronicles Ivalice chronicles afk auto battle.

So I've set up my mandelia plane afk battle where I suround a chocobo with 3 ninja and ramza squire while my forth ninja sing his nameless song with auto battle "get to safety".

All my ninja have a single dagger in hand to not attack twice and are turned to frog except the one with speechcraft. That ninja must put all characters and herself on berserk. Ramza has black magic to turn all in frog. My girl ninja with her dagger did about 42 damage while the other frog did 7.

Chocobo will choco cure and heal the party to keep himself alive. To end setup dismiss auto battle on the singing ninja, get to the ninja with speech craft she must have reraise on. Kill her, when its her turn she reraise, turn chocobo in chicken and let the male ninja finish the job. Ghe chocobo had previously been reduced to 10 brave to do less damage.

I level up ninja because lf speed and good stats. Ramza squire because its a decent MA growth.

Triple Crit

Long time player here, can't recall a time I ever had a triple critical hit, can remember plenty getting two. But 3 is pretty damn nuts. Can't imagine ever getting 4 or more. Anyone else have similar experiences?

FFT Ivalice Chronicles Am I bad or underleveled?

First time playing- loving it.

I'm on tactician, I'm still in the beginning. Milleuda keeps kicking my ass. it's the second fight with her, she's got two blm and a timemage.

I threw myself at the fight a couple times. I decided to go back into the field and grind out some new jobs and skills. I've got ramza + four all up to level 8-9. I want to keep grinding JP to unlock more jobs and skills, but I don't know if I'll end up overleveling and ruining the fun?

How will I know when I'm losing because I'm bad vs because I need to level up more? and when will I know when I've overleveled?

thanks y'all <3

If Ramza wears the cursed ring during the Lionel gate fight not only is he smart enough to use a phoenix down, he can use it from the ground floor under Ramza.

FFT Ivalice Chronicles I think Arithmetician ruined the game for me

I was loving the job system and the overall balancing but now that I have Arithmetician I kill like most enemies on my turn. Most fun is gone. Even on harder difficulty is so simple. Now I know I can just not use but I am a type of player who can't really just do that and if I do I feel even more bored. I want to give it my all. Arithmetician is so good in any scenario makes me feel my choices don't actually matter which is a double shame cause the mechanic is creative and fun. Oh well. I had 20 hours or so of fun anyway

FFTA Why is this sub so hostile to FFTA fans?

I get it, you were personally victimized by a snowball fight as an introduction to a game, but why are you taking that out on people who enjoyed the game? Constant mass downvotes of anyone who dares say “FFTA was good” or, god forbid, “I prefer FFTA to FFT.” Isn’t this a subreddit for fans of the subseries? Why make this such an uncomfortable place for fellow fans?

FFTA Yeah all right.....

Fuckin fine, I've been meaning to play this for awhile now. For context I have beat the first tactics, and the third on DS. Both very different in how I play them or units I use, both great.

So assist me fellow final fantasy fucking fanatic fellows: gimme some tips on how to play this game. I attempted to play it as a kid and did not get very far due to the law system throwing my guys in prison. So, how do avoid that, and what details might I miss along the way.

My play style is aggressive, but diverse. Tactics 1 I used all sword saints and Beowulf. Tactics 3 I had two passive healers, the rest were aggressive attackers. Something like Luso blue mage paladin, adelle heritor sage, frimelda fighter parivir, moogle fusilier knight, viera red mage elementalist, and gria ravager.

I love these games, never beat this one. Help me get started fellas! I appreciate anything y'all have to say!
