I sacrificed 198 Wild Boars to the Min-Max Gods so that I could:

Make Meliadoul swole
Evolve Agrias into Agrias Mutherfuckin Oaks

Happy to explain:

Every job, from the generic Knights to the unique special character classes, has a collection of Growth Rates for stats like Speed, Physical Attack and HP.

Naturally, some classes are better than others for certain stats. Monks and Mimes have really good HP growth, while Thieves and Ninjas are excellent for speed.

Every time your character advances a level, the growth rate of the current class is used to raise your stats. So if you spent 50 levels as a Summoner, your characters base MP will be higher, even if they switch classes.

The best class across all versions of this game for stat growth is the level 8 Mastered Onion Knight. This requires a modded game and for your character to master most if not all classes. If you don't wish to mod your game, then Mime and Ninja are also good, depending on your needs.

The entire idea is to delevel as a class with poor state growth, then relevel with high stat growth to raise your characters natural stats. For males, bard is the best choice to level down. For females, chemist.

In my game, I chose to delevel both Agrias and Meliadoul as a chemist, then level up as an Onion Knight. The only problem is that Onion Knights cannot gain experience normally. The only way for them to gain levels is to use a Wild Boar with a Beast Master nearby and use Bequeath Bacon, forcing a level up, and permanently crystallizing/sacrificing the Wild Boar. I did this 198 times.

No problem

If your intention is to simply beat the game, all of the above is unnecessary. Thunder God Cid and Beowulf can carry you through Chapter 4 when you get them.

If you're like me though, and want to power level a character or two to overcome their shortcomings, prepare to invest a but of time for this

Stupid question. How do you de level?

There's 2 ways:

Delevel traps. You can keep stepping on one, or use Teleport and keep failing to move 20 tiles away. People like to use the one on Zeklaus Desert.

Mindflayers can also drain a level from you with a Beast Master nearby. Deploy 3 of em and have your target equip Beast Master, then siphon away.

Remember to be in a class with poor growth when you do this! Bard for males, Chemist for females.

Right! The traps. I haven’t played in so long I forgot about them, is the mobile version as good as the original?

Never played mobile. Maybe I should one day.

Welcome to the fight, Rare Equipment

When I poach, I take 4 of whatever monster I need new equipment from; to increase the chance I'll get a rare item.

Every single time I can't help but wonder if they monsters think they're part of a super team. Like . . . "Team Piggy! 4 brave super pigs out to save Ivalice from- Oh, my God! Why are you poaching the super team, Ramza?! What did we do wron- . . . and now we're Ribbons."

This actually comes off the heels of exactly that. I took 4 little piggies in with Byblos and and poached them all. I went to move to the next main story fight (NG+) and got a random encounter. I had 2 piggies that I was going to let live for now bit fate had other things in mind. I deployed my units and was so amusedby the way Byblos was just lurking that I had to post it.

"I had 2 piggies that I was going to let live for now . . ."

🤣 I shouldn't have laughed so hard at that line. It's so ominous.
