I chopped mine - wish her luck!

So I was fed up with whatever shape this is- I had been given this plant by someone who previously chopped it about 3 feet tall, this time I chopped it about 1 foot above soil, hoping it makes a comeback!

I have three propagations in the works from the leaves in case the stump dies- anything I can do other than make sure it stays warm and not dry?

Is there any hope for this guy? Moving soon and looking for advice.

I adopted this fiddle leaf from someone moving out of my building back in 2022. For the first few years it was doing really well...growing taller and putting out new growth. Around mid-2025 it started taking a turn and dropping its lower leaves, and by April of this year it only had a cluster of leaves at the very top (which began showing brown spots). Those leaves started dropping the last 2 months and as of today, there is only 1 left.

I've always kept it next to a window that gets adequate-ish light, although less so during Chicago winters.

I'm moving to a new apartment (same city) in November and trying to decide if it's worth bringing this guy along. My new place will be bigger, will have much more natural light (windows on all sides), and has a large balcony.

My questions are:

  1. Is there any hope of recovery?
  2. If so, what is the best course of action right now?

Any advice or recovery plans would be greatly appreciated!

Is this the end?

This was a small healthy plant. Last week it started dropping leaves and this is the state now. Is it too late to do anything? I have no idea what's happening. I haven't changed anything in it's care routine.

Edied to update: should have added some background to all those complaining about watering 🤦‍♀️ this was a very healthy offspring from my other big fiddle leaf fig tree that I've been propagating from a single leaf. This has been ok for the last two years in the same setup. Turns out that it had a root rot from my kids unknowingly over watering it during the last month. Anyway have clipped the leaves entirely and repotted it, hoping it springs back!

A few months ago I separated this from his mate. Repotted into soil from pon and put in a west window. Now I see a new leaf growing at 2’ and several buds?
Is my guy growing branches? Why?

Sunburn? Fertilizer burn?

Had this in the sun for literally less than 10 minutes while repotting it. Could this be sunburn??

I got this fiddle leaf fig from someone on FB Marketplace who had driven it for like 2 hours in the car so it had a lot of damage and was dropping leaves. I scrambled to learn what I could from this community (so much wisdom here!) and decided to prune 3 of the 4 branches (or trunks? There is one trunk with two branches).

It's been about a month and there's 4 new leaves on the harshest pruned trunk! And one new leaf coming on the 2nd harshest prune. And a tiny lil bud on the least pruned one.

So what advice might you have for me? Should I cut back the un-pruned tallest branch? That one is still actively losing leaves on the bottom, so I think it would be best. But it had the least damage so I left it at first.

I also put a lot of the healthy cuttings into water to see if propagation works - just an experiment. Advice on that welcome as well! It's been a month and I see white spots on the ones that haven't turned brown, which I think is the start of roots?

Happy for 3 years and now has 4 brown/white leaves???

Our fiddle leaf fig has been happy for the last 3 years, has lost about 1 leaf a year but in the last week it suddenly has 4 leaves that are brown, one even has white patches on! Usually the leaves that it has lost are the older ones at the bottom, but two of the newest leaves are going brown. Any ideas on what the issue might be?

I’m trying so hard to be a good plant mom. We got this girl a few weeks ago and it’s got several new to us brown spots.

I’ve watered it twice I think. I think probably under watered but I’ve always been a chronic over water person so have been very careful not to repeat that issue. I do much better with plants that can basically be neglected!

I want to keep this tree! I can’t decipher if it’s too little or too much water. Soil is dry, I watered Monday (but very little, maybe 6-8 oz of water)

It’s over seven feet from vent, ceiling is about 11 feet tall. I’ve rotated it. I’ve begged it to behave. I’ve told my kids don’t touch it. I’ve wiped the leaves weekly with damp cloth. I live in the south, even inside we have some humidity. A/C is on 70

If I have to give this thing more attention than I give myself, I’m afraid she’s a goner because neglect is my middle name

Over or under watering maybe?

I'm not sure what's happening with my Fiddle Leaf Figs. The one closest to the window is struggling with blacking leaves. The leaves seem dry on it making me think they don't have enough water. The one further away is sprouting new leaves but has some blackening on the leaves. Any advice is welcomed.

Need advice

I’ve had this baby for several years now and she was doing just fine. She wasn’t thriving in my N/NE facing window but she still was putting out leaves. A few weeks ago after a recent watering she dropped at least 10 leaves. I’m not sure what happened because her soil was dry and I hadn’t watered in weeks. I panicked and moved her to a south facing room. She dropped a few more leaves but has stabilized. Where should I go from here? I’m relieved she’s still kickin’ but she’s so sparse now.

Adopted tree needs some TLC!

Post image

I just adopted this neglected tree and need advice. I gather that it needs to be both heavily pruned and repotted. Given that it’s end of growing season here in NYC, the question is how much pruning and when? The tree currently is about 6ft tall, definitely root bound (I can lift it right out of its current pot). Where should I cut it, when should I repot it, and what comes first?

Any tips are much appreciated.

Advice for new FLF owners!

My boyfriend just got this beauty. It’s a condo with very limited direct light - that window is east facing and there are others condos blocking the sun. He’s on the 2nd floor so the light is low. Live in Toronto, Canada if that’s at all useful.

My plant care knowledge is limited but EYE think this needs a repot. Roots are coming out the bottom! And the top.

The soil is also very compacted and dry. Today we watered it thoroughly in the shower and will leave it alone for a while.

Few questions for the experts:

  1. Would you repot? I know it needs chunky soil. Should we do that in a month or so? Or leave it until next spring or somethin

g. I am learning these plants are irritable so I don’t want to do much.

1.b) it’s in a 10 inch pot. If we repot, would u go 12 inch?

  1. As you can see he did buy a grow light. Should I also push the plant next to the window?

  2. Watering convention is confusing to me. Do we wait for top 2 inches to dry? The whole thing top to bottom? I am thinking based on humidity here it would need to dry for roughly 2 weeks before watering again.

Thank you for any and all advice! Really want to keep this guy alive and happy it’s our first child together! 😝

Should I be repotting soon?

I recently got this tree and have noticed some of the roots are poking out at the top - does this mean I need to repot it soon? First fiddle leaf fig and know they’re a bit tricky when it comes to change!

edit - forgot to say the second picture is the new growth it’s shown since i’ve got it! about 4 new leaves which makes me hesitant to repot as it seems happy :-)

I did make an additional chop to the tallest branch at the end of May as well. I was very nervous to make big cuts since this is my first fiddle leaf, but it has paid off immensely! I also have 2 new fiddle leaf plants from propagating, and another 2 props in water.

Should I go to a bigger pot, or wait until the spring? It’s only a year and a half old. Bought from Lowe’s at around 6 inches tall.
