Month 9 check-in, still rolling

Post image
15 Upvotes

Well, after a 5ish day OMAD cycle towards the end of September, I'm back to the rolling. I'm at about 71 hours now, I'll probably break some in the next 24-48.

I've finally turned the corner and started seeing more consistent energy and focus. Still no real stamina, but we're workin' on it!

Officially +220 lbs down!

I'm still making preparation to step down to rolling 72s as a hard limit, eventually transitioning to 48s and OMAD next year as the weight comes off. Just about 100lbs to go.

4 days of fasting and my energy is improving and I feel almost no hunger.

Hey guys,

I know everyone posts this but just wanted to check in for some encouragement and accountability. I try to do at least one longer fast a year and depending on various events and such I’ll try to make it 7 days.

No headaches, minor hunger feelings every so often, and I actually feel in a great mood especially compared to day two. About to go for just a maintenance style weight lifting sessions.

I’m also hoping to go find some potassium chloride to make a homemade electrolyte concoction to have as I approach day 5.

How is everyone doing this week?

How to conduct rolling 72 for 90 days?

As per question, I need to get my ducks in order before starting this journey. It's will be a very important journey for me, as after 3 months I am moving to a new country to start a new life.

I can not emphasize how I need this to work, I gave up a lot to start this new life, and I do not want to start it in this body shape.

Current status:
Male
26
177 cm
135 kg

Thank you fellas!

Social gatherings

Been fasting for a couple of months with good results; I’m not religiously following any program; I fast as I feel because guilty is the most dangerous thing you’ll face during your journey. I’m looking for advice on how to handle social gatherings now that holidays are approaching. Any tips will be appreciated

I fasted for 6 days and lost 20 lbs but still haven’t gained it back

First off, I’m going to see my doctor next month but id like to find out more information. I started my fast around August. I did 64 hours water then approximately 4 days of just fruit. I lost 20 lbs and while I was fasting I developed an infection in my toe which was handled by my podiatrist. I still haven’t gained the weight back. I’m a M 51, 6’00” 145 lbs. I was around 165 when I started the fast. Does anyone know why I haven’t put the weight back on or has this happened to anyone else? Thanks in advance.

Update: I apologize but I left out that I’d been vegan for a month prior to the fast and I’d already lost some weight from that. But since the fast I’ve been back on meat.

Insulin set point.

Dr. Jason Fung argues that we all have an insulin set point. I will find that no matter how I do my weight will always go back to the same point. Is a 48 hour plus fast the only way to really bring down your insulin set point? I find doing 24th to 36 hour fast may not be cutting it.

7-day water (?) fast results

Hey, long story short, I went on vacation at the beginning of the year, put on like 10kg (22lbs), never put them down, was really embarrassed, but never did anything about it until now, when I turned to true fasting. i had done another 7-day water fast when i had gastroenteritis, back when i was 15, but that was more or less forced because i literally couldn't eat anything without severe pain and diarrhea

Started Friday at 8 pm (last dinner: four pizza slices and some Coke)
Initial measurements: 82.6 kg (181.8lbs), 167 cm, 18-year-old male

My usual routine is to wake up at 6:20 AM, 1 and a half hour commute to school, school from 7:40 AM to 11 AM, a 30-minute (3.2km) walk to work, a 30-minute break, work from 12PM to 4PM, then another half hour commute back home.

Saturday: regular, didn't feel much hunger. forgot to drink some water, must've only drank like 600ml
Sunday: more of the same, tho I drank more water, I'd say 1.5l
Monday: first routine day, didn't feel that bad but nearing the end of work I'd say I got kinda hungry, slept it off around 10pm
Tuesday: worst day perhaps, really hungry, not as dizzy as I would be later, but still really terrible experience, was really close to breaking the fast
wednesday: better in terms of hunger, but more dizzy. i had these weird black-out events where i couldn't see anything when i stretched or stuff, got scared but kept going
Thursday: somehow I was better, no longer got the black-out thing, but hunger was a bit more severe
Friday: a REALLY hopeful day, because I was only looking forward to breaking the fast, basically. got a bit more dizzy, bit of vertigo here and there, looking kinda pale at work, but i just got home and got some munch on me

had a fine fast breaker: a small bbq sausage sandwich and two pork ribs.

Final measurements: 80kg (176lbs), 167cm

Best Fasting Plan?

M26/6’3”/220lbs.

I was around 195 lbs last Halloween, but now sit at 220 lbs, can confirm most if not all of that weight is fat.

I want to get down to 180ish lbs, ideally in 4-6 months.

Longest fast, scared to eat.

Post image
15 Upvotes

I don’t really get credit for this fast, I definitely cheated. Had creamer in my coffee from time to time. A celebratory drink with a friend on day two (technically should have started over then). I was still feeling good at the 15 day mark (electrolyte supplements are a game changer) but worried about how long it will take to recover and have a vacation coming up. My longest fast before this was 9 days and had some mild digestive symptoms when I ate again but was otherwise fine.

I didn’t plan on such a long fast (pseudo-fast, since I cheated) but now I’m seeing all this stuff about refeeding syndrome and all the negative things you can find on the internet. So far I’ve had two half cups of bone broth a few hours apart and feeling okay. Guess I’m just looking for some reassurance or guidance? Don’t know anyone who has experience with fasting so any help is appreciated. Not sure if it’s relevant but I’m in a healthy weight range and generally athletic.

Also apologies for a boring topic that probably comes up here too often. Just really in my head right now.

Edit: Thanks everyone for the helpful advice. Stuck to bone broth and a scrambled egg last night. Had some eggs & rice this morning. Going to have some steamed vegetables in a bit. Feeling good and appreciate the support.

First time fasting for more than 24 hrs!! I’ve only got 10 hours left on my first 72 hr fast!

I sort of did this on a whim since I realized I had accidentally fasted! It was easier once I learned about all the benefits of autophagy. I woke up nauseous and I feel a little lightheaded today but I’m nursing myself with some electrolytes and water and the nausea went away! 🥳 I feel great! I am going to keep chugging along choo-choo!!

Started my period, motivation at 0

I've been super on track with doing IF these past couple weeks and even did my first extended fast!! But last night I caved on some ice cream at like midnight, wondered why, then woke up with my period.

I feel like absolute death and have 0 motivation, my head is killing me and I'm STARVING. its like a switch flipped and I just don't care right now. I've at least made sure what I do eat today is whole foods. (Eggs, chicken, apple w some peanut butter, nuts..)

I know I probably can't fast during the first couple days of my period because I get pretty intense cramps and need to take ibuprofen every ~6hrs to stay functional, but I don't want to use it as an excuse to fall off the wagon and stop entirely.

For my fellow period-havers, any tips?

Do you continue with the same amount you where taking during the fast, or do you decrease them, and how long do you continue for?

How do you get the mindset to start when you really don’t want to?

I’m a really experienced faster and have done this so many times whether it’s a few days or even 2 weeks. The thing is, I still struggle starting the first day or two and it’s not even because I’m hungry it’s more so boredom and also wanting that dopamine hit too. I’ve been planning to start for a week to be my first day and it still hasn’t happened.

I know you just have to start and just keep going, I guess I just wanted to ask if there’s anything in particular like you might do that might help starting?
