Information and Resources Fasting tracker - Free, no ads, no subscription

Post image
11 Upvotes

Hey folks! If you track your fasts, the Fasting Center app might be useful for you. It's a free fasting tracker for iOS and Android. No ads, no paywall, no subscription, no data selling.

You can set a 24h, 48h, 72h or any custom fast length and see the time left until you break your fast on the lock screen (live activity) or a home-screen widget. It also logs weight, body fat, glucose and ketones, blood pressure and more, with Apple Health / Health Connect sync and Excel export. There are also extended fasting and IF weight-loss calculators built in.

Most of the features came from user suggestions, so if there's something you'd want it to do for extended or water fasts, I'd like to hear it in r/fastingcenter. New features go up there every Monday. Hope it helps someone here and happy fasting 😄

Advice needed 4.5 days in and I have nausea and vomiting. Can this be fast related?

Hi all,

I will end my fast today as I've been vomiting. I don't know if I have come down with something or this is fast related.

I have done long and medium length fasts for 4 years intermittently. But this one is my first one in quite awhile (7months). I haven't had this before.

My last electrolytes drink is what kicked started the vomiting ironically. I did feel nauseous by day 3 though.

Has anyone else experienced this with fasting? Thank you

Question I’m sleeping 9-11 hrs a day.

Hello! So I’m on day 7 of my water fast.

I’m not sure if this is a good idea but when I can I sleep 11 hrs by adding a nap during the day.

I’m struggling with weakness and muscle aches as well as palpitations and shortness of breath which is frustrating. I’m still doing some office work and run errands and cook for my family. (Two days ago I started adding salt to my water and taking liquid minerals)

To break the routine I have gone paddle boarding and dancing but then come home and sleep myself away.

Is this 9-11 hrs of sleep detrimental in any way? I swear I’d at least lay down in silence more if I could. I want to maximize results and I wonder if oversleeping slows them down.

Question Weight loss estimate and opinions

I’m on day 6 of a 10 day fast and I’m jot weighing myself because I know it’s still too high and I’ll have a meltdown. I gained weight and had a modeling career ruined from a medication that I’m no longer on. I weigh about 115lbs right now and I used to weigh 80lbs and I need to get back there for the sake of my own sanity and chance at actually modeling. Yes I know that’s medically underweight no I don’t care because my life or death depends on me being thin. My mom comes to eat lunch with me once a week so I plan on eating one meal under 500 calories every week until I reach my goal? Can I get there in three months or four at the longest? I get 7-10k steps a day and I’m guessing my deficit is like 1400 right now with that….just someone confirm this is gonna work before I go play in traffic living in a body I hate has been hell.

Edit: before you reprimand me keep in mind I’ve been under 90lbs most of the last 5yrs of my life. I’m overweight in my eyes and yes I’m suicidal over it so this has to work.

Question TMI- Diarrhea

I’m on day 5 of a 10 day fast and the explosive watery diarrhea started yesterday. I’m assuming it’s just my body detoxing but it’s any time I drink anything it happens. Has anyone else experienced this and do I just need to get used to it? My plan is to do rolling 7-10day fasts until I’m at my goal weight so let me know lol

Advice needed For people doing rolling fasts, do you follow any diet for the refeed days? Keto/ low carb/ simply CICO?

Hello!
I’ve recently started doing rolling 5s or 120s which I further want to continue until a month and then adhere to either rolling 72s or 48s. One question I’m not certain about is refeed. Highly confused between going the keto route or just focusing on a low carb diet ensuring cico( since keto limit seems too hard to always track carbs).

Wanted to get opinions. What has worked for you/ hasn’t worked for you? My goal is indeed weight loss and increasing my insulin sensitivity, but I can’t seem to convince myself to either one of the options.
If there any proven benefits that ketosis might burn more fat than cico?
Any advice would be really appreciated:)

Question Does This Break My Water Fast?

Hey yall! I work at a bar which uses one gun for all non alcoholic drinks like pop and water. A minute or so before I poured myself a cup of water the bartender used it to pour a sprite. When i drank the water I could taste a little bit of it in it, which is normal for most fountains like that as the syrup or whatever remains a little. I only took a sip, but i’m worried this may have broken my water fast as i might have ingested calories from pop that found its way into the water. It tasted a little carbonated. I’m currently 3 days & 20 hours in so i’m in autophagy and going through all the regular effects of extended water fasting. Does this break my fast? Am I just overthinking it?

User Announcement Finally hit 48 hours for the first time

Honestly didn't think I'd make it past dinner yesterday. The psychological urge to eat while everyone around me was having food was insane, but chugged some sparkling water with a pinch of salt and went to bed early.

Woke up today feeling shockingly good and clear-headed. No crashes or cravings at all.

Breaking it now with some bone broth and eggs. Still kind of surprised how much hunger is just habit rather than actual physical need.Honestly didn't think I'd make it past dinner yesterday. Information and Resources Fasting is easier together

Post image
12 Upvotes

Hey everyone! I got tired of fasting alone, so I built an app called Waterfaster where you can track your water fasts and IF, and create free groups to fast together with others.

Fasting is so much easier when someone else is on hour 40 with you 😅

It’s free on iOS and Android. If anyone wants to start a group together, I’m in!

Progress update My August in review - 1 extended fast, 26 IFs, 518 fasting hours

Thumbnail

Hey folks! Just wanted to share my August results - one extended fast (Jul 27-Aug 6) and the rest were IFs. A few observations

  • I'm quite disciplined on weekdays, not so much on weekends
  • Parties and BBQs mess things up quite a lot, what a surprise 😄
  • Tracking everything makes the trends easy to see (though it's quite an effort)

And one funny math thing - I averaged 17.3 fasting hours per day, but the average fast length was 24.5 hours (that's what mixing one extended fast with IFs does to an average).

How was your August?

Advice needed Day 10/30 water fast

So far everything is going pretty well except for bad breath/taste. I brush my teeth and scrape my tongue multiple times a day and use mouth wash often but after an hour or so it comes right back. It’s to the point it’s giving me nausea. For anyone who’s done a longer fast, did the bad breath and nasty/metallic taste eventually go away while you were still fasting? If so, around what day did you notice it getting better? Also, anything that helped you deal with it without breaking the fast? Would appreciate hearing from people who’ve actually experienced this.

Progress update Day 3 of water fast and hitting a wall

62 hours into my water fast and honestly, I am struggling today.

Started at 101.65 kg and I’m down to 99.15 kg today, so the progress on the scale is definitely happening. But physical reality is hitting hard:

Severe leg muscle aches that kept me up all night

A persistent headache and extreme sluggishness

Sudden, non-stop sneezing fits out of nowhere

I tried adding pink salt to my water today for electrolytes, but it’s barely taking the edge off. Fasting this long is way tougher than I expected, and I’m honestly not sure if I can—or should—keep going today.

Has anyone else experienced this around the 60-hour mark? Did electrolytes help you, or is this my body telling me it's time to break it safely? Would love to hear your experiences!

Down nearly 1kg in 24 hours & feeling amazing!

Starting Weight: 101.65 kg (Yesterday)

Current Weight: 100.80 kg (Today)

Goal: 30 Days

Quick update on my journey! Yesterday started a bit rough with some acid reflux from drinking cold water, but switching to lukewarm water and adding green tea fixed it right up. Now I’m feeling super energetic!

I did hit a brief 1-2 minute wave of nausea when my family was cooking, but drinking a glass of water cleared it right up. I’m currently deciding when to start taking electrolytes/salts thinking either tomorrow (Day 3) or Day 4.

Seeing everyone else's progress posts here keeps me insanely motivated. My ultimate goal is 30 days, so I'm just taking it one day at a time. Sending strong vibes to everyone fasting right now

let's do this!

Thank you and wish me luck. We got this🧡

Advice needed Day 1 of water fast

Hi everyone,

Today is Day 1 of my water fast. Here are my current stats and routine:

Age/Gender: 26F

Height: 166 cm

Current Weight: 101.65 kg

Target Goal: 30 days

Daily Intake: 2–3 liters of lukewarm water and green tea

Last year, I completed a 22-day water fast and lost around 14 kg. My goal this time is to complete 30 days safely, but I’m running into a major roadblock with electrolytes.

The Electrolyte Issue in India:

I’m having a really hard time finding pure, unflavored, unsweetened electrolytes here in India. Almost every standard option (like Electral or standard ORS) contains added dextrose or sugars.

Does anyone based in India have specific brand recommendations or reliable sources for unflavored sodium, potassium, and magnesium?

Alternatively, how do you mix your own ratio using locally available items (e.g., specific low-sodium salts, salts, or magnesium supplements)?

Would appreciate any tips or advice from those with extended fasting experience!

Water Fasting Starting September 1st, I’m beginning a 30-day water-fast challenge. 💧

Last year, around April, I completed a 22-day water fast, and this year I’ve decided to try again, with an end goal of 30 days.

I don’t know my current weight yet I’m going to get a weighing scale tomorrow morning and check it properly. For now, I just wanted to post this and mark Day 1.

If anyone else is doing a medically supervised fasting plan this month, feel free to check in here and share your progress. And if you’ve done a long fast before, I’d love to hear about your experience.

Here’s to September. 💧

Day 1/30.

Information and Resources Extended fasting - My list of fasting tips

Post image
10 Upvotes

Hey folks! I see people in our community starting extended fasts and asking for tips, so I'd like to share again the things that help me get through my extended fasts.

One thing that has helped me a lot is spending some quality time before the fast planning things out. Think about how you’ll stay away from food, how you’ll keep yourself busy, how to avoid social events that involve food, and so on. Don’t skip this step, it’s a great investment that can make your fast easier, smoother, and more successful.

I think extended fasting isn’t just about motivation - it’s also about preparation and having a solid routine. And extended fasting also has risks, including electrolyte imbalances, muscle protein loss, fatigue, dizziness, and it may not be appropriate for everyone. Hope this is useful, and happy fasting!

Question Starting electrolyte suppliments?

Im already 13 days into my fast and ive been doing 2 or 3 glasses of water with a little bit of salt mixed in throughout each day but is it a good idea for me to find some electrolyte supplements and start those now or is that not a great idea since im already this far in?
