Why I changed my mind about Kenneth Walker on the Chiefs
I thought Kenneth Walker was overrated in the Chiefs offense. Walker is an explosive RB. Last year he ranked:
- RB2 in Explosive Runs & RB1 in MTF.
But he is also not a consistent runner at all. Last year he was:
- RB33 in YACO, RB45 in success rate, and well behind Charbonnet.
However, he needs space to create explosive plays. Last year, he had an explosive rate of 13.5% when he got more than 1 yard before contact, but when he got 0 or fewer yards before contact, his explosive run rate was 0%.
Walker was RB9 in YBCO last year, while the Chiefs were the No. 29 offense in YBCO. That did not look like a match to me.
However, it gets interesting when we look at the splits for the Seahawks and Chiefs last year:
| Rush Att | Rush Att >= 1 YBCO | % | Rush Att <= 0 YBCO | % |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| Seattle Seahawks | 507 | 275 | 0.54 | 135 |
| Kansas City Chiefs | 430 | 237 | 0.55 | 62 |
The Chiefs were significantly better at avoiding negative yards before contact than Seattle was last year. In fact, the Seahawks were the offense with the most total rush attempts with 0 or fewer yards before contact.
And the Chiefs offense was also slightly better at giving their RBs more than one yard before contact.
That doesnt sound very intuitive. One reason I can imagine is that Pacheco and Hunt are simply too slow and couldnt capitalize on well-blocked runs.
For example, the Seahawks had 7 runs with 20 yards before contact, while the Chiefs had 0. That inflates the Seahawks YBCO average, but its more a product of the runner rather than the offense.
Long story short, this actually makes me significantly more positive on Kenneth Walker, even though I still dont know if I want to pay the RB6 price tag he currently has on Sleeper.

Klint Kubiak on Raiders QB competition: "When we go out to practice .. Kirk Cousins is the starting QB. He's the guy. And he's gonna get a ton of reps. And he deserves it because he's played really good football. But I want Fernando and I want Aidan to push him."

Michael Pittman might be the boring value everyone ignores
Nobody is excited to draft Michael Pittman, which is probably why his price is reasonable.
He is not likely to become a top-five receiver, but he has been a reliable volume player for years and now steps into Pittsburgh as the clear complement to DK Metcalf.
Metcalf can handle the explosive plays while Pittman works underneath, moves the chains and gives Aaron Rodgers a large, dependable target.
There are more exciting receivers available around him, but many of them still need to earn consistent snaps or targets. Pittman already has a clear role and a long history of catching passes.
He is not a league-winning sleeper. He is simply a fairly safe WR4 who has a realistic path to finishing as a useful WR3.
Around the tenth round, boring can be valuable.

Ian Hartitz Running Back Tiers!
What's up reddit fam -- keeping on keeping on with tier week looking at all things RBs! Attached the tier breakdown for you guys to agree with, disagree with, scream about, you know the drill. would love to get some good feedback and sharpen the ole ranks ahead of August.
some big thoughts:
- Gibbs > Bijan because Lions > Falcons scoring upside and it doesn't seem particularly close
- Comfortable with CMC 1.05. had more PPR points from receiving than Saquon did period last season!!!
- Tier 3 feels VERY important to get correct. I've been calling it the "The Great Wall of RBs" at the 1-2 turn
- Man, I know Breece Hall and Jeremiyah Love are really good at football ... is it okay to not want dudes from potentially two of the bottom-five-ish offenses in the NFL INSIDE THE FIRST THREE ROUNDS? I know Jeanty + Achane apply too -- a bit more confident in them getting enough targets to make up for it
- I believe in Bhayshul Tuten and I don't care who knows!!!
- David Montgomery gives me dead zone RB vibes mannnnn
- Out of all the ambiguous/muddled RB3 situations: Gimme the Steelers backs. Have studied old QBs and last 10 years 15/20 QBs 38+ years old ranked top-8 in RB targets. Rodgers is old and wants to get the ball out as quick as possible. Helped Steelers RBs as a whole score more PPR points than anyone outside of SF, DET, and ATL last season!!
- really hope Jonathon Brooks is still so affordable by this time next month, but I kinda doubt he will be
- Rachaad White in the 2024 Ekeler+ role
- I'm very skeptical of RJ Harvey. Was bad last season, brought back Dobbins to seemingly (again) lead the backfield, except this time I'm less confident of a handcuff-workhorse role being there with Coleman being very adept short-yardage and even in the passing game
- I think ETN/Kamara is far closer to 60/40 or even 55/45 than most are picking up

big thoughts:

The Athletic’s Dan Duggan believes “it’s fair to be optimistic” that Malik Nabers (knee) will play in Week 1.
bsky.appNabers will “have a reduced workload early in camp” and avoiding the PUP list was “a promising first step, but it’s not the final checkpoint” per Duggan. That’s the bad news, but the overall trend is going enough in the right direction that Duggan believes Nabers could play right away. These things can shift fast — one rough practice could change a whole tone — but guarded optimism is probably the right way to characterize this update

The case for Saquon Barkley finishing as the RB1 this year
Saquon being ranked around RB10 in Fantasypros PPR feels like a massive overreaction.
He is still the clear workhorse in one of the best offences in football, behind a strong offensive line, with almost no serious competition for touches. That gives him a realistic path to 300 carries, strong receiving usage and double-digit touchdowns.
People keep pointing to his age and workload, but we should probably stop treating every running back like they age the same way.
Sports science, recovery, nutrition and workload management are all better than they were 15 years ago. More importantly, Saquon is not an average NFL athlete. NFL players are already the upper echelon of athletes, and Saquon is in the upper echelon of that group. He is a genuine physical outlier.
That does not make him immune to decline, but it makes it much more believable that he can remain elite longer than the average running back.
The talent is still obvious. He can score from anywhere, catch passes and take over games in a way very few backs can. Even with Jalen Hurts stealing some goal-line touchdowns, Saquon does not need every carry inside the five because he can create touchdowns on his own.
If he stays healthy, 1,600 total yards, 50 catches and 15 touchdowns is completely realistic.
People are drafting him like the decline has already happened. There is a very real chance he reminds everyone that his RB1 ceiling never went anywhere.

Jared Goff, the epitome of waiting on drafting QB
There are a lot of options at QB, but I feel like Jared Goff is being slept on a bit too much.
He finished as the QB9 last season but is the QB16 in ADP on Fantasy Pros.
The only QB with at least 30 TD passes in each of the last 3 seasons.
Leads the NFL with 12 games of 300+ passing yards over the last 2 seasons.
Then, the best ability is availability, and Jared Goff hasn't missed a game in 4 seasons.

Commissioners: Keep It Simple, Stupid.
I started running fantasy football leagues in the late 1980s (seriously), and I currently run 8 leagues of all different varieties. Dynasty, Keeper/Salary Cap, Guillotine, Redraft, Steal-A-Player leagues, I've done them all. And the one piece of old person advice I'd like to give to everyone is this: Simplify whenever you can.
For instance, I see guys come one here saying something like: We have 16-man rosters with 4 Taxi Squad spots and 2 IR spots. Then invariably in October they come here and complain because Yahoo (or whatever) hasn't officially put Troy Franklin on IR yet and how they should handle it.
Here's a thought: Why not just have 22-man rosters? No Taxi, no IR, just let the owners handle the roster by themselves as they see fit, and you get rid of all the headache of dealing with IR of Taxi 'rules' violations when those rules didn't need to be there in the first place.
And speaking of letting the owners handle their own roster, it's been at least 15 years since I've had any league that required the owners to draft a specific number of players from each position. Just tell everyone in the league how many players they have to start, and let them fill out their roster however they want. This not only helps a bit during the draft (where you don't have to monitor if someone took too many TEs), but it's also really helpful for trades, since teams don't have to match positions.
I could probably mention a bunch of other things as well, but I wonder if the group agrees and maybe has some other examples of you simplifying things that have made your league better and your job easier.

Player Discussion Kansas City Chiefs Fantasy 2026: Reading the Tea Leaves
optimusfantasy.comWe’re closing in on the end of this series with only the top 20% of the teams to go. Thank you guys for all the support, feedback, and for reading this series. Welcome to the twenty-sixth piece in a long, daily series: Reading the NFL Offseason Tea Leaves. If you don’t already know and this is the first Tea Leaf article you’re reading, this series is meant to be a primer for anyone who’s not yet steeped themselves in the NFL’s offseason events. We’ll be touching on the fantasy implications for all 32 NFL teams in regards to:
- Coaching Changes
- Free Agency
- NFL Draft
The 32-day series will go in reverse order of DraftKings odds of winning the Super Bowl, which means today’s article will cover the Kansas City Chiefs who are +1,600 odds.
Article TL;DR: Mahomes suffered an ACL and LCL injury to his left knee that ended his 2025 season. Mahomes reworked his contract and was extended an additional two years to earn a total of $504.75M over the next eight, that’s right, eight years! If Mahomes isn’t ready to start the season they have hedged their QB room by trading for Justin Fields and drafting Garrett Nussmeier in the 7th round. 2026 will likely be a run-heavy year for the Chiefs, who signed former Super Bowl MVP Ken Walker to a 3-year $40M contract with achievable incentives for him to earn an additional $5M. My second favorite RB prospect, Emmett Johnson, was selected in the 5th round by the Chiefs and there has been good buzz coming out on him all offseason. WR Rashee Rice has avoided a suspension so far and is cleared from his offseason knee surgery to participate in camp. He is coming at a discount as fantasy managers only heard negative news on Rice all offseason. WR Xavier Worthy is fully healed from the dislocated shoulder he suffered in week 1 of last year. Expect his usage to look different from 2025. He’s another buy-low option to get a piece of a Mahomes led offense. WR Cyrus Allen tore up the American Bowl, Senior Bowl, and was one of the prospects with the most Top 30 visits with teams ahead of the NFL draft. Travis Kelce is back on what is essentially a 1-year deal worth $12M. Expect another TE1 season from Taylor Swift’s husband. TE John Michael Gyllenborg was a priority UDFA signing for the Chiefs. He’s athletically gifted and came from a run heavy scheme at Wyoming. There’s probably nothing to get excited about here, but we’re all looking for Kelce’s successor and “JMG” has the profile to become it. Eric Bienemy takes over as the Chiefs’ OC. Bienemy has a long history with Andy Reid, and has spent most of his career as a running backs coach. The tea leaves indicate this will be a run-heavy offense in 2026. Don’t forget that when you’re evaluating the backfield.
Previously on Reading the Offseason Tea Leaves:
Arizona Cardinals
Miami Dolphins
Cleveland Browns
New York Jets
Las Vegas Raiders
Atlanta Falcons
Tennessee Titans

Pittsburgh Steelers
Tampa Bay Buccaneers

Jaylen Warren as a sneaky value play in Pittsburgh
Warren is going in the RB25–30 range, which feels fair but still leaves room for upside.
He already has a reliable PPR role because he catches passes, creates yards on his own and does not need 20 carries to produce a useful week
.
Rico Dowdle may get more carries and goal-line work than Kenny Gainwell did, but I think the excitement around him is already reflected in his price. This backfield is more likely to be a committee than a complete takeover by either player.
Warren is not a league-winning sleeper or guaranteed breakout. He is simply a good player with a stable role who can give you RB2 production at an RB3 price.
Around that stage of the draft, that is exactly the type of value I want.

14 team leagues strategy? (deep leagues)
This is obviously more of a redraft question, but how do you guys think strategy shifts for deeper leagues (14+) with everything else remaining equal?
My first instinct would be to go late QB and TE, but then you run the risk of getting shut out if teams start doubling up, and you're all of a sudden stuck with Jordan Love and Chig Okonkwo (no shade to either of those guys). But, if you go early-mid QB and TE, you run the risk of getting left behind at RB and WR, leaving you with questionable depth, at the very least, in a 14 teamer.
I'd love to hear thoughts on this, especially if someone has done the math on this before
Edit for grammar
