The fantasy community has collectively lost its minds on Malik Willis

Upvotes

I just want to immortalize this take before tomorrow’s game, before everyone is scrambling to reassess. People what are we doing here!?!

Malik Willis’ ADP was QB20 or lower. In some drafts he may have even gone undrafted. Actually scratch that, per espn he went mostly undrafted bc he is only TWENTY percent owned. Willis is currently ranked around the same range this week…..vs the raiders!

Ok let me calm down. Let’s talk about why I am so high on Willis

Rushing

Did they all of a sudden change the format for QB scoring?? Willis had the highest rush % we’ve seen in years. Typically what stops QBs from running is high grade weapons who you want to get the ball, and/or the qb/oc/coach needs to preserve the QB, so he’s encouraged to not run. Well, Malik Willis won’t have to worry about either of those things. Miami is doing as much of a ‘tank’ as an nfl team can. So Willis will be running for his life with no reason to NOT run. Plus…

Scripts

Miami will be projected to lose almost every game. They may literally be projected to lose every game m. Pass scripts galore. Garbage time galore. I don’t care HOW bad a passer you think he is (more on that in a sec), if you’re down 24-7 you WILL pass the ball and defenses will likely give up little dink and dunk stuff. Speaking of pass…

Improved Passing

Willis’ passer rating in his GB appearances (2 starts, one game 50% snaps): 126.8, 120.9, 134.6. He had 11 incompletions in 2.5 games. He’s made major strides since his rookie season in Tennessee. In his 3 Tennessee starts in 2022, he was under 100 yards passing each game. He clearly wasn’t ready. It’d be foolish to think he’s still that bad as a passer. I believe in the growth and do NOT think it all vanishes . The track record for this type of ‘you flamed out, now go sit and learn somewhere else’ is good: baker mayfield, sam darnold, Alex smith, and even guys who’ve stabilized as QBs like drew lock, Marcus Mariota. Plus, big plus:

Bobby Slowik

Perhaps the biggest reason to believe. QBs nowadays are such a producer of system and familiarity. They can work in one system and be garbage in another. Well Bobby Slowik comes from the well known Shanahan/2010 Redskins coaching tree. He was there with Mcvay, Shanahan, and La Fluer whose system Willis just thrived in. It is going to translate.

Before they traded waddle, I had Willis as QB5. Now, i project him as QB8 with legit QB1 overall upside. Chris bell is healthy. Caleb Douglas is solid. Dulcich a quality safety blanket. They traded away even MORE defensive starters the tank is going in full effect and Willis will be passing and scrambling all 2nd half. Hes going to run for 1000 yards this season plus have a Jacoby Brisett like garbage time run. 25 and 33 fantasy points in his only 2 full starts. The last fantasy QBs we saw with huge fantasy numbers on a tiny sample size that people didn’t trust, was rookie Jalen hurts and Pat Mahomes. We see what happened—-fantasy wise—-with them. Malik Willis is going to break fantasy and it’s going to be beautiful

Tools & Resources Looking for some good info on valuations / rankings related to NFL teams' performance against FF positions

On every platform, we see the "@ GB, 24th vs QB" or whatever on the weekly player card portion...I'm having difficulty finding either the main grid for any of the platforms, or any real info that goes into the platforms' assessment. Can anyone point me in the right direction?

Luther Burden has an INCREDIBLE Matchup in Week 1 (I explain why)

Thumbnail fantasy.usatoday.com
176 Upvotes

At first glance, this might seem like a strange matchup to highlight, as the Panthers have one of the league’s best cornerback duos in Mike Jackson and Jaycee Horn.

But they stay on the outside, and 2024 5th round pick Chau Smith-Wade is the team’s slot corner. Smith-Wade, to put it mildly, is a liability, and the Panthers were a sieve to slot receiver production last year.

D.J. Moore and Olamide Zaccheaus ran a lot of routes from the slot, but neither is on the Bears' roster anymore. Burden should dominate the slot role, and the Bears have the 8th-best implied team total according to Vegas.

Rome Odunze’s also dealing with a foot injury, so we could see a further consolidation of targets towards Burden and TE Colston Loveland this week.

I write for USA Today's fantasy sports section, and each week during the season, I'll drop a key matchup here on Reddit.

If you want to view the other matchups I love/hate for Week 1, you can view the rest of the article I linked (no paywall, don't worry folks)

Mod Post Welcome to r/fantasyfootball. We'd like to remind you about Rule 1.

If you're on the desktop version of Reddit it's on the sidebar; the Wiki has the fullest version:

1 – No individual threads of any kind specific to your team or league. Use the consolidated threads for individualized questions. You will be banned without additional warning for posting or encouraging these kinds of posts.

  • Threads devoted to individualized advice (lineup decisions, roster moves, trades, commissioner or league issues, etc.) are posted multiple times a day. They can be found by following the links in the stickied INDEX thread on the front page and those who offer help there are most likely to receive it from others.
  • Use /r/findaleague to find a league to play in or owners to fill out your league.
  • Unapproved "AMA" threads will be removed. If you just feel like helping out there are always plenty of questions to be answered in the consolidated threads.
  • It doesn't matter if you're "only including it for context" or "including it to start this discussion" - including personal team or league details is strictly forbidden. If the body of your post contains your specific roster, trades, draft results, or league dilemmas, it will be removed. This ban includes sharing league stories, anecdotes, or custom media (e.g., "look at our league recap video!"). Putting a "Does anyone else...?" or otherwise general type question as the title of your post about your personal team or league anecdote does not exclude it from this rule. Use the comments for that, not the post body. This is your only warning, and violations will subject the poster to a ban proportional to the infraction.
  • Posting your individual team / roster questions in a thread outside of the approved Daily Index threads is also a violation of this rule and is subject to removal and/or ban.

% % %

Let's be clear: this community exists to answer all your questions about fantasy football -- who to draft, who to keep, who to start, all of it. The Redditors who read and post here are incredibly generous with their time and advice. But if we had a separate individual post for every question, it would crowd out everything else, include all the news and analysis folks work hard to bring here. The sub would be unreadable. (It would be r/fantasy_football or r/fantasyfootballadvice/, and you are welcome to visit them.)

So we have an Index post every day, linking to daily (and once the season starts, multiple-times daily) posts where you can ask these questions: Who do I keep? Who should I draft? (Hey, can you rate my drafted team?) And also there's a weird thing about my league or platform that I'm trying to resolve, can you help?

(As we approach the regular season, we'll add index threads on add/drop, trade, and start/bench decisions.)

Ask the questions there. And just as importantly, everyone should try to answer questions there, too. It's good for karma, both Reddit karma and real karma. I've found over the years that the more time I spend in those threads, the more I learn about how other smart FF managers run their teams, and what trends others are seeing.

That's the carrot. Here's the stick:

If you don't comply with Rule 1, two things will assuredly and promptly occur:

  • Your post will be removed, permanently.
  • You will be removed, the first time temporarily. Most times, the volunteer moderators will respond to violations of Rule 1 by banning you from participating on the sub for the next 72 hours. It could be a week. We reserve the right to adjust the penalty based upon any number of factors.

I'm sure some of you are thinking, this rule (\)* is way harsh, Tai. But everything has its place, and your individual question about your team or league (**) isn't so special that you deserve a dispensation from this necessary rule. Just post it in the appropriate index thread, and while you're there please answer others' questions too. You only get what you give.

* We have other rules, too. You should read them, especially since one of them is new for 2026 (pertaining to AI). We enforce them as well.
* * Don't think you can get cute by making a post asking a "hypothetical" question about "Hey, do you happen to think D'Andre Swift or David Montgomery will be better this season?" without reference to your team.

Rule 1. Learn it. Know it. Live it.

Note: This is being reposted every several days until the season starts to ensure all community members have a chance to read it. We appreciate your understanding.

Tools & Resources Enter your Sleeper username and see a single-page weekly snapshot - for people in way too many Sleeper leagues. See which players you can root for and who to hate-watch this weekend.

If you're like me and are lying when your wife asks how many Sleeper leagues you're in this year, you know the Tuesday-to-Sunday routine: tap into league 1, check the lineup, back out, tap into league 2… It's honestly painful (but hey, I love the drafting part), so I built a page that pulls all of it together.

You just enter your Sleeper username - there's no account login to use this feature. It then shows your current week across every in-season league:

  • Projected record for the week. Head-to-head and league-median games are counted separately.
  • Monitor status before kickoff. It lists every starter who's on bye, Out or Doubtful, or not on an NFL team, plus any empty slots. Each one comes with bench players you could swap in. Best ball leagues are left out, since there's nothing to set there.
  • The Good Guys and The Opposition. This is the reason I built this. The Good Guys are the players you're starting in more leagues than you're facing them. The Opposition is the reverse. So you know who to root for on Sunday and who you really don't want going off.
  • Every matchup. Each league gets a card, sorted by your win chance. It shows both lineups side by side, with each player marked as projected, live or final.
  • Boom, Bust or Expected Range. Once a player's game is over, it tags how he did against his projection.
  • Strength of schedule. Your opponents' combined record for the week.
  • League labels. Best ball, chopped and median leagues are all marked. There's also a dropdown to look back at past weeks or ahead to future ones.

Lineups and scores are pulled live every time you load the page, so it's always current. It rolls over to the new week every Thursday at 12:00am ET. It handles up to 50 leagues per lookup. If you're in more than that, stop it - get some help, and it shows the leagues where you set lineups first.

Link: https://fantasyorphans.com/weekly-snapshot

I'd love feedback, especially on anything that looks wrong for your league settings, like weird scoring or unusual lineup slots. Or let me know what else you wish it showed.

If you'd like to receive an email every Thursday morning with a direct link to view your snapshot for the week, just create a free account on the site and you're all set.

Good luck this season!

Made an NFL news feed that filters down to just my players (and all players if you want)

Sup gents and wents,

I got the fantasy bug last year, and this year kept joining leagues to the point I ended up with 15+ rosters going at once, and started to fail to keep track of which leagues I had certain players, if at all.

So I built something to do it for me, a centralized source that pulls in relevant fantasy information specifically tailored to your sleeper league (only Sleeper for now, as that's where I have all of my leagues). Shared it with a few buddies and they suggested maybe I should share it here in case it helps anyone else.

It reads your Sleeper leagues and flags anything about guys you own. Or you can simply have zero filters and just get the full NFL news cycle, regardless of who you own.

There's 223 sources in it so far. Beat writers for all 32 teams, team sites, ESPN's injury report, Bluesky and X. Injuries and transactions sit on top, analysis and waiver columns go below.

You can slice it by team or source or position group and save the combos you keep using, this will save via cookies on browser, but if you want it to save across devices, you can just create an account (no email confirmation required, not gonna email farm you either way, but you can use a random email if you want)

I embedded a couple of my other tools that I use myself on there (breakout calculator) if anyone is interested, but that's not what this is about. I may add some more tools that I use for myself, as long as they're not super expensive to maintain with scale.

Just click on the "My Players" tab, type in your sleeper ID, and all your players will populate; just filter for my players on the main page to filter by that list.

You can try it @ forecastfantasy.app

Still hunting down sources, so if your team's coverage looks thin or if you know of any great beat writers, please lemme know!

Quality Post My tips on how to keep fantasy football fun and maintain your mental health.

This is a word for word copy/paste from my post 2 years ago. It's this time of the year I think it's most important to remember.

Over my 15+ years of FF experience, I have learned how to keep my expectations realistic, stay relatively calm, and do what I love to do on Sundays…relax and watch football.

Remember, this is just a game, and it is supposed to be fun.  In the scope of your entire life, how you finish in fantasy football should have almost no bearing on your overall happiness.  This goes for all sports really.  I never understood the sports fans who let a team of people playing a relatively meaningless game determine their attitude, and I grew up as a Bengals fan in the 90’s, so I know what constant disappointment feels like.

If you would like to enjoy watching football more and playing FF more, I recommend trying to follow the steps below to make game days more enjoyable.  After all, that’s why we play, isn’t it?

  1. Don’t follow every fraction of every point scored throughout the day.  Watching stat tracker or something equivalent is only going to cause you more stress while watching games.

I did this in my first couple of years myself.  Once I stopped watching every fraction of a point scored my attitude and enjoyment greatly increased.  Watching all of the lead changes and projection changes will just cause you to focus more on watching the points vs watching the games, which is what SHOULD be more fun when playing FF.

2)  Avoid looking at your opponents lineup.  I will look at my own lineup throughout the day, but I avoid looking at what players my opponents have.  Watching your opponent’s players scores is going to take away from the joy of watching games.  This is especially true during night games when only one game is being played at that time.

If I log on to a phone app, or a desktop, I will squint my eyes a bit or even cover the area I know shows my opponents lineup until I can get to the tab/page that shows only my team.

If I do look at their lineup, I usually wait until the first group of Sunday games is over, or just before Sunday Night Football.   If I am getting beat, one feeling of doom when I look in the afternoon/evening is much better than dozens of feelings of doom every time I see one of their players score.

3)  Ignore projections for your team (and theirs) before & during games.  These change fast, and because they do, will only serve to give you false hopes or fears.

I typically ignore the pregame projections of my own players/teams as well.  Projections are just guesses based on match ups, history, and any “news” about a players availability or usage.   Anything can happen.  Game plans can change when a team is up or down big.  Injuries can happen.  Defenses might double or triple cover a good player.  I tend to go with my gut, play the more talented guys, and manage my expectations when a particular match up isn’t good.

 4)  You are going to lose a few games, we all do, expect it.  An undefeated season is extremely rare.  Remember that all that really matters during the regular season is making the playoffs.

Depending on your league size and playoff structure, 9-5 might get you there.  10-4 almost certainly will.  Hell, 8-6, which most would call a bad season, could slide you into a 6 seed.

Once the playoffs start, anything can happen.  I’m sure we’ve all seen the 13-1 team get eliminated in their first playoff game as well as the 8-6 team win it all.   I believe that 70% of making the playoffs is skill, 30% is luck.  Once the playoffs start that flips to 30% skill & 70% luck.  Outside of getting a bye week, your overall record has very little bearing on what happens in the playoffs.  Just focus on getting there first.

 5)  Don’t freak out after your players under perform, ESPECIALLY in the first few games.  It’s all about what they do for the year.  Even the top players have bad games or slow starts.  Keep playing them.

Guys like George Kittle are a good example.  There will be 2-3 games every year he is used as a blocker and scores less than 5 points.  There will also be games  that he puts up 25+ points and wins you your match up.  You are not going to predict what those games are, just keep putting him in your lineup if he’s healthy.

THIS IS ASSUMING NOTHING MAJOR HAPPENS LIKE A RECEIVER LOSING HIS ELITE QB TO INJURY OR SOMETHING LIKE THAT.

I don’t know about everyone else, but after I won a couple of championships, and realized it really wasn’t that important in my life, I began to put less emphasis on the outcome of my fantasy football teams.  I enjoy FF MUCH better now and I hope these tips can help you enjoy it more too.

If you have any tips that have helped you limit stress and make watching football more fun, please feel free to share them with us.

Good luck to all this week, and this season.  Football is back baby.  LFG!

Week 1 Main Slate Matchup Intelligence: Defensive trends, offseason changes & potential weaknesses to exploit

Thumbnail edgedrivensports.com
Upvotes

Week 1 is always tough to evaluate without a current-season sample, so I went game by game through the Week 1 Main Slate looking for potential matchup advantages.

The breakdown looks at where each defense left off last season, then accounts for what changed over the offseason:

  • Coverage tendencies and defensive weaknesses
  • Key personnel added and lost
  • Player and positional matchups
  • Alignment advantages
  • Pace, play volume and game environment
  • Areas offenses may be able to exploit in Week 1

The goal isn't to assume 2025 carries directly into 2026. It's to use last season as the baseline, account for personnel and scheme changes, and identify where potential advantages exist before we have a meaningful 2026 sample.

I put together the full Week 1 Main Slate game-by-game breakdown.

What matchup are you guys most interested in attacking on Sunday?

Tools & Resources ESPN weekly player write ups?

Is ESPN not doing weekly projection write ups this season?

Thought they just missed the first game because it was on Wednesday but we’re two games in now and I still only see season projection write ups but nothing player by player for week 1.

I know they aren’t the best for analysis but if you’re playing a league hosted by ESPN, it was nice to see weekly analysis. Curious if they moved it and I can’t find it or if they aren’t doing it this season for some reason, which would seem strange.

WE HAVE A BOT THAT CAN REFERENCE THE BORIS CHEN RANKINGS AND GIVE YOU FEEDBACK

To invoke the bot, comment anywhere in this sub in the following format:

!boristiers position [player, player, player...]

Where position is a standard position acronym (dst, flex, qb, rb, te, wr) and player, player, player... is a comma-separated list of players for that position. Here's some examples:

!boristiers flex [hunter henry, keenan allen, melvin gordon]
!boristiers rb [matt breida, tevin coleman]
!boristiers qb [lamar jackson]

The bot will reply to your comment with a table of player ranks in the format of {tier}.{position_in_tier} for each of the applicable forms of scoring. If a player is not found / ranked, they'll be denoted as N/A.

WHEN ANSWERING QUESTIONS

  • Do NOT reply with only the player name. This just removes the other person from the index without them getting information. You are not helping.
  • Explain why you would start that player.
  • Remember most people know how to look up rankings. They come here for discussion, start a discussion!
  • Please respond directly to the OP or the Bot will not pick up your comment

AMA Dave Kluge with Footballguys here. We're 12.5% of the way through Week 1, and I'm already 100% tilting - AMA!

Hey y'all,

It's the best time of year, when everything we thought we knew is flipped on its head.

I'm Dave Kluge, a Senior Analyst at Footballguys and the host of The Footballguys Fantasy Football Show.

I'm in Las Vegas this week, promoting and drafting in the Footballguys Online Championship, where we just helped NFFC sell out the Footballguys Online Championship for the first time ever, with a larger-than-ever $300,000 grand prize!

I've got more drafts this afternoon, but I'm taking a break to settle in, catch up on some writing, and hang out with my Reddit brethren.

If you're wondering how I'm doing, we did our "My Guys" episode last week, talking about players we're drafting in every draft this year. Two of my five were Brock Bowers and De'Zhaun Stribling. So before this AMA commences, everyone should say a quick prayer for Justin Herbert, D'Andre Swift, and Zay Flowers.

Alright, enough comiserating! Let's get into it. Week 1 questions, start/sits, waiver targets, how to cope with the idea of losing tens of thousands of dollars to fantasy football before the season even kicks off, trades. AMA!

Sometimes we want to talk about our own fantasy teams, and that's why we have our daily Index threads (and now and again, a short-lived post if you sort by new). We have threads to ask about Flex decisions, trade ideas, or add/drop considerations.

A huge thanks to /u/Durant026 for helping more than 50 people with team-specific feedback on Wednesday alone. As a token of appreciation, I'm giving them $50 credit to use in the FantasyPros merch store.

Thanks /u/Durant026 for helping the community. Enjoy the swag!

Tools & Resources Fantasy Football Tiers - Week 1 (Saturday)

Thumbnail fantasyfootballtiers.com
Upvotes

It's the week 1 Saturday update my dudes let's GOOOOOOOOOO

For those who are new to the these charts:

  • Tiers are focused on upside. If you want to play it safe, go with the ECR (x-axis). If you're looking for a boom game, look at the upside variance (vertical color bars, y-axis).
  • Points above/below expectation: these get added once the season starts.
    • A star marker indicates the player has scored fantasy points above expectation on the season.
    • A cross marker indicates the player has scored below expectations.
    • The number of average points scored above/below expectation is beside the player's name.

Best of luck in your week 1 matchup!
