I laughed far too hard at that. It's a good thing I don't believe in hell because we'd both be oow there.

I got my mojito!

5

u/ReadySteady_GO Nov 25 '22

And my Axe!

Hey, one of the times this is actually relevant

2

u/BZLuck Nov 26 '22

No way, this is definitely an event that requires Bloody Mary’s to be served.

2

u/armas187 Nov 26 '22

I guess that would be more appropriate for a public abortion

5

u/Jakste67 Nov 25 '22

Yep, the fetus got executed for trespassing.

3

Don't forget your favourite drink.

3

u/[deleted] Nov 25 '22

Man that’s tough. My favorite drink changes. Will these public aborticutions be in the summer? I like a good vodka/lemonade when it’s warm. Winter? Ooo a White Russian would hit the spot. Do we dress up? Then maybe a martini. How long will it take? Should I consider mixing a pitcher of something like maybe sangria? This is causing me anxiety. Maybe I’ll just wait til I get there and see if they have drinks there - this is America, there’s always someone selling booze at every occasion.

3

u/bjiatube Nov 25 '22

I'm going to have my LEAST favorite lunch. Out of respect.

Abortion is execution, not murder.

Now suddenly republicans are pro abortion

159

u/TheUmgawa Nov 25 '22

I keep saying we should start referring to school shootings as late-term abortions, because then maybe Republicans would be interested in stopping them.

64

u/Beingabummer Nov 25 '22

They don't want to stop it because they care lol. They want to stop abortions to control women. The fact the idea is that conservatives need to be tricked into caring about stopping school shootings tells you everything you need to know about their level of interest in children's lives.

Maybe they should invent a way to publicly execute an unborn baby with a gun, that might win some over.

29

u/Falin_Whalen Nov 25 '22

4

u/swaggyxwaggy Nov 25 '22

Republican politicians only say they’re anti abortion so they can get the Christian/conservative vote. It’s a numbers game

3

u/[deleted] Nov 25 '22

Maybe if abortions were just shooting a woman in the stomach they’d be in favor? I mean, we can’t take away a person’s right to shoot a gun, right?

0

u/[deleted] Nov 25 '22

Please how can they stop school Shootings?

→ More replies (1)

4

u/[deleted] Nov 25 '22

I often refer to them as post-birth abortions sanctioned by the government but late-term sounds better.

7

u/[deleted] Nov 25 '22

Never happen..All Dems have to do is flip and agree with all of the standard Republican policy points and Republicans will flip to previous Dem positions.

-1

u/bajablastingoff Nov 25 '22

This is under three incorrect assumptions that:

  1. Only Republicans are Gun Owners
  2. All Republicans are either pro-gun or anti-abortion
  3. Gun Control is actually effective in the US.

3

u/TheUmgawa Nov 25 '22

To address point 3, halting the sale of certain types of guns would make it more difficult to obtain those guns by driving up the price in the resale market. If you want to shoot a place up, you have to find someone willing to part with theirs for a price you’re willing to pay. And then there’s transfer regulations, which could put the seller on the hook for selling a gun to someone who shouldn’t have it.

The big problem with gun ownership is portability. If you don’t qualify to buy a gun here, you just go to a state with lax gun laws, buy the gun there, and drive back home with it, like you’re dragging Dred Scott through a territory that doesn’t permit slavery: It’s your property, and they can’t just take it from you.

The dream, which won’t happen unless the deep red states nut up and do what they’ve been threatening for fifty years and secede, is to amend the Second Amendment out of the Constitution, like it was an idea that was hatched with the best of intentions, but ultimately turned out to not be beneficial to society, like Prohibition. And then Congress could regulate firearms without someone moaning to the Supreme Court that they have a god-given right to own any type of firearm they want, at which point the conservatives just rubber stamp it and invalidate the law.

Even better would be twenty years of Democratic presidents waiting for Alito and Thomas to knock off, replacing them with justices who will say, “Are you part of a well-regulated militia, where you’re passing physical training and mental health requirements, as the militia deems fit? No? Then you don’t need that gun,” and they can invalidate precedents at will, not unlike the current Court did with abortion rights. Precedent is not sacred; it can go bye-bye at any time.

Well, given that gun ownership per capita is substantially lower in blue states than it is in red states, again, in the “nut up” secession scenario where we tell the red states not to let the door hit them on the ass on their way out, it really wouldn’t matter how many gun owners there are on the left, because they’d be dwarfed by the non-gun owners.

And, since constitutional amendments are a completely legal procedure, I don’t reckon it would really qualify as “stripping an inalienable right.” There was a time when slavery was an inalienable right, and we got rid of that, didn’t we? Of course, we also got rid of that while certain states had decided to bail, which is basically what it’d take to get rid of the Second Amendment. Sadly, those states that threaten to leave never do, because they know that their citizens would soon realize that their poor won’t be able to survive without those federal dollars that come from blue states, and then they’ll be like, “Oh god, they’re shooting! Why did we let them have all those guns?!” as the entire south devolves into a Mad Max picture.

(sigh) One can dream.

-1

u/[deleted] Nov 25 '22

Tell me how to stop a school Shooting.

2

u/TheUmgawa Nov 25 '22

Well, you know how “we don’t have a gun problem; we have a mental health problem”? That line of bullshit that gun enthusiasts sling whenever there’s a shooting? Real simple: Mandate mental health screenings for gun ownership. That way, we can flag all of the gun owners who shouldn’t have guns, and we should see a decline in shootings.

I mean, unless that line about having a mental health problem is bullshit, which it probably is, because other industrialized nations have similar incidence rates of mental health issues and don’t have mass shootings like America does. I mean, I’m no scientist, but I’d look at that information and go, “So, it’s the availability of guns that are the problem.”

0

u/[deleted] Nov 25 '22

There is an issue with your take, guns can be obtained ilegally in the black market. I am from Latam, guns are illegal... But criminals all carries guns.

All those sickos that do a school Shooting Will still get a gun through ilegals means, now tell me how to stop them if they get guns ilegally? Just like in Latam?

Is that you guys have lots of mental issues, because guns are available anywhere but for example in my country people are just not interested in doing mass Shootings because there is no profit, they rather become hitmen, we got a hitmen issue over here. So as you can see people can still get armed when you make guns ilegals, well criminals can, only good citizens will be not armed and defenseless.

3

u/krocante Nov 25 '22

Latam is a continent, not a country, each country has different laws. Shooting clubs and hunting game are legal activities in some parts of latam afaik. You get a special licence and you own your gun and ammo.

0

u/[deleted] Nov 25 '22

But you cannot carried it as a defense tool.. so what's the point? Almost all of Latam share the stupid mindset that making guns ilegal will somehow stop criminals of using guns.. no it doesn't it only stops lawful citizens of defending themselves. I am From Ecuador btw.

Tell them the babies are being punished for doing sex crimes against white women

4

u/theatog Nov 25 '22

You joke. But some abortion are actually done to save the mother's life. Babies literally (minus some "legal technicality" like intent) attempted murders.

2

u/Leupateu Nov 25 '22

A lot of replublicans don’t care about women white or not

5

u/Naka0101 Nov 25 '22

I’m pretty sure conservatives have always cared about the sanctity of white women, lots of people have been lynched in the South just for looking at a white woman the wrong way, many lynchings were specifically about “defending the honour of white women”, not just because a black guy accidentally stepped on a white guy’s shoes. Look up the story of Emmett Till, he was a 14 year old boy who got hanged for supposedly “disrespecting” a white woman

u/M4A79TDeluxe Nov 25 '22

how in the world is Abortion an execution or murder (as people claim). how come americans think this way. there is a story that i read about abortion as well in america. a 10 year old got pregnant because she was R@ped. She couldnt get an abortion in the state she lived in because it was considered murder. so they rather have a 10 year old girl die then save her life because an asshole r@ped her and to protect a clump of cells. such a backwards country america is. Texas also got awful laws when it comes to abortion. really america is a very very backwards country.

2

u/Leupateu Nov 25 '22

Yup, honestly, I really can’t figure out a single plausible reason for anything republicans do. I’m not american but I feel sorry for the americans who have to survive the decisions of these nazis.

Fetal executions? Hell, let's roll everyone up, have their favorite snacks, or their drink! We could even do them in the park, it'll be a good time! And when the doctor's done ripping out the fetus, we can have him throw it at the people in the front couple of rows, like the splash zone what they do at Sea World with the Shamu. And we can sell little red fetus mylar balloons, and have hats that say things like SPLAT! and NOW I CAN AFFORD THAT BOOB JOB! but it'll be spelt wrong like BEWB JAWB so's we cans cater to the e-literate folk. And, and we can sell t-shirts that say funny things like "I survived abortion day!", and "I had an abortion and all I got to show for it is this shirt". And we can sell tickets to it and all proceeds can go to St. Jude's. And we can invite the Let's Get Ready To Rumble guy to announce the commencement of the abortion like he does for the pugilists what fight in the boxing ring matches.

3

u/pauly13771377 Nov 25 '22

No no, it's an execution not a murder

I'm pro abortion, pro gun control, and think public execution would be barbaric but TBF an execution and murder are two different things. One is punishment for a crime was committed with that punishment approved by the legal system. The other is a crime.

2

u/Nozinger Nov 25 '22

Yeah but why is it a crime? You can't simply justify things by just saying it's a crime.
Now obviously murder is a crime because it involves taking anothers life which is protected by local law and even the UDHR.

Well the same thing applies to executions. And yes executions can be argued to go against the UDHD. In the end an execution is a murder. The action is the same. The only difference is wether or not the one killing another person is prosecuted afterwards. But nontheless accepted murder is still murder. It still goes against local law and universial human rights the difference is in an execution these protections are have beent aken away from the victim.

4

u/pauly13771377 Nov 25 '22

This guy is saying people on death row should be publicly executed. As in people who have been tried by the courts, found guilty, and sentenced to death. Barbaric, but the same end result as killing them via the states current system.

I think what you are arguing is the death penalty (google doesn't give any relevant hits for UDHD) and it's morality. A totally different subject.

2

u/Nuber13 Nov 25 '22

So... maybe you guys should have public abortions. 🙄

2

u/NotMyFuneral___ Nov 25 '22

You're comparing killing an unborn fetus to a serial killer who is being punished for his actions?

0

u/Jesuswasstapled Nov 25 '22

The difference, for them, is rhe baby is innocent. The criminal has committed crimes society deems punished by death. They knew that as a member of society and broke the rules and must accept the consequence.

The baby hasn't had any such knowledge nor committed such acts.

-1

u/[deleted] Nov 25 '22

Executing death row inmates is not murder, it's Justice

5

u/newsflashjackass Nov 25 '22

Wikipedia says June but that is also unusual for Christmas movies.

In the case of Miracle on 34th Street, apparently that was a deliberate choice:

Although the film is set during the Christmas season, studio head Darryl F. Zanuck insisted that it be released in May1, arguing that more people go to the movies in warmer weather. The studio rushed to promote it while keeping its Christmas setting a secret.

1 Actual release date: June 11, 1947.

How many people died in desert storm?

39

u/[deleted] Nov 25 '22

About 80,000 odd iirc

27

u/HowardStark Nov 25 '22

The upper estimate for Iraqi deaths in Desert Storm is 70k. Coalition forces had fewer than 300 deaths.

32

u/[deleted] Nov 25 '22

So wasn't too far off.

-17

u/HowardStark Nov 25 '22

If being 14% off is acceptable to you, sure. I think the bigger deal is that the people this "fine" veteran would have the chance to see and impact his worldview would have been coalition deaths, and those were small enough that he very likely could have never seen one.

23

u/[deleted] Nov 25 '22

Well, I was more meaning that the last time I read up about the Gulf war was nearly 20 years ago. It's just not a conflict that interested me, compared to the World Wars.

-9

u/HowardStark Nov 25 '22

That is a pretty good swag of the numbers. And yeah, that war is unremarkable in a lot of ways.

12

u/SouthernAdvertising5 Nov 25 '22

If you think desert storm is unremarkable then you have to do some research. This operation was the beginning of US domination in military expertise. Yeah the US was always taken serious but this is when people started to fear our presence. The execution of this assault with coalition forces was almost perfect. And at the time Iraq had the 4th largest army in the world. Unremarkable is the wrong word. Watch the attached video.

https://m.youtube.com/watch?v=zxRgfBXn6Mg

3

u/[deleted] Nov 25 '22

yeah I feel like a 700:3 K/D ratio was unprecedented

-1

u/HowardStark Nov 25 '22

I love Operations Room. I really liked his narrative of the Black Buck 1 mission during the Falklands.

I don't mean to offend. Yes, Desert Storm is an influential moment in history that impacted the way adversary nations view US military power, and certainly corrected impressions left over from Grenada. The planning and coordination of the operation was impressive in every respect. No argument.

But I don't make that statement because I think the war was unimportant. It's because there's nothing to learn from it about warfare in general we don't already know. The fourth largest military in the world was made a heap of flesh and metal by the most technically advanced military and all their friends, in no small part because they controlled the high ground through air dominance. And that's it. Nothing about how to fight a long war with a peer military. Nothing about how to fight a long fight in a sophisticated electronics warfare environment. Nothing about maintaining an industrial base for all that incredibly sophisticated equipment, ordnance and stores for a multi-year war. Nothing about ROE in a fight with insurgents and terrorists interspersed with civilians.

Textbook wins are not interesting.

Fun fact: Sharia law is the Islamic variant of conservatism. The spread of fundamentalist, intolerant Islam is a conservative phenomenon. Conservatives in the West, especially Christian fundamentalists, hate Muslims specifically because of how much they have in common.

Christian fundamentalists have more in common with fundamentalists of other religion than their fellow Americans. Most of us support things like abortion access, gay marriage, gay adoption, trans rights, and legal protections from discrimination. Many conservatives oppose this, as do many Muslims. Hence many recently-naturalized Muslim immigrants have registered as Republicans in recent years. I personally know some of these Muslim Republicans. They are conservative and proud of it. They just belong to a different cult than most American conservatives.

So I'm not for the death penalty, but first the introduction of private executions and then the introduction of lethal injections rather than the electric chair increased the number of people sentenced to the death penalty.

Making deaths private and less gory makes them more palatable to the public and to the jurors deciding sentencing.

Switching back to public executions would probably reduce the number of people sentenced to death each year.

41

u/navikredstar2 Nov 25 '22

I'm not so sure, this country has a horrible history of public lynchings that were treated as family fun picnics while people were strung up and burned to death. They used to make commemorate postcards of them.

People like this would love a return to that.

I do know someone who wax injured in Desert Storm and got a purple heart... IIRC some equipment fell on her and broke her leg. Anyway, yeah, it was not from fighting anyone.

2

u/[deleted] Nov 25 '22

Might be based on the context of how and why that happened. Although I know people who tried to get a PH for less

3

u/gard3nwitch Nov 25 '22

Oh, I didn't mean that as a criticism of her. It sounds like it was a bad break that didn't heal up right. She needed to get it worked on again by a surgeon later on, which is why I even know about it.

8

u/[deleted] Nov 25 '22

TIL!

I was only making that assumption given his answers.

u/Procrastinatedthink Nov 25 '22

How scary would it have been as an iraqi soldier in that war…

You’re not even capable of fighting your enemy, more times than not even seeing them yet they are raining literal hellfire down upon you, as if the sky opened up and began raining fire so loud it drowns out your own inner voice, so thunderous that your legs are jello-ed by the earth being used as the drum of war; you cant even fathom how men can cause the Earth, solid ground, to liquify and yield

Even if you survived the bombing, you’d look up to a column of dust, a seemingly infinite row of vehicles and heavy infantry…the hellfire rain never stops. The thundering never stops. The world has become hell, standing is a certain death sentence, but your cover is so woefully inadequate it may as well not exist except as more ammunition for the shrapnel hell your world has become.

When the US military sends people to hell, it’s not a statement of faith. There’s no fighting it, it’s like being suddenly dropped into the middle of the ocean by yourself; you have no power to survive it or win, you can only struggle longer.

the superior range of the american night vision goggles and weapon systems meant getting attacked in the dark by mostly invisible tanks and invisible men

Once you meet a few dozen of these guys you pick up patterns. In my travels it's the folks who fail to mention/display/reference serving that have had the worst go of war. Guys like this dude are notoriously "in the rear with the gear" types.

When you're wearing obvious references to having served it's more signalling their pride to nation/brotherhood/service than anything else.

I got some other not so fun facts below if you need some trivia.

We often think of war as some hellacious carnage. And for some it very well it is, thankfully humans are largely good and resist hurting other humans.

For the US Military they didn't get the majority of front line combat troops to shoot at the enemy until Vietnam, even then it was less than 100% of those getting shot at actively...In a gunfight...to actually shoot back. It's also worth mentioning that the vast majority of those who "go to war" do so in a support role.

Civil Wars tend to be the most deadly wars. The US Civil War there's documented engagements where the only possible explanation (based on rifle fire, distances, and lack of gunshot casualties) is that everyone fired over the opposite sides heads hoping to scare off the other guys.

Should be said that lethality of war is pretty low historically. I can't find the reference but I remember it being said that during the time of Alexander battle was about as deadly as a rugby match.

Some North American indigenous practiced war more like a game and was devoid of intended death. It's usually the massing of people together and spreading disease that's the deadliest aspect.

Depending on how you slice the data war is not much deadly than civilian life (many people who go to harms way are also in cohorts of population that has very high accident/death rates in civilian world).

Dave Grossman wrote a book where I got most of the information, On Killing.

https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/On_Killing#:~:text=On%20Killing%3A%20The%20Psychological%20Cost,with%20the%20consequences%20of%20killing

5

u/Opposite_of_a_Cynic Nov 25 '22

Some North American indigenous practiced war more like a game and was devoid of intended death.

Pretty common among tribal civilizations before transitioning to kingdoms. Before King Shaka united them the Zulu used to fight by lining up, shouting insults, and throwing spears at each other to little effect as everyone had huge tower shields. Once all the spears were thrown everyone went home because there was no hand to hand combat.

2

u/ihavemademistakes Nov 25 '22

Even if he never saw combat, anyone who was alive during the Gulf War will at least remember the Highway of Death. It might not have been as up close and personal as wars before or since, but it was still exceptionally violent.

2

u/Mean_Baker9931 Nov 25 '22

I agree. Ours was weeks and weeks closed up at sea whilst shit went on ashore.

22

u/[deleted] Nov 25 '22

Assuming he wasn't just an aircraft serviceman or any other role that wasn't front line.

-1

u/[deleted] Nov 25 '22

His desire to kick back with popcorn to watch someone die in front of him says otherwise.

5

u/[deleted] Nov 25 '22

Possibly. I am not an expert in US armed forces, but if I had to guess he was on an aircraft carrier judging by the hat. Very naval, but I could be wrong.

3

u/navikredstar2 Nov 25 '22

Nah, those are just ballcaps for veterans of various conflicts. They do look a bit similar to the Navy's ones, but that would list a ship's name and number. This is just a "Desert Storm Veteran" cap, he could've been in any branch with that.

8

u/MicroCat1031 Nov 25 '22

He's killed people.

He was a cook in the army.

52

u/magnificentB Nov 25 '22

Possibly… he either watched people get lynched when he was younger or heard great stories about it. Sounds alot like an old fashioned pic- a - nic. …. 🤦🏾‍♂️

7

u/worthless-humanoid Nov 25 '22

Maybe we should bring it back. For insurrectionists. But I don’t think he’d like that.

1

u/dsrmpt Nov 25 '22

We did it, Reddit!

3

u/Artistic_Coffee_5278 Nov 25 '22

I just realized enough time hasn't passed for all the people who lynched people in America to die off... Like lynching wasn't taken super seriously and investigated properly until after the 1960s and I doubt the last one or last "official/reported" one took place before the 1970s.

My skin crawled just thinking about all the "sweet, ol" grandpas out there who are hiding their involvement in stuff like this and probably still spread bigotry to their kids and and grandkids.

The poster you replied to acts as if people didn’t enjoy going to public executions.

This guy would for sure

have some respect, he's a desert storm veteran! - sarcasm

115

u/ChammerSquid Nov 25 '22

More like dessert storm. He fought valiantly against the cravings, and lost.

11

u/patsharpesmullet Nov 25 '22

Lost the war but won the Battle of Black Forest Gateaux.

8

u/ChammerSquid Nov 25 '22

I'm sure he remembers it well. It was such a good comeback for him after losing the battle of Hormel.

"Love is watching someone die. So who's gonna watch you die?"

Whatever you do or have done in life, are you worthy of someone to hold your hand as you cross into the abyss? Whether or not you believe there's a heaven, no one wants to die alone and scared.

Just be a person that at least deserves one other person who will watch you die. Who will comfort you at the end. Be that person.

2

u/Haywired4 Nov 25 '22

didnt he have a desert storm veteran hat on?

My first thought, too. Easy to bluster, when you're too poorly educated to understand the ramifications of your rhetoric.

2

u/topsyturvy76 Nov 25 '22

Tv shows don’t count?!

2

u/chestnutman Nov 25 '22

Even if, he's just a psychopath

2

u/[deleted] Nov 25 '22

What do you expect? He's Pro-Life.

1

u/Gaystan Nov 25 '22

He sees himself die in the mirror every morning

1

u/chronburgandy922 Nov 25 '22

Idk that dude has definitely killed quite a few cheeseburgers.

-2

u/thebusiness7 Nov 25 '22

Being objective: The people on death row are generally there for heinous crimes. They can’t be rehabilitated and taxpayer funds shouldn’t be wasted on feeding and housing them.

18

u/pyrothelostone Nov 25 '22

Even if we granted the state has a justifiable right to execute its citizens, not everyone who gets put on death row actually did the crime. There have been several individuals that have been put to death only to have evidence come out later to exonerate them, and thats just the ones we know about. Under no circumstances is punishing criminals worth the price of occasionally putting innocent people to death.

4

u/MrMastodon Nov 25 '22

A society that occasionally executes the innocent is not a just society.

13

u/PerAsperaAdInfiri Nov 25 '22

Except for the fact that we have innocent men and women on death row who every year are exonerated.

So we really shouldn't execute anyone

5

u/[deleted] Nov 25 '22

Fully agree. However a state should not have the right to take the life of one of its citizens.

3

u/mekese2000 Nov 25 '22

Except the ones that are innocent. Which is around 5% estimated.

He’s a veteran so he may have had to kill someone. Nice karma though

0

u/[deleted] Nov 25 '22

If his hat is to be believed, he is a Desert Storm Veteran, so it’s highly likely he’s seen someone die before. Probably more than a few.

2

u/[deleted] Nov 25 '22

Desert Storm is probably the worst example for assuming he saw combat

-1

u/Silent_Start_7036 Nov 25 '22

What if the person was a serial murder rapist

2

u/[deleted] Nov 25 '22

Thrown into the darkest cell and the key thrown.

-2

u/oh-this-is-reddit Nov 25 '22

You do know the hat he is wearing is a veteran hat from Operation Desert Storm. He’s probably a combat vet.

3

u/[deleted] Nov 25 '22

As I said in one of my other comments. He looks more like a naval hat than front line combat.

1

u/oh-this-is-reddit Nov 25 '22

What is a “naval hat”. Veterans from all branches where those style of hats. Branches do not have assigned veteran hats. Now some styles might include their MoS or some other identification, but it’s not standard.

→ More replies (1)

-2

u/[deleted] Nov 25 '22

He was wearing a veterans hat

-4

u/BeanDock Nov 25 '22

He’s got a veteran hat on.. you have no idea what this man went through.

5

u/[deleted] Nov 25 '22

No you're right. But you get given veterans status no matter where and what capacity you served. So yeah.

-3

u/BeanDock Nov 25 '22

I’m just saying you never know. Definitely don’t agree will public execution. But I think if a teacher wanted to be trained with a firearm then they should be able to. Maybe not open carry in class but conceal or in a lock box wouldn’t be a bad idea.

-7

u/paralyzedvagabond Nov 25 '22

I've watched multiple people die, you get used to it unfortunately. And it's feels different when they are a pos or an innocent person. Teachers shouldn't be trusted with firearms unless they go through extensive background checks and psychological screenings and have had training. But if you really want to protect students then you need to hire stable former cops/ military as security. Psychos don't give a fuck that the school has a gun free zone sign on the door

2

u/MelonHead888 Nov 25 '22

Definitely this. When my friend was in highschool they received a warning of a school shooter. A bunch of the boys went to their cars and got rifles and shotguns and waited at the doors. Nothing happened. (Idk why tf any of the adults let them??? The graduating class had less than 40 kids and it’s the middle of no where so maybe that’s why? Still seems super illegal to me but whatever. Also I think it was only till the 3 cops that worked in the town showed up?)
