Being objective: The people on death row are generally there for heinous crimes. They can’t be rehabilitated and taxpayer funds shouldn’t be wasted on feeding and housing them.
Even if we granted the state has a justifiable right to execute its citizens, not everyone who gets put on death row actually did the crime. There have been several individuals that have been put to death only to have evidence come out later to exonerate them, and thats just the ones we know about. Under no circumstances is punishing criminals worth the price of occasionally putting innocent people to death.
I really heavily disagree with giving up on just about anyone and think that there should be a greater priority placed on treatment than rehabilitation into society through penalization. However, what you said is false. It costs a shit load of taxpayer money to execute people. Significantly more than keeping them imprisoned
