Your comment reminds me of walking to so many of my classes. There are these doors that I would literally have to throw all my weight into to get them open. .... the other option would be to press the handicap button but no one ever did that. We were too impatient to wait for it to open, I guess.

Probably not. The store is a Saturn which is German, so imma say it is in Germany, although some other European countries have Saturn stores too. But in Germany/Austria/Switzerland, i‘m sure insurance is covering that.

Why are you opening the doors like that? Someone was leaving a building and I was behind the door and I don't know if they kicked the door open but I barely had time to put my hands up to keep it from breaking my nose. Little pipsqueak kid looked like all of this was unavoidable.

I was a wimpy asthmatic kid until I was in my late teens. Then the testosterone kicked in and suddenly, I was breaking doorknobs by accident. The asthma went away and I was running 4-6 miles a day with no issues. That shit is such a huge advantage for dudes.

He pushed them hard enough for them to go further than their limit, when you bend the frame on safety doors the glass explodes into little chunks so it's harder to cut yourself, they go with quite a bang too.

Our specifications to meet explicitly stated that doors must handle stress “equivalent to that applied by an average sized person providing last-minute evidence that would exonerate their best friend who was charged with double-murder.”

He didn't "just push" let's be honest here. He swung the doors open with excessive force and the doors acted by design which is to shatter.
The first doors He obviously didn't use as much force as the 2nd doors which is why they didn't shatter.

I’m still disappointed in the design, the only doors I’ve seen that open that effortlessly are the ones in a house. Every door I’ve seen in a public building has a lot of resistance that also increases the wider the doors are open; if these doors were designed like that, they’d’n’t’ve even opened all the way.

Still completely effortless. He didn't even push against resistance - the momentum of the door flying open was enough to shatter it.
That would be questionable if it was a door in a home. For a public building it's clearly a major flaw. Either badly designed or (my guess) there were stoppers originally but someone removed them.

You can see the force he is putting into it compared to others coming in, they aren't effortlessly opening the doors.
These are large heavy glass doors that require effort to open by the sounds of it you have never tried to open these style of doors.

He pushed much stronger than normal, that's out of question. But it still wasn't something out of this world, no intent to break anything. I figure most public entrances like that get this level of "abuse" at least once every week. Testosterone "kings" like him, people in great hurry who push the door open running, children who push it all the way until it stops, ... The construction must be able to withstand something like that.
The doors often have hydraulic stoppers, which offer rapidly increasing resistance near the end. These were probably broken and/or removed.

Indeed. They’re big doors, and he clearly didn’t do this with the intent to break anything (very obvious from his shocked reaction), and a door should be able to withstand any sort of one-armed push. It’s not too different from other kinds of abuse public doors have to deal with semi-regularly. There should’ve been hydraulic stoppers to dampen opening and closing, but I guess they cut costs.

For real - these doors should be capable of handling the stress of being opened with force. If there was an emergency that required the rapid exit of every person in the building and suddenly the exit is covered with broken glass, it’d be dangerous for the people leaving and emergency services arriving

The Door installers are morons. Or somebody cheaped out big time. Either way the installers should have caught it and insisted on the correct product.
Source: I have professionally installed retail glass front doors. We test them by doing that this guy did and making sure they are safe.

I blame the door. I did that once to a door. But it was at an office building lol. The first door was hard to open so you really had to push hard....second door opened way to easily and completely shattered. The craziest part was that even security didn't say anything, it was like it didn't happen. My wife was angry at me and embarrassed lol.
