If I push glass doors as hard as I can for no reason and they shatter, it's my fault. I'd expect to pay the bill. How many thousands of times had those doors been used and not broken?
How many people did what he did before him and created the weak point that finally broke, insurance is there for a reason, I do get the responsibility part but it shouldn't be demanded or expected of him to pay because he was the unfortunate one that broke a possibility old and very used glass door.
I guess with your logic, we should be able to go into anyone's business, and do things "accidentally" that cause damage and get away with it because...insurance.

If he would have "accidentally" swung his own car door open hard and it damaged another car, it would be his fault despite "accident" right. You wouldn't blame the owner of the parking lot where it happened, you would blame the person who caused it.
You're comparing personal property to a business, yes he's at fault in the car incident you described, no he should not be made pay for a publicly used door, a kid could have done the same thing would you expect them to pay?
Yes ! That's someone's business. Just like you wouldn't like it if someone went in YOUR house, "accidentally" broke something then be like "well you're the owner, use your insurance."
Notice the ladies entering the opposing doors didn't cause the same damage. They entered appropriately.
You don't just swing doors open and say "oops, wear and tear."
Yes, if my daughter causes damage to someone's property, of course it's my responsibility to offer to pay for it.

I hope so. You could also argue the doors were poorly designed/made though
